GMMore 2676: Testing Our Friendship

Welcome to Good Mythical More. We are going to do the friendship test by intercepting balls. These balls are driving me crazy. That are careening towards our face and balls. This is fitting. You know what? Our partner on votelikeabeast. org or com, is it com? Yes. The reason I’m confused is because we’re going to donate $1,000 to vote.org to aid in their mission to build best in class, culturally competent programs, cutting edge voter tools, and high profile partnerships to reach and empower voters across America, especially historically underserved voters of color and underrepresented young voters, please join us in giving at vote.org/donate Come on young people! Come on young people! Get out there and vote! All right, so the true test of friendship is if you know that a ball is hurtling towards your friend, will you catch it? And we are up for the challenge. Who is going to throw balls at us willingly? Regardless of the risk, it poses for her career. – Here at Mythical. – Mikayla. Of course it’s Mikayla. Mikayla, are you an accurate thrower? Pretty much, yeah. I didn’t do any, like, throwing sports, but. Okay, what sports did you do? Dance! Cause that is a sport. Okay. So you threw your limbs around. I did! Dance sport. But I’m a good thrower! Do we have an example, Stevie? Yes. Oh, there it is. Friendship catch test. Okay. Hopefully we’ll get more dynamic coverage than they got. I believe in this. I don’t know, that’s pretty compelling because you don’t see it until the last minute and then all of a sudden, boom, you gots to catch it. Okay, Link. Would you like to catch or be caught? I feel like I really trust you as a thrower. Why are you so close? Should I get further back? I’ll get further back. Maybe. You catch me as a thrower? Trust me as a thrower? Trust me as a catcher? I meant catcher. Okay, I don’t want to hit you. I don’t trust her as a thrower. Well, that’s the point. So where are you throwing first? And I can’t move. I have to just not flinch. This is a soft one. I’m gonna start soft. And what part of the body? I think I’ll do face. Okay. Okay. So I’m aiming for Link’s face. Yeah, Link’s face. Link’s face. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wanted to do this my whole career. Okay. My whole career. The whole time. All right. Okay. Well that wasn’t, it wasn’t going towards my face. Yeah. This is very soft, so. You’re a horrible thrower. She’s a dancer. It’s tough. She’s a dancer. Maybe I should do a harder ball? I’ll do a harder one. Yeah. Okay. I flinched. Okay. I flinched big time. I failed. Alright. Oh, so you didn’t trust me? Yeah, I did. Okay. Rhett’s face. Rhett’s face. Ready? I’m your bud. I wasn’t afraid. I’m not afraid that you’re not going to catch it. I’m afraid that you’re going to hit me with your hand in the process of catching. Okay. I’ll do chest area. It’s hard not to flinch, man. This thing is nice, dude. That is a fun ball. It’s hard not to flinch. Okay, let’s see what else we got. Oh, this has got a hard core in it. Okay. Now, I’ll go for crotch. Crotch. She’s going for crotch. Link’s crotch. I don’t want to look too long. Okay. You don’t want to look too long. Did you flinch? He moved a little bit. I think I did a little bit. Do you want to see if Mikayla can catch for you? Because I feel pretty confident in my ability to hit exactly where I want to. So what are we testing? This is a legit test, I guess. Alright. Would I protect my boss? Where are you going? Your boss’s balls. Your boss’s balls. You gotta protect your boss’s balls, Mikayla. Okay, you don’t have to talk about it. Hey, Mikayla, he’s gonna be aiming at your boss’s balls. Okay, you ready? Ready? Catch it now. Catch it! You didn’t try! Also that was way too high. Where was your hand? It was here! It was way too high. It was. It was way too high. It was high. I did go to. Here we go, here we go. Okay, okay. Come on, Mikayla. What in the world? She’s a dancer! You weren’t in the ball area, though. Is that where you’re going for? You don’t need to be. That one actually hurt my bread basket. Okay, I’m gonna slow it down a little bit. Yeah, get a little closer to me. Hold on, that one actually made me nauseous. – I’m actually experiencing. – Okay, I’m slowing it down a little bit, and it’s gonna hit your balls, okay? Ready? Okay, that was definitely going in. Pushed it away. Going in. We got it. Alright, now we gotta switch. Okay. Oh, God. That’s right. Oh, God. No. He wants to protect you. Your boss is gonna protect your balls! Okay, okay. Mikayla, where would you like me to throw this? At your face? Face is fine. Face? Yeah. Please, please catch. I tried. Dang it. That was you. It