
Can we match the pickle to the restaurant? Welcome to Good Mythical More. How much have you paid attention to pickles… at fast food restaurants? I’m a pickle lover, a lover of pickles, but I’m not the kind of guy that thinks about it when it’s on there. And I’m not the kind of guy that orders extra pickles. Even though if you ask me do I want extra pickles, I’d be like, yeah, I would just respond with yes, but I would never. Just do that on my own. What does that say? I don’t know. I think that Christie, my wife She’s an extra pickle person for sure. She’s an extra pickle person and a lot of times they’ll put ’em on the side. I think she would kill at this. And um, she’s a killer, but she’s not here and she’s too smart to appear on this camera. You know, you’re not an extra pickle person. You’re definitely not a no pickles guy either. You know what? As I age, I’m opening up to pickles because of, I think the palate change you’re opening up to more pickles. More pickles. But you, I’ve never seen you say… Pickle juice, pickle chips? All the pickle flavored stuff. Hold the pickles. I’ve never seen you say hold the pickles. I, I stopped saying that. I did say that. Of course I said that. Right. But when? In your younger years? I would take them off of cheeseburgers. Interesting. You would, you would ask for no tomato, but then you would get it and it would have pickles and you would, you then would remove the pickles? I might I might say no pickles, but then I would take them off. If they were on there, they wouldn’t taint it like a tomato would, It wasn’t ideal. Arguably, they’re much stronger, more specific flavor than tomatoes. Yeah. So I can understand. If you don’t like the flavor of pickles, you would be like Uhuh. I don’t know why, in my mind, I’ve never thought about where fast food pickles come from, but there’s just like… one big pot of fast food cucumbers that all go to the different places, but I know that’s not true. Well, that’s what we’re about to find out if they’re all the same, I guess. Yeah. Um, we have a lot to choose from here. What we’re gonna do is we’re gonna take that placard and we’re gonna put it on this red plate. Were these ordered, Katrina? On the side or were they removed from an item? – They look pretty clean. – On the side. Yeah, they look real clean. So we don’t get any hints from that. Um, I would say that is a good pickle. It seems like it’s this, it’s a little fresh. Fresh, very thin. I like a real thin pickle. Of course this one’s a little thicker. I think I can confidently say it’s not McDonald’s. Right? Because I don’t know if McDonald’s A is Ridge. Maybe they are, but. McDonald’s feels like they’re gonna be more processed in, like more pickled. This feels like maybe a Shake Shack situation. I don’t know. Like something where they’re trying to like a little more bespoke. Yeah. Be like, we have, we have nice pickles. We reserve the right to move these around. We have nice pickles. We do. We’re Shake Shack. But these are really good pickles. They’re very salty. Rhett, look at these pickles. Those are translucent, my friend. That’s a different species. Yes, my friend. And this one is a long one. Look, I can see you. No, I can’t. You know, you can’t. I feel like I could almost see you. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I can’t see you. Hold on. This is a, this is a real big hint here. Because it’s so long. Yeah. That’s weird dude. For it to be that long. What, okay. Does In N Out hand slice their pickles in the same way they hand slice their potatoes? That would be such a weird call. I do not like the taste of this pickle nearly as much as this one. I think I’d agree that with that. Okay, now I’m realizing that this pickle is super, super salty. I think this might be Popeye’s. I’m starting to think that this might be McDonald’s or whatever this, I’m thinking that this might be Shake Shack, gimme a reason because it’s more, much more bespoke than that. You’ve got all types of shapes. It’s like they’re hand sliced. They’re all over the place. They’re not mass manufactured. They’re not hand sliced. I’m 100% sure you think people are making pickles at a restaurant? Nobody’s making pickles at any of these places. Okay, not hand sliced, but the fact that there was such a long one, there’s no consistency. They’re very inconsistent. So who, well, it’s also the second round of pickles. I mean, we don’t know… We don’t know how inconsistent these are gonna get, but certainly not