What kind of weird things
does our crew collect?
Welcome to Good Mythical More.
I'm a fan of collecting, and I
get it, but it can get weird.
And our crew, I like our crew to get weird.
So crew, come on and get
in here one at a time.
Lucas, I guess you're first in the line.
We got a whole line of
crew members over here.
They're gonna share their
weird collections with us.
I don't think it's weird, my collection.
They told me that all of
them were gonna be weird.
No.
Um, so this is my collection of
American-made pocket knives and other knives.
Ah.
Um, so this has been...
This is about half of it.
I also brought my little,
my little wallet pack too.
What's this?
Um, so that's a knife.
And that is a sharp one.
I bet it's sharp.
Yeah, I bet it is.
This one might look kind of familiar.
But that's all you gotta say about it?
From an episode that we, we all did together.
Yeah, yeah, you're the knife guy.
I'm the knife guy.
Um, but h- can you put that down?
What's so s- what, what makes it special?
You poured out the, the boring ones first.
Okay.
So what makes it special is, is the
memories I, I gain by cutting things.
I'm gonna write about this
in my diary real quick.
Yeah, write about it in your diary.
Um- The memories you make by cutting things.
Yeah, I like to cut stuff.
So like I said, these are
all American-made brands.
That's what I really do like.
I collect, uh, knives in
this particular color way.
Like... Oh.
Which is called, uh, a G10, which is the
scale material, and it, when it comes
naturally un- unpolished, it... Oh my God.
It, um, yeah.
Yeah, I can see right through that one.
Jesus Christ.
Uh, yeah, so I mean, that, and then
they all have different lock mechanisms.
They're all made from different blades.
That was my most recent buy I got for
celebrating my, the knife episode that we
made together, and there, there wasn't that
much blood, so I bought that for myself.
You- Um, there, this is a, a,
a local guy, a friend of mine
that I made on, on the internet.
I just like th- th- a lot of these things are
made, uh, in, in America, and I like that for
some reason, that I can't totally explain.
So how many different- This is a
long one ... so the, so the coloring
is standardized across brands.
No.
These are not all the same brand.
These are not all the same brand,
but what a lot of these do have
are, uh, you know... Like this one
in particular, I put this together.
I bought this knife, I bought
these scales separately, I bought
this pocket clip separately.
I got a back spacer for it.
So this is sort of a customized,
uh- Wow ... from bottom to top.
You put, you, you customized it?
Yeah.
This is like Build-A-Bear, but knives.
Yeah, but it's knives.
Yeah.
So it, it did, uh- sharper.
Who in your life was really into knives?
Uh, nobody was.
Oh.
Well, I grew up in, in New York where it's,
it's very illegal to carry pocket knives,
and then when I came to, uh, California, I
found out that y'all's law is way chiller.
Like, you encourage knives.
You can't carry a knife in New York State?
You know, if you get st- if you get stopped
with a knife, uh, um, over three inches,
which is about three, three fingers,
you, you can be, you can be put away.
I'm gonna give you this one because
I don't want him to play with this.
This is called an OTF.
So you just press that.
Oh, the... And that comes out.
Oh.
I'm not giving you that one.
So, uh- Yeah, that's the coolest thing ever.
Hold on.
It goes, it goes back in, too.
Where do you get one of these?
Uh, well, that's illegal in California.
But, um, so I can't really
tell you, but I got a guy.
I'll, I'll hook you up with it.
Okay.
Yeah.
It might be worth it.
The, the prop blades work like that.
Yeah, but not like- You just, here, like,
demonstrate, Rhett ... not, not like that.
That'll- You push it and it goes back
into the blade- You push it and it goes
back- ... and it looks like you get
stabbed ... that's not a prop blade.
I cannot... I, I wanna
make that really clear.
Don't do that.
That's incredible.
I just really want to touch it.
Yeah.
No, don't let him touch it.
Don't let him touch it.
Don't let him touch it.
Um, yeah.
And then some of these are, you know-
How much, how much do these run you?
Are these, like, a $60, $600?
That's funny.
Um, no, I- So the one that you just picked
up, this guy I just got, uh, for $200.
