GMMore 2429: Match The Country To Their Biggest Export

Welcome to “Good Mythical More.” The economics lesson continues. We’re gonna learn some stuff about countries and their biggest exports. I like your, you have a voice too. Yeah, this is my- It might even be better. Economics professor voice. Mine’s more just like a guy who took your class. Where? Jared, where were you yesterday? Why is my name Jared? Why is my name Jared? I didn’t think. Let’s come, Professor, can we come back to this? ‘Cause I need to, I need to give away some money. Okay. Yeah. Give away some money. We, as Mythical, need to give away $1,000 to Special Olympics to aid in their mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. And you can join us in supporting this very good cause at specialolympics.org/donate. Demonstrate courage and experience joy. Yes sir! Bring in the map. Let’s see what this thing is. Oh, it’s not a map. I mean it’s, it’s just a whiteboard. Professor. Where were you yesterday? I missed you in class. My cat. My cat’s having a problem. He’s- You guys both sound like you’re having trouble pooping. I think we both, yeah. My cat is constipated. When you’re interested in economics, you have a stilted delivery. My cat is so constipated and I think I caught it from my cat, because as you taught me earlier in the semester, constipation is a communicable disease. So I’ve got constipation and I thought I timed it right, but I didn’t. I’m sorry, I missed, what did I miss? What did I miss, prof? Nothing. It’s a pass fail. What’s the lesson for today, prof? We’re gonna match countries. We’ve got Honduras, Jamaica, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Australia, Japan, and Dominican Republic. What do these places chiefly export? Is it, what, is the biggest export of all their exports? Or are they the biggest exporter of something? Both. The country’s biggest export. Okay. Let’s get some things out of the way that we know, right? We know that Japan is of all these things, vehicle engines. One of the things that happens in Japan is they manufacture a lot of vehicles over there. And then- On the terraces. A lot of the companies in America like to be able to say “Made in the USA” at least partially. So they’ll get the things that really, really, really need to work made over in Japan and then they’ll make like the body around the engine in America and say “Made in the USA.” Okay, so. Coffee should be- Coffee is gonna be, is that gonna be Jamaica- Madagascar. Honduras. Madagascar is an island. You remember that? Well, Africa is going to probably have- There’s lots of different places. One of places these things that you can mine. Gold, aluminum, or iron ore, right? Dominican Republic. Well, you know what? We know Bangladesh is T-shirts. No doubt about that, right? I mean, you’ve seen a lot of T-shirts that say “Made in Bangladesh.” Good God, right? Tell me where I’m wrong. This isn’t a race, man. This is a “Good Mythical More.” Problem, sorry. Am I being graded? Just take a breath, man. Just take, just be chill. Be chill about it. Okay. You’ve been to Australia. We got nowhere to be. You’ve been to Jamaica. I’ve been to the Dominican Republic. I’ve been to the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic. When did you go to the Dominican Republic? More recently, I believe. I think I went the year after you and you were like, “Don’t stay where I stayed.” And then I stayed where you stayed and then we were both complaining about where we stayed. Hold on. Why did you stay where I stayed? ‘Cause I made, like I came back. The food was, whoo. I came back from that place telling you that the food was not good. The food, yeah. The food wasn’t good. That I ate. We went to one of those resorts where they had like the Italian restaurant. I want to get up. The so-and-so restaurant. And the Italian, and I think I probably told this story before. The Italian restaurant, we ate there the first night and the marinara tasted like cat vomit, or what I would imagine cat vomit would taste like. I want to see the yellow border ’cause it’s pretty. I get it, prof. I get it, man. I’ma move this down. Style matters. That’s why I take your class. Too much white space on it. I take your, one of the reasons I take your class. Can we get a dart board? Prof, if I have to be honest. Instead of a whiteboard, a dart board. Prof, if I have to be honest, one of the reasons I take your class is because of the way you dress. You don’t dress like a normal prof. Like, your shirt’s not tucked in. It’s like a cool shirt. You have a tat, and like- I mean, I could tuck it in half my shirt. Your hair’s cool, man. Like a professor. You’re like a cool prof. This is a professor thing to do. And then there’s like chalk all over this. Half of the time, I can’t even concentrate because of how cool you are. I’ll be honest with you as I just, that’s the only reason I come to office hours, man. Because your office is so cool with