and good mythical more and and my son is just i’m really proud of him hope y’all hope that uh we have a good time and we’re gonna swing right on into this show today we are swinging into it dad i’m proud of you look at you you’re freaking hosting you’re on show seen by zillions well listen to heard by zillions of people i don’t know how many people are listening because we don’t have those numbers yet well they’ll come in and tell us and when we find out i’m gonna be excited one way or the other we’ll just go from there i’m excited if it’s just me and you and logan and jenna in the room this is go i mean this is us talking more consistently i mean we we probably talked on the phone how many how many i mean probably like twice a month yeah about two or every three weeks at least something like that twice a month every three weeks or something this is up in our game i have learned that you know it’s better to try to text you and get an answer from you then you know try to call you on telephone so you know i am learning a little bit and most time if i text you then you’ll call me so yeah yeah it works out pretty good yeah i i’m starting to play the same game with lily i’ll text her and if she replies then i know oh see i got you now because you’re replying to a text i know you’re you’ve got enough time to reply to my text i’m going to call you right now and i can usually get her that way so we’re both playing the dad games but i am proud of you and i appreciate you saying you’re proud of me that is uh it feels good it feels good yeah uh so what’s new in myrtle beach dad well um i went to walmart the other day and walked into the subway and to get me and nancy a sandwich and these people were kind of staring at me and looking at me and it was a girl and a guy behind the counter there was several more in there but she she kept looking and i said you know who i am yeah and she said uh i think you’re link’s dad and i said that would be correct and she jumped up the first thing out of her mouth she said oh [ ] in the store she was she you said she was behind the counter she wasn’t behind the counter yeah she’s an employee that’s what i mean i don’t know if that type of language is in the in the subway employee handbook you know she’s uh young people 16 15 years old just working in there trying to make a living so they don’t care what comes out of their mouth to start with so this this girl and then this guy said oh lord i watch lincoln read all the time i said well that’s good that’s good so they did they finally calmed down they were excited to calm down a little bit and they said they squirt all of the mayonnaise out of the squirt bottle no well i don’t i don’t they won’t fixing the sandwich yet because i hadn’t ordered anything okay yeah you want to make sure they don’t have their right hand wrapped around like a honey dijon squeezer when you reveal your identity yeah so they uh asked me what i wanted to get to eat and i ordered it and everything and then yeah i walked back up right to the counter and after i paid and everything oh you paid i thought you were saying you were thinking you were gonna get a free sub no they these young people they don’t have i don’t want them have to take that out of their pay just cause i’m trying to be famous in you too so all right so you after you pay for the sub what so i asked him i said um y’all want to come out here and get a picture with me and they jumped all over that oh yeah they came out and got about three different phones and then one of them was facetime and taking pictures and one of them was just taking pictures and sending them and everybody said look who i’m wearing and told them and they would i mean this went on for about three or four minutes damn you shut down the subway pretty much you get a guy i mean you could have got a free sub out of that i mean if i mean like if if they are taking your time you know what i’m saying time is money right yeah it just hey it makes you excited that somebody recognizes me because of you so christy and actually it was lily because we went and visited her a couple weeks ago and somebody was was sitting out there on campus on a picnic table and came up to me with his phone in his hand and he was like hey i just i don’t want to disturb you but i’ve been a fan of good mother good morning for a long time and i said you want a picture and then he’s like yeah yeah yeah and he like takes a picture and then we had like a friendly quick exchange and then i was like all right have a good one thanks for watching keep watching and then i walked up and i caught up with the rest of the family we were all there visiting lily and like they had kind of you know they weren’t in the photo they just kind of kept walking a little bit and when i caught up with them christy and lily started giving me [ ] about they said cause you got recognized no because i said do you want a picture oh like christy was like it’s not a good look to say do you want a picture i was like well my dad says do you know who i am all the time i think that’s a pretty good look because he he’s telling me he’s got a pretty good success rate yeah but they thought they thought that you should let them ask for a picture i was like i’m just making it easier for fans you don’t understand he’s got the phone in his hand he just feels awkward i’m i’m making it easier by just volunteering what i know he’s already gonna say right after they recognize me or recognize you sometimes i don’t think after they’ve done that that they they’re taking up so much of your time that they don’t want to take anymore up and are or really don’t want to ask to take a picture see you’re with me we’re just trying to speed it along yeah i’m with you on