GMM 2826: We Tried Every Protein Powder

Today we’re tasting every Ghost protein powder. Let’s talk about that Good Mythical Morning! People know that protein powder equals swole, but a lot of times it does not equal tasty. And in a market flooded with options. Some companies have gotten a little extra creative with their protein flavor game in order to draw you in. Mm-hmm. And the company that’s standing ahead and beefy, shoulders above the rest and the flavors department is Ghost. Look at this. Nutter Butter. I mean, I got, I got a Cinnabon version here. Not a sponsor, but we are intrigued by some of their very surprising flavors that they formulated. So much so we just have to try every single one. It’s time for Gut Check Ghost Protein Powder Edition. Okay boys, we’ve got Ghost post-workout protein powder flavors mixed with water for you to taste and decide which is the best of the best. And we ask for ’em to be mixed with water. Some people they, they swear by either the oat milk or something else, but- I think a real test of a protein powder is what it taste. Just the water. taste like with, uh, water. That’s right. And then, um, I have a nice little scoring guide here. Look at how swole I get at 100, man. Would you want me to be the big boy on campus? Nah, I don’t think so. You want, I think I want to be like 50 right now. I might be 30. When people get swole, a lot of times they’re not as funny. Remember what happened to Dane Cook? He got less funny? I never, I don’t really know Dane. I don’t know his work really. Uh, this is my scoring aid. Oh. Those are, those have numbers on ’em. 19. And they have protein on them. Okay, in case you need a palate cleanser for all the protein powder you’re about to consume, we have some delicious water sourced from the water fountain of our nearest local gym. Your first category is whey protein flavors, starting with milk chocolate. Alright. Keep it simple. That’s legitimately good. It’s very milky with its chocolatiness. I never just do this straight – I always just put the protein powder into a shake with other things. Yeah. I can do this on its own. It’s definitely not bad. I’m gonna give it a 70. You know what I’m gonna give it a 72. What? 70, comma, 2. Oh? Also? 70 also. Yeah. That was the little joke. Okay. Coffee Ice Cream. Oh! Coffee flavor is tough to do. It can taste a little fakey as this does. It does, but it’s also that ice creamy fakeness, but it’s not, I, it’s not bad. 63. I don’t like it. I’m going down to 39 for this one. Cereal milk. Ooh. What kind of milk is it? There’s a lot to live up to here. I meant what kind of cereal? Um, what would you call that cereal? It’s a little fruity. I’m, I’m gonna go 55 on it. I like it. 58. Fruity Cereal Milk. Oh, well you could have said that earlier cause this is the – This is the fruity one apparently. Okay. We’ve reached something that I definitively dislike. This is supposed to taste like Trix. Yeah, that or Froot Loops. It’s way too strong. 18. And when I breathe outta my nose, it’s like am I getting fruit nose? No. Wait, 19. I don’t want to get no fruit nose. 15 Marshmallow Cereal Milk. But I had? Oh, there’s real marshmallows. Oh. Turn it up now. They’ve, they’ve reduced whatever sweeteners in the actual thing because they’re relying on the marshmallows, which is a gross little surprise. I don’t Yeah, that was, I worked way too hard for that. 22 for me. Whatever that was that I gave 22 too. 14 for me. Peanut Butter Cereal Milk. Cereal milk still? Peanut butter cereal? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm mm mm mm. You know, there are times where I begin to think that maybe we should just feed ourselves. But we shall not break tradition! I wanted to like this. It’s very fluffy. It thought, ah – I wanted to like it. You heard it here. The peanut butter boys! What’s wrong with it? 38. I never like peanut butter flavored protein, though. 33. Chips Ahoy. Okay. I, I need to, I need to, Okay. Well, there’s something hard in there. There was a hard inclusion. Was it a piece of cookie? I think it might have been, yeah. Is there any of mine? Oh. Get a piece of that crispy cookie. Okay. Oh, mm-hmm. I kind of forgot what it tastes like. Can I ask some more? It tastes like a completely sogged out Chops ahoy cookie. Chops ahoy. I’m gonna give it an 80. An 80? Yeah! It’s good. It’s very authentic and the fact that it’s just water in it and not milk. If you want to dare go with some sort of milk or milk substitute, that might be your dessert. I’m gonna go with a 60 on that. Cinnabon. Highlighted at the top. Mmmm. Very cinnamon-y. Woo. You gotta like cinnamon. Lemme tell you right now. Is it too cinnamon? You gotta like cinnamon. It’s not enough bun. Uh, 44. I’m pretty impressed with it. 69. Oreo. Okay, now this is hard to mess Chips Ahoy they did great. I bet you they’ll do better with this. Hmm. It tasted like there was a bit of Oreo in it, but I think that’s fake Oreo. But it has a, um It’s not nearly as good as the Chips Ahoy. It’s not good. I don’t, I, I want to like this. I just, I always end up just going with chocolate, like every time I’ve ever tried this kind of thing. I always go with vanilla, Really? Because it’s a good base for other flavors to be added, which can include peanut butter. Chocolate can also accommodate peanut butter. I put chocolate and I know. peanut butter in my, uh, in my shake every morning. I’m gonna go with a nice 41 for that one. 32. That was generous too. Oreo Mint. Okay. Mint translates really really well into lots of things because it doesn’t have any calories. You know what I’m saying? So mint doesn’t have to be compromised in any way to be added as a flavor. Oh, Hmm. That’s, that’s