GMM 1892: KFC & Chipotle Mashup Menu Taste Test

Today we make Chipotle finger licking good. – Let’s talk about that. (cheerful music) Good Mythical Morning. – And welcome to the second edition of our series where we combine food items from two popular chain restaurants and create one delicious food baby menu. – Now last time we mashed together McDonald’s and Taco Bell and discovered that the world is missing out on taco nuggets. But, that mashed up menu felt like it might be missing some mash. – But we got the mash coming in strong today, in the form of mashed taters, and all kinds of other goodness, finger licking in genre, from KFC, and we’re gonna be mixing it up with all those tasty burrito genre morsels from Chipotle. It’s time for Menu Mashup, KFC and Chipotle Edition. Now if you heard that there was a brand new Kentucky Fried Chipotle just around the corner- – I would drop everything, I might pick you up, but I would definitely go at least by myself, and immediately check it out. – I would drive you. So your greasy hands wouldn’t be on the- – So we’re not going in. It’s a drive through, I get it, I get it. – Yeah, that’s right. – It’s a drive through, we’re not going in. – But you don’t have to do that, because the kitcheneers have brought it to us. – Here’s what we’re gonna be doing, we’re gonna be tasting two new KFC Chipotle hybrid menu items in every round, one’s gonna be a KFC item infused with some Chipotle ingredients, and the other’s gonna be a Chipotle item made with some KFC ingredients. We’re gonna choose our favorite between the two, and then we’re gonna add it to our KFC Chipotle merged menu, and you know what? Maybe we’re gonna bring these two franchises together for a pop-up restaurant your colon will never forget. Speaking of mash, we’ve got some taters over here, what’s happening, Josh? – [Josh] All right, so that is our loaded mashed potato dip, it’s cilantro, lime, cheesy mashed potatoes, and then you are going to dip our 11 secret herbs and spices chips into there. – Whoaho, you got the 11 herbs and spices on these chips? – [Josh] Oh, sure did. – Whoa! I didn’t think you were gonna be able to get that much flavor. – Wow. It’s… – [Rhett] It’s a lot. – [Josh] It’s the 11th herb and spice that you taste. – [Rhett] I like it. – It’s like, you think it’s just salty, and then it’s like, it starts to burst into 11 types of salty. – But this is what I like about it. Both of us, I know we were thinking “Mashed potatoes,” so we went in really hard, but the flavor consistency, or the flavor potency is more of a dip, so you have to go dip quantities, not just like “I’m eating taters,” you know? – Uh-huh. – Okay, I’m a fan of that, now what do we have over here? – [Josh] That’s our spicy queso mac and cheese, it’s macaroni noodles mixed with the white queso from Chipotle, as well as the spicy red salsa, and then it’s topped with sofritas. – Now, the Chipotle queso is trouble. More people than not do not like it. – [Rhett] Especially when it first came out, but now people still get it and they don’t complain about it as much. – ‘Cause they know what to expect, and it’s that it’s, I mean, it kinda has a… Like what’s that nut cheese? It kinda has a nut cheese kind of a- – Nut cheese consistency. Whoa, this is spicy, bruh. – [Josh] Thanks, bruh. (Rhett laughs) – Bruh? Ooh, it is spicy. You added the spice. – I feel like I’ve been here before, you know what I’m saying? It’s very very spicy. I like it, I wanna eat more of it, I would eat a whole thing if there was enough time. – Yeah, it’s a complete thing. Once you figure out the dosing of this. – The dosing, that’s a perfect word, you have to dose it correctly. – You gotta dose those 11 herbs. I mean, this is ready to be on a menu, this requires instructions. – And that’s going on the internet. You know what I’m saying? Like… – So here we are torn, right at the beginning. ‘Cause I mean, there’s no doubt this is fabulous. – This happens quite often. I feel like I’m either being- – You think you’re right and you have to convince me? – No, I’m being gaslit or I am actually crazy, where you say something that sounds like we’re all on the same path. And Stevie’s laughing ’cause she knows what I’m saying, he’s like “Man, once you figure out the dosing, yeah,” and then he’s like “But this is ready for the menu.” So I don’t know what to think. – I’m saying you need to figure out the dosing. You have to have instructions. – You call it a dip. If you call it a dip, which is what we are calling it, we’re calling chips and mashed potato dip, not chips and mashed potatoes, so I think the dosing is just, we just weren’t listening. – Can we just remove our ego from the equation? – Okay, we’ll go with the everyday spicy queso bowl, put it on the menu. – I’m gonna vote for the dip. – Okay! Put the dip on the menu! – I’m a little confused, but