What weird words does only your family use? Welcome to Good Mythical More. You know, families are little microcosms of language. Hmm. You can come up with inside jokes or references that circulate and disseminate and reverberate to the point where everyone in your immediate domicile, but nowhere else on Earth, knows what you're saying. You had some words like this growing up, at least that your grandparents and whatnot would say. Yeah. And I don't know if they were very, like, micro regional, if they were actually limited to your family. Like, when my family, yeah, when my… My mom's side of the family, my mom's mom and dad lived with my mom's mom's sister. They all lived together, and then- That's her aunt. Yeah. Her aunt. She lived with her aunt, too. Yeah. And then they had, like, a, like, eight other siblings, and they all said things like, whenever they would hold a baby, they'd say, "He's a teensy-onsy." Teetsy-intsy? Nope. Teensy-onsy. Teensy-onsy. Teensy- Teensy-onsy. Teensy-onsy? Teensy-onsy. Teensy-onsy? Yeah. Teensy-onsy. Look at that little teensy-onsy. So is it, is this a s- riff on teensy-weensy? Tee- Teensy-weensy. I've never heard. Tee- Like, the in, the teensy-weensy. Eensy. Teensy-weensy? Yeah, teensy-weensy. My family said teensy-weensy for something very small. Teensy-weensy is, like, when something's really small. It's a teensy-weensy little seed. Yes, I guess it is, but they said teensy-onsy. Okay. So they, so, so they riffed on it. Yeah. And it's only used for babies. What about small animals? Uh, I never heard it used for small animals. Mm-mm. Okay. All right. Well- Maybe if something's really cute and it's an animal, but it has human-like qualities. That squirrel baby looks like a teensy icee. Well, I get it. I don't think- I got more where that came from … I don't think I, I don't think I have any that were just my family. I think it was just regional stuff that they said, like from South Georgia. Um, I've told you this one before, which always gets me. Um, number two, if you do a poop, they call that a hockey. I don't know. I don't know. But you haven't heard that in yours? You've heard that? Or you've- No … you've heard me say that. We have a name different from that. Oh, well, all right, don't give it away now, 'cause we're guessing who's … So crew members, including Hitch apparently, did you submit a- Not that not hockey- Correct … but another one. But also not for poop, I think- Yeah … is what she said. Not for poop either. Okay, nothing. So you're not involved in this. No, you are. So crew members have submitted things that their families have said, but they don't have to be related to hockey or poop or anything. For the record, this was not designed to be a guessing game, but you have just turned it into that, so we're just making some changes back here. Oh, it's not a guessing game. Okay. All right. It doesn't have to be. Yeah. I mean, has anybody ever heard of the term hockey for using- Well, a hockey puck looks like a little dooky. I know. And, and that's what you told me when I told you this, but it's … I don't know. And I thought it was the worst word ever. I thought it was a curse word. I thought the … It's, I wanna say the H word. Uh. No, that one, the sport. It's also something really bad, like a steaming pile of- When did you realize that hockey wasn't a bad word? Couple years ago? Uh, when I discovered hockey, which is I think when the Carolina Hurricanes existed. Right. So in your adulthood, basically. Let's hear some other ones, though, 'cause Rhett apparently doesn't have any. Okay. In this, uh, in this cr- Jenna? Yes, hi. I don't wanna force you anywhere you don't wanna go. Well, I, well, I'm still deciding if you want it to be a guessing game or you wanna just me to tell you whose, whose family it is for these famletics. I don't think we're gonna have any, any way- Tell us who it is and what the word is, but we can guess what it means. Yeah, let's guess what it means. All right, cool. For Brittany, uh, the phrase that her family use is throw-up meat. Throw-up meat? Mm-hmm. Throw up meat. What would that mean? I, I would imagine that what we're talking about is like baloney. This is what, this is what her family calls baloney. They don't… So Brittany, you on a mic? Yeah. Oh, she's right here. So okay, this could either be, "Oh, that's throw-up meat. We don't eat that," is what you're saying. It's like a category of meats that you have a derogatory term for. But throw-up meat could also be your tongue. You know? It could be. Would you like to know what it is? It's just like, don't bite your throw-up meat. You know, 'cause when you throw up, ugh, your tongue comes out. That's the meat. It's pretty literal. Hm. All right, so- What is it? … who's right? I think it's the tongue. Uh, neither of you are right. Throw-up meat- Give us a hint. Okay. Throw-up meat is one specific meat, and it's not a negative term. So is it meat that you toss? No. But is throw up in this context, does it mean vomit? Yes. But it's a