Shoo.
So the most expensive knife here is this
bad boy made by a, a, a California builder.
Uh, this was $500.
What?
Yeah.
It's, it's got amber- It's MagnaCut
steel ... and dinosaur fossils in it.
Yeah, it's, it's, uh, that's
a material called Ultem.
It's a kind of plastic
they use for, for handles.
Um, and, uh, yeah, that- Full tang
that's my favorite.
That's full tang, baby.
Full tang.
Yeah.
I would expect no less.
We're gonna give you an A, A. A. Oh, really?
Yeah, we're gonna give you an A. Cool.
Is there a better score than that?
A+.
Sick.
So you just sit... Do you whittle?
No, I whittle.
Look like a little whittle to you?
Um, no, I just carry them every day.
I use them every single day.
I, you know, a, a common sound- Yeah, yeah
... on this set is me, uh- Yeah ... snapping
a knife into somebody's face accidentally.
So that's, that's kinda, everybody knows it.
Well, thank you for sharing.
Yeah.
I'm gonna go.
Can I get... T- tell them that I
gave you a little treat yesterday.
Oh.
Oh.
You gave me a little treat?
Remember?
What?
What'd you do?
Remember?
I made your day yesterday by asking
you to help me with something.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
Oh, this is such a fun story, you guys.
I love this.
Seems like he really remembered it.
Um, yeah, it, uh- Made an impression
on Lucas ... he needed a, a, a, a belt
to be shorter than it was, so I cut it.
Get out of here.
That might've taken you to A+.
I really thought he was
g- come on in, Lauren.
May I respectfully ask that you
move your waters off to the side?
Oh.
This is paper, and it's very old.
Nothing in my water.
Don't... Oh, okay.
Okay.
Wow, okay.
So.
Oh, you don't even want a drip.
I understand now.
Old paper?
Newspaper, because tangible
media is important.
Can I?
Yes, you may.
Uh, so- President TBA.
TBD.
Wow.
I thought it said TBA.
Yes, November 10th, tw- uh, 2000.
We didn't know who the president was.
We didn't know who the
president was gonna be.
The New York Times.
Hanging chads and whatnot.
Yeah, yeah.
2015, Pluto's portrait.
Yeah.
So, um- Wow.
So you save significant y- uh, newspapers.
I do, yeah.
I've been doing it since I was a kid.
I don't, I could not tell you why I started.
I just... This is the oldest one.
This must have just been my dad saving it,
because it's about the Pacers, and it's not
about them winning anything in particular.
It's just about them having
a really nice season.
It's like, "Oh, this might be the
best Pacers team ever." It's got
Reggie Miller, so- Yeah ... I mean.
Uh-huh.
2012. Yeah.
So do you have subscriptions, or do
you pick these up after the fact?
I pick them up individually.
Like, if something happens and I know
it's, you know, a big day or something.
Where do you store these, and how?
Um, in, probably not incorrectly, I'm sure
there's an acid free paper environment they
should be in, but I store it in a big bucket.
Wow.
And do you, where do you go to get these?
9/11s.
Where do you go?
Um, like currently for now,
like 7-Eleven sells newspapers.
But back in the day, you
know, grocery- Did you...
Well, this is Indianapolis.
Were you, um, were you
there for 9/11 or something?
In Indianapolis?
Yes, I was.
Okay.
Wow, you were there- Shut down
completely ... when the planes.
A lot of tra- You know what?
The news is a lot ti- a lot of times tragic.
It's sad.
Yeah, no, this isn't the most exciting
or- You, yeah, I mean, that's-
uplifting ... but hold on,
but how about them Pacers?
Uh, yeah.
This is, this is why bad news sells so
much, 'cause it's like the best we can come
with, come up with is best Pacers team ever?
It's important to remember things that
happened, and- Well, every time- Yep ... the
local news... Have you, you've seen this,
like there's always some local news anchor
who gets a little bug in their butt, and
is like, "You know what I'm gonna do?
I'm gonna have a segment that's
just good news," and it never lasts.
Nope.
They're like, "I'm gonna do-" Just
like you sitting in here, Lauren.
