GMMore 2777: Who Can Stroke Clay The Longest?

Welcome to Good Mythical More. We’re gonna be, uh, making pottery handles. Who can make the longest handle? Uh, there’s gonna be a lot of stroking. I think we’re gonna need to put a warning, which I’m gonna say right now. Stroking warning. Not a stroke warning. Right, that’s a different thing. Um, yeah. But first, a little secret handshake. We’re gonna get, it’s gonna be a wet secret handshake. Get your hand. Oh, your left? Left hand? I don’t know why. Well I did that cus my. Why’s your hand so wet? It’s a secret. Alright, alright. Oh, God! We’re gonna, we’re gonna, We’re gonna make handles, and then, um, we’re gonna measure them to see who can make the longest handle. And we watched a very quick video. This seemed easy. And, uh, we did it. You basically, you have to work the handle for a while in order to get it to be the right thing. But you want to make one end of your big thing. Cylinder. You want to make it into like a carrot. So like. Now when we say handle, um. Like a mug? Is that what, like what is it? What is a handle too? Like what is like a pot like this? Oh, oh, oh, okay. Like this. A larg–, but large handle or like a, yeah, okay. It’s like, see, this thing is about that long. It’s exactly that long, actually. And then think about if you make one that long or that long, that’s what we’re gonna do. It could be for a smaller thing, and it’s just a really wide handle. I mean like a handle that goes out like that. I don’t know a lot about pottery, but the first thing you do is you make a carrot. Which I’ve kind of made, kind of made a carrot here. I mean it feels right. Yep, and then what you do is, you wet your hand, and then you, you squeeze it and stroke it. Because you don’t want to pull it too hard. You just want to, I mean this is exactly what you’re supposed to be doing, I’m just telling you. You just want to, you want to, you’re, you’re pulling and stroking but stretching at the same time. Mine’s got rivulets in the back. Get rid of those. I don’t want it to look like my handle’s got veins. This feels so nice. Look how smooth mine is already. Can I? No, don’t touch it! I’m proud of it. Let me just feel it. No, no, no. You can touch mine later. When I’m done with it. Okay, and then, you want to keep, you just want to keep. It’s starting to hurt my arm a little bit. I know when we need to. Put that, put that elbow down. Just keep on stroking it out, making it longer. This is exactly how you’re supposed to do it. There’s no shame in this. So, like, if you are doing this in your pottery class, and you get the temptation to start snickering, because you feel that it’s funny and it might remind you of something else, we want you to resist that. Now, snickering is a different pottery technique. Yeah, right. That’s when you’re creating, like, a well, a veiny looking log. Mm hmm. That’s what a snickering, snickering makes a snickers. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right? And a Snicker is a veiny log. What my friend means is that, uh, a Snickers bar has a veiny appearance to it. A lot of people don’t know that. Ooh, I almost got a little bit thin right there. I almost pressed a little bit too hard. I’m gonna tell you right now that you, you’re going a little, you’re going hard now. You think I’m going too hard? You think I’m going too hard? Rotate it around and show him that. Oh, crap! Show him that. That right there is a compromise. Well, what happened there? I don’t think I have any of that in mine. You’re not, you’re not going. Well, I’m sealing it now. You’re going, you’re going too– I’m sealing it! Aggressive. I feel like, like, you know, in your older age, this could be something. You know how George, George W. has his painting. Yeah, yeah. You can just become handle boys. Stevie, you’re going to come over and check on us. Well, I was going to say. Knock on the door. I didn’t want to. Okay, boys. I’m coming to check on you. I didn’t want to get into pottery. We’re fine, Stevie. Come on in if you need to. You know what we’re up to. Because Seth Rogen is already into it. Yeah, well, not handle pulling. We can be, we can make all Seth’s handles. You know, I don’t want to compete with Seth Rogen. He’s already so good at it. He’s got, like, the different finishes and stuff. But, does he need a couple of handle boys? You know, we can just be at Seth’s house in the back. We met him. Remember that? He’s like, oh, you guys are, oh, you guys are cool. Is that what he said? Well, he said, oh, you guys are, that’s how you remember. You guys are neat. . Well, he, you guys are, you guys are something, is what he said. He, well, I, I remember it as this. He, you, he saw me. He saw you. I saw him. Well, you went up to him, and he was like, oh. And then he saw me. I know you. And then when he saw me and you together, he was like, oh, I know you guys, but it wasn’t, you guys are cool. Is that what you heard? No. He said, you guys. Oh, I know what he said. He said, oh, you guys are great. You guys are great. I’m Seth Rogen. I hope he doesn’t watch this, because I don’t think he talks like that. Seth, if you’re watching, just know, if I’m in your backyard pulling handles for you, I’m not gonna make fun of the way you talk. I wasn’t making fun, an impression is not necessarily making fun. Well, it just seemed like it was a little over the top. Mine’s starting to curl, and mine is getting, yours is