GMMore 1795: We Try White Hot Dogs (Taste Test)

(rooster crowing) (lion roaring) (wheel clicking) – Welcome to Good Mythical More. Have you ever tried a white, white, white hot dog? Or a white, I don’t… White? – White. – How do you say it without the H? I don’t know. – White. – White. – White. – White. – Yep. Yeah, that’s it, white. – White. – Nope. – Is the right way. – Nope, that’s incorrect. Alright, Merchicality, that means that we have found someone on the internet who was repping our Mythical merch! And we said, great job, Alexa Pace, you win a $30 mythical.com gift card so you can get some more! – Get you some more merch! – Keep repping! – Yeah. While we’re at it, all of you go to mythical.com. Yeah. They got necklaces now over there, and they, I mean us. Silver and gold necklaces, Mythical necklaces. Check that out. – You know, you never went through a phase- – Mythical.com! Where I wore a necklace? – I wore a necklace, you know, wearing a chain in high school was sort of thing, I had a gold chain with a basketball hoop on it. – In college, I had like a, I had a beaded, metal necklace that I wore. – I don’t remember this. – I wore it for, I dunno, it was like junior year. – Does your, ’cause our kids are doing- – I don’t know where I got it. – Our kids are doing the stuff that we were doing when we were in high school because the 90s are back. And so, kids are, boys are wearing like gold chains. Locke has a gold chain, does Lincoln have a chain? He seems like a chain kind of guy. – I don’t think he’s made the leap. ‘Cause when you start wearing a chain, it’s like all of a sudden it’s like, oh, you’re wearing a chain, huh? None of his friends wear chains, then it’s like, oh, I see what you’re doing there, you’re trying to be like one of those guys. – [Stevie] Cassie has a chain. It’s very cool. – See, the 90s are back. Cassie’s got one. – Yeah. You know, it’s… – I’m thinking about getting one. – It’s all about the inner beauty for me, I guess. Zweigle’s? – Zweigle’s? – Zweigle’s is a place that has white hot dogs. They’re white hot. Or are they white- – I don’t understand, is it white hot or white hot dogs? – Well they look, look, it’s white. – Alright, we got Aubrey on the line who’s going to tell… You’re from this place, right, where they make these things? – Mythical writer Aubrey. – Which is where? – [VOICE] Rochester, New York. It’s literally, you can only find them in like, Rochester and Buffalo. And then if you go anywhere else, they probably have not heard of them. – What makes it a white hot dog? It just doesn’t, it’s just literally like- – The color of it, Rhett. – It’s just white. – Yeah. Well, it’s actually made from, so like regular hot dogs are made out of, to be honest, I really don’t know, a bunch of different meat. But white hot dogs are pork, beef and veal, but they’re uncured and unsmoked, which is why they’re white. – Oh. And they’re also probably better for you, they don’t have all that cancer stuff in them. – [VOICE] Yeah, I don’t know. – Yeah. I don’t know. Now the hot dog, so you, you ate these growing up there? – [VOICE] Oh yeah, for sure. I did not like red hot dogs, I refused to eat them. I still don’t like them, I think they’re so gross. But yeah, I would only eat white hot dogs. – I think it is very enticing, and they cut it open and they put all the stuff inside of it like this, is that how, is that the presentation that you experienced as a child? – [VOICE] Well, actually they’re called pop opens because when you grill them, they automatically pop open. – Automatic pop. – [VOICE] Yeah so you just- – The way that Josh prepped this one, he sliced it and put the toppings inside. – So it’s like you get a bun. – It’s like it is a bun, I don’t even need this bun. – Now, I wanna acknowledge something. Now, a few, I don’t know how many, a couple of years back, we did an episode where we ate a garbage plate, which is also a Rochester thing, right? And the people of Rochester were upset with us because we got some details of the plate wrong, so much so that they wrote an article in a local Rochester publication. – Aubrey, did you see that? – [VOICE] Yeah, I did, actually, my dad texted me it and was like, did you see this? And I said, no, obviously, I did not see it. And yeah, it was a hard read. – Because you worked on that episode. – [VOICE] I did, yeah. I was the one that literally wrote what was in the garbage plate. And apparently I was very wrong. I don’t know. – Well, they’re sensitive up there. I mean, nothing against you because you’re from there. – Your dad, very sensitive guy, is he not? – [VOICE] They take it very seriously. They take garbage plates very seriously. – Is your dad the type of guy who would like, cry a lot or not cry at all? – [VOICE] No, not at all. – Okay, you’ve never seen your dad cry? – [VOICE] No, actually I don’t think so. – Okay, well, we need to fix that. I bet he was crying when he read that article. I bet he was really disappointed in you. – [VOICE] Well, if you don’t like these hotdogs, you might make him cry. – Okay, listen, I’ve had two bites so far. And let me tell ya, no plans to go to Rochester on the docket right now. – Oh, you don’t like it? – I mean… I’m sorry, I mean, and the funny thing is- – [Stevie] Wait, hold on. Before you say anything else, Aubrey’s dad did mail these to