Today we feel the international power of peanut butter. – Let’s talk about that. (upbeat music) Good mythical summer. – That’s right, welcome to Good Mythical Summer. We got a new decor vibe here. It’s very nauticulal. – Yeah, nauticular and we’re gonna be dropping episodes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday all summer long, all right. – It’s gonna be hotter than a fresh batch of boiled peanuts. – Okay, I see where you’re going with that, I like the transition. I am very excited for today. We’re peanut butter boys. – Yep, we are. – And we like international surprises. – Yeah, that’s true also. – So it is not surprising that countries all over the world love to cook with peanuts or peanut butter and we’re about to sample some of that cuisine. – And please note, no fresh jars of peanut butter were harmed in the making of this episode. – It’s time for… ♪ Where in the world do these international peanut butter ♪ ♪ Dishes come from ♪ – We’re gonna try dishes from around the world that use peanut butter or peanuts as a main ingredient. We’ll throw a dart at the country we think those dishes came from and since we haven’t seen Chase since the end of last season and we have no idea where or when he is, Josh will be filling in as the peanut cracker cartographer. – Came here to crack nuts and measure maps boys and I don’t see any nuts. – Well, okay. – So Josh is gonna measure how far our dart is from the correct answer. – You look great. Whoever has the lowest score wins. – Chase is back. Hey man. – Yeah, I got sent back. – Josh, is there a, is there something else you’d rather be doing because you’re free to do it. – Senior staff reports are due soon so I’ll go hit that. (Rhett laughs) – That’s right, business never stops. – All right, Rhett, you won last time. So I get the special advantage, which is a peanut butter putter. – I’m excited to see that. And the winner gets a special peanut butter treat to enjoy in Good Mythical more. Yes. – Mm, we’ve got some sort of like flatbread thingy. – Flatbread thingy, yup. – And then I guess this is the peanut buttery thing. Which I’m just gonna eat a spoonful. Ooh, that tastes good. – I guess I’m doing this right. – It’s very peanut buttery, there’s onions in it. It’s very savory, it’s nice. Is there meats in there? There’s a meatiness to it, but it’s like mush. Like meat mush. – I’m actually not, I don’t know if that’s meat or not. – That’s good, I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s like a really thick, congealed bolognese. – Bolognese, huh, you say. Well Italy is not an option, Link. – Peanut bolognese. Do you think the bread is a hint? – Well, to me the texture of this is very similar to what I’ve had in an Ethiopian restaurant. – I keep wanting to do that, but I haven’t gone to one. – So I mean, we’ve got Sudan on there. We’ve also got Nigeria but Sudan is closer to Ethiopia over there on the east coast. So, I’m not gonna think too much about this one. I’m gonna go for Sudan. Oo, and I’m gonna hit west of it. – [Link] Oh, a little bit to the left. Hm, a hearty meal. I’m gonna go for Nigeria. Oh, a little low. – We’re all over it. – Stevie, help me out. – [Stevie] This peanut butter, eggplant salad known as salata aswad is made by sauteing fried eggplants in a sauce of tomato paste, peanut butter and onions with the addition of lime juice to balance the bitterness of the eggplants. This popular side dish can be found in Sudan. – Ooh. – [Link] You were right, Rhett. – I was right, but I wasn’t any closer I don’t think. – Rhett, 12, Link, 11. – Oh, you were actually closer. You okay, Chase? – Yeah, it’s… (sighs) – Okay. – It’s tight. This one looks similar, but okay what is that? A leek? This is a bit of a different taste. Oo, it’s fishy but that’s like beef. Of course peanut butter. Is that goat? Is it a fishy taste or a farmy taste? – It’s really interesting because I was thinking it was kind of a farmy taste but then when you said fish I was like, ah. – It’s fishy and farmy. – [Rhett] It definitely has a fish sauce in it. – Yeah, all right, so I’m winning. I was closer on the last one. – Ha, you gotta go first. – So I