should you see a movie just because everybody tells you to let’s talk about that good mythical morning okay this past weekend I finally saw the movie gravity you finally saw crap you hadn’t seen gravity and that is precisely what I want to talk about is this phenomenon of the collective pressure of the culture the culture telling you to go see a movie and you’re finally seeing it we talking about movie peer pressure here movie peer pressure highly controversial now let me start by seeing a couple of things as you know we are fathers we have children I that is a beautiful and wonderful thing when it comes to seeing movies when they first come out it’s not a real good thing for that don’t don’t drag me under the bus here I saw gravity like weeks ago dude but that was a highly unusual occurrence when you were like I saw gravity I was like you really already saw it you mean you didn’t wait for it to come out on DVD or digitally um yes but and not only not only this was the extra pressure this wasn’t the have you seen gravity you got to see gravity it was the and you got to see it in the theater and not just you got to see it in the theater you got to see it in 3d and not just that you got to see it in IMAX 3d now it was not only that you got to see it with your wife because this you don’t see it with your wife then she’s gonna be like why did you see this without me because it hit a better special thing for we could have grown closer but instead here you are watching Larry without me I want a divorce that’s exactly what happened okay no took it to see gravity and I have your marriage is better coming out getting it no yeah okay so anyway so we can’t talk about how great gravity was for like the next eight minutes because I really want to even though nobody cares but that’s the point but it is part of my story okay okay but here’s what her shot went down okay so the movies been out for a month or whatever right and so Jessie and I have been making this plans to go see it but you know you got to get childcare and you know and it was like passing legislation was the night childcare it was this past weekend where we were actually out on a triple date with another couple you were there you remember this yes and there was a late dinner but we were still like we’re gonna call our babysitter and say stay with the kids we’ll pay you more we’re staying out we’re going to like the 11 o’clock movie because this is the only window of time that we can find and see this we go into the theater there the movie is is you know previews are starting there’s three people in the movie and we sit right in front of them because it was stadium seating and they were in a really good spot okay I’m a tall guy yes but I got right in front cuz that’s a good spot right behind him no right in front of them better and these guys are like so you guys haven’t seen this either that’s the first thing these guys behind us say I’m self-conscious there are still some people on earth who have not seen this movie and here we are the five of us and this huge theater about to watch this movie you should have said no this is my third time I’m watching it this time only four shot composition now and I will say that the reason I went to see it is because everyone including you said you have to see this and so you feel this pressure and you’re and so and I feel like part of it is I don’t want to feel like I’m missing out but another thing is it’s like people are like legitimately no you need to see this you need to see a new theater and let me say quickly without going into a review of the movie I absolutely loved the movie it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time I do believe that it has slipped into my top 10 best movies of all time that’s how moving of an experience it was for any watch see you’re doing it absolutely loved it you’re applying pressure now to no one and that’s what happened I became a part of the pressure when we went back before we left we told our babysitter that we might stay out and watch the movie and she was like yeah yeah I was like you haven’t seen it no no she was she hadn’t seen it and she was like yeah I’ve heard lots of good things about it but I’ve had some friends who said it was boring and and then I said okay you know but that was before I was an advocate then I go see the movie I come back and let your friends are stupid this is the best movie ever you should go see it right now so you became a 9 9 year old yeah right exactly I became the person that liked you that became what got me to go watch it in the first place embassy there are people there’s two different types of people there are people who when they hear that they feel the pressure they immediately become contrary and you know those people who are like contrarians uh oh yeah it kind of sucked like they know that it’s got really good reviews they know everybody wants to see it and then they watch it and they are looking for a reason they didn’t watch as I know I’m not going to see it either they are like I’m not going to see it because everybody wants to see it or they see it and they purposely come up with a critical view of it because they want to seem cool I’m going to tell you right now I thought it was awesome if everyone everyone thinks it’s awesome because most people have good judgement apparently well I think that’s the there’s if you want to parse people in another way it’s the people who are who want to see a movie first and I think I’ll call those the trendsetters the people who said I saw gravity first I was the reason that it created all the buzz you know I was one of the first reviews of novices on Rotten Tomatoes kind of person and then you got the people who for whatever excuse use your kids whatever to say you know I’m the last person to watch this movie so I mean which is better the person to see it first the person to see it last and I think it’s it’s what what do you value do you value having having bragging rights or do you value only watching movies that are really great and I value watching movies that are really great so I’m gonna I want to make sure that everything is good but there’s a risk in being that type of person and that’s that it will be spoiled for you you know that you’ll you’ll you’ll start to hear things through the grapevine I mean I started seeing articles and wired and in Rolling Stone and I was like few weddings if you wait yeah so there’s that risk you got you have to make the choice here and then if you’re one of the people like us that waits there’s this mounting pressure that now you feel like you have to like it right I mean you you felt like if I don’t like this something’s wrong with me I’m not normal well I must not be no not normal and my wife going into it she was like I got to be honest with you I’m not excited about seeing this movie because it’s just about people in space – people in space is not the kind of movie that my wife is like all excited about but I was like I was three people technically spoiler alert everybody seen it man three people whose face um but she she loved it – I mean we we we bonded in fact we’re now planning a trip to space together because that’s how it was like a man and a woman in space at one shot where this stuff goes through the guy’s head you know I don’t I think everybody see know who’s gonna see it I don’t think that makes a Brooke Davis sitter haven’t seen it she doesn’t watch your show does she know your show or my show yeah there’s there’s a I didn’t tell you I’ve been doing this there’s an exclusive channel on YouTube which is just my half of the show and you like bleep out my house is it like um red everything you say is bleeped out and it’s it’s just empty Jesse the plumber who elbow mean would swish pan over and I also am out here at the scene of the Jesse Plummer non work site and now we’re coming to your show and we’ve got the bible’s troubleshooter weird – let’s try that again and we are the double trouble shooters and we dug let us speak you’re innocent but there would be a well speak in unison like yeah let’s do that we do a song like we did with your own and we are the double trouble shooters and we got up the pipes and found out that the pipes are not too new so Jesse you know we’re coming out you and we have weapons we have like a survival knife on in this end and what you take over and we’re not just anchors we’re dead corners and when we are at every bidding authority from the negotiation and local police department doesn’t jump you in the guy’s good I’m shooting in the gut and for the gunshot you’re going down Jesse that’s good violent good and violent that’s another one [Music]
