Can we master the art of hobby horsing? Let’s talk about that. Good Mythical Morning. Now if you are nothing like us, but rather a healthy human being who isn’t chronically online, then maybe you haven’t heard of hobby horsing. It’s a pretty new sport in which competitors do all the things equestrian riders do on real horses, except they do it on one of these. That’s right. It’s not a real horse. Yeah. Uh, the toy that once powered cowboy or cowgirl dreams is now considered sports equipment. It all started in Finland. Hobby horsing has now captured the hearts of young people around the world. Frankly, we’re a little jealous. Please capture my heart, hobby horsing, pretty please. Saddle up, it’s time for, It’s Not a Hobby, It’s a Lifestyle, Hobby Horsing Edition. Welcome to the save a horse, ride a hobby horse zone. Okay boys, I see that the pants I laid out for you fit quite nicely. Yeah, snug. Thank you, Stevie. This is part of it, apparently. It is now. Today, you’re going to learn what it takes to be a competitive hobby horser. Here’s a clip of professional hobby horse athlete Ada Filppa to show you what that looks like. Yes. So, I was gonna say, after a moment, the human begins to disappear, but actually that didn’t ever happen. Yeah. Maybe it didn’t happen. Right, yeah, I was gonna say, I wanted it to become the horse, but I think this is more about you and the horse. Well, thankfully, you don’t have to just surmise from the video, because we have someone straight out of that video, and all the way from Finland, yes! It is Ada Filppa herself! Come on out! Welcome to the show! We just watched your thing! Oh, really? Cool. I’m here now. Thank you for flying in. All the way from Finland. A country that we don’t believe exists, so where are you actually from? Oh, not we. I am here now, so we’re actually doing this today. Yeah. Can you image that? You look like that. Yeah, we’re ready. We’re ready. But you’re saying Finland is a country. Yeah, Finland is a country I came from. Okay, who do we have here? Who is this? This is Ubi. Hello, Ubi. Ubi? Ubi. With R. My R is bad. Ruby. Ruby! Ruby. Ruby, Ruby, Ruby. Thanks for helping. Okay. Hello, Ruby. It’s got some jewels. – You asked to put… – Oh, can I touch your horse? It’s a hobby horse. So it’s fine? It’s not biting. Okay. – So… – Look at that bling. In your 11 hour flight, did you… Guys, do you go like tennis or get like, oh Tennis, look at your flight 11 hours. It’s a sport equipment. It’s not a horse. Oh. You can be rough. You can be rough with it. Did you just throw it in the overhead compartment? Oh, hey! Whoa! The hobby horse community is gonna be so upset with you, Ada. I know. They are already. What are we going to learn today? We’re gonna learn the basic things with thresholds, which is more like dancing and gymnastics kind of thing, how you look like. Easy. Easy. And then we’re gonna have show jumping, so we’re jumping over obstacles. I see this thing, and this does not scream easy. All right, let’s get to it. What you want us to do first? So, Ada, what, um, we need Rhett and Link to pick out their hobby horses back there at the stable. Uh, what would you suggest for each of them as they’re looking at the horses to gravitate? Let’s get a closer look. Okay, so, I think in hobby horsing world, it’s kind of nice that you can pick up by yourself which kind of horse you want. So you can choose your favorite if it’s kind of like calling your name. But one most important thing is we have like long reins. You need them in some point. Okay. This one has no teeth, so I like that. So this one has the longer rein, and it has a braided Wow! Braided rat tail. So that will be very clear to work with the rein. Oh. I think you’re zeroing in on this one, Link. The only other one that has reins. Yeah, reins. But this one has a rein. – Not long enough. – It’s too short. Oh, oh. Yeah. Well, I gotta take the toothless one? All right. Yeah. Well, so is mine. All right. Here we go. I name this one, uh, uh, Urgent Fax. Okay, that’s fine. It’s kind of