coy link that’s that’s what I wrote response okay so I click on the first link not knowing what this is and it’s the actor from Star Trek The Next Generation the guy who plays Q he was also on an episode of Breaking Bad he was the air traffic controller he you he was being interviewed at a Comic Con about doing a voice for the villain on the cartoon on the hub network called My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and then he starts talking about how there’s a whole group of people who are not the original intended audience of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic ie not seven to nine year old girls I don’t know exact Angier no great no I know my daughter’s nine years old and she really likes My Little Pony Friendship is Magic she watched on Netflix yep but what I kind of heard rumblings of was that there was a whole other group of people a lot of which are guys yeah who are older I’m talking like the 18 to 34 year old range who actually watch My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and they call themselves bronies I had heard about this rumblings it’s been about this is not new a year so many of you but I never I never looked into it I just was like and we in many of you commented you guys should talk about bronies well link has now done the research into the situation and is it now for a report so you know Q um or the guy who plays Q that’s not his real name that’s just his characters we should just start truck you next generation he talks about you know he starts talking about bronies and how he’s starting a Kickstarter campaign to do a documentary about this subject and I’m like okay then I click on the next link that COI has left for us and it is a remix music video of footage from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic that with fan generated music was like oh this is pretty cool I can see there’s like a meemic factor to this thing and then I click on the third link and he says grab some popcorn for this one oh and I realized this is long this is a one hour long documentary where this guy saber spark what you are about to see is a presentation I made for a school project the class was study of deviance and my goal was to show how Bernie’s were a deviant subculture you know I say to myself okay koi you know I just can’t sit here and watch this for an hour especially when it starts off with it’s just it’s just footage from my little pony and him talking about it but you watched it for the entire but then I ended up watching the whole thing now if it starts all that coming it going student goes it starts with the 1980s version original incarnation of the cartoon My Little Pony then it goes through the 90s generation I think there’s like three generations prior to what spawn bronies in the current incarnation and he he talks and gives critical analysis of each of these versions of My Little Pony from like an adult males perspective yep and I’m like okay this is this is this is weird I don’t I don’t I don’t understand what’s happening here so I started fast-forward a little bit until I get to a point where he talks about you skipped a little I did hmm I did he did you know he did character analysis and things like that and he says that you know that the this is mostly lame from from his perspective then he starts giving the history of how okay the hub decided to bring it back and a lot of a lot of critics thought okay this is just a ploy to sell more toys but then what happened was the people who criticized it started saying but the characters and the stories and the animation are all ultra legit now if you would have told me that I would be crazy over a show about ponies five months ago I would have thought you were lying yet here I am with pony toys in my shelf and love and tolerance in my heart now I’ve watched some of my Little Pony Friendship is Magic with my daughter Lily is nine and she loves it she’s watched all of them on Netflix like I said and I’ll be honest with you I I was not drawn in to the point where you wanted to my documentary about it yeah for talked about it for an hour but I will say this as the guy was talking about it and I started to get a little bit of it and realize okay this is this is how I’ll describe it I’ll just have it like the Animaniacs phenomenon now Animaniacs i watched well you know it has into my teens may i kid i could have been 20 watching Animaniacs in rerun form because they had humor that was for older people that the kids who are originally originally intended for couldn’t get smarter humor yeah I mean there’s references according to this document in My Little Pony Friendship is Magic to David Bowie ever heard of Diamond Dogs doll David oh he has and there’s a cameo by The Big Lebowski and Walter Friendship is Magic was created for little girls but it was created in such a way so that their parents even their dad somebody like me could sit down with my daughter Lily and find these things that they would miss but I would think they were all arias so there’s some of that so it was designed to also hook the parents or at least make them not want to blow their brains out if they had to watch it well this is but this is a trend you mentioned Animaniacs which I watched it was big fan of for a really