I admit it I have an addiction to GPS let’s talk about that hi I’m Josh and I’m Chuck and I’m Noah from South Jersey good mythical morning good mythical morning this episode is brought to you by with the baster I want one of these because I’m always grilling and I need I need my stuff right here I’m a drinkin my thingy my other temperature thing and all that what is this here I’m gonna baste it don’t base that okay um okay it’s time for me to delve into my only addiction I only have one addiction well I guess I drink a lot of coffee I don’t know if I should well I guess we’ll save that for another episode but allow me to tell you a story to get into this realization that I think I have a problem with GPS you have a problem I certainly would welcome your comments if especially if you relate to me and that will help me feel better about this or if if you also share this addiction but since I do most of the driving for us business-wise well maybe it’s more of my problem so let’s see it was last weekend I was working downtown LA you were not there because you were working on something else that’s right analyst of the new taking an erection no so so I was there working all day I’m Witten it was a place down I hardly ever go downtown LA but you know I get there using my GPS stay there all day you know I’m farting on my phone just just like any good fiddle fart or will do and then I’m gonna get back into my car and leave late that night to come back home when a lot later than a thought so I’m leaving and then still got workers here you know things things continue to happen so I get back in the car and I set up my GPS on my because Google Maps I mean everybody knows you don’t use the Apple Mouse you have an iPhone you use the Google Maps Apple map you lost I turn that thing on and it now speaks to me through my through the the the the speakers in the car yeah right it’s great and I just set it up there on the dining female voice turn by turn makes me feel totally comfortable and secure in where I’m going and how long it’s gonna take me to get there I love it except when I look down and don’t gong-gong the red battery it’s flashing and telling me I’m going to die the red battery the red battery sign on my phone lashes it can’t what maybe it doesn’t fly she turns red and make it a little more dramatic than it really was it was oh and it’s a window some window says low battery I’m like I’m driving what about my car charger this is when you plug the cars I ain’t got one a damn man mmm you’re not prepared you took it out and put it in the Bronco that’s right and I thought I would have a car I was like dang it and uh you know that window pops up I thought it was a I thought it was gonna tell me to turn left or turn right but it said battery about to demise and I was like oh my crap I’m just I’m I’m leaving downtown I have no clue where I am but you’re like on a major road right I’m on it well it told me to like get on the 170 and it’s like I knew the 170 was kind of like related to the 101 and once I got on the one-on-one I kind of I would know where I was but I wasn’t there yet and it was dark and and I immediately started to panic and I just started thinking things like I have no clue where I am it’s dark I’m I might have to pull over to gas station and like charge my phone like that’s the first thing I thought get a map they played also maps anymore man it is everybody has these right the phone thing is no GPS they have maps but that’s the first thing I thought was I’m gonna have to I got to find a place to charge my phone it’s like because this is now my only way to get around or just head north I mean I started to think I’m just gonna have to pull over how warm are the clothes that I’m wearing how cold is it gonna get to me saying like you’re in Antartica here I couldn’t couldn’t call anybody because it’s my phone you have a problem but those are the things that I was thinking you know I I have a problem yeah you’re right now look I’m not gonna say that I don’t have a problem I am a member of the modern society I am dependent upon technology I am overly dependent on GPS technology I have tried to make a habit of once I know where I’m going to cut it off oh really yeah it’s like I’m like shut up girl you know like once I know I’m like shut up you know I just cut it off that’s what I do I would just my mind will wander to other things and I need that reminder you’re supposed to be turning left here you’re supposed to be turning right here and then it turns into I barely even him looking out the window like I might just drive with my eyes closed and I’m just following what she’s telling me to do you should have two things you should have three things you should have four things in your car five okay four let’s give it a board a lot of things you should have here’s what you should have in terms of this a phone with GPS you should have a charger you heard that there are two things you should have a map you should have a backup map a Rand McNally big old Atlas you remember the ones that we used to have I had one in the trunk I kept it in the trunk of because it was so big I can’t be in the trunk of the dynasty that I used to drive around yeah yeah yeah you were in that car a lot too and it was like this big and then you would open it up and it would be this big it was definitely you could not drive and use it at the same time because you couldn’t see out of the windshield you have to give it to somebody who would be reading it the Navigator you know you were the navigator yeah and so we had this big old map and it was a grid when you open up the front page you saw all of North