GMM 579: 6 Snacks That Should Be Brought Back

There are things that have been taken from us and we want them back. Let’s talk about that. ♪ (theme music) ♪ Goooood Mythical Morning! One of the inevitable parts of the human experience as it is experienced in the – modern world, Link and Mythical Beasts, – Mmhmm. is that products come and products go. If you latch onto one of those products, specifically a food product or a foodstuff, – It’s liable to be taken from you. – It can be taken and it can have negative effects on your life. We’re gonna talk about some of the ones that we enjoyed in the past that we would like to be brought back into the future– or the present, really, but the future… but it will be present when it’s brought – back and we’re experiencing it. – Can I take you back to 1987 right now? – Yes! – The first thing that I wanna bring back is the Hi-C juice box, the particular flavor known as Ecto Cooler. Now, this is associated with the real Ghostbusters animated series in 1987. – I recall that. – It had Slimer on the box. – It was like drinking Slimer! – I never thought of it like that. I thought it was what Slimer wanted me to drink. It tasted so good. No, it was just– you know, Slimer left slime everywhere… – And if you wanted to drink some of that… – They boxed it up. They also sold it in a metal can. The interesting thing was, this was around until 1997, so for ten years they sold this Ecto Cooler, ’cause it was so good! They didn’t get rid of it in 2001. What they did was, they changed the name to – Shoutin’ Orange Tangergreen…? – Oh, Tangergreen, yeah. Tangergreen. So they got rid of Slimer but they kept the thing. Then in 2006 they – re-renamed it to Crazy Citrus Cooler. – That’s when I got into it. – Then in 2007 they discontinued that. – They got crazy. So bring it back all the way. Ghostbusters 3 is coming back. I think there’s gonna be– it’s a girl version. They could bring a girl Slimer – and have an Ecto Cooler. – Sure. I remember this specifically being at your house and only drinking it at your house. But what I don’t remember at your house, which really surprises me, is the next thing on the list: PB Max. The best way to re-introduce you to this is to show you the original commercial. Okay. (narrator) Just what is the “PB” in new PB Max? PB don’t mean “Pineapple Beanie,” “Pet Barracuda,” or “Parachuting Buffalo.” PB don’t mean “Prehistoric Barber” or – “Pig Basketball.” – (Rhett, southern accent) Pig basketball. (narrator) PB means “Peanut Butter.” Lots of real peanut butter and pure milk chocolate – and the crunch of a whole-grain cookie. – (Rhett) Yeah. Look at that, Link. – It’s got your name written all over it. – (narrator) Now that’s maximum satisfaction. (narrator) Even if you’re as mean as the Pottstown Barbarian, you’ll be – (narrator) pleased at one powerful bite. – (Link) The who? – (Rhett) The Pottsdown Barbarian. – (narrator) PB Max. We mean peanut butter. – (Link) What? – You know, the Pottstown Barbarian. – I can’t believe I never had that. – That’s my uncle doing that voice over. (southern accent) I never saw that ad, too. – Yeah. – PB don’t mean… this that and the other. – (southern accent) Pet Barracuda. – (laughs) (normally) We had these. I gotta have it back, man! It’s just waiting to go into my mouth. Please… back. Please… I’m trying to make “PB” be a… – Please back the PB Max. – (laughs) All right, I got another one here. Now, this was a cereal– you know – I’m a cereal lover. – Yep. So kind of a snack, but kind of a cereal too. When I went down memory lane, what came into my mind was Planters Cheez Balls. They were discontinued in 2006. I didn’t know they went away, but now that I know that they’re gone, I want ’em back. You can get cheese balls from other places, – But not Planters! – but can you get cheese balls in a container that (pop) pops off like that? We can actually bring this one back. If you watch Good Mythical More, the show after the show, you may know that recently we were reminiscing about the times we used to go down into sewers as children– – that’s something that we did, yes– – Long story. We started talking about the fact that we would go to the Short Stop, the local convenience store, and get these Clearly Canadian drinks during the hot – North Carolina summers. – Yeah, it was a big treat. – It wasn’t like just getting a soft drink. – It was a step above. It was like, are we gonna get the blackberry Clearly Canadian today? – Yeah. – That was so special. And then we were like, you know what? Let’s just go to the website– ’cause were telling the crew about it– and we pull up the website and realize – that they have a campaign going – Yep. right now where they have the tools in place to bring it back into production – Right. – if enough people pre-order – Clearly Canadian. – I think there are over 9,000 cases right now, but if they get to 25,000 cases pre-sold, they’re gonna then charge everybody’s credit cards and bring the product back. So it kind of blew our mind that we were just reminiscing about it and then, lo and behold, it’s actually happening. We just talked about it. You can see the moment as we realized in Good Mythical More. Guys! Guys! This is crazy. Look! They aren’t making it yet! “Help us bring back the original Clearly Canadian by pre-ordering a case!” – Ohh. – They gotta get to 25,000 cases to bring it back and they’re currently at 8,200. This is fate, guys! What?! – We post that a few weeks ago – Right. and then we hear from the CEO of Clearly Canadian. He contacts us. Basically, we are now saying… he said, “I wanna commission you guys to get the Mythical Beasts to bring this back.” Because they’ve been doing the campaign for a few months now and it’s been moving pretty slowly, right? – It needs an injection to get to 25,000. – And we said, this is a great opportunity. We did the Hashtag GMM War before on Twitter where we enlisted all you guys to help us with that, and we think this is a fun thing just like that where we will be able to say, as Mythical Beasts, that we actually brought a product from our childhood back, and maybe your childhood too.
