GMM 396: How To Determine Your Top 5 Strengths

are you an achiever and intellectual a futurist a war let’s talk about the mill morning uh in this revealing episode of good mythical morning we are going to take you through the results of our strengths finder test we along with our team members competed completed this we competed in it completed this test like myers-briggs for personality types but it’s more geared toward coming up with your five top strengths of which they’ve determined 34 it’s all designed so you know who you are and how you function as a part of a team because we got a team here and then we got a two-man team right you gotta work together we got to conquer the world to avert a 10 could I look into the distance yeah where were there yeah how we got to make it there yeah see that’s pep talk and plus we with my strange we just think it’s fun to analyze ourselves and other people we work with and talk about these things so we’re going to share that with you first of all you have to take a 30 minute test with our friend Jason jagged he he he administered the test is what he does this is what he does for a living it’s part good he kind of comes and helps you and he came in put our whole team through the paces the questions are kind of interesting you have two choices on a spectrum you mark which one you favor but they’re not opposites for example I want everyone to like me huh or I want people to adore me Oh sounds kind of like the same question I I guess I would put I would put it on the the one closer to I want everyone to like me but not all the way I think I remember answering this question and I put it right in the middle because I was like well I got a little bit of both here’s another one once I have made a decision I have to act that’s me I’m on the far left all the way the other end is I need to be sure I am right before I take action and now that was me so there’s definitely some opposites now okay so what you do is you take this test and then it automatically shoots out your top five strengths out of a total of thirty four different things and then you can it’s not like a machine that like actually it’s like a scantron basically it doesn’t shoot anything out it all happens on the internet it’s just text and then it’s like okay this is that this these are your top five and it gives you a little description of each and it’s actually based on your all your answers so what we’ve done is we’ve gone through we’re going to tell you what our top five are and then we’re going to read for each other a couple of sentences of each one of these things and see if you think it describes you okay I’ll see if it describes me and I will say in good mythical more if you want to click through to that we’ll go through more sample questions and like it can be kinda like a game which is also fun oh it’s a game do you want to start give one of my top five yeah I gave you my list you read about it I’ll do the same for you link you’re an achiever buddy that achiever you feel as if every day starts at zero by the end of the day you must achieve something tangible in order to feel good about yourself you have an energy almost at an Internet fire but no you have an internal fire burning inside you but you must learn to live with this whisper of discontent it is the power supply that keeps you moving I must learn to live with its whisper of discontent hey do you have a whisper of discontent that’s why I always whisper to you to try to speak to your heart I can always just describe you yes I never put it that way but I do feel like at the end of the day I do literally think back on that day and I find something to hold on to I did this today I feel good then you whisper to yourself tomorrow get more done tomorrow it starts because I’m so discontented in Slate okay your your top one is futuristic whoo Rhett your vision opens people’s minds to new and wondrous possibilities you challenge them to consider ideas they might not have thought of on their own hmm would you say that’s true but absolutely I mean in the simplest version of this you’re obsessed with the future I am the obsessed with the future I’m not where I go like a silver jacket and talk about the future you have been known to have done that in the past until I until you stiii in some of the other things it talks about is constantly obsessing about the future like you can’t enjoy the present because you’re thinking about the future and then you’re anticipating anticipating and then when you start experiencing the thing that you were anticipating you immediately begin anticipating the next that’s another future that is my life and I’m just like it is is this can I be achieving more right now is this good enough and you’re also a focus sir or you have focus your focus is powerful link because it forces you to filter you instinctively evaluate whether or not a particular action will help you move towards your goal those that don’t are ignored what this is why you ignore me sometimes see I did it was it you felt right anything you think I’m I’m not worth your focus uh I I just appreciate I’m very focused I appreciate the fact they presented as a strength because I think the way that I’ve always thought of it is a weakness that like I can only do one thing it wasn’t I have to devote everything to it like be really well focused yeah when so I certainly toss other things to the wayside like when you speak to me yeah this is what it actually was when doing something no it was very hard talking to I knew this about you already but destroy it in print to know that this is why I never listens to me now I understand well there’s other reasons I don’t listen to you but we shouldn’t get into that this is why he doesn’t listen to my ideas about the future right you are competitive in certain cases you observe people to better understand them perhaps this gives you the advantage you need to outperform or outscore them perhaps perhaps that is true I’m constantly sizing you up it’s not between the two of us I think when it comes to like scoring anything or something that can be scored I’m competitive you’d prefer to score it and I I hate that not about you I would just hate that for myself I don’t have a competitive bone in my body okay here’s another one I just did you will get to all five I don’t want to go through all all five of each and one of us in this because I want to talk about how Jason gave his professional opinion about how we work together because I’m going to pick one more for you okay and that is individualization well read them all but then camped out on that analytical Maximizer and then individualization okay you instinctively observe each person’s style each person’s motivation how each thinks and how each builds relationship this theme explains why you pick your friends just the right birthday gift what yeah you got me a ki5 tape one year and then after that was nothing actually I got you the Rakhi five tape I blame this I think they’re missing that a little bit I mean I know I just don’t I don’t give gifts that’s not my strength they you know I can’t you know it’s not it’s not a mission now your other ones are your activator ideation and command just to read ideation your reputation for innovation and innovative your reputation for innovative thinking partially explains why groups attempt to recruit you this explains why I get recruited by groups all the time like what like Scientologists oh I’m being constantly recruited you should see my inbox the groups that recruit me just one group after another I mean I always say no well that Klingon gurus I’m like I’m kind of in a group I hang out with this guy we do stuff together and we have a website uh okay so one thing to know there is no overlap that one in our time between our strengths so um and I and I asked today to what Jason I asked Jason Jagger to spark good who by the way he can do this for your company just go to his website and then he can come to your company and it’s incredible I said Jason based on your professional opinion of what you see in my five strengths and links five strings what do you think are some ways that we would have some conflict or what ways that we could work together this is what he says mhm Reb will be more likely to push something ahead that an idea is good enough and link is going to always want to make it the best idea possible which moves things forward more slowly I think we can relate to yeah that’s true you both achieve excellence differently red does it through bursts of action and creativity like a rocket ship taking off link does it through meticulous inspection and refinement like polishing an exotic sports car so I need to buy an exotic sports car and you need to buy a riot hmm that was probably not the application it can feel like link is getting in the way of an idea moving forward and to him it can feel like you don’t want this to be as good as it could be you want this to be as good as it can be the thing is you’re both right whatever both needed to make truly excellent ideas link we’re both right we can’t make it on our own we really got up mmm we gotta overcome our differences yeah those are those are strengths that combine listen and source for good here together force for good you know this bump I am yeah it’s like closing like a
