wouldn’t think that an internet show needs 12 cameras running it right at once but there are times when it does not over here we don’t have 12 cameras pointed at us we have five cameras over here sometimes we have one up here that would be six sometimes they have one back there that would be seven yeah it starts adding up pretty fast We’re not gonna do anything in this end yeah you don’t want to miss it they don’t want to miss it one what iteration of the set is this for GMM this is the fifth iteration of the set yeah we put a roof on it that used to not be here these incredible beams that never show up on camera like a lodge yeah it’s like a lodge yeah but like it’s got a good large energy and then at some point we had to transition to stuff that’s legal to put on a set right you used to have like Lionel Richie back here yeah and now all this art and everything is officially licensed I don’t think that Batman is officially licensed but he’s so small you can’t see it yeah these screens are they queuing things so the screens will have a video that we might watch or like yesterday about time for the episode you gotta grab it push it link has his mother on this one because he needs to see your face to be comforted at all times no that’s our mirror we see ourselves here okay okay and then this is sometimes an outline of an episode sometimes playback and then we’ll switch it sometimes if we need both so all of this setup kind of allows you to shoot without too much editing we do it pretty much live like yeah whenever you see a title card on the screen they’ll take it the least amount of time to BR if they’re bringing something in it’s clearing something out yeah and then they’re orienting us to what the next thing is like over here this is where they keep all the food warm and like Josh or Nicole or whoever will stand over here and interact with us so like and then they’ll just bring it over so like it yeah pretty much Happens Live there’s our two office phones the rep phone the link phone take a lot of calls here’s the wheel [Applause] it really spins it’s not CGI if I yeah um no I don’t know it tastes nice okay it takes more muscle than you think all right that’s right and there are a bunch of people sitting over there while you guys are yeah yeah so at this point we have two rows of people so this is sound then you got playback twinkle thingy sits here this is where Matt Carney says Carney sits he’s a show runner and then this is Stevie this is man I’ve never actually never Stevie sits here with this point blank in front of her and this is this is oh wow 12 cameras rolling she’s seeing all 12 cameras on it yeah she’s watching and moderating she’s talking into this microphone I love that it’s included in the episodes you know we just kind of eased into that over the years and now she’s become like a character in the show okay Stevie how does this work alrighty boys these two plates of breakfast chicken and waffles come from the two most we’ve done over the years is we found that uh some of the more entertaining formats and episodes are in which the writers the crew have devised a game that we just know the structure of but the specifics of all of us guessing where is this sandwich from what’s this missing flavor it was this fresh or is this Frozen and so all the raw material for those games is in here it’s right here in this bowl up here there’s not just meetings that we can’t be in so in the outlines for every episode where we know like this is what we’re doing there is a crew version and there’s a written link only version and even in the rent link only version if you scroll down far enough there’ll be a point usually where it says Brett and Link do not scroll any further wow a lot of troughs there oh yeah you know it’s not it’s not fun if you know the answer whoa all right V we’ll get out of your hair thank you and this is the front lobby with a sign with Carly it’s Carly she has her own nameplate we uh recently not too recently but this year uh changed this from a previous version and all the fans were completely supportive and thought that change is great and they always love to see when we do storage for batteries outdoor trash bags soap we have a whole Locker wow well actually that’s that’s Tampax that’s not soap y’all need to relabel that what happens in here so this is the bullpen where people work right now we got a decent amount of people working from home so uh they’re not here Caleb’s Caleb is trying designing stuff so a lot of the mythical Graphics you see on t-shirts Etc but from the mind of Caleb drawing myself as a baby right now completely not work related you definitely had time to like pull something up that you’ve already completed this is our uh our pet snake Craig this is what happens when you buy a snake for a bit and the pet store doesn’t take him back right right every time we do something that couldn’t become a poster we make it a poster it makes us feel good makes us feel like time is passing and we’re actually accomplishing things Good Mythical evening podcast we co-produced and then this was a horror short film that we did that was a tick tock original meaning that we just put it on Tick Tock originally okay yeah yeah yeah and then we made a poster of it we always stand as Rhett and Link because it’s less confusing and I’m such a large person that it helps balance things when link sort of gets in front of me like this so those two things sort of take care of itself and you’ll see that a lot the hands in particular is this day we were supposed to have binoculars brought and they didn’t show up so we just decided to act like we had them everyone does their podcast in here and what you do is you take the sign for your podcast put it in the side holder and that God becomes the set for your particular podcast oh cool hey guys we’re doing a tour just hey everyone this is normal at least like normal so we got the edit edit room in here hey what’s up guys yeah so basically so much of what happens whether it’s GMM mythical kitchen podcast whatever a lot of that stuff is in repurposed and distributed vertical everywhere else but also we do some short form originals and all that is edited in this room we’re here at the art Department knock knock y’all there’s so many things that like everything is a show is to use on the show right some of the problems this is definitely the most disturbing department for sure this claw here I can’t remember what that that was uh Halloween some Halloween episode Freddy Krueger claw and then we had it we had this uh unicorn themed food episode where it was like every you know everything had the like rainbow color so they built this unicorn we got fake money for the club it’s nice cool sure so much of it got that YouTube money come on in have a seat on the couch make yourself at