Transcript

- Science experiments, yes.
Instructions, no.
- Let's talk about that.
(upbeat music)
(singers vocalize)
(ball rumbles)
"Good Mythical Morning."
- We love to experiment here.
We experiment with new
snacks in the break room,
new games on this show,
and Rhett's beard is
actually an experiment
without any end in sight.
- And Link experiments
with blasphemous ways
to eat pot pies!
Experiments are fun for everybody.
- Especially when they're conducted
without any instructions whatsoever.
It's time for
(upbeat music)
Science Without Guidance,
featuring the Beaker Boys.
- [Mikayla] I'm back here now.
- Hey!
- Hi.
- Science Mikayla's back there.
- [Mikayla] So you have 10 minutes
to create a specific scientific result
using the items in front of you.
Be careful though, because
there are some decoy items.
You'll start with 25 points,
and if you have any
points left at the end,
you'll win the game.
- We will.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
- We will win the game.
- I'm confident.
- [Mikayla] I actually believe in you two.
Maybe me being back here will be
a little bit more helpful to you-
- Okay.
- Instead of being
over there.
- Well, I certainly hope so.
- [Mikayla] As you know, there
are some lifelines available,
but they cost you points.
- Yes.
- [Mikayla] And your
10 minutes starts now.
- We have water.
- Water.
- We have oil-
- Oil.
- Of cooking variety.
We have a classroom level
laser pointer.
- Okay, yes,
this isn't the kind of laser
that could like put your eye out, okay?
Like we had last time.
We're not gonna shine
in each other's eyes,
but no one's gonna get hurt.
- We've got a box, which I
think I want to keep on this.
A balloon, sugar,
and some sort of-
- Old tuna can.
- Let me see.
If you shine it in the tuna can,
that starts to go around.
- Can you melt sugar with it?
- Whoa!
- Whoa, it gets so bright.
- Look at how bright it gets on the-
- [Rhett] Why is sugar so bright?
Why is sugar so bright?
(people laugh)
- Do you see how bright?
- Did you know sugar was so bright?
- It refracts.
- It's like snow.
It's like snow.
- Oh!
Look at that.
- [Rhett] Well, that wasn't as exciting
as you made it seem.
- Can you dim the lights?
Oh, yeah. Lights are dimmed.
That's all you got? Okay.
- Hold on, Link.
- Look at that. See these?
- Hold on. Shine it again.
Shine it into this.
Okay, now shine it into the...
- Nothing. Nothing into
the water, but the oil.
I think it might be-
- Hold on.
- The container though.
- I have an idea.
- Let's put oil in this.
- Oil and water in that.
- Right, sure.
- And then I think what you're gonna do,
I think that you're gonna be able to get
the laser to literally refract around
in one of these liquids,
but not the other.
And it's gonna create
like a magical situation.
- Okay, like a...
Like what I thought of a bounce house
the first time I got in one.
- Tell me more.
- It's like, am I on another planet?
Do I weigh less here?
- Oh.
- Why am I surrounded by children?
(people laugh)
- You thought you were on the moon.
Yeah, you should.
- I have locked this in such a
way that I can't turn it off.
(person laughs)
It's unturnoffable.
So what we're gonna need to do
is we're gonna need to let
this sit and don't shake it.
Don't shake the box.
- Yeah.
- That's a lot of oil.
Okay.
- Yeah.
- And then-
- Now just let that
sit for a second
and let's talk about something.
Let's talk about the first time
you went to the bounce house.
- I don't know how to turn this off.
- Okay, let me hold it.
- I feel like we need
to put sugar in it too.
- No, no, no, no, no.
(people laugh)
- You think this is all it's gonna be?
This is not a science
experiment just to like do that.
- I think you're gonna be able...
Turn the lights off.
(person chuckles)
- Dim them down.
- So I think what you're
gonna be able to do...
I can't get it under there because it's-
- Let's get rid of, get rid of it.
- Yeah, we don't need that.
- We don't need that.
- And I'm trying...
It's gonna bounce around inside there.
