GMM 2472: Regular vs. Low Fat Snacks Taste Test

[Rhett] Are healthier snacks really worth it? – [Link] Let’s talk about that ((Intro Music)) – [Link] Good Mythical Morning. – [Rhett] Close your eyes, Link, and imagine a world of rainbows and blue skies. – [Rhett] A world of never ending peace and happiness. – [Rhett] A world where no one makes fun of your mullet – [Rhett] no matter how make-fun-able it is. – [Link] How do I get to this world, Rhett? Damn it, tell me – [Rhett] We’re already there. – [Rhett] All we need to do is make healthy snacks – [Rhett] taste as good as unhealthy snacks. – [Link] What if they already did? – [Rhett] Well, let’s find out. It’s time for – [Rhett] Good Enough: Fat and Sugar Free Snacks Edition – [Stevie] Gentlemen, today you’re going to taste and compare popular snacks – [Stevie] against their sugar free and low fat counterparts. – [Stevie] Then you’ll decide if the taste of the original snacks – [Stevie] outweigh the nutritional value of the healthier versions, – [Stevie] and you’ve got a stack of cards there with real life calorie burning scenarios – [Stevie] to help you make your decision. – [Rhett] Those are my favorite scenarios. – [Link] First up is original Cheez-Its versus reduced fat Cheez-It’s – [Link] While you love volunteering at your grandma’s nursing home, – [Link] you don’t love it when her roommate, Fran, – [Link] just so happens to accidentally spill her jar of pennies – [Link] every time you’re around, so she can watch you pick them up. – [Link] Picking up a single penny burns 0.167 calories, – [Link] which means you would have to bend over – [Link] and pick up a penny 60 times – [Link] in order to burn the extra calories in the classic Cheez-Its. – [Link] It wouldn’t mean that you would bend over once – [Link] and pick up a whole bunch of pennies. – [Link] You would bend over each time and pick up one penny, – [Link] because that’s how Fran likes it. – [Link] Are normal Cheez-Its – [Rhett] Stretch it out for Fran. – [Link] worth bending over 60 times in front of Frisky Franny – [Link] or are the reduced fat ones good enough? – [Rhett] And this is like the calories saved in a serving, right? Is that? – [Stevie] Yeah – [Rhett] Calories saved in a serving. – [Link] We should definitely start. – [Rhett] Always start with this, because if you’re going to get the healthier version, – [Rhett] just know when it’s at your house, it’s the only thing at your house. – [Rhett] So, this is actually kind of an unfair, – [Rhett] if you taste the first one, you’re going to be like so disappointed. – [Rhett] But like, what is the experience in just eating a healthier – [Link] Cheez-It – [Link] t’s just a Cheez-It, right? Something’s off with this Cheez-It. It’s a little unsatisfying. – [Rhett] I might just think it was a little old, like Fran. – [Link] Yeah, it feels a little old. – [Rhett] Not cheesy enough or something – [Rhett] But, I keep going. – [Link] I wonder what. Maybe fat? – [Link] Let’s see how dramatic the difference is. – [Rhett] These have that Cheez-It taste. – [Rhett] There’s like a distinct sort of like what makes a Cheez-It a Cheez-It, – [Rhett] in my mind is happening with this, that’s not happening with that. – [Link] It’s an aftertaste kind of thing. – [Rhett] It hit my tongue. I’m a big Cheez-It fan though. – [Link] You like bending over in front of an old lady for her viewing pleasure? – [Link] Because I really don’t have a problem with that. – [Rhett] I’ve bent over quite a bit – [Link] Right, just make sure you hinge right. – [Rhett] From time to time, and most of the time. – [Link] What are the scenarios where you’re bending over quite a bit? – [Rhett] Anybody who is enjoying this, that’s fine. I don’t care. – [Rhett] I don’t feel exploited. I mean, I’m going to bend over. – [Link] You know what? Here you go. – [Link] Oh, sorry, I’ve got that right on you crack. That’s actually perfect. – [Rhett] I was just picking up a Cheez-It