gotta go first. Man, yeah, it’s fishy in the sauce but then it’s farmy in the meat. Yeah, I think we’re talking about goat. A goat on the coast. – A ghost coat. – [Link] Could this be Ecuador? – Did I say ghost coat? – Yeah, it’s what- – A coast goat. – Yeah, a cold ghost wears. – It’s a coast goat. – Okay, I think I was drawn to Ecuador. I’m going for it. A little low. I gotta raise it up a bit. – Now one of the things I didn’t mention to you Link was that this has bok choy in it. – Oh, I thought that was a leek. – I’m seeing bok choy, I’m tasting fish. I’m gonna go to the complete other side of the map to the Philippines ’cause that’s the only thing that makes sense in my mouth from these options here. Somebody’s about to really pull away and I don’t know if it’s you or me unless it’s in the middle. – Ooh. But didn’t you think there was like a goat in there? – Yeah, well first I was thinking maybe Mongolia but it actually doesn’t taste goaty enough. It’s too fishy, and the bok choy, gotta be Philippines right? – Stevie? – [Stevie] You just tried kare-kare, a soup featuring meats like ox tail, tripe, or pork and vegetables like eggplant, cabbage, and bok choy all together in a savory peanut stew. This is served on special occasions in The Philippines. – Oh! – Oh The Philippines. – Dang it, I’m a long way from there. – When you said oxtail I was like oh crap it’s the Bahamas. – [Link] This is not good. – Sorry Link, but just like usual you got 62, Rhett, seven. – Who took the wind out of your sails? Some sort of patty here with, what is this on top? – Looks like some pickled onions, what is this? – It’s a… – I think that’s a potato cake. – It’s a root vegetable of some sort. Man, I am really hurtin’ when it comes to the score. That Ecuador to Philippines really hurt me. – You know what, maybe this is your opportunity here. That’s really tasty – That is nice. in kind of like a bland is good kind of way. You know sometimes- – That’s why I like it ’cause I like bland stuff I think I like pickled onions. – The onions are good. Is that tomato or is that mint? Did you eat a tomato? – I did not. I dodged it. – I thought maybe you got fooled into eating a tomato. – No, no, no. – [Rhett] Uh, Chase. Okay, potato cakes with pickled onions. – You know, whenever I see pickled onions on stuff now I just order it, I just got a sweet spot for it. Just a tender little spot for pickled onions. – Okay, potatoes obviously very much a staple in Ireland but also Estonia is calling my name a little bit because this Eastern European thing, it’s like this type of taste with the pickled stuff and the patties, this is like something I might’ve had in Slovakia which I know is not necessarily close to Estonia but it’s over there. You know what, no, I’m gonna go for Estonia ’cause why not. – Oh, yeah, you’ve got such a commanding lead you can be a little assertive. I am thinking Pakistan. – And why is that? – Well it didn’t have a, I don’t, I don’t know. (Rhett laughs) – I just, you know, I just – Be honest when your out. – I just kinda go with my gut sometimes. – I don’t know. – It is kind of bland. But I gotta go for the gusto. I gotta hope that you’re really wrong. Pack your bags, we’re going to Pakistan. Ooh. – [Rhett] Okay, well. – Dang it! – [Stevie] All right y’all, you just tried llapingachos. These potato patties are stuffed with cheese then seasoned with achiote spice. They can be served with an array of toppings including salsa de mani, which is a peanut sauce. You can find these served as a side dish to a main course in Ecuador. – [Both] Ecuador. – One round off. – One round too late. – [Link] I’m sucking. – 40 for Rhett, 60 for Link. – Ugh. – We both kinda sucked pretty hard on that one. – I don’t know if you remember, but last year we did an event. That is weird. – Wow. – It’s like a ants on a log. – Yeah, ants on a log. – This is like ants on a tan log instead of a green one. – Take a bite of it, quit talking about it. Tell me how spicy and good that is. – I’m kind of scared because it’s banana. Or is it? – [Rhett] That’s really, really nice. – Ooo, it’s getting hot. – Can’t really taste the peanut as much