that yeah i’m just trying to say hey do you know who i am and if so would you like a picture yes let’s just let’s do this hey this is good for everybody it’s efficient so i i agree with you on that you like to tell christy we’re not on the same page me and you is on the same page that’s right it’s like when you and your dad hang out you can go up to anybody you want and ask them if they know you if they want a picture but it’s embarrassing to us for you to say that it seems like you’re full of yourself oh you want a picture that’s not how i said it you been getting any emails yeah i got a few people’s people can ask some crazy questions all right let’s get to it it’s time for another edition of myrtle beach mailbag uh i got a email from dakota kentz he said how does a guy cancel his appointment at the sperm bank uh is this a question or is this a joke i can’t tell oh this is a joke i’m sorry you gotta you gotta warn me if you’re if you’re about to go into a joke because i just thought he was like asking for your advice which also you get emails well this is the email i don’t know if it’s a joke or well does it have a punchline yeah it does well then it’s a joke it’s a joke okay yeah i mean you could if you want to just answer it uh sincerely i guess we could do that too do you have any experience with a sperm bank yeah yeah no this ain’t this ain’t this ain’t a sincere question well mine is do you have any experience with a sperm bank no okay i’d if you said yes i don’t know how i would have responded like how much money is in that you know how much money you can get for i mean you get paid for your sperm right this guy must be getting paid for it or or trying to find out if his sperm’s any good or anything what okay just tell me the joke read it calls and tells them he can’t come oh that’s kind of gross [Laughter] that’s gross dad you did you picked that one you liked that you like that joke that’s the one you’re leading with yeah well it was it was just one that i thought you know was good about what men do sometimes yeah it is we do do it sometimes it does tend to happen okay yeah i i should have guessed that one but i kind of want to know how much money you can make donating sperm uh this just in jenna jenna has either done some research or for some reason she knows but a hundred and you at a sperm bank you make a hundred and forty dollars each acceptable sample in california 140 bucks man that’s a lot of money going down the shower drain and if you go over there and pay get paid to do that what are they going to do with that sperm do you give them permission to go have offsprings for you everywhere what are you what are they going to do with it no they turn it into shampoo they put it in a shampoo yeah yeah that’s what sperm banks are for dad well i’m gonna quit washing my head with shampoo you know what i’m joking it’s conditioner doesn’t that make more sense yeah that makes more yeah i mean i guess you you have to sign you have to sign something i mean that i guess you got to sign something that says this is now yours to do with what you want i don’t know but for those for those listening this might be you got this next joke is from makina le tour two windmills are on a date one asked the other two what’s your favorite kind of music okay and they respond with i’m a big metal fan i’m a big metal fan okay yeah i mean i i’ve seen a windmill you know you went to amsterdam did you did you did you tour a windmill several of them said were any of them metal no they were all wood right so it’s like that we’re both i’m i’m thinking it doesn’t work but i guess in like kansas or like on farmland here they’re metal so i guess oh yeah well i don’t know what i i mean i thought the thing said because they was talking about that metal rock music is what i thought i’m a big metal fan that metal rock music yeah that’s there’s a double meaning that’s what makes it a joke yeah i get that part okay [Music] email oh are they all jokes no okay this one here says if you had to finger paint with any body part other than a finger what would you choose okay this is a legit who’s this question from oh this question is from theo polling if you had a finger paint with any other part of your body what would you choose okay well this is i mean he’s asking you so i’m curious i i’d finger paint uh using a brush in my mouth okay why is that well it would be a way where i i could dip it in the paint and could do your head back and forth and go up and down and just try to paint a picture with it now as a professional painter this is this is really speaking your language i think he was hoping that your answer would be like your wiener your dong yeah i thought about that too but i i don’t want paint all over my wiener exactly right see you outsmarted him he he lobbed you a softball and you’re like you know what i’m gonna i’m gonna paint this softball with the with a paintbrush in my mouth that’s kind of what i thought but i’m not going down that low to be painting with so i just thought i’d wait and just use my mouth with a brush in it it reminds me do you remember that time rhett and i went on a radio show that was based out it was like a local radio station outside of sanford and we went on the radio station i can’t remember what it was called this was like i mean we had just started making videos people people who didn’t watch youtube were trying to figure out what is this like youtube videos there’s these two guys in lillington let’s bring them up to samford and we can ask them about their videos that have gone viral you know and i started talking about you it was live on the air not pre-recorded i just started talking about you and i used it as an opportunity to drum up business for