I’m also excited. What’s this, Josh? – [Josh] So those are our Chipotle Chicken Little sandwiches, it’s Chipotle chicken, shredded cheese, salsa, that’s the tomatillo salsa and barbecue sauce hybrid, lettuce, pickles, and pico on the KFC Chicken Little bun. – Okay. – So the KFC Chicken Little is a thing already. – So it’s basically just… – He’s desecrating your item, just so you understand. – [Josh] It’s a loose meat sandwich. – [Rhett] He didn’t just take the tomatoes off, he took every ingredient except the chicken off. – And now what am I doing? Putting everything back, except for the chicken. – And what am I doing? I’m eating it. – The interesting thing, yeah, it’s basically just like, instead of a burrito, it’s a little bun. – [Rhett] It has a torta-like quality. – [Josh] Mm-hm, yeah, pretty similar to a torta. – It’s good. – I like. What’s happening over here? – [Josh] All right, so those are our Chipotle chicken fried steak tacos, we’ve actually taken the carne asada from Chipotle, it is a new, limited time only offering, and then we have chicken fried those strips with the 11 secret herbs and spices, then put that into a hard shell taco with pico, lettuce, and guac. – So… – Kentucky fried steak. – Where’d you get the 11 secret herbs and spices, if they’re secret? – [Josh] We got a guy. I’m not allowed to say who he is, he’s on some lists. – Is it like a former KFC employee on Reddit, like released the recipe? – [Josh] It’s not not a former KFC employee on Reddit. – Okay, all right. – This one tastes really cinnamony to me, I don’t know what happened. You taste cinnamon? Something about- – [Josh] Don’t give away the secret. – Mm. ‘Cause if you just isolate this, this carne asada… Here it is. Yeah, it’s sticking out. – Huh. Yeah, there is cinnamon. – Strange. Deep fried carne asada. – What I don’t like about it, is a taco is already a little bit dry, because of like, especially a hard taco. And so I feel like I would need even more wetness. Is that a technical term? Wetness on this taco, in order for it to really land for me. So unexpectedly… – We’re going with the torta here, because I’m a big fan of the Chipotle chicken, and it’s front and center, in a totally different, but familiar, presentation. – So we’re putting the grilled Chipotle Chicken Little sandwich on the menu. – Hey, if you’re digging these unhinged food pairings, well, you need to check out and subscribe to the Mythical Kitchen channel, new videos come out every Tuesday and Thursday over there, and it’s, the culinary creativity is off the charts. – As is being demonstrated before me. Josh, what happened? – [Josh] That’s a heck of a question. So these are our chicken burrito drumsticks, we have taken a whole drumstick from KFC, we have wrapped barbacoa and cheese, multiple ingredients around that, then wrapped a tortilla around that, then tied it off and fried it, so it’s like your dream hybrid chimichanga drumstick. – So there’s meat and cheese inside this, and then there’s still chicken. – [Josh] Yeah, it’s basically a Beef Wellington. – Oh… Guys. – So you gotta take a bite all the way. – [Josh] Yeah, don’t eat the string. – It may be happening right now. What we’re about to sink our teeth into? – What is happening? – Just a beautiful mouth discovery. – Okay. Well, I believe that to be the case. – Which calls for a dink it. – Hold on, you have to get a big bite to get to the chicken. – And a big bite sink it. – Mm. Oh. Oh, lord! – There’s guacamole in there too. – Help me! – [Josh] You owe me $1.60. – [Rhett] Oh my gosh. – I’ll gladly pay it. – I went all the way through the chicken. – It’s splendid. I’m actually waiting for the chicken to hit, because… – Wait for the chicken to hit. – The beauty is, even if you don’t bite really deeply, and get chicken on that first bite, by the time you eat all of this, you’re still left with, I mean a chicken leg. And that’s great. – Is that a tortilla? – [Josh] Yeah. – It almost tastes like filo dough. – [Josh] I know, when you fry it, I think the grease from the chicken hit it from the inside, and the grease from the fryer hit it to the outside. Got a double grease sandwich. – It worked. Okay, but, listen, there’s something interesting happening on this side as well. – This is state fair material. – Lot of tying, though. Lot of tying. They got time to do that at the state fair? – I like the string. – [Josh] You get to keep the string. – What’s happening here, Josh? – [Josh] So that’s a Nashville hot chicken burrito, we got KFC Nashville hot chicken tenders, beans, rice, cheese, pickles, with a spicy agave mustard sauce on the side. – I’ve never had the Nashville hot chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken, because Nashville is not in Kentucky. – Yep. There might be a little Nashville in Kentucky that people are like, it’s like 5000 people live there, you know