This is a highlight- What?
... of something great that's
happening in the community.
You know, and then John Krasinski
did that good news show during the
pandemic, and then he just sold it.
Which was bad news.
Yep, yep.
Yeah.
I mean, you know?
Yep, yep.
This- It never lasts.
We're happy for you.
This is cool.
Thank you.
What grade do I get?
Uh, well, because it's a little
bit dark, I'm gonna give you a B+.
Fair.
But it is very academic.
Thank you.
Yeah.
So I think you get college credit.
Nice.
All right.
Oh, we know what's about to happen.
All right, Nadia.
I know you talked about this a few weeks ago.
I did, I did.
And we were hoping it was all a big joke.
But apparently- Unfortunately,
unfortunately it i- it isn't.
Just put, put the, um- The full suitcase?
Put your suitcase on the table.
So I have to preface this by- Can I help you?
Yeah, please.
I have to preface this.
This is not the full collection.
This is maybe half.
Maybe.
Um, the other half resides back
home in Tennessee with my father.
She has two suitcases.
I have two suitcases.
Um, so yeah, this is my
Scooby-Doo collection.
This part ... Scoob?
Uh, I would ... Yeah, we can open this.
So on this side, we have all the DVDs that
I currently have here with me in California.
Okay.
I like to buy these secondhand,
uh, for the most part.
So you'll see, like, some of
them will have stickers from,
like, secondhand stores on them.
13 Spooky Tales.
Run for your wife.
Your rife.
Get it?
Rife.
Yeah, so a lot- Oh, Scooby-Doo and Kiss?
Yes.
That one is actually one of my favorites.
It is a trip of a movie.
It is crazy.
Um- Cyber chase.
But- You never know what they're gonna
get into ... yeah, these, these are
mostly, like, movies and TV shows.
Some of them are, like, special box
sets of, like, episodes that only
came out with certain releases.
Make-up- I discovered something.
What?
Since last time we talked.
What?
Linda Cardellini played Velma.
Yeah, I think everyone else knew that.
She did.
I've never seen it.
But she's in that- Oh, in the live action?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
And, uh- Right?
Right?
Yeah.
She's hot, right?
Beautiful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Did you know that they made a Muppets?
Did you know this?
Daphne is the one who was, like,
obviously the hot one, but then when
Velma became hot, it was like, wow.
And I guess that's a plot point or something?
Yeah, that's like a meme on-
online about hot Velma from-
Mm ... Scooby-Doo Monsters Unleashed.
Okay.
You saw them.
But did Daphne stay hot,
or did she get less hot?
No, they're all beautiful.
All of them.
Daphne, Velma- Hot.
I'm talking about hotness.
They're both hot, yes.
All right.
Um- Shaggy not hot.
I mean, depends on who you ask.
I think that's totally subjective.
Okay, so- And that's like the start of
Matthew Lillard being Shaggy, like, going
forward- Yeah ... all the way to today Right,
exactly Uh, this is a special edition box
set for the 50th anniversary That's cool.
Yeah.
I've never opened it.
It just lives on my shelf.
And then- Yeah ... looky there I got
that at the Petersen Museum here in LA.
Uh, they had the Mystery Machine there,
and I got to, like, take photos with it,
and that was really fun for me personally.
Uh- Casey Kasem was the original Shaggy?
Is that true?
He was.
Yes.
He played Shaggy- The DJ ... up until
What's New Scooby Doo?, and then Matthew
Lillard took over shortly after that.
Now, have you, uh, have you ... Oh,
you got a lawyer tag, just in case.
Yes, just in case someone tries to steal
my collection, I can track them down.
Do you know why you do this?
Um, I've really been trying to figure
that out, and all I know is I've
been collecting since I was four.
I think I've always had an
affinity for animation in general.
I didn't have TV growing up, so any time
I, we went to, like, a used bookstore, I
would buy, like, any kids cartoons I could
'cause that was my only way to watch them
You didn't ha- you didn't have TV growing up?
Mm-mm.
We- What, you didn't have reception?
No, my parents just didn't wanna pay
for, like, all the fancy channels.