off the floor and eating it. – [Link] Whoops! Franny, you watching? – [Link] You didn’t want to give Fran another? – [Rhett] I mean, you can only eat one thing off the floor a day. – [Rhett] I have a feeling that you don’t think – [Link] These are like cardboard. – [Rhett] Oh – [Link] No, they are. – [Link] No, I agree. – [Link] It’s just for me, it was an after taste, not an immediate taste. – [Link] But that makes all the difference. – [Rhett] I think these don’t have what makes a Cheez-It a Cheez-It. – [Rhett] And apparently what makes a Cheez-It a Cheez-It is a little bit of extra fat. – [Link] And a lot of bending over – [Rhett] Reduced fat Cheez-Its, ugh, that’s rough! – [Rhett] Okay, now we’ve got, – [Rhett] is it Sargento or Sargènto? – [Rhett] Sargento string cheese versus Sargento light string cheese. – [Rhett] Light string cheese is exactly half as many calories. – [Link] And half the fat. – [Rhett] So, one of these in the original, one string, 90 calories – [Rhett] and one of these 45. – [Rhett] That’s a pretty big difference. Here’s the scenario to consider. – [Rhett] Wow, you’re a slob. You’ve neglected to dust your place – [Rhett] for the last 11 years and now you are swimming in dust. – [Rhett] Well, here’s some news. Dusting burns 180 calories in an hour, – [Rhett] which means you could need to dust for 15 minutes to – [Link] Could need to dust. – [Rhett] You’d need to dust, – [Rhett] for 15 minutes to burn off the extra calories and the full fat Sargento string cheese. – [Rhett] Is it worth it? – [Link] 15 minutes. – [Rhett] 15 minutes of dusting. – [Link] Nobody wants to allocate time to dusting. Let’s eat this first. – [Link] And are we doing the thing, that, the proper. – [Rhett] First of all, I hate to point this out, but I’m going to – [Rhett] It’s a lot smaller. So not only, I mean, it’s not as big around. – [Link] We’ve uncovered it. – [Rhett] It’s shorter and it’s a different color. It’s a different color. – [Stevie] Yeah. But would you ever know any of those things – [Stevie] if you just had the light version? – [Rhett] This feels a little bit small. I’d be like, – [Rhett] I remember there being more flop on this thing. – [Link] That’s why you watch this show, because we know things. – [Rhett] I’ve eaten a lot of string cheese in my life. – [Rhett] It’s not bad. – [Link] I’m not picking up on anything that’s saddening to me. – [Rhett] It’s not as smooth, it’s harder. – [Link] You think it is? – [Link] See, we have to eat both, you know? – [Link] So, we’re going to have to dust no matter what. – [Rhett] Somebody’s got to do it. – [Link] The way that that just pulls off. – [Rhett] Oh, you can, like, smell the cheese as you bring it up to your face. – [Rhett] It’s so much better. Oh, man. – [Link] It’s softer. – [Rhett] Don’t get the real version. – [Link] It was okay. – [Rhett] Don’t get it because it’s too good. – [Rhett] You need to go at least three or four months without eating this. – [Rhett] To reset your barometer. – [Rhett] Your cheese barometer. – [Link] Why is this so much better? – [Rhett] It’s so much better, but I wasn’t completely displeased. – [Link] Yeah, but that’s because it’s still cheese. – [Rhett] But I know that it’s out there. No, this is not close enough. – [Rhett] It’s not close enough. I’ll dust for half an hour – [Rhett] Because I’m eating two of them. – [Link] It really is dramatically better. – [Rhett] All right. The low fat version, – [Rhett] Ugh, that’s rough. – [Link] Behold, Twizzlers, and this sad little zero sugar version of a Twizzler. – [Link] You can have four of these in a serving, though, – [Link] and then for 70 calories more and one Twizzler less, – [Link] you can eat the normal one. – [Link] Does that make sense to you? – [Rhett] Three Twizzlers. Four Twizzlers is a serving. – [Rhett] 70 calories more for the originals. – [Rhett] They’re much redder – [Link] The sugarized ones have that deep floppy red, – [Link] and