- What are you trying to do?
- I'm trying to get it
to bounce off of one...
I know I'm shining it over there, y'all.
(people laugh)
Hold it up, hold it up.
- You're trying to get it-
- To bounce off of them-
- To bounce off
and then like ding-wing.
- Yes. Yes, within a liquid.
- Oh, it's not working yet.
Just do it from the top.
Start at the top and go down.
Ah, that did it.
- Is it working?
- Is that doing it?
(people clap)
Okay, we've already got it.
See, we nailed it.
Now, even though we've got it,
I don't know that we have it.
(people laugh)
- [Mikayla] Well, because vegetable oil
has a higher index of
refraction than water or air,
sending focused light into
it will display a phenomenon
known as total internal reflection.
- Yes, total internal reflection!
I have seen this before.
- [Mikayla] Well, I want to
see my friend Lucas do it too.
(upbeat music)
(people chuckle)
- Did he just point to his wedding band?
(people laugh)
(Link chuckles)
(Rhett laughs)
(Link laughs)
(people laugh)
- We get it.
You're married.
Oh!
Oh, he did a double.
- He did a double and also he's married.
(people laugh)
- You did a double.
That's right, ladies and gentlemen.
Everyone who was interested
in Lucas, he's taken.
- He's off the market.
Isn't that right, Mad Dog?
- [Mad Dog] That's right.
That's what the video is for.
(people laugh)
(upbeat music)
- [Mikayla] Your lifelines are the same.
Time starts in three, two, one.
- We'll be fine. Do you see
what we did in round one?
We did it without any help at all.
- [Mikayla] You're doing so
good. Your eyes are so relaxed.
(people laugh)
(Mikayla laughs)
- Now all we have is a big metal pit tube.
Almost at a big metal pube. I'm sorry.
- We got a big metal pitube here.
That's nice that you'd
put that on the end of it.
- Blow on it and see what happens.
(air whooshes)
(balloon sputters)
- (laughs) Did you hear that?
- Whoa, it's a fart machine!
- Sounded like a upset seal.
Sea lion?
- Again?
(air whooshes)
(balloon sputters)
- Yeah.
(air whooshes)
(balloon sputters)
- It's a seal caller.
(people clap)
(Rhett laughs)
- Is that it?
- That's it.
- [Link] What else we got?
- We have a bed of nails, Link.
So we have the-
- Top.
- The bottom there.
- Then if we blow this
against the bed of nails-
- Let me show you what else I have.
I have Play-Doh, which is
just to play with probably.
And then I have these magnets that are so,
so frickin' powerful.
(magnet thuds)
Whoa!
- [Link] Wow. Wow!
- I mean, look, look at that.
What if I put them right in the middle?
(metal clangs)
- Wow, that's some
powerful magnet. I mean...
- You do not want to swallow these.
You swallow two of these.
What happens is,
like if you take one of these-
- Oh, don't even say it.
- And you swallow it.
- And you wait.
- And then you wait
an hour.
- Ha. Don't you do that.
- And you swallow another one.
Then what happens is it starts moving
through your intestines,
and then it gets into
your small intestine,
and then it finds the
other one, and then boom!
- The only way to get it out-
- They go together,
and they have to open you
up to take them apart.
(balloon sputters)
- [Mikayla] All right,
let's show Lucas doing that.
(Rhett laughs)
- Don't do that.
(magnet thuds)
Whoa!
- This is really sharp here.
- I think this is like...
- I think it's a decoy.
- I think if you blow up a balloon-
- Around this.
- And then you think about hardness-
- What if I put the
balloon inside of there
a little bit?
I don't want to bust the balloon though.
- And then what?
(air whooshes)
(people laugh)
- Isn't that crazy?
- What?
(balloon sputters)
- Ho, ho! Noise.
(people laugh)
- Oh, noise!
Science is fun!
(air whooshes)
(air whooshes)
(balloon pops)
- Ooh.
- Okay, you do it.
Let's pop.
- You want to cheat a little bit?
- Yeah.
- Get help.