was you, if she didn’t move. My shoulder. It would’ve hit my face if I didn’t move. No. Let me throw. Let’s go to these kinds of balls. All right. These kinds of balls if they do hit you in the face or the balls. It won’t be too bad. It won’t hurt. Yeah. Don’t hit her with the, with your actual hand Stand still. Coming at the face. Don’t lean forward. Coming at the face. That was good, that was good, that was good. Okay. Okay. You are a bit close for as fast as you’re throw. Yeah. I was a little bit farther. Okay. Okay. Face again. You’re going to catch it? Blocking is cool, but catching is cooler. I’m trying to catch it. Face. Did I hit you? Yeah. Alright, we’ll switch. – Okay. – Okay. I mean, I couldn’t catch it, so I know you can’t catch it. Face or balls? Balls. Hit my hand, man. If it would’ve hit my balls. Okay. It would’ve bounced twice as far. This is gonna be rapid fire. Like, multiple at a time? One, two, and then the third one’s heavier. Okay. But they’re all balls. We have to change it so it’s not catching though. All balls. All balls. I can barely catch one. Okay. Knee! Balls! That didn’t look like a dance move. Yeah, it hurt my arm for sure. Alright, go back to tossing. Okay. Okay. Okay. So we’re gonna stand right beside each other. Okay. And then you’re gonna, I’m gonna catch in front of you and then you’re gonna catch in front of me. So like, have a bunch of balls. Okay. Where did the soft ones go? Okay, here’s another one. Okay, so I have two. So catch, you catch for me first? With my left hand. That’s good, you’re all over that. That’s like baseball. Okay, I’m going for the face. Of Link? Of Link, first. Okay, ready? Hasn’t, hasn’t come down yet. Do we have anyone that was on the baseball team? Go for Rhett’s, go for Rhett’s bulge. Bulge. Okay. Alright. Ready? They’re higher than you think. Okay. That was in the area, the general area. That was in the pubic area. Okay. Thank you. Pube. Okay. Go for my pubic area. Why you don’t, don’t give so much commentary. I’m trying to make her uncomfortable. So. I’m very uncomfortable by this whole situation. Don’t worry about it. No, you’re not. I am. Okay. Crotch. You can’t catch. – Those are slippery. – You’re throwing harder than I was. I think we got to get all the way back here. Why don’t we just sit down and talk about times we’ve been hit in the balls? Okay. All right. How about i’m gonna hit you in the face from here and you can’t, you can’t move. Okay. That was all over it. He almost got you. Dang, Mikayla. I can’t do that again. I hit his face every time. That would have hurt, man. Come on, come on, come on, come on. Just let it hit you. No, no, no, I have glasses on. Just let it hit you. Just let it hit you. Just let it hit you. I’m so ready. Catch it in your hood. Catch it and you hide in your hood. I actually want to see this. I don’t want to catch it. You almost got it. Okay. Okay. Let’s, let’s tell some, let’s tell some. Do one of your dances, Mikayla. Yeah, let’s do that. Yeah. You do it. You do like you’re, you’re on the dance team for, in high school? College? High school. Okay. Just do your senior thesis. Let’s see your senior project and then we’re going to tell ball stories after that. This feels like one of those situations where you’re like at home with your parents, they’re like, do a little dance for us! Dance for us! Do one of your dances! We’re having your uncle over! Yeah. That’s exactly what it feels like my creepy uncles. Okay, we won’t make you do that. Can I join y’all? This is what she’s done. Yes. If you’ve been hit in the ball, sure. Okay. One time I got hit in the balls, I’ve been hit in the face more than I’ve been hit in the balls. – Okay, let’s. – You need a, you need a. Yeah I think we should. I think Damien’s good. Somebody get Mikayla a chair. You want this? Oh here it is, here it is, here it is, here it is. I played on the soccer team in 8th grade. The coach told me to stop flinching when the person in front of you is kicking the ball. He pulled me to the sideline and told me, and I went right back out there, and I ran towards this guy, and he had the ball, and he kicked it, and he hit me, and he kicked it right in my face, and I fell flat on my back, like immediately after he said, don’t, stop flinching! You didn’t flinch, did you? I didn’t flinch, I was like, I’m not gonna, I was just like, just hit me in the face and just laid me out. Wait, where were you? That hurts so bad. I wasn’t on the soccer team. Yeah, you were, you were the goalie, it was 8th grade. Oh, 8th grade, I was the goalie. So y’all were friends. You didn’t do the test back then? It didn’t work? The goalie doesn’t have to reach around the. I mean, but