you and i said my dad’s a painter and i i gave your number out like i gave him i gave out your cell phone yeah like literally i read it out i said call my dad he’s a painter and they were like oh what what does he he do does he paint houses i was like no he paints murals i was lying because you are a house painter i don’t have to tell you that but just for the benefit of the the listeners yeah but but i made up this whole deal i was like yeah my dad is a painter he you know he’s he’s very experienced he’s done this for many years which you have i’d be correct but not murals and i said yeah he would paint he’ll paint the side of your barn with the most beautiful mural and i just kept saying your phone number and i didn’t tell you do you remember this did anybody call you for a mural somebody did call and i thought they’d gone crazy that was your opportunity to branch out you do a good job painting colors on homes and like you do tile you do deck building you do renovations but you don’t do murals no i doing murals is when you got to have something to follow and paint a picture of somebody or something i might could paint something and put a name or letters up on a board for an advertisement or something but not a person i’m not that artistic but you’re an artisan so don’t sell yourself short i mean the things that you do with tile and with paint all of this stuff is uh it’s it’s there’s a there’s a creative element to it wouldn’t you say oh yeah i mean and i’m good at it i’m peculiar about what i do for for people and i make sure it’s trying to be the best it can be with everything that i do so and of course i mean this is your opportunity to brag about how great i was at it too when i worked for you you know what i was 15 years old because i didn’t have my driver’s license because the the driver’s ed guy would pick me up from wherever i was painting houses with you for the summer so i did it when i was 15. we were i remember where it was at we was in a house in irwin north carolina that’s right and you would put me up i mean you tell me your rationale where would you put me to paint i put you in the smallest hole in the hottest place i could put you it was yeah and the highest in the highest place yeah and looking back on it i think what i realized was you you had me painting the stuff that like was no one ever saw well it was part of that then you know and until you got a little bit better at it and everything but it was also so that i would make you go get an education so you didn’t have to work as hard as i did and it was hey it worked out pretty well too but there was that point of course i was 15 then then i think when i was 17 that summer i also worked for you painting because 16 is i think that was the farm year yeah but then you remember years later i got i got married we started having chris and i started having kids i worked at ibm and then when i quit that job working at ibm in order to start raising support for to work for campus crusade at that point i was trying to make ends meet to like support my family while i made this transition and you said well you know what you can come work for me again i can i can you know i can pay you like an apprentice rate and that was yeah i mean that was a very pivotal moment in terms of like switching careers and especially leaving engineering and going into ministry at the time it was like you know there was there were family members who had opinions right and they weren’t all positive it was just like what are you what are you doing here right we’re not gonna bring up any names but we know who we’re talking about yeah we do but you were you know what it meant so much you were so supportive and encouraging it’s like yeah he’s going to give up his engineering career to do this ministry thing but the raising your own financial support was a big hurdle to like i guess oh yeah as as my dad it’s like really this is what you’re going to do with your family at this point like this is very speculative you know it’s like depending on people every month to give you money you know in my mind well you tell me what you remember about that see it didn’t bother me like it did some people because i’ve been self-employed all my life because if you don’t work and try to do something that you’d like to do and and money to come in and to help you then you didn’t take the right step to do what you want to link so uh that’s the reason i was so supportive because i mean i didn’t know if i’d have a job from one week to the next right after i got started painting and doing stuff and then of course if you do good work it’ll follow you around so you and rhett do pretty good work so it follows you around but and it was a you know it was a good cause especially like my perspective at the time which you know has changed some but like it just it did mean a lot for you to not only say i support you through this transition like i’m encourage you and i’m i’m with you in this but like to actually say you can come back you’ve got a college degree you worked as an engineer you’re dropping all that to do this you’re trying to make ends meet you can come work for me laying tile it’s like that meant a lot for you to actually it’s kind of like putting your money where your mouth is i’m lit you were literally supporting me and my family as we were making this transition so it’s very you know i just want to tell you that that was very special and it meant a lot when i’m making this big decision and taking this big risk you know because it was scary and it took a it took a while let me tell you it was like a two year transition i thought it was kind of ironic how it worked out we would we were painting a church staining them big high ceilings that’s