the non sugar has this – [Rhett] They’re bright. I think they look better. – [Link] A magic standing rope. Okay, so it is more vibrant. – [Link] Oh, yeah. I got to read the thing. – [Rhett] Yeah, read the thing. – [Link] What better way to put your countless viewings – [Link] of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever to good use – [Link] than to sign up for your local talent show, – [Link] dancing disco burns 450 calories in an hour. – [Link] Which means you would have to do The Hustle – [Link] in front of your entire community for nine and a third minutes. – [Rhett] That’s a lot of embarrassment. – [Link] In order to burn the extra calories. – [Rhett] By yourself? Doing The Shuffle by yourself for 9 minutes? – [Link] The Hustle. The Hustle. – [Link] Are classic Twizzlers worth Hustling for nine and a third minutes. – [Link] Or is a zero sugar version good enough? – [Rhett] Not only are they a different color, – [Rhett] just like the string cheese, this one is shorter and it is not as thick. – [Rhett] So they use a completely different machine to make the healthy ones. – [Link] That tastes bad. – [Rhett] Why does it taste like a cleaner? – [Link] Because I’m about to mop up the floor doing The Hustle. – [Link] The Hustle, just so you all know, – [Link] I saw somebody do it once, it’s kind of like The Electric Slide. – [Link] You kind of go this way, then you go this way. – [Link] There’s actually none of this, you know? – [Link] This is like the type of disco that I want to do where the arm goes out, – [Link] but then The Hustle is like, you just do something like this. – [Link] It’s actually. – [Rhett] Pretty embarrassing. – [Link] Pretty embarrassing. – [Rhett] Yeah. – [Rhett] These are awful. – [Link] I’m so embarrassed. – [Link] Yeah, that’s bad. – [Rhett] There’s like a medicinal, what is in these things? – [Rhett] Sugar, alcohol? – [Rhett] Yes, sugar, alcohol. 15 grams. – [Link] Oh, that might make your – [Rhett] If you eat a lot of that – [Link] It might make you – [Rhett] You’ll be sharting all over yourself. – [Link] Cramp up and poop me a river, you know? – [Link] Like the Justin Timberlake song. – [Link] I could dance The Hustle to that, all the way to the restroom. – [Link] These are so floppy. – [Rhett] I think the issue for me is they taste horrible. – [Rhett] They’re too bright, it’s a little scary. – [Rhett] And that’s sugar, alcohol, I stay away from that stuff, man. – [Link] But this just in, Twizzlers also tastes like crap. Normal ones. – [Link] This is a lose-lose unless you’re really into eating plastic – [Rhett] I think this is for people who have already made a decision – [Rhett] that they want to eat Twizzlers. – [Rhett] I think you just nullified your opinion. – [Link] If you love Twizzlers. – [Rhett] I like Twizzlers. – [Rhett] Not as good as actual black licorice, but again, – [Rhett] the healthy version loses. – [Rhett] Twizzlers, zero sugar. – [Rhett] Ugh, that’s rough! – [Link] Do you want a dose of Good Mythical nostalgia? – [Link] Like back when Thursday meant mail. – [Link] Jen would come into a Good Mythical More and we would open the mail. – [Link] Well, Jen came back with some of our mail – [Link] and we put it on the Mythical Society. – [Link] You can be a first degree member, second or third degree member. – [Link] Go over there and watch it on the Mythical Society right now. – [Link] it’ll give you a warm fuzzy and if you like mail, well, we got it. – [Rhett] You’re really in for a treat if you like mail. – [Rhett] Okay, Pringles original versus reduced fat Pringles. – [Rhett] Now, this is actually a really, really close. – [Rhett] I mean, in fact, it almost seems like they just did it – [Rhett] so they could say that it was reduced fat. – [Link] It says 25% less fat, but then it says, then regular potato chips. – [Rhett] Let me put this into perspective. – [Rhett] 15 Pringles, 150 calories. – [Rhett] 15 reduced fat, 140 calories. – [Rhett] So