like Shadow Facts. from Lord of the Rings, but more modern. But not really that modern, because it’s still just like you’re sending an urgent fax. Okay, I didn’t know we were… I don’t understand. I didn’t know we were naming our horses. Uh, but I’m gonna call this one… William O’Donnell O’Connell Darryl… Yvonne. Which is an acronym for Woody. First things first, we have three things we can move. Walk, trot and canter. And walk is basically when we’re walking, so we can just walk. Oh! Yeah? So the idea is that you’re using your whole leg and your ankles, and you want to look like horse walk. And you have to point your two toes. Good! Okay! Hello guys! Hello! That’s worked really well. Use your back, here. Is he doing it right? No, that’s better. That’s better, that’s good. And then try to walk, not moonwalk. Actually walk? Actually, like, walk. Okay, we’re looking great, guys. I don’t see his stick sticking out the back very much. – Well, I don’t have it so long. – Is it supposed to? Like that? How about now, big boy? How much is the, how much is the stick supposed to stick out the back? There is no rule for that. You wanna be able to grab it? There’s no rule for that! That’s not a rule for that. Okay, then trotting. Trotting. So, it’s kinda like we’re jogging or running around. Basically. A little skip? You just, you just. Oh! Whoa! So bouncy! Why do they have actually so good movement in their legs? Is that because they’re leggings? We’re watching you! That’s great! We’re in sync. They’re actually doing that really great. Yeah, yeah, yeah, look at you. We’re good learners. What? That’s good, good job. We just pleased our coach for the first time, maybe the last. Okay, let’s move on. Canter or gallop, so it’s basically like a Oh, a little skippy. Like a skippy, yeah. A little skippy. Just try it. Now, Yes. Yes. Faster, Link, faster. Faster. – Try to go a bit faster. – Faster! Faster! Faster! Okay, great job! We have a canter! It was good, but this was like, a level of nine years old. So now we’re going next step, okay? That’s right! So, next, we’re gonna do Passats and Piaf. And they are very, very collective trots. So Passats is like you move very, very little, and Piaf is when you stop. And you’re gonna wanna, um, have your leg up in a 90 degrees, and you change that. So, it’s gonna be bouncy, and very in the place. Oh, oh, yeah, I saw the Olympics. I saw the Olympics. Oh, oh, there it is. And there you go. Whoo! – So let’s try it, guys. – I’m out of breath. I’m out of breath just watching. Yeah, yeah. I’m gonna start here. Okay, you’re gonna start there. I’m gonna be right behind you. Right behind you. And up, down, and a return. Backwards? Actually pretty great. And now, we’re doing canter pirouette. Canter pirouette. Canter pirouette. You’ve been seeing this, maybe Olympics if you’ve been watching them. You canter, you crawl, and you stop, and you’re doing 360 around you. You have to stay very in the same place, so it can’t happen. Everywhere. Yep, can’t be. Or going like… Right, right, right. That was cool. But like slowly. Step by step around. You first, Rhett. Spin move, I call it. Get out there. Okay… Very steady. Yeah! Okay! Is the knee high enough? Yeah, that’s good. Now it’s a double. Piaf and Pirouette at the same time. And you see how I made eye contact. That’s cool. – I love that. – Cause I was thinking about… – I’m thinking about TV, you know? – You can always trot Yeah. There should be a broom on the other end. And cleaning at the same time? Yep, yep, yep. Yeah, I want to see when you’re doing that, when you jump. Oh. Ooh. So we brought this jump out here, but I just can’t I think it’s a limbo bar. I’m not loving this. Yep, yep, right over there. Maybe, you know what, I’d like to see you do this first. I assume you’re going to show us how to do it. Okay. No reason not to start down there, right? I like that idea better. That’s good. Okay. Okay, so, you canter, you have to canter, the canter-run with both hands in the reins, and just jump over. Oh! That’s