You had rabbit ears.
We had, we had, like, cable.
Like, basic, like, news channel.
Like- Okay ... local news.
That was kind of it.
So this was my, this was my fix.
Um, and now I have, you know, like, this
whole makeup bag here that looks like
the Mystery Machine, and it has- Yeah, I
remember you saying you, you were wearing-
brushes.
I'm wearing the Daphne lip kit right
now, and some Scooby-Doo blush as well.
And now is this an everyday
thing, Scooby-Doo makeup, for you?
No, it's special occasions.
Special occasions.
Yeah.
Um, I will say this is a little more
delicate, so I have it in a separate
bag, but this is probably, like, the,
my pride and joy of my collection.
Mm-hmm.
I was gonna ask.
It is an animation cel from
13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
This is Weird.
He is one of the two, uh, antagonists
of the show, Weird and Boggle.
My partner gifted me this for Christmas
a couple years ago, and it- Wow.
It's an actual frame in the movie.
I own, I own a piece of
animation from a TV show.
Is that not 13 Spooky Tales?
No, 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo,
which I might not have here.
That might be back at home.
Well, that feels like a problem.
It might be in here.
There's more- There it
is ... there's more in here.
Nope.
No, no.
That's more Spooky Tales.
There's a lot of, there's a lot of 13s.
They like the 13 spooky something.
Oh, here we go.
I wanna get to everybody- 13
Ghosts ... and that's not gonna happen.
So I'm just warning y'all.
Yeah.
Somebody's gonna get cut- ... 'cause- No,
we're going hyper speed, hyper speed, hyper
speed ... 'cause now- Now do you get out
of here ... you know- All right, guys,
I'm sorry ... there's, there's nothing
like bringing in your collection and
then getting cut for time on an internet
show that can be as long as we want it.
Yeah.
All right.
Somebody help her get this out of here.
It is a lot.
Yeah, we don't want these
to get- Elisa, come on in.
We don't want these to get messed up.
Yep, yep.
Yep.
And don't, just, just- Yeah, just,
yeah ... don't, now don't damage anything- I
won't ... just 'cause we're rushing around.
Yeah, it's, they're DVDs.
They're flexible.
Yeah, we got it.
Thanks, guys.
All right.
All right.
S- um, I'm gonna pour mine on the table Okay,
so you don't, you don't have a suitcase,
which is good I don't have a suitcase.
I just have a bag.
Um Over here?
Over here.
It's my rubber duck collection.
Oh, rubber ducky.
Yeah We've got, even have
prescription rubber duckies.
Yes, that's my favorite.
Okay, just in case.
My happy pills.
I like, you don't seem too precious with
these- No ... 'cause they're durable.
They're durable.
I gave, they live in my bathroom.
Um- I had a relationship with
a rubber ducky as a young one.
Yeah?
What, w- what kind of relationship?
Uh, it was a bathing relationship.
Yeah, that's the relationship
I have with these.
I, I, I had a special rubber ducky.
I don't know.
Did he have a name?
It's kinda like a, like
an Ernie- Yeah ... thing.
Yeah, totally.
Same.
Um, and so, i- is this now the kinda thing
that when you travel you're like, "I gotta
get my rubber ducky from this place"?
It, I, I have found multiple places when
I travel have, um, claw machines- Yeah
with rubber ducks, and that's
where most of these are from.
I've won them.
You, you got good at the claw?
It's good to have a little bit of a goal-
Yes ... like, for collecting while traveling.
Yes, exactly.
So if I see a duck, I buy the duck.
Exactly.
And which one do we each
get to keep permanently?
Uh, which is your favorite?
Just kidding.
My favorite is these.
Do, do you bathe with these?
Um, they sit above my, my bathtub,
so- So kinda ... adjacent.
Yeah.
You never put 'em in, let 'em float around?
Uh, last night I gave them a bath.
Okay.
Which one- What do you find of value
most, Alyssa, of your favorites?
Um, I, this is my new favorite.
I thought about it, 'cause it's a duck
dressed as a frog- Duck dressed as a frog
holding a mushroom.
I mean, w- how, how does
that even happen, really?