- I don't want to cheat.
- Let's get a hint.
- Which one? Decoy?
- The pop.
(graphic pops)
- The pop.
- Yeah. The pop hint.
- Bring the balloon in.
(balloon pops)
- There you go. Read that.
(magnet thuds)
(Rhett gasps)
It's so strong.
- Did you see what I just did?
(magnet thuds)
It's harder than it looks.
(magnet thuds)
- Oh, that's cool.
- I love those magnets.
- Will these stick to this?
I really think this is a decoy.
- Got it. "Don't feel deflated.
You're great under pressure."
This is gonna be about the
pressure in the balloon,
and I think that it doesn't have-
- "Don't feel..."
I need a new one of these. Okay.
So "Don't feel deflated." What?
- "You're great under pressure."
So it's a question of pressure.
- Pressure.
- Do you think...
- Deflated?
- Hmm.
- I bet you,
if you put this around that...
- I think that if you blow up a balloon
and you stick it in there,
and then you put the thing
on top of it, it won't bust.
- Or-
- Because...
- Because the reason why
you can walk on nails
is the distribution of-
- It's a distribution of pressure.
- I want to put this down.
I want to put this here.
I want to put this on it.
And then I'm gonna use this
to raise up the bed of nails.
- This is one way to do it.
- Don't you think?
Blow on that.
Don't move it though. I'm gonna hold.
(air squeaks)
(board thuds)
(air whooshes)
(people laugh)
- Not everybody can do that.
(bars beep)
(air whooshes)
- Okay.
- He made a balloon holder.
- So now I've got that.
Don't be deflated. Got this.
Then what?
(people laugh)
He got so excited.
- I thought we made a projectile device.
- Oh, you want to fire this?
- I wanted to shoot Play-Doh out.
- Yeah, fire that way. Right here.
- It doesn't work. It doesn't work.
It's in there.
You got it really plugged up, man.
- Don't be deflated.
- What about something with these mags?
- Well, do we want to get
a hint or do we want to-
- Yes, we only have four minutes.
- All right, Mikayla,
we need a three-point
deduction for a hint.
- Okay.
(graphic pops)
- Or the point.
What is the hint? The point of it?
- Three points for the hint.
(people laugh)
- What is the point of it?
- What is the point? Oh, yeah.
- Isn't that the hint?
- Yes.
- You tell us the point.
- [Mikayla] You're confusing me.
- Three point.
We're gonna give you three
points to tell us the point.
- [Mikayla] Okay, that
sounds good. I like that.
- And a little extra
time for your confusion.
(people laugh)
- [Mikayla] All right. Don't pop off.
Proper distribution will get you
the result you need.
- See.
- [Mikayla] And you're popping
off at me for no reason,
so don't pop off.
- Don't pop off. Proper distribution.
- Here's what you got to do.
Inflate the balloon.
(air whooshes)
Tie the balloon.
- I had to use the tube to...
- Well, you could use the tube.
Place the balloon onto the thingamajig.
And then place the top on it gently.
- Or why don't we do this?
This and this?
- Yeah, gently. Gently.
And then you just, you let it go.
- Push it. Push it.
- Push it.
- [Mikayla] Push it down.
- Push it down. Look at that.
(people clap)
- I didn't hear anyone
whispering over the mic
to push it down.
- You can't pop it.
- What?
- It's impossible to pop.
- Oh, my God!
- That is correct.
- Oh, no, guys!
(board thuds)
- Oh!
- Wow, I'm glad my hands
weren't under there.
- Yeah.
- [Mikayla] Well,
basically what happened was
poked by a single nail,
a balloon will pop
because of all the force
focused on a single point.
- Yeah.
- [Mikayla] But when a balloon is pushed
against a bed of nails, the force
is evenly distributed-
- Yep.
- [Mikayla] Keeping the balloon intact.
- Yep, I bet you-
- I kind of want to see-
- We did it better than Lucas.
- Lucas do it.
(upbeat music)
- Yep. Oh.
(people laugh)
(upbeat music continues)
Okay. He's blowing up a balloon.