this is actually really, really close. In fact – [Link] I’m feeling kind of screwed right now. – [Rhett] You get 13% of your saturated fat from regular Pringles – [Rhett] and you get 10%. So, I mean, we’re talking negligible things. – [Link] So you predict that they will not taste that different? – [Rhett] They should taste almost as good – [Rhett] because the health difference is not even really worth anything – [Rhett] other than just being able to say it’s a health difference. – [Link] But what is the scenario? – [Rhett] Oh, yes, I always forget about the scenario. – [Link] That’s the most important part. – [Rhett] Bad news. Your mom is currently live streaming on Facebook. – [Rhett] Badder news, she’s 7 hours in and doesn’t know how to stop. – [Rhett] So it’s up to you to text her through the end of it, – [Rhett] or text her through ending it, well, the end of the live stream. – [Rhett] Texting burns, one calorie every 90 seconds. – [Link] All that, so you can say texting. – [Rhett] That means you have to text your mom through this ordeal – [Rhett] for 15 minutes straight in order to, I mean, that’s not a lot of texting. – [Rhett] 15 minutes of texting your mom. – [Rhett] Dink it. – [Link] Sink it. – [Rhett] Just tastes like a Pringle. – [Link] The aftertaste is a little weird, I think. – [Link] But maybe that’s just because it’s a particulated potato product. – [Link] Maybe I just don’t like Pringles. – [Link] Maybe that’s what it is. – [Rhett] You made it clear that you don’t. – [Link] So, unless this tastes so much better, – [Link] this one’s actually got potato in it. – [Rhett] It certainly is better. – [Link] A lot more better. – [Link] If this one doesn’t get it, man, – [Link] we’re on a train to a Queen’s sweep of none of these being good enough. – [Link] I think this is the only one that might have a chance. – [Rhett] It’s good enough, man. This is clearly better and more better than I expected. – [Link] Because it’s still crunchy and salty, – [Link] you’re none the wiser. – [Rhett] Yeah, you have to do the side by side. – [Rhett] Without this one, you would be just like. I just, I would keep eating them, – [Rhett] and actually for 15 minutes of texting. – [Rhett] In fact, you know what? I don’t even know if the difference is enough to justify. – [Rhett] You’re already going to have 140 calories when you eat 15 of these – [Rhett] 10 calories? – [Rhett] I don’t have to text my mom at all. – [Rhett] You know, I’m saying? I can just let my mom just stay on the livestream forever. – [Rhett] I don’t care about that. – [Link] Do you still have to love her? – [Rhett] Well, I do love her. That’s why I’m letting her go free. – [Link] But you don’t, right. – [Link] But you don’t have to love her, which is kind of like what love is all about. – [Rhett] But listen, I think that if you want – [Link] Love is loving someone when you don’t have to. – [Rhett] Right. It’s right. It’s a choice – [Link] If you love someone because you have to, is that love at all? – [Rhett] Yeah. Love your mom. – [Stevie] Wait, when have you been forced to love someone – [Stevie] and then you actually love them because you’re forced by force? – [Link] Well, we read it right here. – [Rhett] My mom forces me to love her. – [Stevie] Oh, my God. – [Rhett] I love my mom. – [Rhett] And I’m going back on everything I just said. – [Rhett] I’m saying something has to be good enough. – [Link] This has got to be it. – [Link] Reduced fat Pringles. Good enough. – [Link] Now we’ve got Hershey’s Syrup versus Hershey’s Zero Sugar Syrup, – [Link] and there is a massive difference here. – [Link] We’re talking 1,415 calorie discrepancy. – [Rhett] 1,415. Yeah, nine times as many calories in the original. – [Rhett] So you’re actually making a huge cut if you’re using this stuff. – [Link] Okay. Before it melts, let me read this. – [Link] You’ve taken up frolfing. – [Rhett] Frothing? – [Link] That’s what all the cool cats