You said it seemed a little bit smaller in here than you than you thought. Just a little. Yeah. But but we seemed a little bit bigger than you expected. Yeah, that’s actually a good point. Yeah, that’s right. Now, are are you qualified in any way to help us figure out which of these novelty pens is worth purchasing and I guess pinning with? I think so. Yeah. Are you are you a journaler, a writer, not? Um, I’m a noter. Not a like an avid journal person, but I do prove it. Oh, what do I prove? Take notes of what? You know, just your experience of of the meetings. The place is a little bit smaller than I thought. They’re bigger. It like shocked me. You gave her the one that shocked me. I got you right from the beginning. Got her. It It must not have um shocked you that bad, right? No, it’s not bad, but you didn’t react at all. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I tried both of them. I was wondering if it was a, you know, a skill issue and then I realized it was the pen. Yeah. It’s I kind of I kind of like it. Ah, okay. Um, doesn’t do much though. Yeah. So, this is a trick pen. I didn’t know it. I didn’t know that was gonna happen. You want to do it again? No. That You want to do it again? Let’s write with this one. Okay. This is the one that actually writes. Okay. This is a pen multi-tool. I’m not surprised at all uh hearing Maya’s story. She is extremely brave um in facing all types of trials. So, pushing the button on a pen and getting a little bit of a shot. Child’s play. Is child’s play, right? Okay. How does that one write? What should I write? Just take notes on the meaning. Well, the other day and uh Hello. Hello. I don’t know. Well, Link and I were talking about writing because this is if if I was ever going to talk about what I’m going to talk about today, and this was not planned. It is now because I have I’m really getting into pens because I’ve been getting into note takingaking and taking lots of notes. I’ve got That’s interesting. I’ve got notes. When are you taking the notes? You keep them in your pocket. Well, so my I have a Look at that. My wallet has little field notes in it. Right? So, this is where this is my pocket notebook. I’m not I’m listen this is this has been a big thing for me. It’s been very helpful to me. You can live your life however you want to. Note-taking has been the best thing that happened to me in 2024 25. So, like what are you making notes? Um I go through so I go through one there’s 48 pages and I go through one of these in about a month or so. Sometimes two weeks, sometimes you’re still not answering the question that I’m asking. Any thought that I have about anything? So it might Okay. So like instead of the notes app on your phone, you will write it on your phone. I can answer your question. Frequently when he’s talking to me, he’ll just he’ll pull it out. He’ll just start writing. He’ll pages and pages of writing while I’m talking. He’s just like writing down your conversation because you’re so interested. Yeah. little space pen writes anywhere. His mind just blossoms. And I’m not going to go into I’m not going to go into a I’m just going to tell you that it is uh definitely been scientifically shown that taking notes physical notes is much better for memory retention and processing than doing it on your notes after. But when you say notes, you’re talking about like ideas that you have. Because when you say you you take notes, typically that means like you are listening to Link when he’s talking and you’re taking notes of what he’s saying. But I know you’re not doing that. No. Yeah. Well, if he would say things that were noteworthy, then I No. So, it’ll be it’s just like, oh, I have a thought maybe in the middle of the night. Oh, maybe the first thing I think of when I wake up or if I’m out. But now, what I started doing is I upgraded to having another notebook that’s more like comfortable to write in. that it’s like, okay, I’m going to do longer notes right now. And then all of a sudden, I’m going to the Blick art materials to get this thing. And then I see the fountain pen section and now I’m then I go on fountain pen YouTube. Now my whole world is exploding. Yeah. So what is that? So people you just watch people writing with No. So do you like the novelty of just having the fancy pen or It is. So, what I noticed is that taking all these notes, my hand started cramping up. And so, I started doing research about what’s going on with my hand. And they’re like, “Oh, if you write a lot, you should have a fountain pen.” I was like, I didn’t I thought a fountain pen was like something they like signed the Constitution with. I don’t I didn’t understand the nature of it. So, it’s basically it’s a better writing experience because you don’t have to press as hard because the ink is flowing unlike a ballpoint where you’re like it’s got that little pointy scoop at the end. So, this is all leading somewhere very interesting. if you’re like the 4% of people who care about this. Uh, which by the way, like so I found the whole EDC YouTube, which is everyday carry. Yeah, Jake knows what I’m talking about. So, this is like a bunch of dudes who are like, “These are the notebooks you should have, and this is the satchel. I’m going to have a satchel.” Yes, I’m going to have a man purse. Just get ready. Um, and notebooks and stationery and all this stuff. And I know that your wife is into this. you, your wife and I tend to have the same like interest and tastes which is which I find interesting. Yeah, you both like having me around. And so I’m on a I’m texting your wife now about the pens that I’m into and she’s telling me about the journals that she’s into. But that that’s as far as this EDC situation is men only. Uh well, it’s a men only. There’s a lot of women doing it, but I’m just saying that like most of the videos that come up is like a pretty nerdy dude talking about pens and stuff. I’m just saying that’s my experience. Um, that all leads to this pen, the