long time into my teenage years and that was that was the exception back in the day you could watch right if you go back and watch he-man or Smurfs you go back and watch that stuff just for kids made in the 80s it you makes you want to blow your brains out but it’s almost so bad in the dialogue is so bad and there is no character devote almost so bad that it becomes entertained entertaining again like a bad local commercial right but then some how maybe in the 90s and definitely now there’s very little kids programming that doesn’t like I sit down and watch my kids watch Phineas and Ferb and it’s funny it’s hilarious it’s so it’s very very well done they’re college students that love Yo Gabba Gabba yeah it that’s not I mean not to mention spongebob that’s the kind of trend but but the weird thing about this is that okay this is for seven-year-old nine-year-old girls isn’t it weird that you know like it conceivably a thirty year old guy could be into this have not having daughters and yeah on the surface that seems weird but I think the first thing that clarifies that these 30 year old or 20 year old guys are not are not watching it with these little girls they’re watching it alone it’s a basement it’s a totally separate group of people here this is more of like a a geek subculture for at least for my impression predominantly geek kind of people who are who find an appreciation in the artistry of my little pony and that the people who are writing and directing and creating this thing are you know have that kind of aesthetic and that kind of appreciation but it’s not as weird as I thought it is but it is at the same time the reason that it has become a thing this is my theory the reason it has become a thing and that there are bronies and that there are dudes who identify themselves as fans of My Little Pony in a way that they would never identify themselves of as fans of Phineas and Ferb or whatever mm-hmm it’s because it is so diametrically opposed in terms of demographic the intended demographic is so different from them that it makes it seem a little ironic or a lot ironic and then that’s why they’re so excited about it because it was like hey man I’m I’m so cool that I like My Little Pony it isn’t that it isn’t good I understand we watched a little bit of it before this this episode and I understand you know I could I could sit there it’s bearable on some level I’m not really that into it but and I’m I’m with a sense of rebellion that people are sort of like I’m rebelling against what’s normal it’s not normal for me to like this so therefore I’m going to like it that much more and the whole brony culture actually really was bolstered because people were posting on 4chan about ponies and things like that and they started to be inundated with hate and then there was these wars on 4chan cuz you know how people are in 14 they can be they can be really nasty to you in those forums I don’t participate in those forms I’ve just heard it they’re scared Chocolate Rain was birthed if I’m actually a an editor before at fortune and just I can’t reveal my name because I would compromise a lot of things oh yeah well then you know that for some for a certain point anything Pony related was banned from 4chan because it became such a war I am NOT an editor at 4chan I don’t want our entire website to be brought down by 4chan but the brony community was forged in the fires of 4chan and then from that that kind of rebellion I get this is so weird what are you doing this it’s it’s deviant well I say the question really deviates from the mean and so in that the question for you the question for me I think I’ve made I’ve made a decision I’m not gonna be a brony I’m not interested in being a brony Mike I have two boys so I’m not gonna have have my little pony just being piped into my house on a regular basis anyway but you are the father daughter and so you’ve got my little pony right in front of you on a daily basis maybe weekly and you have to make a decision are you going to be a brownie or just gonna be the father of a girl that likes my little pony I think I’m gonna be a brony I think there’s an opportunity for me to you know to bond with my daughter and you know have a father-daughter connection there in terms of you know liking the same form of art are you gonna go to like conventions and stuff too it could happen it can happen I could become a furry I don’t even know what that is so don’t hold me to that nothing like a brony I think is solidly different I think there’s some crowd I think there’s some overlap you don’t want to be a furry oh okay trust me but yeah tell us what you think in the comments what is your perspective let’s not make this a 4chan thing this is a friendly environment oh by the way there’s lots of mythical beasts in episodes of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic all of the evil characters from my understanding a mythical beast that fan not red link fans but no I mean like like a mythical be like a Manticore like is it is a bad guy half lion I really got to study up on mythical beasts it got called out in the in the yeah the tattoo episode we call it a centaur in mandatory I agree with you even though I actually knew what a cetera but we gotta do better than that so I apologize