compliment. Well, it's, it's just a general descriptor. Hot dog? It's neither a compliment nor- I think it's, you, so it's meat that you think smells like throw up. No? Okay, tell us. Okay. Uh, throw-up meat is turkey burgers, because when my brother was little, he threw up after eating turkey burgers. Oh. And from that day on, when he wanted turkey burgers, he would request throw-up meat, 'cause he just re- he was little. He remembered that he ate it and threw up, but he loved it. So that caught on in my family. We always called turkey burgers throw-up meat. And so throw up makes you a little bit hungry now. Yeah. To this very day. Wow. Um- That is crazy … also, on the hockey front- Throw up meat … um, I will just say my husband's family has a name for poop that I won't say, because it was, my husband grew up thinking that this was a slang term for poop. He then found out when he was older that it was his dad's boss's name. But it was so normalized in his home that he thought that that was the word. Oh, that was effective. Like Stan? Yeah, like a last name. Bobby? Yeah. Oh, a last name. Yeah. Like Dominguez. Yeah, like, "We're gonna go drop a Dominguez." Yeah. Definitely Dominguez. And it was just what he called his boss. I'ma teach my kids that the wor- my boss's name is the… That's great. Wow, that, it, it- That gives you some satisfaction … he must not have enjoyed his job. Don't worry. I don't refer to my poop as Rhett and Link. I appreciate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. I made a little Rhett today. Let's try- He, he needs some company. Let's try a new one. Leah is up next. Uh, her family's term is Becky. Becky. Okay. This is not a person. Uh uh. Is it an adjective or a noun? It is a descriptor word, but also it, it's a noun Okay, well Link said it was a adjective. It's a descriptor word. It's not, it's not a person, place, thing, or idea? It's a word to describe a person who's exhibiting a certain kind of behavior Like a Karen Oh, okay. So and did, did y- so you invented this term after Karen or before Karen? Before Karen Oh, wow. Before Karen existed, there was Becky in your house. Yes She is such a Becky. He is such a Becky. They are such a Becky. Exactly Because you knew a Becky, and it was your mom's boss. Close This, this is, this is someone who is loquacious. This is someone who talks too much. This is someone who can't shut up, a Becky Not quite But it is- Okay. Okay … it is negative Correct Okay It's someone who is bossy. Can't share, can't stop sharing their opinions. Sort of Sort of It's one of the options Okay Oh, there's options. A Becky. A, a v- Just a general B word, but not Becky Yeah Oh, it's another way of saying the B word Exactly And is that- Yes. Okay, got it Did you know a Becky who was a B word? Uh, my dog's name was Becky And was she a B word? Oh, geez Oh, she was a delight, but, uh- But she was a female dog … my dad sometimes would, yes Technically, yes. Wow And so because she was a female dog, now you call people, you call the B words Becky Exactly Okay, being a Becky Wow, so it's a clean version of the B word. A Becky Huh. At what point does Becky become just as bad as saying the real B word? Uh- That's an existential question … yeah, that really is Take that back to your family We, I approve though. Son of a Becky. Becky. The way, Becky. Son of a Becky. It works. Yeah. It works. You, you immediately get it. All right. What's the next? Well, Hitch's family has a long list of nicknames that specifically her dad tends to come up with. So I'm gonna give you a nickname, and you need to try and guess who maybe in the family these are. Okay. All right, so we got Doc and Izzy. Doc and Izzy I can give you their real names. Maybe you could guess who in the family. Doc is an uncle. Nope. Izzy's a grandma. Nope. Doc is your family doctor. Kinda, kinda. Doc and Izzy. Doc and Izzy, are, are, are they a couple? Yes. Uh, neighbors. No. Family. That's your mom and dad. Yes. Doc and Izzy. Yep. He calls himself Doc? She calls him Doc. He doesn't call himself Doc. What's his… Where's Doc come from? He is a doctor, so. Oh, a doctor of what? Uh, dentistry. A doctor of dentistry. Well, that's better. A doctor of teeth. He's an oral surgeon. Oh, okay. Well, there you go. There's a doctor there. There you go. Uh, okay. That, well, that makes sense. Let's try out Stoshey. Stoshey Dashi is, um Your brother? Yes. Mm-hmm. Do you wanna guess his name? Yep. Stan. Josh. Neither. St- Eustation. You got it. Eustation Tube. Stashy. Sta- Yeah, Stashy, and that is for her brother Steven. Can you guess what her brother Patrick's nickname is? Poshie. No Patty. Starts with a T. I think- Yeah, you're not gonna- You're not gonna get it unless you have a little something. Torkel. Tweety. Stashey and Torkel. Stashey and… It ends the same way, like, with a Y. Oh. Stashey and- Is that Tashi? What's his real name? Patrick. Toddy. Poshey. Stashey and Poshey. Pashey. Tacky. Nope. Pootie. Tabby. I don't think they're gonna get it, Jenna. All right. It is