simple, Rhett. Simple. Piece of cake. Piece of cake. Let’s see. – Yep. – Here he comes. He’s cantering. He’s cantering, and he’s jumping over one foot. And floating in a charge. Yeah, you see that at the end, Link? Yeah. Okay, and the stick have to be between legs. Get that stick out. I wanna see that stick come out the back. Yeah, there we go. There we go. There we go. Little, he’s a little stilted. And… Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. Oh, she’s scared. Oh. Yeah, yeah. Come on, Urgent Fax. You can do this. You’ve done this before. I know there’s so many people watching. Oh, that’s good. Here we go. Here we go. Whoo! Wow. Great job, guys. I did it. What do you think about his boots? Boots? Really handy. I will never ride with them. Oh, you wouldn’t? No. Yeah, well I thought this was a cowboy thing. I brought my cowboy hat. Okay, that’s cool. You can be a cowboy. Yeah, do that. – Yeah. – All right. That’s cool. Okay, maybe we put a little bit higher. Should we? How high can you go? I can go this if we’re a little bit warm up. But. So you have to have a little bit of like a running start maybe for that. Yeah, yeah. Hold on. You just said you could jump. With a warm up, you can go four feet? Excuse me. Okay. I can jump that, like, two times in a row. I’m allergic to hobby horses. That’s sad. Yeah. Well, then, where do you wanna go, then? Yeah, let’s get more interesting here. Yeah. Yeah, we can go there. Okay, guys, are you ready for that? Yeah. Yeah, okay, let’s do it, then. I love the attitude. All right, you go first. We’ll follow your lead. Okay, same thing. Canter. You need a little bit speed, and you go, and jump. Huh, that’s easy. For her. But now, I can give you a little tip. Yeah. Take the head a bit up here. Take the head up, take the head up, horse head up. Oh, gosh! Yes. Good job, good job. You need the speed, so try canter it forward. Hey, it, hey, it sneaks up on you. Whoa, baby! It sneaks up on you, let me tell you right now, it sneaks up on you. Howdy how! Whoa! Your horse, your horse hit the wood. – The end of my stick hit the top of… – Your stick hit the wood. I think I made it! Alright, try again. Ready for the next one? Try again, tall boy. Take the horse’s head a bit up. Horse’s head up, she says. Take the horse’s head up, so it’s easier to jump. No, no movement. Oh! God! Holy crap! I mean that, I think you could do, I think you could do three. You need the speed. Speed! Speed is what you need. Speed is what you need. Now we’re cantering! Now we’re happening something. Good try. Good try. – Okay. – Alright. Three, three feet. Okay. That’s too high. No, it’s not. – I can’t do that. – You can do it. I think you can do it. You can do it. Take the horse’s head a bit up. Now you’re being so stick, showing your stick from your bum. But actually we want a bit here high because Oh, you don’t like that. No, because that’s not really help you. Okay. So you want it up here. Got it. So when you’re coming to jump, you’re coming kinda countering here. So if it is down here, it’s gonna knock you down. So when you’re coming here, it’s up here. So you can jump actually up and keep it there. But you’re gonna do well. You’re doing well. Can we see? Ada, can you demonstrate this one? I was afraid to ask, honestly. She’s a world champion, man. Oh! It’s kind of small. It’s kind of small. You have to turn a little bit. Did you see that left leg? What she did with the left leg? Yeah, it kind of came out sideways. Out. Which, that was fun. It’s happening in small spaces. Yep. I didn’t, we didn’t know you could do that. Now that we do, we’re gonna dominate. Here we go! Take the speed. Here he comes. He’s running the last turn. Horse’s head up. Good save! Good save! Good save! Good job. You got it, man. You got it. You got it. Do you have this? I believe in you, man. You got it. He’s shaking. Yeah, he’s nervous. It’s okay, it’s okay. Alright, here we go. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. You got it, you got it! Ow! Okay, well. It looks like we don’t jump anymore. We, uh, well we lost a few. We lost a few. Well, I just gotta tell ya, every man has his limits. And we just found Link’s. Okay, okay. You, I think, in a way, in a way, Link, it was a performance of its own, I would say. I think that you’re both ready to, to really show us your routines, but we haven’t even seen what a routine looks like. So, um, Ada, will you… Well, you can only, uh, use a certain amount of the jumps, because some of them are broken. Uh, but will you show Rhett and Link, uh, a routine so that they can start thinking about what theirs might look like? Yeah. Show us what you got! She’s at three and a half now. Can do a little canter period. Like turning… and we can turn here. Trot. Oh snap! Right on the beat. Yes. And the passat and piaf. And then warming up the jump. Oh, here we go. Is she going for the jump? She’s going for the jump. She’s getting back. Oh! It. was close. That was close. This is a small space. Not today! You wanna do a three and a half? I mean a three? Three and a half. That’s fine. I will leave it. Oh. Okay. She’s going for the jump. Oh my goodness! There we go. What?! Oh my goodness! – What?! – That was crazy! That was crazy! Uh, yeah, we ain’t gonna be doing that. And Rhett, you’re gonna go first, I hope. Okay, so yeah, so, um, now that you see what a routine looks like, you’re each gonna do your own, Rhett’s gonna go first, and we’re actually gonna give you some themes to play around with here. So, Rhett, your theme is Night at the Opera. Ooh! Okay, Night at the Opera. You got this. He’s starting with a, a canter. The face work is very impressive. Oh, and the comb work. Very impressive. He’s approaching his jump. He can’t decide if he really wants to do it or not. Okay, okay, and he’s over. No, he’s not. He’s not over. He’s back. He’s over. No, he’s not. What’s gonna happen? He’s in the limbo. And I don’t mean under the pole. Wow. Any notes? That’s pretty amazing. Pretty. Your personality. You’ve seen that before with a… Yeah? The straddle? Yeah. That was very straddle. Okay. But like It was very what? – It was very straddly. – Straddle. Alright, I’m ready to get my assignment, Stevie. Your theme is very similar. It is Truffle pig on the Hunt. Truffle pig on the Hunt? You the truffle pig, man. Okay. Uh, and did you say make it sexy? Yeah. Did I hear you say? She did. It was implied. It was implied. Alright, before I do that, I do want to let you know that to get in the Thanksgiving spirit, we are releasing marathons on the Mythical 24/7 channel. Do you know what this is? Yes. Oh yeah, that is the exit. Should I go or? Should I go or you? No, you. Yeah. Ada, before you determine which one of us won this hobby horse competition today. It’s a competition? Yeah, it is. Um, we actually have some ideas for how we can take hobby horsing up a couple of notches. Okay. That we would like you to take into consideration before determining a winner, okay? Um, interesting. We have some, uh, help that we need for our demonstration. Chase? Oh, hello. Barbara. Hey, baby. How you doing? I’m talking to you, Chase. Oh, hey, baby. Hey, baby, how you doing? Alright assume the position Music, please! I’m just trying… Look at my girl go! Don’t worry, Chase. Hey, look at my girl go! Ha, give him another neigh! Neigh! Oh, oh, oh! Oh! Overall, not just the final round. Because the cuteness of the dog, can’t, can’t, you can’t weigh that too heavily. No offense, Chase. Chase is pretty cute. Thanks! It’s been really tough today. I’ve been seeing a lot. A lot today. But, well, like I said, it’s been tough. It’s very good. Very cool. There was more like hobby hosing. There was more like maybe new business? New business. Maybe new business? For the mens? For the mens? What about the women? Yeah. For the women? Yeah, you’ll learn someday. I’m leaving this completely up to you. I’m putting here. There it goes. We did it, Woody! – There was hobby horse all the time. – We did it! William O’Donnell O’Connell Daryl Yvonne! Really good. Thank you. Really good job. Thank you so much.