all your little trinkets. Man, it’s so cool. Dominican Republic. I think Dominican Republic’s biggest export is Madagascar. Okay, now we’re talking. Australia, okay. Here, let’s do a little work here. It’s coffee. DR, their biggest thing is coffee, right? Because what would it, it could be Honduras. Okay, so hold on, hold on. We’re doing this backwards. I know for a fact that vanilla is gonna be from either Honduras- Madagascar. Vanilla, man. No, no. Madagascar is gonna be- There’s a whole type of vanilla called Madagascar vanilla. Is he right about that? Yeah, man. Madagascar is a mining, they do a lot of mining there, though. Haven’t you ever heard of Madagascar vanilla? No. But I don’t know a lot about vanilla, but I don’t, I mean. Let’s just try it on for size for a second. I’m pretty sure that there’s a, isn’t that what I’m thinking? No, Central American countries are known for- Just answer me this. Their vanilla. What, name types of vanilla. So the most popular type of vanilla that Sharon Mahaffey used to tell our wives to get for the cookie recipe- Yes. Was Mexican vanilla. And that’s why I think. That’s not what I’m thinking. There’s another vanilla and I’m pretty sure it’s Madagascar. You might be right, but I don’t, Prof, I think I’m gonna have to question you here. I think Honduras is probably vanilla. But it could also be coffee. It could be coffee. Honduran coffee. But I think Jamaican coffee. Do you, you’ve been to Jamaica, right? Yeah, man. But I didn’t have the coffee. Honduras could be coffee because it’s, because coffee and vanilla are coming from- isn’t there a lot of vanilla in Jamaica? No, I think, I think in Australia is the iron ore. Is that what you were saying? Well, Australia is definitely one of these three things that are mined. Don’t see Dominican Republic. Iron ore. So we’ve got the- They’re mining gold somewhere. Well, yeah, they are. So then if we do that. You’re right about this. You’re right about this. Don’t know about that. Dominican coffee. Dominican coffee could be something. I really think that Dominican is coffee and then Honduras. I don’t think. You gotta, you cannot put vanilla at Madagascar. I’m drawing a line there. I’m drawing a line there. It’s a type of vanilla that you know. It’s the only type I know. Okay, but why? If it’s not Madagascar. It’s like, when we have ice cream. Ice cream. What’s that type? When you have vanilla ice cream. Madagascar vanilla ice cream. French. French vanilla. French vanilla. But that’s just a type of ice cream. Listen, you may be right, but what you’re saying right now, it’s hard to believe your argument ’cause you’re saying it’s not Madagascar but it’s something else. So why does Madagascar have anything to do with it? Are you saying it’s Madagascarian vanilla? Yes! I eat a lot of vanilla ice cream. The vanilla from Mexico- Vanilla bean. Is famous. So I think we should go with the country that is closest to Mexico for the vanilla. Which is what? Probably, I mean. Honduras. I don’t know which one. I mean, these are islands. Why would it? I think it’s Jamaican coffee. You know about the Jamaican coffee. You know about the Honduran vanilla. Dominican Republic, probably, there’s probably- I don’t know about a Honduran vanilla. There’s probably some, what do you have in your hand? I’ve never had- Everything needs to be on the fricking thing. Australia. Why are you being so intense, man? This is a More. Take a freaking breath, dude. God. I’m being graded. This, my whole- Hey, just, what? This is pass fail. It’s pass fail! Seriously. Wait, what? Don’t care so much. Prof, it’s pass fail! We gotta, this is gonna go down here. How about that? Okay, hold on. Let’s go with one that makes sense. Gold. Australian Gold. Hey, that’s a suntan lotion. They didn’t mine. Australian gold. I put that on my body before. I think it, I think it’s gold in Australia. I mean, after they sent all the prisoners there, everyone else started coming because of the gold. They had a gold rush. I think aluminum is in Madagascar because there’s like lithium and there’s like, there’s interesting metal mines that are in Madagascar, which would mean that there’s iron ore, surprisingly in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic. You’d be surprised. Don’t, don’t. How are you gonna fit iron? I’m keeping the yellow border! But how are you gonna fit? That’s the only thing that’s important to me. Well, do this, then. It’ll be like this. ‘Cause this is like, it’s just like it’s a continent that’s an island. Down here. And then we put the iron ore next to the Dominican Republic. Okay, so. Now hold on. We’re not done, we’re not locked in, ’cause we could be wrong. How many of these, you know what? How many of these do we have right? Whoa, hold. Before, before we figure that out. Look, I think we, I want- Hey, hey- We have to be, listen. Hey. That’s not how academics work. Just slow down your cadence. Listen, you don’t take- You’re stressing me out. You don’t take your exam to your professor and say, “Hey prof, how many do I have right?” And then he is like, “Uh, you got 70 right. Take it back and see which ones you-” That’s not how academics work. We can’t even, we can’t be told how many we have right? We have to get just right on the first try, man. Japan, vehicle engines. Confidence level, 100. 