too thick at the bottom. Yeah, I’ve been told that. Mine, mine, mine is getting real thin down there. I gotta, I gotta do some more work to get this part. Oh God, do you hear that noise? Sorry, Seth. Sorry, Seth, I don’t It’s just a handle. It’s just a handle. I’m gonna have to I’m gonna have to engage my. Oh, yeah. I’m gonna have to stand and engage my You know what? I need a younger boy to hold it up here. It could be anybody. I’m just saying I need a young, strong man to hold it. Lucas, come on. Look you, you have experience with ceramics. Yeah, yeah. Hey, you’re a young, strong man. Get out here. Could you hold it up here? I haven’t been called a young strong man in a couple days. You hold it up here, but you know, see, now I can go double hand. But, oh, what? That’s great. Oh, hold mine too there, yeah. You guys both go. Okay, because you do this, you do this in your own time, right? Oh, you bet. I do. Just not with clay. What? What’s that, what’s that supposed to mean? Were we beating around the bush? Everybody knows what this looks like. Let’s, let’s, oh don’t let go! Don’t let go! Put your hand further over my work. This is actually pretty hard to hold. I know. Someone’s gonna have to take over for us. We need a younger boy. We need a younger boy. Oh, look at him walking over here. Look at the younger boy. Here, you do Link. There you go. Hold it out there, Damien. I love my job. Damien, use both hands. Yep, both hands, Damien. How’s it going? Mine just got a lot longer. Did you like lunch? Sorry, Seth. I’m a fan. I know your faces aren’t on camera, but they can still hear you talk. Oh, okay. Sorry. Alright. You’re just so smooth. Y’all are both wearing black. Y’all are like roadies. Thanks, Link. Yours is really good. Mine’s not smooth. I’m doing what feels good, honestly. I pressed Well, they said It was just like They were like. Your delts are gonna be burning. It’s a competition to see which ones can be the longest. Not the coolest. Well, it’s still gotta be functional, right? I’m gonna start smoothing it out. Don’t worry about me. I’ve got the touch. You really do. I mean, it’s looking great. Yeah. It’s like you, you don’t really want to think you’re doing anything. Oh, yeah. Do you ever, uh, milked a cow? Yeah, I milked one right into my mouth one time. Yeah, I’ve milked one. I saw a Rhett do it, and then I had to get a, I had to get in on that. Yeah. Whew. I mean, my, my shoulders are tired. . I know. Oh yeah. What are you doing after work today? Um, oh God. Therapy. Walk it forward. Yeah. That’s good. Send us the bill. Do we have anybody younger? Anybody stronger? Anybody younger or stronger? Howard. Howard? Anybody shorter? No, he doesn’t. He’s shaking his head. Okay, I got a weak point on mine. I’m telling you right now. I got a weak point. Seth, I don’t know what to do. I think you might have to, I think you gotta clip it off and keep going. But I think I’m gonna have to come up here and grab a reinforcement. I’m moving on to the next part, which is where you take your thumb. Yeah, that’s right. And you start to push in. I’m gonna flatten it out. Is this gonna help if I just come around like this? Not really. No, I mean, one of the points of doing it like this is, yeah, there you go. No, Seth, I’m sorry. Well, here’s my first one. It’s okay, guys. Oh, I’m gonna make you listen. Okay, there’s my first one. We’ll measure that later. Look, it scared me. Oh, my shoulders hurt so bad. Rhett, it’s okay, you’re great. Hey, now you’re getting good. Now you’re great, Rhett. That’s good, that’s good, that’s good. Okay. There you go. Okay. Okay. I love you, Rhett. Okay. I love you, Rhett. I’ll be right back with you in just a moment. It’ll be just as long as yours in just a moment. You gotta wet your hands more. You just gotta give me a second. Oh my god. Yeah, this is killing y’all, isn’t it? That’s tough. I gotta go to the Orange Theory this week. Orange Theory. Not a sponsor. Oh, you know, I think, I just, sometimes I grip too hard. You gotta switch. Yeah, you gotta, it’s all about keeping it wet. It’s the smoothness, yeah. You gotta keep it wet and you gotta trust the process. And then, just forget yourself. Your parents ever watch this show? And make sure the door’s locked. Yeah, I put a sock on it. The boys are having a field day with this one. Oh, I’ve got another problem. Hey, I’m, I’m gonna, I’m pitching that one off. Dang. Sorry. Okay. All right. Link’s got you whipped right now. So, well, hold on, but he hadn’t made a handle yet. He hadn’t, I mean, it’s, I got two handles over here. Hey, Rhett, every second, I’m making the handle. Your two fisted approach might be a little aggressive. Do you think that’s what it is? Is the gravity a legit concept? No, definitely not. Like technique. Oh, gravity’s real. Gravity’s real. Come on, baby. Rhett, maybe try from the side. Have you ever done it, Katrina? Try from the side. Katrina never done it. What do you mean? Like this? Yeah. Yeah. No, you can’t see me. It’s starting to look like it has a face on the front. It does. Lucas gave it a face. Oh, you did? It looks like Easter Island. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thanks, man. We’ve been studying it, me and Lucas. I’d love to go there. I’ve always meant to. It’d be a good MSOC bit, right, guys? That’s not what we call it. Lucas goes to Easter Island. So it’s total amount of handle length, right? Are you okay with us knocking you out before we send you there? Well, I mean, elaborate a little bit on that. Like B. A. Baracus. Yeah. Like, you will be unconscious. Oh, yeah. Until you arrive. So I won’t know where I am, and there’s giant Right, you’re definitely Stone men, I guess. We will definitely be sending you to Easter Island. But it’ll be Easter Island. Oh, okay. When you come to, you’ll definitely be in Easter Island. The way you’re saying that, I mean I’m smelling an MSOC bit, guys. Buy the tickets. He’s talking about Mythical Society. Yeah, they know what that is. Mythical Society. I don’t even know what O. C. stands for. Uh, it’s the S. O. C. is the first three letters of society. Oh. It’s like how I. D. stands for identification. Right. No, it’s not because I. D. E. No, we’re okay, Howard. We’re actually enjoying it by now. I’ve disassociated. Yeah. What’s Howard got? How much? Got a good apple box. I lost that. You know what? That’s, I lost that. I didn’t need that. You’re switching way less, man. This is a, this is way too thick though. Mine’s. Mine’s getting, mine’s getting a little too thin again. Oh, sorry, Seth. Sorry. Sorry, Seth. Sorry. Hopefully you’re not. Hopefully you’re not wearing headphones, Seth. You guys are great. He has some more. Oh! What, Damien! Damien! Hold on, you gonna blame it on Damien? That’s pretty long though. See who’s just longer. No, but you didn’t thin that out. Of the ones that already been made. Mine’s longer. It’s like a stalactite. Yours is ugly. Yeah, but mine’s longer. It’s a competition about who gets the longest. It doesn’t matter how you run the mile. It matters how fast you run the mile. All right, well, now I gotta make up some time. Oh, now he’s double fishing it. Wow. It’s all over for him here. This is fun. Don’t do that. What? Why’s he looking up? I’m not looking up. He doesn’t like to make eye contact. Open his eyes. Why’s his eyes closed? I don’t need my eyes. You might. Yeah. You were doing better with your last one. We can definitely do this in pitch blackness. Seth doesn’t even need to turn the lights on in the backyard. We’ll just be out there all night. I mean, I’m already this long again. Look at that. This is great. This is good for the delts. Yeah, it’s burning. What’s good for the delts is good for the gunder. Switch. Switch it. Okay. You’d do good in orange. Yeah, leave it in the water. Yeah, alright. Should we go together? Yeah, yeah. Get those, uh. Ah! I’m bored now! That’s, that’s the thing with this. I was re–, I, It’s like bowling. I was really good at the start. Then my fingers start to hurt, and I start to think about the the snack bar, and. This is an interesting way to just make it longer by just focusing up here. Yeah, that’s what I’m doing now too. Just pull it. The only problem is I’m running into a chin on my Easter Island. There he is. Don’t kill me. Man up here. Look how long it’s getting. Look at that. Bless you. I think she’s staving off laughter. That’s what I thought. So funny. And then I realized she was just sneezing. Yep. I was like, yeah, wasn’t that funny Katrina? Biggest disappointment for an aspiring comedian. Mistaking sneezes for laughter. Look how long this is! That’s what we are. Aspiring comedians. We’re off camera. Don’t do that. You don’t like that sound? Oh, watch out, don’t get any on the, you’re splashing quite a bit, Link, and it’s going on to the microphone. Remember the one thing that Lucas said before we started? Don’t make him stroke it? Yeah, after that. He said, he said, don’t get it on the microphone. And don’t ask me to stroke it. Okay. I’m gonna let it, I’m gonna let it rest for a second. Whew! By it, I mean me. Man, this is, this is, they usually don’t make them this long. No, they don’t. There’s a big, big pot that’s going on. Both of my kids, well I have three, but uh, Both of my kids took ceramics in high school. Okay, which both? The older ones. How old’s your oldest? Well, that’s not where this is going, Damien. Hey, Damien, that was a little too quick. You’re a little too quick with that one. She’s 22, Damien. How old are you? 22. Okay. That wasn’t what I was asking, though. Kinda sounded like what you were asking. I don’t like the way you said 22. I was just trying to put a comparison of what I’m doing right now. You know, if, let’s just say you and my daughter hit it off. No. And there was a future together. No, I’m in a relationship. No, Damien. You started this, let me finish it. Imagine, imagine years down the road when you have to tell the story of how your relationship started. And this is it. Oh, okay. Just imagine that. Yeah. I mean, look at this! I wouldn’t be, I wouldn’t be, I wouldn’t be mad if you dated my daughter. Okay, alright. I think you’re great, Damien. But you can’t work here. Okay. Look at that! Link, I mean, we gotta measure. Where’s the measuring tape? Right here, homie. I mean, that’s pretty easy. I mean, just how many inches is that? You go from the base. That’s right. You beat me by seven inches. Look at that. And I’m gonna pinch it off at the top. But I think I can make mine longer. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Oh! I think I still got you beat. And then, we just need a pot. Right. And we’re gonna put it right on there. We’re gonna hold it like that. And then, uh, yeah, then you put it in the oven. Okay. That was gross. It’s the last day of our spring saving sale at mythical. com. Check it out while you can.