how that happens sometimes? Like there’s a Paris, Texas. – Well, you know what, just to go evensies on it, we’ll dink and sink this too. Dink it, sink it. Fried chicken in a burrito. – No big deal. – It’s great. – It’s good, and that, the mustard is actually a really nice touch I wouldn’t have thought about. – I would order this off a menu, but I think this is on a menu. – Hm. – Or something very close to it. – Well, clearly, this is a revelation. – Yeah. This is just, people line up around the block, just because other people are in line. – They’re gonna have to figure out how to do the knot tying. I’m a little bit concerned about that. – Edible knots. – Well, we’ll take that into consideration. – Isn’t that what a pretzel is? – Yeah. Wrap it in pretzels. Either way, we’re putting the chicken burrito drumsticks on the menu. – Dogs eat all their food from bowls and pots, and dogs are awesome. Josh, what do we have here? – [Josh] Sorry, I’m stuck on the dog thing. – I don’t understand, yeah. – [Josh] The KFC burrito pot pie. – Pot pie? – Do you feed your dog from a pot? That’s what I’m trying to wrap my head around. You said “Dogs eat all their food from bowls and pots.” I’m like, “Who’s feeding their-” I mean maybe like a big dog, like a Saint Bernard might eat out of a pot. – You never had something in a pot that you wanted to feed a dog, and instead of putting it in a bowl, you just kept it in the pot? – No, I have not. You have? – Me neither. – [Josh] So there’s carnitas, rice, beans, veggies, salsa and gravy. – [Rhett] Inside the pot pie. – [Josh] Correct, and we baked some hot sauce into the crust. – Look at this, oh, look at oh, oh, oh, it’s flaky. Boy. Boy’s flaky. – Oh boy. – You can, I mean there’s a whole side there, you can just go for it. I’m not gonna be- – [Link] Oh, you weren’t making that bite for me? – Nope. Look at that. – Oh, wow word. Wow word. Why worry? Oh my goodness. – I don’t know if I can get this whole bite in my mouth, but I’m gonna certainly try. It smells incredible. – Mm. So Chipotle-y. – Whoa. – I’ve been Chipotle’d. Get it? – Yeah. But, that crust on the top. – [Link] That’s what makes a pot pie brilliant. – You wouldn’t think that you’d want that mixed in with your Chipotle’s tasting. – That’s good. I mean, any day of the week you could do that. I mean, you know how to make a bowl better? Make it a pot pie. – I don’t know if I would do it on the weekends. Sometimes weekends can get too pleasurable for me. – Yeah, you wanna stretch out the pleasure? – Yeah, I tend to eat really bland food on the weekends, just to keep myself in check. – So we got a bowl here. Is it famous? – [Josh] You tell me. So this is the Chipotle famous burrito bowl. So the base are actually chopped and refried KFC French fries, essentially turned into rice, we have a guacamole gravy covering the whole thing, Chipotle queso blanco popcorn chicken, and then the fajita veggies. – Okay. I got a piece of popcorn chicken, but I’m trying to also get some of those refried fries? – [Josh] Yeah, we essentially riced French fries. – I like that. – Man. – [Link] This is rich. – Huh. This is not easy. I was thinking it was just gonna easily be the pot pie, because it’s a pot pie. – So much of this is fried, that it’s good. It’s actually more decadent than the pot pie, by a long shot. – Well I wouldn’t go that far. I mean look at what’s inside that pot pie. There’s a little bit of a “Those were French fries at some point,” sorta taste, which is not necessarily- – I think the beauty of a pot pie is that, there’s this roof on it, it’s a real tasty roof that, I mean when you look down at this, if you stare at that long enough, and don’t, you will get sad. – You need a roof. If that had a roof, it would be in competition, but are we both on pot pie page? – Yeah, I mean, no, I’m saying I like this better. Yes, I like the pot pie better. – I feel like I have to check. All right, so the burrito pot pie is going on the menu to join the chips and mashed potato dip, the grilled Chipotle Chicken Little sandwiches and the chicken burrito drumsticks. – Mm-hm, thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell. – You know what time it is. – Hey, I’m Cody from Kentucky, and I’m at Mount Rushmore. It’s time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. – Cody from Kentucky, it’s amazing how that was formed by erosion. – I know. What a coinkidink. – All right, click the top link to watch us taste test tasted taste… – Taste test flavored honeys. – Yeah, that’s what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna taste a bunch of honey on biscuits in Good Mythical More. – And to find out where the Wheel of Mythicality is gonna land. – [Josh] Yeah, I put ice in my cereal, so what? – [Nicole] That makes no sense. – [Josh] Hot dog is a sandwich. – [Nicole] A hot dog is a sandwich. (both laugh)
