GMMore 1828: We Try A Coconut Opening Kit (Without Instructions)

(animal noises) – Welcome to Good Mythical More. We’re going to try to open these coconuts with a coconut opening kit, but no instructions. – But first we’re going to check our voicemail because we get voicemails and we check them. – [Voice] Hey, Rhett and Link, I’m all jacked up on that there Canadian Dry. Do you smell it on my breath? – Canadian Dry. – It’s Canada Dry, isn’t it? – Yeah, but I think Canadian Dry- – Jacked up on Canadian Dry? – Must be a different thing. – Turns out these are coconuts. – They’re coconuts that have been cleaned. If you could just, I mean I can’t reach into the winner’s circle. So if you could just bring one right here. – [Stevie] Guys, I have some really fun coconut facts as well. If you would like to hear any. They’re just as good as the hints from before. – Yeah, whenever you feel like saying any of them. – [Stevie] Coconut water is the water that comes from a coconut. – Great start. – Wow, that’s good. – I think- – Well first of all, there’s one way you can do it, which is you can just pierce it and just stick a straw in it with one of these. – But let’s examine everything. So I think we’ve got a mat. – That’s what this is. – We’ve got a mat that you put the coconut down on, right? – These are both for scoring the inside and getting the coconut flesh. – I’m interested in what this one does. It makes like little, long straws of coconut meat? And this one makes like a big hunk of coconut meat. – Now this is the most interesting thing, I believe there’s a world in which you could put this on top, and bang this in, and it’ll just cork it completely out. – Really? Oh yeah, ’cause that’s a sharp edge, but then there’s a… – But this right here is the one that is definitely like, I’m gonna go around and take the whole top of the coconut off. – [Stevie] Coconut milk is the emulsion of two fluids, coconut cream and coconut water. – And what is coconut cream? – [Stevie] I don’t have that. – So what I, you’re gonna go with the hacky hacky? ‘Cause if you do that, then I would like to go for the smacky smacky. – This feels interesting though. – It does, doesn’t it? – They both require the mallet. – Choose your, you do the first one. – I mean, we know that this is gonna work. That’s not even that interesting. – This is just to clean a straw. – That’s to clean your pipe that you’re smoking while you’re having your coconut. (banging) – Is that working? – Aw, yeah. – Now what? It’s stuck. You stuck in it. Looks like a duck call. I mean, if that’s it, somebody’s booting up. – Oh, look, look, you do that. And then you stick this in there. Then you pop the weasel. – [Link] Oh, you’re popping the weasel? – [Rhett] Just like that. – I would not have known that there’s that much water in there. – Grab a straw, bro. – [Link] Can you see that, there’s water to the brim of this thing. – [Stevie] I want one! – You want to share? – Well, I want one, too, Stevie. – [Stevie] Yeah. Let’s open two more. There’s a bunch of coconuts. We can each have our own. – Did we do this right? – [Stevie] You did. Well, the, basically you’re supposed to first circular cutty tool thing that you hammered in, I think hammer it a little bit deeper. And then you’re just supposed to be able to use that to lever it out versus using the spikies. – The reason I stopped is because it started cracking on the side. – Gonna bring it into the winner’s circle, which means I gotta give it a bangie bangie. – [Stevie] A coconut is not a nut, but a… say it with me. – Fruit. – Legume. – [Stevie] Drupe, or stone fruit. (banging) – You said go further, huh? (banging) – [Stevie] Okay. I feel like that’s good. That’s good. – I feel like that’s… – [Rhett] You should just be able to poke it out now. – Oh, if I do that… – Well, if you pull it out, it’s so easy to do with this other thing, like if you just take this and now just pop it, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. – Oh yeah. Pop. (banging) – And then the squiggly go out. Uh-oh… – Look at that. – This is why we don’t… – See, I didn’t, it doesn’t go all the way through it. You hear that? Man. – Now squiggly go up. – [Stevie] Okay. – What? Hold on, hold on. I gotta do it one more time. It’s like, it doesn’t wanna… – You gotta go deeper with that thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now you’re in it, now you’re in it. Now you’re popping it. They’re gonna fire you from the resort, ’cause it’s not very pretty, but… – From the resort. – ‘Cause the only place that this happens is resorts, right? – Stevie, this one is yours. – [Stevie] Okay. Thank you. I would love that one. – Oh, it’s so refreshing. – Good gracious. It’s so good. It’s so good. – I gotta get one. – [Stevie] There’s an alternate way to, ’cause you see, you have more tools up there. – Well, what is that thing with the handle? – To just put a straw in. Go straight at it. – Oh really? – I think so. I think it’s just like, come to daddy. – Twist it. Twist. – I think I gotta hammer it. If there’s a hammer, you should hammer it. (banging) – And then twist it in. Oh, I don’t think… Nope. Nope. Oh. Is there a hole in that? – Stick your straw in there. You’re done, friend. – There’s a, give me a straw. Are you telling me that? Why don’t I pull this out? – Hey man, you just got rehired at the resort. (Rhett laughs) Look at you, Daddy, that’s the easy way in. – That is a, is there protein in this? – [Stevie] Mmm. This is delicious. Thank you, Link. – For a man who doesn’t even like, I don’t like cooked coconut in stuff, but I like raw coconut and I love coconut water. – And then look, this is the thing that just slicey dicey. Oh, look at that. And this is, you like raw coconut like that? – [Link] Oh yeah. – [Rhett] Coconut flesh? – [Stevie] The husk of a coconut can actually be burnt to act as a natural mosquito repellent. – Huh. Now I wanna chop one of these in half and then try to try to use one of these to get the flesh out. – You don’t have to do that. I just