Is this Final Fantasy VII? – It looks like Final Fantasy. – Yeah. – I mean, that’s the character. – ‘Cause that was Cloud? I don’t know Final Fantasy. Am I right? Or Kingdom Hearts? (Finebros) Well, no, no, no, no, no. Cloud was also in Kingdom Hearts, but– Oh, oh, oh, oh. Kingdom Hearts was a fusion of Disney and Final Fantasy. – Yes. – Got it. (both) We got there. I am super curious to see what they’re gonna do with the cross-dressing scene ’cause that is gonna be super awkward for everyone involved. I guarantee it. ♪ (dramatic chord) ♪ (Finebros) So what video game was that a trailer for? Final Fantasy VII, the remake. I also played the Chronicles one for GameCube. That went off– you connected your GBA to it. So good. – What’s a GBA? – Game Boy Advance. Are you kidding? – I’ve never heard any– – Sorry, [inaudible] are in the biz. – Next question. – (laughs) (Finebros) And when they premiered this at E3, what did the crowd do? It was huge! I remember the crowd just roaring for ten minutes straight. Probably a lot of jumping in the air and punching like this. You hear the rumblings in the audience, where it’s like, “Oh, wait, this town looks kind of familiar.” And the moment that gave it all away – was Barrett and the gun. – Yeah. Everyone was like, “Oh my god! It is Final Fantasy VII!” – Childhood dreams came true that day. – Yes. You have a huge subset of gamers and fans who just want to relive and re-experience all their favorite classic titles, and E3 was full of that this year. You had Rare Replay, you had Xbox One announcing it’s backwards compatible, but then you also have VR technology and HoloLens and a lot of this future tech coming down the pipeline. So we’re at really interesting crossroads, where we’re yearning for nostalgia and things that make us feel comfortable and homey and that we have these really positive experiences with, but then we’re also excited and looking towards the future of what’s coming next. (Finebros) So have you played Final Fantasy VII before? Not the whole way through. I never played any of them, but I was a Kingdom Hearts guy. Back in the day, I had to go to my cousin’s house, my cousin Erin’s house, to play on his PS1. We never got our gold chocobo though, so I never got to see Knights of the Round. Yes! It was so good. The characters were so good– Red XIII, Vincent… “You-fee” or “Yuffie”– I forget how to pronounce her name. – She steals– – The girl who stole my money? Yes, she steals your money and your hearts. – I had a crush on her. – (laughs) (Finebros) So this game is an RPG. What does that stand for? Role Play Game? Rocket “Proprell”– Rocket “Proprellaganade”. (snickering) – “Ganade.” – Rocket Propelled Grenade. Role Playing Game. (Finebros) So Final Fantasy has all of these sequels, but the games don’t continue a storyline. They are completely different characters, by and large. Why do you think they make that choice instead of just calling it a different game? That’s actually really nice, though. If you just keep continuing with the same thing, people are gonna get bored of it. Final Fantasy has made a name of itself, so it’s basically just stick with the name and they’ll just produce more and then sell more. But because they have this name, “(dramatically) Final Fantasy!” People are gonna be like, “(gasps) There’s another one!” and get super hyped-up and excited, and that’s why they’ll probably go ahead and play it. It’s like if a YouTuber makes one video, it gets a lot of views and they make other videos that aren’t the same, but still it’s on the same channel. If it already has the credit, why not? It’s more like True Detective, which, incidentally, has been a disappointment. But I’m still watching it because it’s True Detective. You’ve gotta make your money, right? It’s a known brand. It’s a title that people trust and are willing to spend money– or waning trust, I guess at this point, but historically it has been a title that people will be excited to see appear. It’s names that people recognize and it’s basically guaranteed money. (Finebros) So does it make you interested in Final Fantasy VII? Yeah, I wanna buy a PS4 after we finish this shoot. Honestly, kind of. I want to study. I feel like I need to brush up a little bit becuase it’s a pop culture thing. We recently got video games on our bus, our tour bus, and so that could be a fun one to have. I’m afraid of how much time it would take, you know? (Finebros) About how long does it take you to beat a Final Fantasy game? Well, I beat Final Fantasy VII in only about 30 hours. It’d probably take him 40 hours, and 60 hours. I’ll do it in five. – (impressed) Ooh! – (laughs) – Whoa! – Just kidding. Confession time: I’ve never fully beat one. This one, my friends would play it, and I’d just sit there and watch. I’d mess with it a little bit. We’d pass the controller around. But then Smash Brothers comes out and that’s pretty much it. (Finebros) Well, it would take you about 40-60 hours to beat the game. – Oh wow. – That’s a long time. Yeah, no time. Whelp. (laughs) That’s gonna be a long weekend. (laughs) See, you think that sounds like a lot, but the thing is I’ve watched seasons of shows in a day. – (Finebros) Still wanna play? – Oh, hell yeah. Of course. I could set aside a work week and a week of being a father. And they could watch you play it. That could be you fathering them. That’s it!