He is taken.
Yep. Exactly what we did.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
(upbeat music continues)
(Rhett laughs)
So are you trying to smile
now that you're married?
- [Lucas] No, it's just how I smile.
- Yeah, he smiles like someone in pain.
- Yeah.
- Oh.
- [Lucas] I have a hard time with it.
- He's taken, ladies.
- Look, I have something pretty
awesome that I discovered.
Watch this.
(people laugh)
Because look, there's a ball.
This is not magnetized.
There's the other ball-
- Oh.
- Is in there.
- Oh. Oh.
- This is...
- Rhett.
- Just This little...
(balls ring)
- Okay. Now point-
- Hold on, let me relax my eyes.
(people laugh)
- And point to your wedding band.
Point to your wedding band.
(people laugh)
- Touch it. Touch my little nib.
It's so fun.
- The crew carved up some pumpkins,
and we're gonna judge them in
today's Good Mythical MORE.
- Mythical society members,
show us what you got too.

(upbeat music)
- [Mikayla] Fun round.
Lifelines are the same.
- We are dominating, dude.
- Eyes are relaxed.
- Lifelines shmiflime.
- Eyes are relaxed.
Hearts full.
- Okay.
- [Mikayla] Time starts
in three, two, one.
- We have a paper cup.
- We can't lose.
- There's some things about that paper cup
you should notice.
- Holes.
- We've got pink sand.
- Circles, I mean.
- Circles that imply holes.
A big one, a medium-sized
one, and a small ones.
Some of these are decoy holes.
That right there.
- A foam dart.
- See if that would go
in one of those holes.
A knife.
- Well, yeah.
- X-Acto knife.
A balloon, a...
Oh, look at this.
This toilet paper roll
looks about the width
of the big hole there.
- Yes.
- And then we've got tape
so we can keep it together,
and a funnel so that...
Oh, and I just, I can't help but notice-
- [Rhett] That looks like
it should go in there.
- [Link] That there's some Sharpie
on the edge of this funnel.
- And also Lucas gave me more magnets.
- So he's trying to distract you.
- But look.
- Don't let him distract you.
- You can make them into
a ring. Look at that.
That's crazy what you can do.
And if you do this-
- He's getting distracted.
- You can actually fold it back on itself
a little bit lower-
- I'm gonna take this.
- Like that.
And then you do that and
roll it back on itself.
- What am I gonna do
here? I'm gonna take this.
This is crazy. This is crazy.
- [Mikayla] I can't believe
Rhett is the distracted one,
and Link is the one with the knife.
- I love magnets.
(people laugh)
- The longer he's distracted,
the more I get to use this knife.
Maybe cut my thumb off a little bit.
- [Mikayla] Yeah, your thumb
is just a long one for me.
- Why is it...
- That's how you
have to do it.
That's how you do these things.
It's an art knife.
- Well...
- You don't have to do it in that way.
Okay, stick it in there.
- Stick it in there.
- Perf.
- Not quite.
And then what?
So now I feel like we need
to put tape around this.
- But okay, but what are we gonna do?
'Cause is this part of it?
Another balloon?
(Link vocalizes)
(people laugh)
- Yeah, that is one way to see it.
- You put a balloon,
and maybe if you put this in there,
what is that gonna do?
- I think the sand is going to...
- Put the sand in there?
Well, yeah, pour the sand in there.
- But just like you said,
don't lose sight of the fact
that you said that this
fits into that little hole,
that they literally drew
this hole like this.
Oh, this goes through. It goes through it.
- No. Uh-oh.
- It goes through it.
- It goes through what?
- It goes through it.
- No, it doesn't.
One of these holes, they
drew that around that
to make us think we're
supposed to put that in there.
And then they drew that around that
to make us think we
should put that in there.
- But what are we doing?
- And then they drew that around that
to make us think we'd put that in there.
- And then we put that in there.
- But maybe we shouldn't
have put that in there.
Maybe we'll put this in there.
- What would be the point of that?
- Because then we can do this.