Trivi. Trivi. Oh, yeah. Okay. Well, how did this happen? I don't know. My dad. He just calls people- Everybody- … 'cause he can't remember. No, I don't think that's why, but everybody has a nickname. What does he call you? Do we- What, um- We are revealing that? Do we want to, do, do we wanna reveal that, or- Now Hitch is off your last name. Correct. But there's a lot of Hitch's- … in our family. Mm-hmm. So we can't all go by Hitch. Yeah, so it can't be that. Okay. Of course, your first name is, uh… Kat- Katherine. Katherine, with a Y. With a Y. I knew that. Yes. So- So it's got nothing to do with Katherine. Correct. Well, then how are we gonna get there? What does it start with? An R. Hm. Rhody. No. Rhoda. Rory. Riley. Oh. Ririe. Richard. Rick. It's not a name. Ribbit. Yeah, y'all, uh, going off of the other nicknames, none of them are actual names really. Ribbit. Rabbit. Give us a hint. Where, where does it come from? Uh, I don't know. You don't know? He just calls you th- Yes. Rah Rah. The, I'll give you the- I am looking at it right now, and I have honestly no idea where this could come from. So I'll give you the second and third part because there's, like, a full version of it- Okay that has less of an explanation. The second word is Tinks, and the third is Terwilliger. Tinks Terwilliger. Yeah, Terwilliger. Terwilliger. Tinks Terwilliger. Wow. Tommy Tinks Terwilliger. Yeah, your dad's a character. Tra- Tra- Travis The first, the first word rhymes with Tinks. Rinks. Yes. Oh. Rinks Tinks Terwilliger. Rinks Tinks Terwilliger. That sounds like, I mean, he, I think he should come up with names for cartoon characters. I, yeah, I guess. Any of those? And how often does he call you guys these names? I mean, my mom exclusively calls all of us by those names pretty much. Oh, what? So now- Unless it's, like, a serious conversation. But everybody in my family calls me Rinks. So when people say Katherine, I really don't respond because it's either Hitch or Rinks. Rinks. That is crazy. And my dad calls poop a job. A job. Okay, I've heard, no, I've heard that. Yeah. I've heard the job. And when my, when my mom- Yeah. Where's he from? Pittsburgh. Huh. When my mom needed him to use the restroom in a hotel, he would say he was doing a job, jobby in the lobby. Yeah, but, see, my family would say, "You, you, you gonna do a bad job?" Yeah. You gonna do a bad job? Maybe your family- They were, oh … used to, no, maybe they were from Pittsburgh. I think they were very fixated on constipation. That's where they got hockey from. Somebody, they, they had a man- Yeah … with a briefcase from Pittsburgh- Did a bad hoppy hockey guy … probably related to Hitch, who showed up one day selling vacuums, and they picked up on this, this Pittsburgh lingo. I think that was my grandpa. Yeah, exactly. Could be Next one. Please let us know in the comments the ones that you have, 'cause I know you're thinking about it. Let us know. We got a couple more Hitches, or do we wanna skip to the next crew member? Two more. Let us ha- let, we can't guess them, just tell us. Okay. Uh, her dad and mom call her dad's mom Weezer or Squeezer. Okay. Her name's Anne. Okay. Weezer or Squeezer. And yeah, and then Hitch's maternal grandmother is Stormin. Okay. Her name is- Real name is Norma. Yeah. That one- Stormin Norma and Stormin Norma. Stormin Norma. The baseball player? She was always stormin' around, yes. The baseball player. Yeah. Yeah. And wrestler. No, that's Chase's grandma. Okay, good. Now that I s- that I see them, though, it's, I kinda feel like- Stormin Norma Steven K- it c- you can see how the Stachi comes from that, and then Patrick, you got the Tri- Trivi. Yeah. And then Rinks, Kathrin, like it's in there somewhere. Yes. Like, he's got a, he has a logic to this. Yeah. He takes a middle consonation and turns it into a nickname. Now Weezer, I don't know about that She probably wheezes It is my wheeze? She have emphysema? No. Mm. All right, next one. Who we got? Next is James and his family's, uh, fun little thing they like to say is, "That's good poop." That's just a Canadian thing. That's good poop. Yeah. But that's, that's a nice way to say, "That's good sh-" No, it's not literal. The poop is- No, I know it's not literal, but it's like- Oh, yeah if you say that's, that's- But the, it's a very specific use case. You, it's not like- Oh … an open-ended that's good sh- So what, what, in what situations? Well, that's what you're trying to guess. It's- That's good poop. Is it conversation? N- no, no. Is it, is it physical? Yeah. Yeah. So you're looking at something- Yeah and you can tell by looking at it if it's good poop or not. You're doing more than looking. What? You're doing more than looking. Oh, you're eating it. Yeah. It tastes good. Yeah, yeah. Really good food you call that's good poop? That's good poop. That's good poop. That's good poop. When food is good- That's good poop. What is- But poop. Yeah. Does poop only mean food for you? All food becomes poop. It, it's not something I would do in my own