McDonald’s. Certainly not McDonald’s. They would never have a pickle that was that big. Exactly. I don’t think any of the fast, fast food places would. You’re saying maybe Popeye’s. That’s why I said Popeye’s. ’cause it’s more of a chicken place than a… Yeah, but… okay, so we’re doing this right now I feel like I would know if it was an In N Out pickle But, oh my God. Look at… pickles Could be so different. I definitely can’t see through that one. These are some thick ones. It’s not the same batch. It’s not the same. They are so thick. Oh, that’s a sweet pickle. Hmm. Are you sure it’s sweet or are you sure it’s just not pickled as much? It’s, it’s, um, it’s both. It’s got, so sometimes if you, if you get like a mount olive dill pickle, you look and the way you know if there’s any sugar. Is if it has any calories in it. So most pickles will say zero on ’em, but if they do a little sugar in their mix, and they definitely do for this one, these are good. I like, I like this better. I like it when it’s dill, but also some sweet in there. Not super sweet. I would, I thought, I feel like this might be Popeye’s. Popeye’s. Yeah. I’m tasting what I’ve tasted in Popeye’s Cause this would be really complimentary to chicken, the savoriness of chicken. See, so now at this point what we’ve done is… We’re a hundred percent right at this point. So you agree with this being In N Out? Yeah. I don’t, I don’t know about this. I, I mean they seem somewhat bespoke. – These look like… – It’s pretty uniform. The red plate. they could be exactly the same. This is straight dill. It’s good. Pretty classic. It’s a little shocking actually, after I had that sweet pickle. It’s not nearly as salty as the first one. I think this is like a Burger King or a Wendy’s. I’m telling you right now, this one’s so salty. You think it’s McDonald’s? I think it’s McDonald’s. They don’t, they do not. They get skirt of salt, but it’s not Shake Shack. I think that’s what we’re discovering. We’re in more like, um, these are like. Counterparts almost. Yep. Yep. Still a hundred percent right. Whoa. Stevie, do you care if we move the plates around in order? No, as long as the, yeah, as long as you don’t move the pickles off the color. Look at, this is… look how big that is. This is so much bigger than every other pickle. This is crazy. This is crazy. I mean, they’re the, they’re almost the same as what we think is Popeye’s. That’s the best pickle that we’ve had. I would eat those straight. I go to the fridge late at night. I’ll eat a pickle right before I go to bed. I won’t do that. Why is it the best pickle? Crisp, crisp. It’s balanced. It’s salty, but not too salty Fresh feeling It’s got a fresh feel to it. Robust. Who would have the best pickles? Shake Shack. No, those are too big for a burger. It might be Subway. Subway. Oh, Subway would have the best pickles? I think they might. They might. Because you’re just sitting there looking at ’em all. Yeah, they’re there. I think maybe you’re, you’re right, They’re being handled. Oh, now we got, okay. And this is gonna be, this is gonna be Wendy’s, McDonald’s, or Burger King. ’cause they’re all matching each other. They’re all doing ribbed. Yep. So what I’m doing is I’m gonna, I’m gonna push these weird ones down. Rippled. I’m gonna push these over. These are spicy. That’s a spicy pickle. They’re little. Is that spicy or am I crazy? It’s got a kick to it. Well, that’s clearly Popeye’s. They wouldn’t do that at any other place. It’s a Cajun chicken place, right? Uh, no. No, no. We felt pretty. Yeah, but now we feel different. I think it’s, I think they’ve, I think Popeye’s is countering Well, I agree that this is a better pickle for a Popeye’s, but dude, they know that they’ve never done what we’re doing. – Shake Shack has a whole… – Have all the restaurant people sat down and done what we’re doing right now? I don’t think so. I’d like to think they’re not. Yeah, they’re not, they’re doing it. I’d like to think they’re watching this and saying, thank God someone did this. Right. Yep. That’s why we do it. It’s a service. Now, I’m gonna argue that this is Shake Shack, because… I’m hearing… The Spicy Kick is something that it’s just part of their palate. They have a whole burger that has that spicy relish on it. The best one in the bucket. And I think they’re kind of forcing that experience on you, even though it… You think they have spicy pickles? I think spicy is an option for people. But why would Wendy’s do this? The only person