Lammy uh Safari pen. Okay. Yeah. See, I got one. This is like a $30 pen at Blick Art Materials. Gracious. Now, what I found is I got this thing and then I started writing with it and then as soon as I gripped it because it has this triangular grip on it that is like grip that pen and just Oh, that’s nice. You have a perfect grip. Really? Yeah. Thank you. You gripped it the way you’re supposed to and this is designed to get you to grip. Now try it out. Now, so it’s designed for people who aren’t familiar with fountain pens to line it and own. You changed your grip as soon as you started writing. You did. You went to a lateral tripod. What? Now, okay. When you held it originally, you had hold it. That’s a dynamic tripod. So, you want me to like And then you started writing. Stay like that. What? Yep. You can. But then your thumb went across and it became a lateral tripod. Like like that. Oh, cuz I’m moving my thumb. Yes. Oh, I see. But watch. Look at my fingers. Look. I’m looking. my index finger is just there for moral support. It’s not doing anything. And so my whole it just wasn’t working for me. And so I found that the cheaper one, which is the Platinum Preppy, this is an entry level disposal. It won’t right at all for me. Yeah, you have to get the angle right. Yeah, you got you got it. You got it upside down. Deeper closer. You got it upside down. You have to have the nib is what that thing is called. You have to have that facing. Oh, so as being on the top, the curve is up. No, no, no, no, no. The curve is down. Down. Yeah. And then what we found is that Link’s riding style is a lateral tripod and I have a It’s not writing. I have the dynamic tripod and my wife has the lateral quadripod. Can you believe that I married a lateral quadripod? Is is there like a hierarchy system in the way you No, but it just means that I I’m I don’t write with the more expensive one. Is this one ends up being better for me? But then you have to be very gentle. And if you get it wrong, nothing comes out. Uh yeah, maybe it’s just you. It’s supposed to be super gentle. Like super like it. It’s a nice flow state that you get into. But people are spending $700 on a pen. 700. Like there’s people doing pen reviews and they’re like, “Okay, I’m moving into the $500 to $700 range.” What? For one pen, this is $5. That’s $30. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far. So, you abandoned your $30 because Yeah. But I also started figuring out that I think I need a hooded nib. I think I need a hooded nib because we heard you the first time. I I I I hold the pen so far down that there this is there’s ink actually flowing right there. Right. So if I were to touch that it actually boom gets well oh it can get ink on you if you touch it. Um and so I was getting so low on that thing and they make these nibs out of gold. Yeah. Some of the nice ones are made out of gold. This is these are for calligraphists. And also it’s not Moleskin, it’s Moleskin A. Wait, I didn’t know that. Yeah, it’s not even Moleskin. It’s Moleskin. What do you mean? Like the brand Moleskin. It’s Moleskin. The like notebooks. The notebooks like the You’re supposed to pronounce the e the fancy notebooks that have Moleskin. Moleskin. Is it someone’s name? I don’t even know. So it’s not the skin of a mole. You can say Moleskin. Most people say that in English, but Molkane is what what us who are really in the EDC game. But also, we don’t really like Moleskin because for us fountain pen users, it’s not the paper’s not good enough. Oh. So, we’re more of, you know, like we like Rodia, which is a French company and uh that’s one of the ones I use to Okay. But if you are interested in novel I’ve watched so many hours of these guys talk about this now. It is so up my alley. This one up your what? This one you can measure the length of the snail you drew and it’s got a level in it. I’m most interested in this one. Okay. Which what is it? See if you can give that a shot. It um Well, it’s a pen, but then it’s also aroma therapy. Oh, I could I say it smells It does smell good. What do you You open up those vents at the top and the more you open up, I think the more it it it aromatherapies. I want I want to open them all. Oh, have it all wet. Are there different sensors? It’s like grill vents. So, as you’re riding, it calms you down. It calms you down. And how does the That’s Oh, twist. There are multiple scents that you can uh purchase. Multiple scents. Yeah. Yeah. including I already have a head candy candy store citrus grove coffee house Chris mountaire dinner classic all the way up and all the way up the nose huh it’s very strong yeah it’s too strong for me I have a headache what does this take four of these and call me in the morning why do you need all of them open though I think that’s a little much I I don’t think we do these are pills so This would draw a little attention, don’t you think? You’re really into drugs. It’s actually quite big. Uh, if you’re in the coffee shop trying to be inconspicuous. Broke that. Um, this is for this is for people who lose pens, I guess. Figure out how to do that and then tell me. See? Oh. Oh, it’s gone. It’s like a magic trick. I think you have to twist it or something. So, is this for like writing prescriptions? This is for the doctor. It’s like, “Oh, I can help you with that.” Veron, how’d you do that? I pulled and I twisted. This is a game hold in one. I don’t know. I just feel like I don’t love these. I just feel like these novelty pens really go against the purpose of a pen, you know? I just feel like now that I really have come to understand and appreciate pens in the past four or five days um from watching multiple YouTube videos about them, now I’m kind of offended by these novelty pens. It just seems like people are treading in a place that they shouldn’t. I think it’s good office decor. Good office decor. Yeah. Yeah. It’s good to keep trash around your office on your desk. Um, you’re going into your senior year of high