us. You know, took it upon himself to go and get them. – Aubrey’s dad? – If Aubrey’s dad wants to- – Make it happen. – If Aubrey’s dad comes to Los Angeles to visit her. – Smells like tears. – I’ll meet him, I’ll shake his hand, I’ll look him right in the eye. I’ll say, sir, you raised a great daughter. But that’s all I’m gonna say. (laughs) I’m gonna just not talk about hot dog. I’ll just be, and hopefully he won’t remember this moment. – What is it that you don’t like? ‘Cause it’s… – I don’t like the flavor profile of the wiener. – If you grew up on this, you wouldn’t like a normal hot dog ’cause it is totally different. I like- – There’s a spice in there. – I like it, I like it. – You don’t want the people of Rochester to come after you, I get it. I understand, that’s probably the smarter play. I’m just choosing to be honest, you know? I’m just saying. I mean, how many people in Rochester are there? How many people have I just offended? – Rhett and link, here’s the article, ate signature pork dishes across America on YouTube. They made a pig mistake with the garbage plate. The Good Mythical Morning show desecrated the garbage plate, saying the Rochester delicacy is made with sliced ham and Italian sausage. They should have pulled the pork. The garbage plate, traditionally cheeseburgers or hot dogs served on top of home fries and macaroni salad with mustard, onions, meat, hot sauce, and a side of bread was featured on a video titled America’s Craziest Pork Dishes Taste Test, but it was so wrong, Aubrey. – Let me stop you right there, in the article. Here’s the thing. You want us to pull the pork. Rochester, what you don’t understand is that, if we had pulled the pork, you would not even have made the cut. You wouldn’t’ve even been in the episode. No one would’ve ever even heard of you. (people laughing) – Hosts Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal sampled pork dishes and competed by guessing which US cities they were from. Good Mythical Morning has a lot of subscribers and a lot of views, the pork episode already has more than 1.2 million views. – What’s the population of Rochester? – Hold on, go back, I wanna read the last of that article. Cause they throw our sponsor under the bus here. – 206,000 people. They all watched it, six times. – The video was sponsored by the National Pork Board. They need advertising dollars and have mouths to feed, but don’t feed those mouths with ham garbage plates! (people laughing) – I feel like this is unnecessarily harsh. – Josh, you got in on this too, you made it. – [VOICE] Yeah, I stand by every decision I made, and I also stand by our decision to feud with the city of Rochester. Also Babish is from Rochester by the way, so they do have some clue. – I’m trying to, you know, I’m trying to really get this beef going, but Link is backing off ’cause he’s saying he likes the hot dog. – Rhett and Link tasted a dish with Italian sausage and sliced ham buried under home fries, macaroni salad, onions, that dry excuse for Rochester hot sauce and mustard. There was also an inexplicable quarter stick of butter garnish. – [VOICE] I do not recall that quarter stick of butter garnish. – That sounds like a lie. – Well, then they quoted you, Rhett, saying then there’s a big thing of butter. You just put that right on top. – Yeah, okay. Maybe we did that then. But here’s the thing. – This feels like leftovers. I mean, it’s good, but it’s like you had an incredible time last night, and this is what you wake up to in the morning. This is a classic family reunion spread all put together in one thing. That seems like a compliment. – Yeah, take what you can get, Rochester! – Ah, then you said, quote, I would call this a monstrosity. There’s only a few places in America you can do this without shame, and I believe Texas is one of them. – Least I didn’t say New York! – Link loved the plate, calling it a mountain of happiness and guessed it was from Big Sky, Montana. – Well he’s lovable, but… – Producer Stevie Wynn-Levine told them the dish is a garbage plate, made of two meat sides and two non-meat sides. Oh, they quote you, Stevie. – [Stevie] What’d I say? – The dish originated at a restaurant called Nick Tahou’s, when a bunch of college kids- – You probably said that wrong and now they’re gonna turn against you. – Asked for the dish with all the garbage in it. – Oh, I thought you meant me. – And it’s still enjoyed to this day in Rochester, New York. Good Mythical Morning ekes by on a technicality because cringe as you might, an official garbage plate can be made with ham and sausage. – Okay, hey! – The Nick Tahou’s trademark refers to, quote, prepared entrees consisting primarily of one of the following, hot dogs without buns, hamburgers without buns, steak, pork chops, sausage, ham, fish, or eggs and processed potatoes and processed beans. – And a big stick of butter. Hey, it’s all in there! Everything that we did is in there! It was well-researched, you come out so hard. You come out so hard on us, Rochester, and then at the end you went, well, they were kind of right. Yeah, that’s right, we were right. You know what else we’re right about? Your hot dog tastes like trash! – [VOICE] I really liked the hot dogs. – I kinda like it. It’s like a, a cylinder of happiness. I’d go all the way to Big Sky, Montana for that.