I know, right?
Isn't he cute?
Okay.
Yeah, but then my first one, I was
gifted this one in high school, that's
why he's dirty, when I graduated.
Um, we're gonna give you, we're
gonna give you an A minus.
Awesome.
Uh, which is still very respectable.
Yeah, seriously.
And, uh, Scooby Doo- Good idea ... just
because we're a little bit concerned about
Noddy, we're gonna give you a B minus.
Okay?
Aw.
Just a lit- just a little bit.
It's an incredible collection, though.
Potentially the most impressive collection.
Thank you for watching this.
I just don't wanna encourage you too much.
You're welcome.
That's the only reason you get a B minus.
Julian?
Yep.
I think we're gonna make it.
We can, we can- There's one more after
this ... we can chill out a little bit.
Callie, we're gonna make it to you.
Do we want to is another question.
I'll cry.
I'll cry if I can't show you guys this.
Okay, Julian.
All right.
Yes.
This is something sadistic, isn't it?
Absolutely.
What are you doing here, Julian?
Um, can I?
Yeah, absolutely.
Okay, it appears to be- ... masks The inside
of this mask smells like patchouli Oh my.
What is wrong with you, Julian?
Why does this mask smell like patchouli?
Did you make these?
Some of them, yes.
Someone's faces.
Uh, and exactly why?
Um, so I was always into costuming
and, uh, eventually some people were
just like, "Hey, you're weird." Um,
I found this mask, um, this one.
Uh, I found this mask at a
thrift store, would you like it?
And I was like, "Yeah, of course."
And then I started going to different
thrift stores and finding other masks.
And then- This one's not
technically a mask though, is it?
No.
This is more of a- It's a, it's like a
ceramic kind of- So the- ... wall mount.
It's, it can have a mask.
It can have a mask, yeah.
And so, uh, like these are the ones
that I've painted and I've made.
Uh, I made this guy.
Oh.
Come on, well model them.
All right.
Take your, take, you gotta
take the- Well, here.
Okay.
But aren't these the kind of masks that
you wear to, like, swingers parties?
Uh, if you would like to.
I'm gonna go to- I'm gonna go
to a swingers party as Iron Man.
We technically all can.
You'll never recognize me.
Who's that 6'7" guy with long hair
and a beard that comes up to the bar?
It's clearly Tony Stark.
It's, it's Robert Downey Jr., I'm sure.
This is cool.
What does that say?
Hand painted, made in Italy.
Um- Also smells like patchouli inside.
So do you have these-
Italy, I like patchouli.
Do, do you, um, do you store
these in a vat of patchouli?
Yeah, actually.
How'd you know?
Your whole house is just a vat of patchouli.
But do, do you have them up
somewhere- ... where they, like,
look at you creepily at night?
I do.
I have a gallery wall, so I have like a
bunch of masks and, uh, artwork, um, there.
So you have like a cr- you have a
c- little bit of a creepy situation.
A little bit of creepy situation.
You got a little creepy situation.
Nothing wrong with that.
I, we, this came from the show.
Yes, yes it did.
You gobbled it up.
I did.
I saw it and I was like,
I, that, I want that.
You know, that's a mask
I could use on my phone.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Wow.
Uh, again, I'm also a little
bit worried about you.
Mm-hmm.
Uh, so we don't wanna over encourage it.
We're just gonna do a,
just a straight B. Okay?
Sounds good.
We're gonna- O- okay ... I'm gonna
do some sort of ginger stacking here.
Mm. Oh, you get, I didn't
see double Iron Man.
There's three of them.
Oh, triple Iron Man.
We can all go.
Exactly.
The three, the three Iron Men showed up.
And then we not know who's doing what to who.
Yeah, it just, yeah.
And we don't talk about it.
We don't talk about it.
No.
Like, every, whatever
happens there stays there.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Those are the rules.
That, that's not us, that's the Iron Men.
You know what I'm saying?
The Iron Men did that, not us.
The Iron Men.
But one of them smelled more like patchouli.
Yep.
All right, I'm trying to be easy with
it, but I do want you to leave, so.
Okay.
Ugh.