school. I mean, do you even use your hand to write anymore? I mean, no. Yeah. No, really a lot. Really? Yeah. You You write with your hand. I I handwrite all of my psychology notes and that Hey, it’s smart. And this is really yeah it’s it’s coming back because people are there’s in your generation correct me if I’m wrong seems to people everywhere are rebelling a little bit against all the digital stuff and against all the AI and everybody just going to AI to get answers for things and they’re like let’s let’s like slow down and like people are starting to they’re starting to write more with their hands again. I think it it’s the like the speed of the way that we think and process information. Yeah. I feel like at least a lot of my teachers, they make us do it in like on paper because they think we can retain it like retain the information that we get better. So I I definitely understand why and I like writing notes so I’m not opposed to it. Maybe it goes into a different part of your brain. Well, typically what you do because you can’t write as fast as you type, which is why I used to never do it because I would be like, why would I do that when I can type so much faster? But what happens in your brain is you actually have to process the thing that’s being said to you and you have to think of a way for you to write it in a different way that you’ll hold on to and is shorter. So you write you actually do a synthesis of the thought in your brain versus just like copying it down. And that’s why it’s one of the reasons you retain it better. I know you’re a basketball player. Are you also a drummer? No. I’ve I’ve thought about becoming Well, now’s your chance. Not bad. Maybe maybe a little um I don’t know. We once took one of our friends to the drum store. You could do one of these because we needed a drummer for the wax paper dogs. So we took Trent to the store and he bought a set of drums and a and a DVD VHS tape actually from Kenny Arinoff, the drummer for John Cougar Metal Camp. And that’s how he learned how to drum. Wow. See, I actually drew a drum. You can probably you could probably find it on the internet somewhere. Now you can drum on the drum that I drew. Oh yeah, it sounds better. There it is. So in order to form your band, you forced friends to learn to play instruments versus like looking for Just so you understand, it was a Christian band. So the first thing we did, we got him saved and then we took him to the drum store, taught him how to drum. You got to be saved and you got to figure out how to play the drum. So what what is this? I think it’s like a magnet of some sort with other magnets. But the uh He’s still a drummer. But these these really? Yep. He’s not saved anymore. But uh but still a drummer. But Oh. Oh. Oh, I was just texting with him the other day. Send that back. Really? Yeah. We going to get together? We should. That’s not what you were texting about. I don’t know where these go. Where do these balls go? Only on the top. Where? apart and then take apart like a guide a magnetic die like you can take the ink out. Take the ink out and then this becomes something you fiddle fart around with. Yeah. Oh, and then like a fidget toy. Yeah. So, put put some of these Oh, it’s like a build your own pen. And maybe put two. But you can’t put the ink through the ball. Like make this a neck like Oh, I see. Yeah. And then can you do it sideways? I think we can. Oh. Oh, wait. What do you call this? I’m gonna let you do that. Pretty good, though. Everything’s just sticking to each other. Oh, wait. You think you could swallow a pill that big? I bet you you could. This would be a tough one. Yeah. Rat’s always bragging to me about how many pills he can swallow at once. I mean, this is a tough one. If this one gets stuck, this would be a problem. And look at that. That’s like right on the sides of kind of lost with these. These don’t Yeah. Everything’s just sticking to each other. I can swallow that. I’m not going to try. Get rid of this. We don’t need that. And you definitely do not want to swallow one of these. Yeah, one of these. A metal ball. Metal ball. I think that would just Well, they’re not magnetic in and of themselves, are they? You don’t want to swallow two magnets. Oh, that’s that creates all kinds of problems. Interesting. Well, you don’t want Yeah, because then one will be on one side of your intestine. What happens and then one will be on the other side and then they they do like that and then they have to come together. Happens every day in emergency room somewhere in the world. If you’re going to swallow magnets, you need to swallow them in a batch. You don’t need to swallow them over time. Oh, so they have to be like Yeah. You want them to be connected as they go through. And it’s probably wise just to not swallow them to begin with. I’ll keep note of that next time I swallow. Yeah. You know, I should write that in my notebook. Don’t swallow magnets. Yeah, do it. I wrote this in a different I held the pen differently and I wrote I’m trying to figure out if I should alter my pen grip. I can’t tell if my style is a problem. and looking at it problem meant that meaning that is me holding the pen wrong going to cause a problem more hand problems that I’m trying to solve based on the way that that looks ways to it is a problem a little bit but you know what I’m 47 that’s all we get I’m not going to change it that’s as deep as it goes I’m now writing in my new style it’s like the page after page of just new style that’s all you got it’s a very meta journal yeah it’s very very shallow Okay. Is there any uh warnings or disclaimers that you want to give to anyone watching who might have their hopes up of meeting us one day? I don’t know. Uh just try, I guess. Don’t stalk them, though. Be be cautious. I thought you were going to say it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Oh, it’s it’s good. It’s good, but not stockworthy. Yeah. Like it’s not Don’t stress yourself out about it.