as you taste they spicy, it’s got peanuts on it. – Ooh, oh that’s spicy. – You tell me if that’s spicy. You tell me it’s not a banana, it’s a plantain ’cause it’s that long and it’s that texture. – Mm hmm. – This has gotta be the Bahamas. – [Link] You’re thinking Bahamas? – Yeah, now listen. – I mean it is spicy and plantainy. – The gamesmanship thing to do here with such a large lead would be to throw it in the middle of the map to not give you any way to even this up but what’s the fun in that? So I’m going Bahamas. – [Link] Ooh, that’s close. – I mean I went to the left of Bahamas. – How could it be anything else? Bring in my peanut butter putter. – Hm, that’s not a putter. (laughs) I mean I’m not much of a golfer. – What is it a chipper? – It looks like it might be a pitching wedge. – A slicer? – But okay, it’s still going. – So I get to touch this wherever I want and I’m using it this round ’cause the next round is a crap shoot. – Crap shoot. – And at least I have choices here. Crap, how could it not be Bahamas? It could be Portugal. – [Rhett] This could make it’s way to Portugal for sure. – Is there peanut butter on the back of the, – Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. – The wedge. – [Rhett] You’re gonna just touch Bahamas just to get it completely right. – [Link] Yep. – [Rhett] Oh, I’d say that’s fully covered. – That’s a bullseye. I just hit the Bahamas. – [Stevie] To make bole, the dish you just had, a ripe plantain is roasted over an open fire, then filled with red sauce made from peppers, tomatoes and onions. Lastly, it’s topped with peanuts and parsley. Bole is a popular street food and can be enjoyed as a snack or a main meal in the country of Nigeria. – No! – Ah! (Link growls) – Hey, you were a little bit closer. – Rhett, you had 34. Link, 24. It’s funny every time ’cause you’re so excited. – What is this? – Is this vienna sausages? – It’s like a little sausage, oh yours broke, you squeezed it too hard. – I don’t know my own strength. – It’s like a peanut butter tinker toy. Very powdery. – What in the world? – It’s like the inside of a Reese’s cup when it gets a little bit too dry. – It turns into peanut butter in your mouth. – Mm hmm, so it’s a peanut butter pellet. Same consistency as a dried up Reese’s. So Rhett, you have a commanding lead. This is the mystery round. It’s a place not marked on the map, so just have a throw. You know what, just close your eyes and throw it at the board, man. – [Rhett] This feels like survival food. In fact, I have some pellets at my house that are like for the apocalypse. I wonder if they taste this good? It feels like someplace cold. It just feels some heartiful. I don’t know man, this could be like a Canadian thing, you know. People who live on those islands out there. I always wanted to go those islands out there but that would be too risky of a guess. I’m thinking maybe northern Europe but I’m just gonna aim at Europe. – Ooh. That was a guessless throw, huh? You’re not trying to help me out any. Hm, I think this is military food. See, we’ve already gone to Africa twice. Could we go there three times? – There’s so many countries there. – [Link] So many peanuts. Yep, I think that’s what it is. I think it’s one of those African countries. Kind of right there in the middle. – [Rhett] Kind of right there in the middle of Africa. – Yeah, I’m just feeling that. Maybe I’ll bullseye it. Op, a little high and tight. – [Stevie] This peanut candy called pacoca- – Oh, it’s a candy. – [Stevie] It’s a candy, is known for it’s dry texture and sweet taste. It’s made by crushing roasted peanuts, sugar, manioc flour and salt in a mortar. Though it’s enjoyed year round, it’s particularly popular during the Festa Junina, a month long summer celebration in Brazil. – Oh man. – Oh. – [Rhett] You could’ve gotten closer, man. You could’ve gotten closer. – Rhett, 32, Link, 22. – Well I won that round by accident but uh, phsh- – It was that Ecuador guess. – I have lost the war. I have lost the war. – Really, really hurt you. – Okay, so I get to enjoy a nice peanut butter treat. Oh it’s one of these. – Oh, that’s gonna occupy you the rest of the day.