- Oh, I know what it is.
- Do you see that?
- Undo that for a moment.
- Did you see that?
And then if I do this...
- Put it back into the thing.
Now, can you take this
and put this on this?
Now-
- Oh, and now put this.
- And you fill the thing with sand, yes.
- Yes, Rhett.
- Now-
- And then...
- I think that if you put a rocket
in this...
- Come on, be a showman now.
- And you shake it.
(people laugh)
You shake it.
You just take the sack here.
- No, no.
And you just shake it.
I'm lost.
(people laugh)
Maybe the magnets will help.
- Here, breathe into this.
- Okay.
This has got to be
something to do with it.
This has got to be something...
Oh, we just got brought more sand.
- I really don't think we need more sand.
- Oh, do you think we can curve the sand?
- Curve the sand?
- Oh, this is one of those things
where the flow of the sand-
- Yeah.
- Can be affected via...
- Oh, oh, oh.
(people laugh)
- Via something.
(air whooshes)
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- No, that's not what I mean.
What I mean is like, watch this.
Like, when it flows out, right?
No, not into your mouth,
but into the thing, there's a way...
(air whooshes)
(people laugh)
Okay.
- You got five minutes.
- Don't try that at home.
Okay, we need a hint.
Pop a balloon.
- Pop the balloon.
(graphic pops)
(balloon pops)
- Let me read this.
"Ride the wave and make some noise."
Wave, noise.
- Oh, oh, oh.
- Ride the wave-
- Got it.
- Make some noise.
- Got it.
I know what we're gonna do.
Okay. We're gonna need a new one of these.
A new cup.
- We're gonna need a new cup.
- No, no. Yeah?
- Yeah. Yeah.
- What we're gonna do, Link-
- It's still got the things
going on here.
- Can you give me
a new balloon, please?
- What are you thinking? "Ride the wave."
- We're going to...
Okay, I know what we're gonna do it,
and I have four minutes to do it.
Let me explain it to you.
- Where did my glue go?
- Listen, listen. I don't need it anymore.
I don't need it anymore! I've got it.
Listen to me.
- I can't remember.
Ride the waves.
- I don't need it!
I have it!
(people laugh)
- What, what?
- It doesn't matter!
I'm gonna stretch this membrane over this.
You're gonna tape-
- I think
you're really upset with yourself.
- You're gonna tape it?
(people laugh)
Okay. Listen to me.
Stretch this membrane from
the balloon over this,
tape it down.
Then we're going to-
- We'll do it.
- Put something like this in there.
In fact, we've already
done it, so let's do that.
Pour this out.
- Oh.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We don't need this.
- And what you're gonna do
is you are going to hum into this thing,
and it is going to...
- Make a wave.
- Make a shape.
- Oh, oh, oh.
- It's just like that woman
that I talked to you about,
the woman in Scotland
who did all this stuff.
And I said I wanted to have her
to play music at that festival,
we did that thing.
- Ryan Gosling also did it in
that movie about the planet,
saving it, you know.
When Ryan Gosling-
- Hold this out,
and I'm gonna cut through it.
- You're gonna cut through it.
- Yeah, because I want
to take the membrane
and I want to put it over the top.
Like this.
- But where is the sand?
- It's gonna be on top of the balloon.
- Oh, gosh. Why is he so upset?
- Okay.
- All right.
- Actually-
- The eyes are not relaxed.
- Right.
- That's gonna be too tight.
It's gonna have to be cut in even more.
Pull it even more because it'll-
- There's no way they
want us to cut a balloon.
- They do. Why did they
give us this thing?
Okay. So now hold that.
- Go in there.
- Over the top.
- And then we're gonna put...
Oh, Rhett, you have to tape.
You have to tape it.
- Oh. Actually, it's still too tight.
- I'll do the whole balloon.
- It's still too tight.
Yeah, maybe you just take the balloon,
and you just...
- Stretch it like a banshee.
- Stretch it? How do you stretch it?
- Stretch it hard.
- It's just too-
- No, not that.
The hole. This.