home. It's, like, family gathering- Yeah, yeah, yeah … where you have, like, a weird Dutch uncle, you love him, he's weird. You say it because, "Oh, that's good poop. Oh." "Oh, that's some really good poop." "Oh, that's some good poop, eh?" "That's the best poop." "Oh." Is that what your family says? I've had better poop than this poop. 100%. Who else? All right. Our final one, uh, comes from Annaliese. Her family has two acronyms as slang that they use pretty often. The first one- Acronyms … the first acronym is BOMAD. B-O-M-A-D. Bring your own- There's no R … manicure. Uh. BOMAD. Boy- Bo- Bring on, bet or but. Oh, man. Father. Break- I'll give you a hint. The O and the A are, like, the kind of filler words that you n- that you need, like a- B and D … conjunctions. What y'all… Uh, nope. So O is in a conjunction? Like, what do you mean? Like, just tell us what the O says. Big. The O is- Old. Big old … the O is of and the A is and. Okay. Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Additional hint, I brought some serious paperwork regarding it. That I had to email my dad for. Awesome. Yeah. Very serious. Can we, should we look? Well, does it give it away if we look at it? Yes. Oh, okay. If you give us the first l word, is it gonna give it away? Maybe. B of M and D. B of M and D. Mom and dad. Yes. Bucket- Babies of mom and dad. No. B- Bucket of mom and dad? No. Buttload of mom and dad. That's good, but no. Bourgeoisie of mom and dad. Do you give up? Does it seem like it? Do we look like the type of people that give up? No. No, no, no. No. Is this for, is this when they're doing something? No. Ah, ah. No. No, not like that. All right. Let me look at it So it's just a list of a bunch of, bunch of things It's, it's a l- it's, it's like checking account balance It says it, B- Bank of Mom and Dad. BOMAD, Bank of Mom and Dad. And so it's like, well, what, you ask for money- This is any time that they g- they, they gave you some money and they would be like, the old- This is like, it, they weren't even giving us money. We would give them any cash we got from babysitting or checks, and then they'd put it in this digital Bank of Mom and Dad. And then if we were at the store and wanted to use their credit card, we would reference BOMAD to see if we could. Yes. And so you would each ha- they would keep your balances. They managed your money for you. Yeah, they did. But would they also… So they would remove things. Yes, yes. They actually kept up with it. Oh, yeah. My dad did. Yeah. Yeah, I told Shepherd and Locke that we would do something like that. And now Shepherd's 18. So… $10 here, $7 here, $40. Your, your sister spent $40 for tech class. Oh. Oh, $150 for an encore. You gotta buy those now? I think that was our theater group. I haven't actually read what all of these are, so this is back from… This is one of the last editions of it, so- Right … I think I was, like, in high school and just opened my own account, but my younger siblings were still cashing some babysitting money. Oh, Josiah put $5 in the offering plate. Yeah. Oh, look at that. Good for him. Good for him. Look at that. But then he withdrew $20. Well, God multiplies. That's how it works. He, he literally- You can't outgive God. It says it right here. He deposited five and he took out 20. There you go. He made $15 right there in the BOMAD. There you go. Is there another one? Um, yeah, there's one more- All right … if you have time for it. Yes. Okay, cover this up 'cause I saw… I didn't see the answer. I just saw that there was another one. What is it? It is CDFB. CDFB. It's a, it's kind of like a checklist to phone, keys, wallet, but for a different reason. CDFB. Oh. Um, C, C stands for keys. I don't know. Give a C. CDFB. Clothes. Cl- Make sure you got on clothes. Make sure you've got, make sure you have your feelings. Mm-hmm. No, that's not it. This was… Was- I can just tell you- Yes … it does relate to BOMAD because if we did, if we accomplished CDFB five days out of the week or- Oh, chores … it, it was kind of a chores related thing. We didn't get much allowance, but we would get, I think we would get, like, dimes a day, but if you did them all, you could get a dollar for the week. But CDFB was a little checklist for the status of a room. So clothes gotta be c- put away. Oh. Floors gotta be cleared. No, CD. Dra- uh, yeah, CD. Drawers had to be closed. I don't know why that was a big deal, but drawers had to be closed. Wow. Floors had to be clear. Okay. Bed had to be made. Bed had to be made. Hey. Every single day. CDFB. If you wanted, like, bonus at the end of the week. Okay. Yeah. Your parents had some stuff figured out. Yeah. I just wanna let you know you are good enough just how you are. Thank you. I did need to hear that. You know? Thank you so much. Thank you. You don't have to, you don't have to be perfect here. Thank you. But it doesn't hurt. Yeah, how do kids turn out when you just tell them, "Uh, we're just gonna shut your door when people come over"? That's the experiment I'm running.