emptied that one. You just stick it in. And do this. And I’m getting, oh gosh, I got so much flesh. Oh gosh. So much flesh just came out. Whoa, flesh! – Gimme one of those. – Have flesh. Have flesh. – You got a little bit of the edge. – Stevie, would you like some flesh? – [Stevie] I would love some flesh. Thank you. – It’s so slimy. – [Stevie] Every time I ask for something, poor Chase goes up to get it from you and bring it back. – I had some of this flesh on a beach, and it made me so happy. – I’m having trouble getting the rest of this flesh. Maybe if I get the flesh with this. – This is a magical thing. Is there protein in coconut meat? – There’s gotta be. I mean, to some degree. – [Stevie] Let me look that up. – Run that back to Stevie. – You didn’t get as much. – [Stevie] Thank you, Chase. – You didn’t get as much meat. – [Stevie] It’s high in fat and calories. – Oh. – [Stevie] Thank you. – But it’s good fats. – I’m eating a little bit of that brown stuff. – Brown stuff’s not bad. – [Stevie] It’s moderate in carbs and protein. The nutrition facts for one cup of fresh shredded coconut meat are 283 calories and three grams of protein. – I feel like I’m on an island. Like I’m desperately doing this. Yeah. Take that back and do another one. And can I do a ring around the Rosie on the inside? So you take that over. I think whenever I travel to places, I’m gonna insist on this in my rider. Freshly cracked coconut water. – Little off-center. – [Stevie] Are you making that for Chase? – I think I’m gonna keep a cooler in my car, that’s full of these. – Look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look! – You did it. – Almost. – ‘Cause it doesn’t… Oh, now pull it out. ‘Cause that’s the cap, it’s supposed to stay on. But push that back down. – I’m trying, I’m trying. – Notch that back down with another tool. – It’ll come out. – Oh yeah. ‘Cause you want to keep that attached. You know what I’m saying? It’s like a cantine. – Oh Chase, you got a good one. – [Link] And then you just… yeah. – [Stevie] Guys, you know who could really use this coconut tool expertly, probably, because he’s opening coconuts all the time in the kitchen. – Mythical chef Josh? – [Stevie] Yeah. – Can’t be here right now ’cause he’s too busy making Pop Tart cheesecake. Go over to the Mythical Kitchen channel and check that out. Along with everything else. Pop Tart cheesecake. That sounds good, right? – And then look, I’m an expert! Hire me at the resort! – Now I really want to pour that water out. – I need a bartender name. – We need it here. Put that, well we don’t have a container for water. – Barry. I’m Barry the bartender guy. I only do the coconuts though. – Yeah, just bring the whole stack. I’ll take the whole stack. ‘Cause what I’m gonna do is, everybody gets coconut water that wants it. – Well, you should do more. You should do another one like that, then, ’cause that was a super easy way to pour it out. – Well I want to be able to carve the… – Oh yeah. Yeah. You can do that, for sure. But I’m saying if you want to pour shots, you should pour out of that one, ’cause that’d be super easy. – I have to pour out of this one, ’cause I wanna do a scrapey. – [Stevie] Delicious. I’m having the best time back here. – The color is not the most satisfying. Whoops. – You want it to be perfectly clear? – You might wanna, yeah, kinda do. – I want it to feel like it’s something. – That’s how much water is in the coconut, people. – Come and get it. – This is what I wanted to try. – Chase, distribute this please. – That’s what I was very much interested in, was just trying to– – Sorry, Link, I got in your winner’s circle. – Oh yeah. You can’t get in the winner’s circle. – Yeah, you got to get the flesh, it’s all about getting the flesh. – Oh man. This coconut’s not shaped in a way that makes me wanna- – That coconut water is good ain’t it, y’all? It’s good. – Didn’t quite, oh, there we go. There we go, that’s satisfying for only me, ’cause I can see it. And that’s appetizing. Look at that. It’s a magical wooden ball. But these are like some like specialty farm coconuts. You know what I’m saying? Like they’re so big. – [Stevie] I was wondering what the, yeah, ’cause they don’t look like other coconuts. – That’s not like what you find outside somewhere. I mean, I know that they’ve taken the hard husk off to make this easy for us. We’ve got one more whole one, right? – Yeah, man. – Well, I’m gonna stick this thing in here and we can do another round. Oh, this is what this is for. You keep this in there so it doesn’t splash back on you. – Oh. And then you push it down? (banging) – I gotta have a new face because it’s tropical, and people are like listening to music they’re playing like Bob Marley, people are playing volleyball with strangers. I gotta learn how to smile and work at the same time. (banging) – Oh, it’s in there. – And then I just… – Drink a little bit and give the rest to somebody else? – And then hit me with some glasses, I’ll do another round for everybody. Keep playing volleyball. – I’m gonna move this over here so it will be caught. – Gotta get better at that too. Oh, you know what I’m gonna do? Mama didn’t raise no fool. I gotta create a valve. – Smile. There you go. – Welcome to Sandals. (banging) – Okay. Okay. Now it’s just gonna come right out. – And it’ll just go, whoop. – Go on that. You’re dribbling. – [Rhett] I don’t know why that’s happening. – [Link] ‘Cause there’s not a strong lip. You didn’t create a strong lip. – [Rhett] Oh, man, that’s sad. – Coconut P, everybody light up. Okay. – I also, I moonlight at Beaches, which is the Sandals for families. (cheerful music) It’s much more annoying to stay at a Beaches because little kids ruin everything. – All right, so now we’re gonna take a couple drops of that purple food dye and drop it in there and spin it up and see what kind of color we’re at. We’re looking for a nice color match. This is really an art project. Cheesecake to me is an art. All cooking is art, but cooking is also love.
