be glad that you were here you’re gonna have glad faces when this is done that’s that’s the level of confidence that I’m bringing the wave to myself I’ll do the wave – I feel like doing the wave do the wave at home or at work or wherever you happen to be enjoying your good mythical morning up in Harvard or up at Harvard which is apparently as a university with a lot of smart people apparently they do something called its little play on the Nobel Prizes and is the big noble get it big noble ignoble ignoble meaning the opposite of noble meaning base or lowly meaning just something that not all shouldn’t make a big deal about okay but what they have done and I don’t know when this started but they started these awards that celebrates discoveries that are things that should be some usual things that you’re like oh well who would have spent time thinking about that but then they talk about them and they bring them to light in a way that it’s really just become a way to celebrate funny inventions and funny discoveries that there is some scientific merit to them okay so this is right up our alley we like we like to endeavor into the realm of frivolous research and I’m going to tell you about a few of these that won awards for this year and then we’re going to one on one that we’re going to actually demonstrate okay somebody want an award for a study that discovered that leaning to the left makes the Eiffel Tower seem smaller they actually did a study on this and determine that it’s true yes and they know why and that’s for another episode and there is a woman who invented a brassiere that can quickly convert into a pair of protective face masks we’ve actually we’ve actually got a photo of this one that’s a good idea kazutaka Kuwahara and cosy tsukada the other dude from Japan two guys they created the speech jammer a machine that disrupts a person’s speech by making them hear their own spoken words a very slight delay so this is a gun that you can point at somebody and then they hear themselves just a little bit delayed and it overpowers what they’re actually saying into jams their speech and they end up setting a gun so you pointed at somebody when they’re speaking it just has this like yeah it was like a speaker and then like a microphone a speaker that goes back to you and it makes it way you can’t talk yes and they won the top most ignoble award and and we’re going to explore this phenomena we don’t actually have a we don’t actually have a speech jammer but I thought you know we have like GarageBand mm-hmm and we have headphones that are very noise isolating okay and so what I have done is I’ve engineered a track here that link is going to be speaking into and he will be hearing himself speak a little bit late and I think you will find that he doesn’t sound like the normal link so if you’ll cut those on a song yeah okay the lights on and I thought maybe this is our version of speech jammer so before you begin speaking I want you to talk about something that you know about at links you can talk about it but it takes some explaining ice cream I want to talk about my favorite ice cream and how I go about eating it because I have a system okay make sure that’s working can you hear yourself in there can you hear yourself in there uh No testing testing testing you’re muted and now you okay yes there is a delay okay so tell me about your rub tell me about your favorite ice cream and how you eat it link my favorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s ice cream I have eaten in a lot cinnamon buns ice cream in it has cinnamon rolls dough it if you had a stroke and you okay I’m just trying to talk like normal but I’m hearing myself and it’s weird to me about it okay so I really have trouble talking it’s like I’m crazy j-just wait you can’t do that no it just messed it up there you go okay so it comes in a little container and then you instead of putting in a bowl like normal ice cream I just decide to put it in a leave it in the thing that is sin the container and then I’ll start digging around that edge because I like it when use at home I don’t I don’t know what’s happening it just feels really weird what you tell me about it I don’t know what the process is I like for the ice cream to be melted so I eat around that edge where it’s melted to most and then oh and then I don’t want to eat the whole thing because I want to save some for later what oh yeah I’m just uh trying really hard to tell you about this it is not easy so I want to eat only half of it but I it’s so good that I try to eat the whole thing and then when I get to the halfway point it I just keep eating and eating and before I know it I’ve eaten the whole thing right but I did know that so the next time I only try to eat half of it but I’m still dipping and dipping it in a bit uh-uh okay I didn’t get to finish basically what I do is I have to force myself to put it away and then uh I’ll only way to know to do to do it out of it you okay I feel like I’m going crazy it’s just driving me why I want to do it so hurry up and tell me how you’d eat your ice cream ah so then I’ll just take a I’ll take a spoonful and then it now I can’t even talk in real life does that sound crazy I’ll take a spoonful and then I’ll put the thing away and I won’t eat the last spoonful until I put it I’m gonna try this that’s what I was trying to say I’m gonna explain American football okay I I don’t know what that sounded like but it felt very weird okay so there are two teams and they have a have a of a ball there’s a ball made out of the pigskin haha I don’t think they they actually make it out of biggest kid I can I’m you’re pretty good but I have a concentrate they just made out of a pigskin and what what is it what are you playing on um they may don’t make it up back cuz they don’t make it I got a pigskin how did you do this so well discuss your has you good glasses yeah I could hear yourself what’s the object of the game the object up to the game to take the odd shape Bob put it into a little area that the other team is trying to prevent you from getting into this is making you crazy in it and if you are able to get your ball into the other purses in zones on yeah you get six points and when you get six points then you have the opportunity to get one additional point but you also have the option to ban identity its zone to gated additional to do boys and you can gay okay alright you could use nuts American football alright so quickly telling the way that he take those off and tell them what the way it really screws with my mind I would say that you got like eighty-five floating of your words correct but see you now you can’t talk right it’s still messing with you tell them quickly how to do it in GarageBand basically here let’s do this let’s mute this so basically the way it works is I created a track in GarageBand and then I added an echo effect to the track and I made the echo like a very small fraction of a second I don’t know exactly what it was but then I muted you can’t hear yourself at all i muted the original track and made it only the echo track okay and I made it incredibly loud and then you monitor it then you lose like really noise-isolating headphones and so if you sound like a moron and if you want to play a trick on a friend you can get them to say I’m gonna record you telling a story or something then you do that don’t tell me well because I think they want when you don’t know what’s happening it’s gonna be even more anything I was a very slight delay it because I said it on a slightly longer delay it makes you even crazier sounding but it’s funny we actually this is something the speech jammer it was not the original right inventor of this we actually watched a radio show where you listen to a radio show back home john-boy and Billy we’ve been on the show a few times not in North Carolina and they used to do this with a police officer that would come on named Donny Presley lay off honey Ferber and they did it to him and they gave him the delay and they didn’t tell him how to delay and he sounded like a absolute idiot every time they told so did you yeah me not so much anyway you can have some fun with your friends and it’s safe it’s no one’s gonna get hurt me some people’s feelings might get hurt but all right so have fun without with your friends shout