right in that church and you got a phone call one day yeah and you you said i gotta take this so you went outside and you were gone about 15 20 minutes and you came back in she said you said uh i need to talk to you and i said well all right she said well these people from ibm call me back told me that i could work whatever hours i wanted to as long as i kept my work up and could keep trying to raise your money and this is how much money they offered me to come back to work and i said get your stuff and hit the road right i said because i can’t pay you that much i thought yeah i mean you be making more than i am so just going back up and go to work and keep raising your money but i thought it was i mean it’s important when you’re when you’re trying to make something happen that you have people who believe in you and your and your advocate you you were that for me and then rich who i’d worked with at ibm he got a promotion and after i had left and then so he was like hey you can come back and work part time i know what you’re trying to do you you can you can make that happen and help me out at the same time yeah and i i remember i was like my dad am i it was i was apologetic because like i had in my mind i was like oh my dad needs me now but the truth of the matter was i might have been you know i’m not gonna say i was a burden i think it was kind of a break even thing with me helping you out you could find better help and you didn’t i don’t know about that i mean i probably did but i mean you were i mean there’s some work that i knew you could do and i didn’t have to carry tote all them five gallon back buckets of paint and stuff around let you do that and ease me up so it was a pretty good trade-off i i i will say though i remember we were you were teaching me to lay tile at that house in the middle of lillington and so this was a few weeks or maybe a month before i i ended up leaving yeah and so i was taking the tile in and out and i can’t remember what i did wrong or wasn’t able to do right and i’m like asking you for direction and i mean i’ve been tooting your horn and give being grateful but i maybe i’ll take you down a notch here yeah you were like you would you would get frustrated when you were trying to tell me how to do something and i have the same thing like christy says you do the same thing to to our kids and and to me if i’m like if sometimes i’ll get like tongue-tied when i’m trying to explain how to do something or how i want something done and i just start pointing and grunting and you were a grunter and pointer yep and probably still am you would point and grunt and then when i would i didn’t do it right you got you said something dad i i got up and i went outside and cried [Laughter] i yeah you never knew this happened i was it was one of those you know you get so frustrated sometimes that like it’s like what what i’m i’m crying tears of frustration i wasn’t like crushed it wasn’t that my feelings were hurt by anything you said you weren’t being cruel i had just like gotten so frustrated that we weren’t communicating well that it like i did i just broke down and cried about it and then you’re like you come out there to like get something i’m like wiping the tears like i’ll get back in there we’ll get it done but i mean who knows what psychology is involved here but you did some good but you did also make me cry as a grown-ass man okay i mean here i’m a grown ass man well hey i’m a grown man and i still cry something too sir about some things so is that your idea of an apology well i i don’t i i don’t know if i’m gonna apologize for what i did then you know i probably want the best way to try to teach you but you know i think a little later on you did learn how to we would lay some tile in your house and carry and you you did a pretty good job at it so you must have learned something about laying tile all right that’s right apology acceptance all right hit me with another joke we gotta shut down this segment okay this next email is from corned beef pasty it says two dudes broke into a drugstore and stole all the viagra and the police then put out an alert to be on the lookout people like down here at the beach in this uh oh okay so you’re gonna you you’re gonna highlight a color for us a pink killer okay perfect but it’s called sea salt it’s a sharon williams color okay not a sponsor but when you uh paint this color sea salt on the wall it’s according to how the sun hits it it’s it’s a it’s a pretty soothing green color oh well really yeah and when you’re dealing with women and ladies and they want to match stuff up with these colors on there with the furniture and different stuff but when the sun hits it color it makes it change colors to like a grayish green color to a just a light light pretty green color so it works really well where do you recommend using it we use it most of the time in kitchens and living rooms and in bathrooms and stuff we have done it in a bedroom before but most of the time they change up from that color to something else but it’s a good color i probably put 50 gallons of it on in the last two years oh what’s it called against sea salt sea salt you know what it sounds like it would be good to go a sperm bank it seems like a sperm bank kind of a paint color see i mean it’s got the worst salt in it i’m told that it’s salty you getting way above my head now i’m telling you but i mean you said it was calming it was soothing and i mean depending on how the light hits it i don’t know it could be like a gender reveal thing you know people trying to do that i don’t know i’m just i’m just spitballing here i don’t know but people like it it’s been a popular color for about two or three years okay well see so don’t say you
