i wonder what sort of evil genius summoned us to this dark and mysterious meeting place maybe it’s a walking talking shark with teeth made out of fire or a floating brain in a glass jar that talks to a computer or a green ghost whose breath smells like canned tuna or or a completely normal and put together adult woman with no outwardly appearing evil qualities whatsoever i do have rocket boots whoa how evil i’ve summoned you here today to formally invite you to be my evil interns in order to help put a stop to stampy and keen once and for all awesome how much does it pay well it doesn’t pay any actual money not even rotten me but i can pay you in experience we accept evil interns high five well done boys now that you’ve helped benjamin franklin wonder about the lightning rod there is only one wanderer left this time you’re headed back to edison new jersey in the year 1878. edison new jersey huh i can’t possibly imagine which famous inventor we’re looking for there maybe george washington carver or marie curie or galileo galilei a very funny stampy well we’re obviously looking for thomas edison right priscilla right thomas edison is one of the most prolific wanderers of all time he developed the phonograph the motion picture camera direct current power the incandescent light bulb and the carbon microphone so that means that rama has probably left him stumped on at least one of those inventions and it’s up to you to unstump him fun fact if you count the rings in a tree stump you can actually determine the age of the tree one ring equals one year and if you count the hairs on a wizard’s beard you can tell how old he is too well all i can see in your beard is little bits of mushroom stew oh well well i’m gonna clean that up right now and then it’s back to the past very accomplished man i can only imagine he worked tirelessly day in and day out to create all those inventions maybe he’s working hard right now fixated on some great idea that could change the world forever i don’t think so stampy no why not because he’s snoring look what i think we best wake him up what hello who are you and what are you doing here um oh sorry to start you mr edison i’m stampy and this here is wizard keen hello we wanted to check out your famous lab and see all of the new inventions that you’re wondering about but it seems like you were busy napping no no i was definitely wondering i was wondering about something really cool and interesting you seemed pretty focused on your beauty sleep to me well yes but who cares i i used to wonder a great deal but i kept failing and perfecting my inventions you know what they say about wondering if at first you don’t succeed give up no one says that that’s not true sure they do there’s a whole song about it and if something is in a song that means it’s 100 true that’s not how songs work william tell him that’s true william william joseph hammer my lab assistant he’s very busy working on something over there william wake up and here on edison’s newest invention you didn’t so happen to hear this song from a mysterious woman named rama she dropped off a free copy for us it’s quite catchy i don’t like the sound of this hit it we’re back here we go when you got a great idea but it just won’t work your first drive failed and the next one could go worse we’ll put down those plans step away from the invention and listen real close to this advice from two smart henchmen if the first two don’t succeed just give up and go to sleep thinking’s just too hard so close your eyes and get some seats great ideas are before grab some pillows have a storm remember that it’s best to just give up give up give up give up don’t you try and be first grade just give up and have a name give up don’t be tempted to keep trying take a nap and dream of what a song every time i hear it i’m reminded that if at first i don’t succeed i should just give up and take a nap in fact i’m feeling pretty sleepy right now oh yeah that song really tuggered me out nap time this is bad stampy rama’s song has taught them both to give up and all they want to do now is sleep we’ve got to figure out a way to help them wonder again i know but how by motivating them and the number one thing that motivates a wanderer is a problem if you find a problem that needs solving then a wanderer can’t help but figure out the solution it’s like putting a piece of cake in front of me i just can’t resist eating it okay then so we need to find a problem in this town and then we need to get edison and hammer to wander a solution once you identify the problem the next logical step is to brainstorm for solutions that fit within your available resources and materials that’s the process of engineering yeah but what’s the problem that this town faces uh keane kane oh kate i i think i’ve lost you where are you okay over here stampy over here over where i’m going hello okay i think we may have just figured it out oh you mean the fact that it’s so dark i keep losing you i can barely even see my own boots anyway oh kane kane i’ve lost you again kane kane where where are you right here right here so dark here it seems at night this town is only illuminated by the occasional torch there are no light bulbs at all that was one of edison’s famous wanderings exactly so we have the problem this town is too dark at night now we’ve got to motivate him to wonder about the light bulb but how hello oh i’m sorry i didn’t mean to scare you oh i think i got it we could scare them if we jump out of the dark and scare edison and hammer they’ll surely be motivated enough to solve the problem not so fast we townsfolk here are so used to the darkness we never get scared i find that very hard to believe hello why did i keep doing that you