Carolina divided into these square singles well they were basically rectangles because they were then a perfect they fit perfectly fit onto each that’s right and then you go through and this thing was so detailed down to the dirt roads we would like to see a creek mobility we should go get in that Creek and swim there’s a dirt road that goes to it I’ve got it on my map and we would get the map out yes we did we did that we would take your truck or the dynasty down there in it was basically for those of you who are young and don’t believe that these printed are antiquated things called maps and atlases existed Atlas I that lie it’s basically think of it like Google Earth but printed on a sheet of paper and like you know how you zoomed in on Google Earth and and things will get more detailed just it was like that except you just move your face closer yet let’s get your island and it wouldn’t get it wouldn’t get more detailed no more information pops up but there was a street view but what but when you but when you got to the edge of one you’d be like oh this huh and then you’re going off the atlas but then it what it wasn’t all it wasn’t organized it wasn’t like you go you go to the next page on the page yeah it’s like you go to the next page you’d be like Oh for oh god go back to the front oh they’re going from follow and I forgot to tell you there’s next part there is there’s no blue dot on an atlas that like moves and updates and tells you where you are on it you have to figure out where you are on this printed well I had a little cutout of myself like you you’d move it on there not in okay so that’s the second thing you need a map the third thing you need is a compass I think the radio pet has a compass on it the radio yeah it says sometimes it says in W E or s you mean that’s a compost dude update I think that’s up there on top of it I actually caught I found it out two days ago you know the radio radio but see that’s you’re still relying on technology you need something that is just dependent on magnetics you know you need like a compass and not the one on your phone because that’s on your phone and charge it everything go and then you need to no need to learn this is the fourth thing this is you in the car I need to learn how to navigate by the Sun and the stars like I can by doing this no you you it’s like a it’s it’s like learn sailor it’s like Lewis and Clark type stuff because listen if you’re if I’m not with you and you get lost you could die well that’s what I thought was gonna happen I didn’t finish the story but um you know spoiler alert my battery didn’t run out and I hit the one on one I was like I know where I am and I didn’t have to have the GPS so I don’t feel like I have that big of a problem because once I got on a road I knew I wasn’t panicking anymore and you know she was just she was just there well she didn’t die but then there’s another thing and first of all most of them me and Jessie’s as my wife Jessie most of our arguments are stemmed from this whole navigate I mean I remember my parents fighting over the map and they and they didn’t have the this map they had a map that folded up like it and you didn’t need a map until you went to Raleigh you know if you’re from Buies Creek yeah you know your way around Buies Creek Coates and Lily well sure but when you get to Raleigh you’re like I’ve gotta break out the map and then you got the break out the map and you got to fold it open and then you got to fold it open again and then BOOM my mom’s in the drivers my mom’s in the passenger seat my dad’s yelling at her cuz she can’t get the information out fast enough and then she’s folding it up wrong is I don’t fold it up like that and they’re gonna do it the right way yeah the old fold up the map argument but that’s the old technology now the new technology is there’s a phone my wife’s got the phone and we get into it’s just the wake you know it’s like there’s a third person there there’s a third woman there and she’s in the phone and she’s speaking to both of us but we disagree on how we should take her and your way or even what buttons to press to get her to cooperate it’s kind of like the how you fold it the map but now it’s like no you gotta press this button and no you got to turn the traffic on and then you’ve got a you gotta peel back this page digitally in order to turn the traffic on and then we should take a different route and you know so it technology changes but the arguments stay the same kinda is that kind of your point or is your point just I’m trying to look for that’s a better point than I have an addiction I’m trying to do that I’m trying to look for a way forward because I feel like every time my wife and I get in the car and we don’t know we’re going which is almost always in Los Angeles any place to use it’s a new place it just begins it begins an argument and I want to wait for maybe we should just go back to the map I think the answer is giving him a car charger back get your own car charger for the book oh yeah I could have been I could still be there right now just lost one saw shaker looking around what I mean even based you anyone have a map only kind of Maps they got in this town or star match shout out to Oregon or Oregon Oregon you’re the home of the most famous trail from 1985 computer games Oregon in your land no one can pump their own gas and Attendance got to do it for them what your official nut is the hazelnut and you’re the only state in the United States with an official nut and you’re the only state that starts with a note except for Oklahoma and Ohio you’re the only state that starts with an O R that is true