I can explain doing it is Popeye’s. But the only thing that makes sense for these pickles is Popeye’s Because we, I actually have tasted that pickle at Popeye’s. I think you’re right. I’m just telling you. So who’s doing spicy pickles? Shake Shack, maybe. I don’t know. But let, let’s taste the last one. Whoa. Oh God. Those are so big. These are huge. Look at that. These are the biggest ones. These are big but completely classic, salty, not too dilly. What do you call that? It’s not ribs. Ribbed. Crinkle cut. Ridge. Ridge. Ridge. A ridged pickle? What do they call it? I think so, ’cause ruffles. Ruffles have ridges. Crinkle cut. It is crinkle cut, but what do you think they call it in the pickle parlance. Wa- wa- wave. Waved. Waved and ridged. I don’t hate these. They taste just like. The other ridged pickles except for the spicy ones. But they’re too big. They’re so big. They might be so big and thick that they also might be Subway. Here’s the thing, I can’t figure out what would be Wendy’s. Wendy’s is going to be… None of those are Wendy’s. Wendy’s is gonna be one of these, I believe. Oh, yeah. ’cause Shake Shack, I think these may be Shake. This is Shake Shack. Yeah. So what we’re gonna, and that’s Wendy’s. We’re a hundred percent right now. But here I, I feel really good about this grouping. If we’re wrong, it’s within these three. Yeah. We’re probably not wrong though. My least favorite pickle was the In-N-Out pickle. Okay. You didn’t leave it at organize them based on your favorite? No, this is just how right we are. Okay. Well you have one correction. Dang it. Okay. Could you tell us which one that is? Just so we can, and I also at some point would like to see the ranking of your favorites. Uh, you want me to tell you tell us which one we have. Right. Okay. Well it was the one that you were most passionate about. Popeye’s. Popeye’s, yeah. Okay. I feel good about that. All right, so now, not the best pickle, but… I think it is my favorite pickle. It’s easily my favorite pickle up here because it is, it’s got an interesting flavor. It is a good pickle. Switch all three of those within themselves This one’s, this one’s too salty, and I think Burger King, they overdo it. Subway is doing okay. Subway is doing Big Thickers. Shake Shack… I’m sorry, I said that. Shake Shack. No. In-N-Out. Who’s doing big pickles like that? I don’t think Shake Shack puts pickles on anything unless you ask for. Okay. It’s not a default. Did you switch all three of those? Yeah, we’re right now. Right? Uh, for a second I thought you were gonna get one right But no, no, they’re still, you’re still wrong across the board. Oh. What about these three? I mean, then… We must be wrong. Oh, wait. You did get one. You got one. Which one? Which one? Burger King. Okay. Okay, good. So something is weird about this ’cause… Oh, nope. Here we go. Those are right, right? You got one more. Oh my God. Wendy’s. We must have got Wendy’s is correct. Now. So you’re telling me that this is McDonald’s? It might be, Yes. McDonald’s doesn’t have ridges. I knew it. That’s it, right? Yep. It almost tastes like it’s got mustard on it. Okay. So it see that, that you feeling so strongly about McDonald’s, it’s not, it really sent us in the wrong direction. I mean, nothing against you personally It kind of seems like you’re directing that at me. Um, so now… The whole, the you statements of it all seem to be directed at me. In-N-Out is trying to be like the other big boy burger places, but they’re making a bigger pickle. Okay. Um. Shake Shack has got the giant pickles and Subway’s got small pickles. Yay. We did it. Okay, but now show me, now organize it by which ones you like the best. Popeye’s is my favorite. I think it’s gonna be Who’s your favorite? Who’s the worst? Popeye’s is pretty good. Shake Shack is great. Subway’s a little bit spicy. I don’t like McDonald’s. Weird. Uh, I mean, these aren’t as good. It’s gonna be over here. I’m okay with it. I’m okay with In-N-Out. Crunchy Crunchy Crunchy, crunchy, crunchy, crunchy, crunchy, Burger King’s the worst. Popeye’s is the best. Shake Shack is a close second. I really feel I agree. Like we’ve learned. This feels very productive to me. Yeah. The pickle people should have been doing this. I mean, I, I think we… Shake Sack is good. changed minds today. Shake Sack and Popeye’s. There you go. Um, heads and shoulders really. So then if you go to those places, you might be inclined to order some extra pickles. Pickle on the side.