call frisbee golf, – [Link] which burns 270 calories an hour. – [Link] It’s not that strenuous of an activity. – [Rhett] No, it’s mostly just casual conversation. – [Link] That means you’d have to look super cool playing frisbee golf for 8.9 minutes. – [Link] That’s hard to do. – [Link] In order to burn off the extra calories in the classic Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup. – [Link] Is sugarized syrup worth frisbee golfing for 8.9 minutes? – [Link] You know what? Let’s go nuts. Let’s just say 9 minutes. – [Rhett] What if you have to shuffle while doing it? – [Link] Shuffle what? – [Rhett] You know, you do The Shuffle while frisbee golfing. – [Link] Oh, The Hustle. You keep wanting to do The Shuffle. – [Rhett] Did I call it The Shuffle again? – [Link] You keep calling it The Shuffle. – [Link] Is zero sugar version good enough? Let’s start with that. – [Link] It’s all over the place. – [Rhett] I wish it was crackle. I wish it was magic shell. – [Link] It actually kind of looks like it’s behaving like. – [Rhett] That actually does look more like magic shell than regular. – [Rhett] Oh, gosh. – [Link] I want to get a little bit of it without the ice cream, – [Link] because the ice cream is good. – [Link] And the chocolate on the ice cream. – [Rhett] This is surprisingly not bad. There’s nothing off about it. – [Link] That’s because the ice cream is so good – [Link] and you’re going to eat it in something, so. – [Link] if you eat it on its own, it is very watery. – [Rhett] Sugar, alcohol, but only two grams, in a tablespoon. – [Rhett] So that does add up pretty fast, but somehow they disguise this flavor pretty well. – [Rhett] I got to say, I wouldn’t know I was eating something different. – [Link] And it does taste like specifically Hershey’s still. – [Link] Because you know it has that signature. – [Link] Oh this is, it’s gooey. – [Rhett] Big difference side by side once you taste it. – [Rhett] But again, if there’s nothing off-putting about your first bite, – [Rhett] that’s a lot. It goes a long way. – [Link] I’m gonna isolate this. The gooey, the syrupy. – [Rhett] Coming back in, going heavy syrup, – [Rhett] clearly a difference, especially when you come back. – [Rhett] Now you’re getting a little bit of that weird taste. – [Rhett] Don’t go back. – [Link] Do not ever go back. – [Rhett] Don’t switch. – [Link] Do not ever eat this on its own. – [Link] Put it on like the sugariest thing you can find. – [Link] And it does okay. – [Rhett] Because it’s such a huge difference. – [Rhett] I don’t know, man. I think it might be worth it. – [Link] I agree. – [Rhett] I think it’s worth 10 minutes of frisbee golf. – [Link] Hershey’s zero sugar, chocolate syrup. Good enough. – [Rhett] Look at that. We had such a turnaround there. – [Rhett] I didn’t think anything was going to be good enough. – [Link] Do not eat this on its own. – [Rhett] Yeah, yeah. We’re not telling you that you’re going to like it. – [Rhett] We’re just going to say that if you forget this exists, you’re going to be okay. – [Rhett] So, we’re saying that the zero sugar Hershey’s Syrup – [Rhett] and then the reduced fat Pringles are good enough. – [Rhett] That’s what we’ve done for you today. – [Link] Yes, and don’t say we didn’t do that for you today, – [Link] because that’s what we did for you. – [Rhett] Thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell. – [Link] You know what time it is – [Sarah] Hi, I’m Sarah from Chesterfield, UK – [Sarah] and I’m surrounded by my favorite food, which is cereal. – [Sarah] And it’s time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality – [Link] I get it, I totally get it. – [Rhett] Click the top link to watch us discover – [Rhett] what cereals are the sugariest and Good Mythical More. – [Link] And to find out where the Wheel of Mythicality is going to land. – [Link] Watch Mail With Jen on the Mythical Society – [Link] available to first, second and third degree. “