100. Bangladesh, confidence level, T-shirt, 100. 100. Okay, this is when it begins to fall apart. Honduran vanilla. You think it’s Madagascar vanilla? Yes! Obviously. Okay. That’s the only one I care about. Give me your reason again. If you can gimme, if you can gimme a good reason, I’ll, I think I might be on team change it. But right now I haven’t heard a good reason. You know what? I don’t even care enough. I’m right, and when we’re told, you’re gonna apologize. But why? But you haven’t given me a reason. You say it sounds like Madagascar. No, that is not. I’ve given, I’ve given you reason after reason. So Madagascar. So you have purchased something called Madagascar vanilla. No, I’ve eaten vanilla ice cream with Madagascar beans again, and again, and again, and again. Okay, what brand? Any brand. Every brand. Okay. Listen, I don’t have anything to dispute this because I haven’t had this ice cream you speak of, but now we’re gonna get aluminum from Honduras? So who are we? Who are we now? And the coffee is Dominican Republic. Now I can buy that. Because we all know about that. And then Jamaican is ore. Jamaican iron ore? That feels like a stretch to me. Well then, aluminum. That also feels like a stretch. Do anything you want. Stevie, how many do we have right? There was a point in this game in which you were doing really well and I thought you were gonna get them all correct. Was it before I started listening to Link? This is not the point in the game. Okay. All right. So we’re gonna go back to this. All right. We’re gonna go back to aluminum and we’re gonna go back to this. The point in the game that I thought you were gonna get them all correct was I think when you were getting along the most. That’s before we were playing, before we had done half the game. Oh, you’re saying like when we were starting out and you’re like, oh, they’re gonna get this and then we fell apart? No. No. There was a point where you had like a handful correct. And it was your friendship and your respect of one another that led you there. I’ve lost sight of it. Boy, I don’t, oh. Was it when we had Australia, iron ore? And then we were like, okay, gold. Where did they get gold? But coffee was something different. Coffee, what was the first thing we said about coffee? Honduras. Honduras. I can see vanilla being Jamaica or Dominican Republic. Coffee? Right. Coffee, vanilla are in these, these, these countries. And Jamaican gold. I’ve never put that suntan lotion on me. But it does sound believable. Where did you want to put vanilla? That it’s not here? Probably did. Did you buy, when you went to Dominican Republic, did you, did you buy vanilla? I could buy that. The Jamaican gold? I didn’t buy. I paid, I paid for the trip. I wasn’t gonna buy anything else. How we doing? Let’s start with this. Japan? Correct. Correct. Bangladesh, T-shirts. Correct. Right, right, right. If you just tell us who’s coffee, I think we’ll be able to get it from there. You have coffee correct. Oh yes! Okay. Honduras? Okay. Should we go? Is it Madagascar vanilla? Is he right? When your respect for one another was- Well, I don’t respect that answer. Is that what you’re telling me to do? It’s the only one I cared about. I’m, comment section, not telling you to do anything. Well, at one point- Australia is gold. There was a gold rush. Is that right? That’s right? Australian gold. No. But it is an ore, right? Australia is iron ore. Correct. Okay, so we were right. Okay. It’s just these three, man. Correct. We changed it to vanilla and you said it was wrong! No, I didn’t. No, she didn’t. I just wanna, I just wanna let you know something here. This is like a very well-known thing that is so weird that you don’t know, Rhett. Well, hold on. That doesn’t make me feel smart. But he didn’t say it like that. What? He didn’t see it like that. Again, and again, and again. Well, he said he just knew and he had eaten it in multiple ice creams and he likes vanilla. And then we changed. And then when he said that, I changed it. But then you said that we didn’t have that right. No, then you changed it back. Oh. Do not bring me into this. Oh, it’s not your fault. It’s not my fault. I take responsibility for it. I gotta give you some of that Madagascar vanilla. How does one take responsibility for something? I don’t know, man. If you did something, you know, if you were wrong and you now you’re gonna take responsibility for it, how would one do that? I’m gonna get you a little gift of Madagascar vanilla. It’s just two guys being dudes. This is a podcast and a half. It was hot and that was good.