home does it ever overwhelm you like how many people are out there how big this operation has gotten yeah we had a party in the um in the parking lot and it’s like there was a lot of like just kind of standing back and like all these people it’s like it’s pretty cool yeah yeah you know I got all these like fun loving nice people young yeah young nice people this is a very long couch yeah yeah like red you could lay down on that couch I believe it was custom made given my height so that I could lay down but you know who ends up laying down on there during breaks the key is taking your phone and putting it on do not disturb you put it out there and you set an alarm 20 minutes sometimes I’ll set it for 45 minutes okay it doesn’t take long you’ll know he’s asleep when the mouth opens I can’t do it now you’re making me smile I don’t smile when I sleep be like your mouth just gaped open a little bit put quarters in there okay so that’s basically this side which is what we moved into seven years ago but then the other side became available so this is a whole new initiative team and department sport.com so this is basically the consumer reports of stuff you could get on the grocery store aisle there’s food hanging around everywhere because they’re like they’re constantly tasting things in this room here I think is like their Studio yeah so they taste stuff over here and you know all you need is a good wall and a good sign yeah yeah explore that feels good too so structurally this is like GMM is table cameras some signage yeah like if you boil it down to its simplest form this is the starting point of like a new Endeavor is hey let’s yeah yeah I think that the site is more about the rankings the video content is something like when the process of growing into but it’s it’s first and foremost like an SEO plate it’s just got you know as a tool when somebody searches best mayonnaise we want to be the number one thing that comes up it’s a different it’s a game that we’ve never played before why is that pickle there if you didn’t know what they do like what happens here all of these people have hit rock bottoms I know this is like this 26-pack and an open shop with soda it’s like get a hold of yourself yeah I know stuffed puffs so how does the idea for Sport come about or at least like who pushes that forward I mean we share the Insight that Rhett said you know people are searching we’re we’re searching our own videos at the grocery store yeah yeah because the idea we had was like could this be like a tool or you know could it be an app like a database sort of to like go in there and then that was when once we started talking to people who knew about this kind of space they were like well the SEO thing which is we don’t have any experience we’re content guys right so we don’t know about the SEO and the keywords and all that stuff uh and then when they say that they were like well this is how people look for stuff on the internet so we need to be popping up in those places so that’s how it became what it is uh I just wanted to say thank you honestly like thank you for showing us around thanks for sitting down with us uh and we appreciate it yeah and like for all you do for Creator them yes yes thank you yeah and like I’m gonna have that exact same outfit all right very soon maybe a different color maybe go tan yeah cool great awesome thanks guys okay so there’s four key lessons that we learned from touring Rhett and Link studio that have to do with why they’ve been so consistent for so long so let’s start with number one if you want to get more episodes out film them as if they’re live we’re not going to do anything again yeah you don’t want to miss it they don’t want to miss it for Rhett and Link it’s the performance on screen that matters foreign not the countless hours spent in the edit to tweak every single little detail we spend a lot of time on post-production but by shooting as if they’re live it allows mythical to minimize the amount of time it takes to edit and because of this they can get more videos out more often Monday through Friday five times a week five episodes a week five that’s unheard of with so much of an emphasis on the live performance everything around the set is there to make the recording go smoother trade secret uh it’s not much of a mystery to people who watch closely there are some very few but like the like the very beginning of a title or intro or whatever where we’re actually reading off of a prompter that is controlled right here this is made by world candies Incorporated established in 1952 but changed to World Confections Incorporated later on in order to shoot the show live it means that the writers and the producers have to do the work beforehand to make sure that whatever happens on camera is as interesting as possible even if it’s not edited it also means that rent and Link have to be okay with looser less edited episodes and many times even include what’s happening behind the cameras for us we’ve started to develop some formats that are based around the live performance cheers it’s the first time we’re drinking on the show and that include our team behind the cameras if you are a Creator should you pay your taxes like every quarter not only are these episodes really fun to make but similar to Good Mythical Morning they also take a lot less time to edit lesson two specialization increases focus and more Focus leads to a more efficient process for getting videos out at mythical each show format and department has its own space dedicated to doing one thing so instead of making the mythical kitchen cook and perform on the in the kitchen that we were actually using that we made an actual entertainment kitchen for entertainment purposes only one of the biggest problems that we face in our current office is that it’s like a garage it’s one room and we’re all talking over each other so only one thing can be done at a time for example right now samir’s doing a live stream which means no one else can work in here that’s extremely inefficient now not all creators have a campus like Rhett and Link but we do think it’s important to specialize different areas of your workspace and make the creation process as easy as possible so you don’t have to waste time setting up or taking down lesson three gets to the core of why Rhett and Link have been so successful on YouTube at mythical across all their shows they plan for the unplanned to happen leaving room for the element of surprise ensures that one-of-a-kind moments happen and are shared between them and their community that would actually hurts Lesson Four may be the most important from the tour the game that we’re all in as creators is attention and sporked is a clever way to Garner more attention for the episodes and find more audience for creators it’s not just