- No, no, that's not gonna work. No, no.
It's got to be...
No, you, understand what I'm saying.
Look, it's got to be flat.
It's got to be just a flick.
It's not gonna be a big balloon.
It's just gonna be a
flat membrane like that.
- Well, then that's it.
- No, 'cause it's too tight
'cause it's gonna...
What was it gonna stay?
- That's it.
- It's gonna stay?
- That's it. That's it.
- [Rhett] And now what we're gonna do is-
Now put the sand...
(tape scratches)
- [Mikayla] Two minutes.
- I don't even think I need
the tape, but you can do it.
I think that might lessen the vibration,
but it's done.
What's done is done.
- What's done is done.
- Now, put sand on top of the membrane.
- Okay, so now what we're gonna do is
we're gonna take-
- Just right on top.
We should have used a
different colored balloon.
- Yes. And then...
- I'm gonna get down low so you can see.
- [Mikayla] 90 seconds.
- Oh.
- Oh, sorry.
(people laugh)
(Link laughs)
(Rhett groans)
Lower, lower, lower, lower note.
Lower. Lower note.
Lower note!
- Oh.
(people laugh)
Less sand, not more sand.
(Rhett groans)
- There it is. There it is.
They clapped earlier, but
now nothing's happening.
(people clap)
- Oh.
- I bet Lucas
did that better than us.
- [Mikayla] He did it
way easier than you guys.
- Oh, he did?
- Oh.
- [Mikayla] Yeah, let's see.
(upbeat music)
(people laugh)
- We get it. You got married, yeah.
- Oh.
Well, he has an X-Acto knife.
- He didn't even...
(upbeat music continues)
Yes, yes.
- He's gonna do it on the
top without the balloon.
- He doesn't need the balloon.
(Lucas vocalizes)
(people laugh)
(upbeat music continues)
- Marriage is bliss.
(people laugh)
- That's a happily married man!
- Wow. Mm-hmm.
- Now,
if you want to-
- I bet she likes it
when you do that
in the bedroom.
- Pass.
- If you want to,
that lady, I can't remember her name.
- Lucas's wife?
- But she did.
(people laugh)
- [Mikayla] Marissa?
- I mentioned her in
a MORE many moons ago,
and she, like, what we just did,
she did it to some crazy
degree where she made
really complex images by
creating a giant thing
that she stood next to and did this on.
- Oh, yeah, she's an artist.
- And it was...
No, she was more of a scientist.
It was actually kind of crazy.
- Oh, well, I knew an artist.
- So instead of it just shaking,
it would make like, oh, there's a flower,
and then there's a crazy trapezoid.
It would be very like,
I don't know how
(indistinct) works.
- Better than this.
So Mikayla, what-
- But we still did it.
- What kind of shapes do we expect here?
- [Mikayla] No shapes.
Sound is just vibration.
So if you were a little bit
more musically inclined,
I guess you could make a cool shape.
- We're the problem.
- Yeah. It was our fault.
- [Mikayla] Yeah, I guess.
But you did win. Yay!
(bell dings)
- Oh, we won ages ago.
- [Mikayla] Yeah, but you got
through all three experiments,
so you get a prize,
which is a demonstration
from the world's most
scientific bodybuilder!
- Oh, wow. Look at that.
(people laugh)
Look, he's sitting on my magnets.
- [Mikayla] You can balance
it on your finger too
if you want.
- Look at him. He's just
sitting on my magnets.
- Isn't that just wild and
satisfying and inconsequential?
Thanks for being your mythical best.
- You know what time it is.
- Hi, I'm Justin.
- And I'm Kenzie.
- And we're from Washington, DC.
- And these are our mythical pumpkins.
- [Both] And time to spin
the wheel of mythicality.
- Mythical pumpkins. You shouldn't have.
- Y'all being your mythical best.
- But I'm glad you did.
- It's high time.
Something got out of here.
This
candle of this couple loving each other,
I'll tell you, I just can't
stand it anymore. (laughs)
- I mean, you could have burned it.
- It would've taken too long.