weren’t lying she didn’t scare you at all ever since we heard that hit song about giving up we knew that edison would never wander again and it was right when they started working on that light bulb too really the problem with the current light bulb is that it was burning out way too fast but after only trying one solution edison and hammer just gave up leaving us in the dark for good i walk into at least 100 walls every night we all have permanent bumps on our heads we need to get edison and hammer to use divergent thinking where they may pursue many solutions for their problem and not just give up well our plan is to scare edison and hammer into fixing his light bulb so then you can stop running into walls well good luck because they’re the hardest to scare in the whole town then we’re going to have to step up our scaring game aren’t we keen i don’t know what that means but i like the sound of it okay king do you have your costume on this seems a bit extreme stampy exactly we’ve got to be extreme if we want to scare edison and hammer into being afraid of the dark again how do we know if it’s going to work because we’re going to practice on those not so scared of the dark towns people first is that really necessary necessary maybe not fun definitely come on let’s go okay i know i dropped my teeth somewhere around here ah i knew i’d find you darkness monster it worked i knew it was going to work darkness monster blah blah blah is that the best you can do i’d love to see you do better watch and learn stampy watch and learn okay let’s not walk into any more walls slow and steady careful footsteps huh not scary i won’t suck your blood definitely not scary i told you kane there is nothing scarier than well i let’s hope it’s enough to scare edison what a busy day we’ve had huh hammer oh tell me about it edison we listen to the give up song again what a catchy tune and if i recall correctly we even met those two um stampy and keem yes trying to get us to wander again and what’s the point you know what they say if at first you don’t succeed give up besides this town is perfect just the way it is not a problem in the world remember when people used to complain about it being too dark they’d say ooh these torches aren’t light enough or oh these torches always blow out or oh these torches are dangerous and can cause fires oh no i dropped the torch ah i’m on fire how silly who needs anything more than torches when they do the trick just fine and thankfully there’s nothing at all to scare us of the dark oh we’ll never be scared of the dark what could possibly scare us nothing that’s right the day i get scared of something in the dark is the day i’ll lick my own toes ew i really don’t want to see him lick his own toes neither do i stampy neither do i whoa you two look busy what happened monsters in the dark is what happened but i thought you said who needs anything but torches that was until our needs changed see the job of the engineer is to adapt and invent in order to meet the ever-changing and everyday needs of the people and we definitely need something that does a better job than those torches so um what’s our problem monsters we both saw monsters and now we are totally scared of the dark darkness is terrifying absolutely terrifying so we need to develop a new solution based on the failures of our current solution which are well it can’t burn anything down and it can’t blow out easily and it has to last a long time and it has to be bright really bright well then our next step is to identify a solution what were you working on before you heard that awful song just this lousy light bulb does it meet all of our needs it’s not gonna cause very many fires you can’t blow it out and it’s way brighter than the torches it’ll keep those scary monsters away but it doesn’t last a long time we tried the bulb with a platinum filament in the center but it didn’t last long at all and then what did you try nothing because just like the song says if at first you don’t succeed give up well what if i told you that there’s another much better song and it goes a little bit like um if at first you don’t succeed don’t worry because next time it could be better because when you try and work hard things can get much better forever so try try and try again it’s not as catchy or very danceable but we do like the message and if it’s a song it has to be true that’s how songs work sure it is shortest well if we’re not giving up then i guess we could try again with a carbon filament in the bulb here a carbon filament all right it lit up but will it last a long time we’ll just have to wait and see can we all agree that it lasts a long time yes the solution is a success and i bet if we keep experimenting we can find a type of carbon filament that will work even better than this one and then we can make bulbs for the whole town but first hammer and i have some very important business to attend to seriously i think they’ve actually earned it this time look keem the wonder meter it’s lit up oh amazing to the time oh machine job my evil interns steal the fuel from their time machine so they’ll be stuck here forever hey hey what are you guys doing over there no don’t steal our fuel we need that quick everyone run not so fast you two go and stall stampy and keen i’ll hold on to the fuel uh you’re not gonna leave without us are you of course not you’re my interns no one would ever mistreat an intern something tells me we should have predicted that did you just steal all of our fuel and give it to rama yes and did she just abandon you here with us meaning that we’re all here stranded in 1878 definitely is that bad for the environment stampede we should find a new use for it you mean like eating it