you gotta play some defense, you know? I wasn’t a defender, I was a wingman. I think I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again. Do you know how many, Link, do you remember? Zero. No. I can’t remember the exact number. Do you know how many goals? Three. Were scored on Rhett McLaughlin, the goalie of the Buies Creek Demons in 8th grade? This is such a satisfying. It was all in one game, Link. It was when we played the 9th grade team from Benson. There was one. West Lee, or something like that. They scored two goals, we lost. It wasn’t Benson, Lee County. Yeah. East Lee. East Lee. Had one more grade. – Like their soccer. – They had 9th graders. Their soccer team went to 9th grade. And we could never beat them. I couldn’t catch those balls. They were one year older. That was the only time anyone scored? Wow. What? I don’t know why, why did they have an extra grade in middle school? I don’t know. Y’all were in the same state and everything? – Yeah. – It was like one county over. Yeah, the ninth graders, I couldn’t catch those ninth grade balls no matter how much. They put the ninth graders with the, with the eighth graders. But do you think it’s because the team was good and there, not many balls got to you? Or, or did you, were you the strongest player on that team via catching balls? I was very big, Stevie. Oh, bless you. I was already 6’4 in eighth grade. Oh my goodness. And so. But were you nimble? – Were you quick? – He was brittle. I will say that. Have you seen my? Look, I mean, like, you can. The biggest thing on him were his goalie gloves. You don’t even know where my hands are gonna, look at that. That’s a big man moving his hands real fast. Mikayla is not impressed. – My dad. – A little bit. So, we, we, we had, Campbell University was in town. You remember this summer? My dad was like, you gotta get ready for fall season. And I’m getting Peter Moore, the Campbell University goalie. This is Division I soccer. He’s gonna do a clinic, just you and him. And I remember my dad would drive me out there, and somehow my dad talked a Division I college goalkeeper into just, I guess he paid him. Well, he was an assistant dean. Of the law school. Well, yeah, but he threw his weight around. It was inappropriate. To do one on one training with me. And Peter Moore would go out there and he’s like, The first thing you have to do, is you can’t be afraid. You can’t be afraid of the ball, you can’t be afraid of the players, and you can’t be afraid of the ground. And then he started beating you to a pulp. And so he would throw a ball, roll a ball to the left and right. And he would make me dive onto the ground and land on the ground. And he was like. Oh yeah. And I would just be hurting real bad. And he was like, you can’t be scared of being hurt. He talked like this. He did? That’s what I remember. Pretty impressive. I mean, the goalies did take a whooping. Yeah, they did. Because you would lay out, they would lay out, you know, and then just land. Yeah. They had to get that ball. Sacrifice. – Yeah. – Sacrifice their bodies. Not unlike dancers, in a lot of ways. – Right. – Which is also a sport. Right. Yeah. That’s great sacrifice on the line. You can’t be afraid of the ground when you’re a dancer. Not at all. There’s a lot of falling, a lot of tripping. Over everything. Sometimes you get on the ground as part of the dance. Yeah, the ground is part of the dance, part of the choreography sometimes. Usually. How low did you go? It’s usually under the feet? On the ground. Like, there’s like floor movement. Mikayla, how do you feel about the over sexualization of dance in America amongst the young dancers? Yeah, that’s a good question for Mikayla to answer. In terms of what? Because I feel like it’s actually less over sexualized because TikTok has like, changed it. It’s made it about like, signals that would happen on a tarmac. Very much so! Very airline, plane go over here dancing. So TikTok is contributing to the under sexualization of dance. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The asexualization of dancing. And that’s a good thing? That’s gonna be my senior thesis. I don’t think of dance as a sexual thing, cause it’s always been just like. This is getting very podcasty. Catch Ear Biscuits on wherever you get your podcasts. Well, if you would just stand up and do one of your dances, we could tell you how sexual it is. I don’t think I want that to happen. Exactly. I’m proving my point. Here’s what I’m going to do. And cut. You have said that you wouldn’t mind if your character Dustin Henderson died. I would not mind. What’s your ideal death though? How do you want to go out? I’ve got this. I’ve pitched it.