something. And I actually think that it significantly improved that one. That’s gonna be, that’s gonna be a 71 for me. I’m going down to 30. I just don’t, I don’t want mint in a decadent shake. Nutter Butter. Alright. We’re fans. I was excited about this. It’s got pieces of Nutter Butter in it. I need more, I need to know what’s happening in my mouth. Something weird has happened. It’s- Did you get the little pieces? Yeah, I got the little pieces too. And it’s, it’s, I think I like this. But you don’t know. No, it took me a second to get the mint out of my mouth. It’s messing me up, man. I don’t know. I’m disappointed in it. I think I’m taking this one home. Really? Yeah. Well, gimme another taste. My boy over here is trying to, trying to like it. Well, I don’t want you to take it home. You don’t have to like it. I’m thinking if I’m gonna just have protein powder in straight up water, like as a additional like protein thing. That can make it interesting for me. 75. I’m gonna give it a 50. It’s just not wowing me. The peanut butter taste is- That concludes the Whey Protein flavors category. Our next category is It’s about to get worse. vegan protein flavors. Mm-mm. It’s about to get bad Starting with Banana Pancake Batter. Okay. Hmm. Thick and grainy. That banana is strong. That banana flavor, Can you taste the pea protein? It’s fake. At first it hits you and you’re like, yeah, banana [coughs] But then- The graininess is hard to take. What happens? The longer I think about it, the more it keeps going down the scale. And I better give a score quick or it’s gonna go down to zero. Um, 38. I’ll let fate decide this one. 34. Chocolate Cereal Milk. Okay. It is better than the first one. It’s, it’s so weird tasting though. It’s just the vegan, the vegan-ness of it. Well, I know but I can’t I can’t overlook it. Yeah, I know. I mean, it’s just patently bad. I like it more than I don’t like it in terms of You have to acquire it as a taste that you’ve never had before. 52. 33. Peanut Butter Cereal Milk. Alright. But we’re veganing it. Hmm. Wow. Tastes like I got into like, something, some standing water on a construction site. Pea protein and Something bland. Grainy. and Quikrete. Uh, 12. Did I give a score? Mm-mm. Um, 20. Cinnabon. Cinnabon Vee-gon. Woo, they’re so thick That cinnamon’s back. Cinnamon’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting now though. You’re going too hard with the Cinnabon. Yvonne, man, the cinnamon, It’s almost rescuing this one in particular though, I will say that. This might put me above a 50. 47. 48. That concludes the vegan protein flavors category. You have now tasted every flavor of Ghost post-workout protein powder, and your scores will be tabulated. You ever wonder to yourself what happens here on the weekend? Now the overall top five flavors in no particular order were Chips Ahoy, Nutter Butter Milk Chocolate, Cereal Milk Cinnabon. Cereal Milk and Cinnabon. I mean, these are, these are all some strong contenders. Seeing them in uh, cup form. Yeah. Not appetizing. Yeah. That kind of messes up. That’s why you put ’em in that opaque shaker bottle and drink them. I think milk chocolate I want to taste that last. I want to go I really wanted to like Nutter Butter Can I give you my bias? Yeah. Nothing’s gonna beat chocolate. That’s why I wanna wait on chocolate. Right. ’cause I wanna see if it’s better after tasting the other ones. Okay, so you want to, Let’s go with Cereal Milk first right there, because it’s a little subtle. There was no vanilla in the entire lineup, which is interesting to me. This is the closest to vanilla because it’s kind of, I think that’s why we put it here. Um, I’m liking this quite a bit right now. Yeah. And then we know that the Cinnabon The cinnamon is too strong. Even before I taste it, I’m smelling it. It’s too much. It’s only here ’cause you gave it still a pretty high score. Yep. So we’re gonna get rid of it. The ratio is off. Coming back to Chips Ahoy, which you really liked. I really liked it, man. Alright, well I’m giving it another chance here. It’s accurate. It’s one of the most accurate ones. It is. I still, there’s still a fakey taste to it that I don’t like as much as the cereal milk. I understand. Nutter Butter Nutter Butter with the little, little, all the little globules. Mm-hmm. It’s got a big fakiness up top. It does. A lot bigger than the Chips Ahoy And where’s the peanut butter taste? It’s a Nutter Butter taste. Cereal Milk is way better though. It’s way better than both of these. Yeah, but I’m saying Chips Ahoy is better than the Nutter Butter because the Nutter Butter leaves with this weirdness. ‘Cause we’re basically deciding third, assuming we’re gonna love the chocolate. I mean, I’ll take Nutter Butter home with me. You can, you can put um, you can, you can get Chips Ahoy into the bronze position. Okay. But let’s make sure that chocolate doesn’t suck. Oh, I didn’t, I’m not saying that I think chocolate milk is gonna win it. This chocolate’s gonna make. But it is. It’s just the best. You know, it just keeps you coming back. I mean, I’m almost tempted to put Cereal Milk there because I’m such a vanilla fan. It is good. But we’re not gonna do it. I’m sorry. You’ve experimented in all these ways and your boys are gonna just tell you right now, the Supreme, So-Keen Protein is Chocolate. Look at his arms and look, I think he’s got I think he’s got the king hat too. Which is a crown. Yeah. Yeah, buddy. Do your flexing for us. There we go. And I might take the Cereal Milk home if you’re taking something home. I want to take something home. Yeah, take something home. Makes you feel like you did something today. Alright.