I, I mean, I collected, uh, brochures
to tourist destinations that I
never visited when I was- Yeah.
See?
There you go ... young.
And he takes them to all the parties.
And I would, I would just look through
'em, uh, when I didn't have siblings,
which was my entire childhood.
Come on in, Tally.
All right.
I have a flattened penny collection.
Flattened?
Oh, like the machines.
Yes.
Yeah.
All right.
So they're in kind of l- um,
chronological order of me collecting
them, from my guesses, I guess.
I don't have all the data.
Um, so that's- Because when you go
to places ... that's the oldest ones
they'll ha- like- These are all-
They have a machine ... tourist
destinations tend to have a machine-
Yeah ... that will, you put a penny in
and it will- No, you put a quarter in.
You put, like, a dollar in.
A dollar in.
With the penny.
Yeah, yeah.
And with a... You c- you
have to donate the penny.
You get the penny back, but it's
flattened and it is- Correct
smooshed with new designs.
Yeah, it has, like, a little, they
have little designs on them, so it
usually talks about where, where
you are- Whoops, I'm- ... taking
them ... some, these are falling out here.
Yeah, that's, that's fine.
Is that all right?
Yeah, that's fine.
That's my favorite one, actually, so.
I get this because you've got this-
No, that's not the favorite one.
I'm not- ... physical, uh, mo- you
know, memento about these different
places that you, you visited.
I never really got it when
I saw people doing it.
But when I see it like this, in a
big collection, and you're like, "Oh,
look at all the places that..." I'll
never look at my photo album again.
Sequoia.
I'll just look at these pennies.
Yeah.
The ones on this side, these are...
A lot of these are from the Virginia
Aquarium, which is where my grandparents
volunteered during their retirement.
So that's kinda where it started.
I'd go there every summer and, uh,
I'd always get a penny, and so I had,
like, a bunch of them from there.
And then I just kept kinda collecting them
here and there, and then in my adulthood,
I was like, "You know, this is cool.
I have a lot of these." So.
I'm gonna find a book.
I have a fourth book, but I couldn't find it.
I went to Solvang- Oh, no ... last month,
and- Okay ... and I got a new book there.
So.
You've also been to the UFO
Museum in Roswell- Yes, I went
there last year ... New Mexico.
Now, if you go someplace and they have
one of these machines and you don't have
a dollar, do you panic a little bit?
Um, I immediately start
looking for a cash register.
And I'm like- Right ... "Where
can I exchange money?" Yeah.
It gives you a- Yeah ... little
bit of a mission.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
And you can- Link is just
dropping 'em everywhere.
All right.
Have you, uh- I mean,
that's mine, but all right.
So have you ever, like, put one of
these in a give a penny, take a penny?
No.
Have you ever just taken a penny,
'cause that way you know you'd have one?
I have trade- I have traded them out.
Mm-hmm.
Um, if you can see, I started trying my best
to get, like, shiny pennies, 'cause they just
look- Yeah ... a lot nicer- Mm-hmm ... and
everything, whereas, like, some of the
really- Yeah ... old ones are just- Your
technique- They look kinda- Black ones
your technique got better.
They look kinda gross.
Yeah.
And are you worried now that
they're not making pennies?
Is this a problem for you?
I, I am a little bit, but also I'm pretty
confident I probably could just go to a bank
and be like, "Hey, can I have, like, a dollar
of pennies?" And they could give me, and
that would- In this, the next hundred places
that would probably last, that would
probably last another 20 years.
You might wanna do that now, though
Yeah, you were Just telling you.
Because you haven't done that yet,
we're gonna give you a B minus.
Oh.
Oh.
Because what's, 'cause now you're
gonna be thinking about it.
When you get home, you'll be like, "Man, if
they, if I had a bunch of extra pennies..."
Uh-huh.
This is f- This is what's best for you.
Uh-huh.
Okay?
We're only doing this because we,
we believe in you- Uh-huh ... and
we want what is best for you.
B minus.
Which is more pennies.
Okay.
All right.
That's fair.
What's best for me is more pennies.
I do agree with that.
The collection's amazing, though.
Thank you.
