fish don’t crap for six months fish die I guarantee all right it is pretty amazing when you start looking at the details of what we’re supposed to be doing to conserve water around here now one thing to keep in mind is that we are in a desert out here this is a desert this ain’t supposed to be there yeah it’s Emile it’s not supposed to be a place with grass and trees it’s just supposed to be a desert and shrubs and yeah you know scrub grass well dry we have all these beautiful lawns that everyone is putting all this water on in parks these golf courses and of course people water them multiple times a week and a lot of people are making these transitions to the rock yards you know having like a cactus and rock yard and that’s in 25 years from now I would predict that more than half of all the yards in Los Angeles will have something Rock ordered that is a responsible thing to do it should be done you know I think it was uh it was either John or Hank green in one of those videos as video one of those videos those vlogbrothers make ask the question what is the number one like the number one crop the moat the crop that uses the most water in American it was oh-oh-oh grass it was lawns people’s lawns are using the the majority the water because they need water we house sat for a couple of first year marriage and when they came back from being in Europe well when he left he was like you got to take care of my dog you got to take care of my house you got to take care of my lawn when he comes back house good dog good long lon I could not bring myself to water his lawn like right from the get-go never did it not one day I was like I cannot justify this expense I’m not going to pay for the water for this guy’s long and I didn’t water and they’re like right from the no conversation tip no conversation just total neglect of the good good tenant that’s a good tenant thing to do yeah and then when he came back he was like how long I was like yeah that was the conversation it’s tough to uh there was no coverage that you or does that was it what was there to say I’m out I was out so I just I didn’t think I thought that the amount of cost to me to maintain his lawn would be much greater all dead and dirt I mean there was grass there but it was brown it I mean it comes back you know in North Carolina but the cost of that was much greater than the cost of him just receding and beginning just giving it a fresh but let me not back let me make the observation that of your pie chart of reasons for doing this none of the pie was worrying about water it was worrying about links wallet yeah let’s just be honest I’m not I’m not what we’re talking about here is it didn’t know I was just thinking about it’s not a wallet issue it’s this is a resource issue ironically enough out here my landlord rent the house it has set up sprinklers for his lawn and I have not overridden the controls even though I feel bad whenever it sprinkles on my own you have to pay for it because you gain I pay for it you get the bill from AE LADWP yeah now and this is what according to the the water restrictions that are in place right I feel bad and I have to pay for it so double whammy LADWP customers cannot use water to wash any hard services such as sidewalks walkways driveways or parking areas unless flushing is needed to protect health and safety so you can’t just be like mow driveways dirty in the south man we will wash anything like we’ll just leave the hose on just yeah the whole dirty the hoses on the day slack up it’s like a brook in my front yard yeah going down my driveway hey go wash the driveway Martha whosh to kiss you these while you’re at it wash the one that we haven’t driven for five years it’s on block wash the hose hey you guys watch the hose before you put it up very quickly I have developed a different view of water being out here in the desert um you can’t use water to clean fill or maintain decorative fountains unless the water is part of a recirculating system oh yeah recirculate it so if you’ve got a fountain that is recirculating the water not not a big deal it’s not necessarily super responsible because it’ll evaporate and you got to feel it but it didn’t like you can just go make the holes a fountain that just goes into the gutter that’s a big no-no who does that I don’t know this is crazy you cannot serve water to customers and eating establishments unless they request it so it’s not like you’re here you obviously get waters like no you gotta say it you gotta say that you want water I think that’s great that’s not crazy that’s great because a lot of people won’t drink the water oh you know I would always be bothered by when I sit down at an establishment and there’s water on the table that I’m not gonna drink now now I order water and that’s all I drink cuz you know everything else is surprising I’m not paying for something um I’m drinks man you can waste a lot of money on drinks you can waste a lot of money on drinks yeah except it tastes better than water and so that’s why I pay for it here’s another fun fact I did not drink water until college how did you live I did not I drink soft drinks like as a kid I would not drink water my wife still doesn’t drink water I drink sparkling water she I didn’t like it listen my wife is uh is working out in the morning like doing p90x in the living room and she’s got her little thermos of sparkling water them that she’s drinking like working at I’m like this is good yeah this is young you’ve gotten way to LA you’re doing sparkling water while work you like makes it in the in the in the in the we have the thing that makes the sparkling water yeah that’s good we go hiking sparkling water that’s what she that’s what she wants I don’t like the work tanks to the right I’m staying out of this one but you know what I think uh I will drink water now as an adult and will admire it for what it is like how cleared it water is an amazing this is what makes life possible it’s an amazing thing you know I will literally on a weekly basis Scott juice there will be a boom how did you know I call this guy juice are you spying on me I will have that realization and I think that’s healthy to just you know look at something that’s beautiful and say look at that yeah look at water just look at it err go pour it on the driveway honey you’re not allowed to permit leaks from any pipe or fixture to go and repair you’re not allowed it’s good you cannot wash a vehicle without using a hose with a self-closing shutoff device you know what I’m talking about uh I’m going spray gun thingy you cannot permit you cannot water during periods of rain you cannot your that’s embarrassing but yeah when the sprinkler it rains three times a year and your spring goes out there it’s just you cannot irrigate landscape from between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. because evaporation yes you cannot have any of the stations in a on your sprinklers go for more than 15 minutes per station and that’s in ten minutes for other irrigation systems don’t know what it is can’t allow runoff onto the streets and gutter Han you cannot allow runoff onto streets and gutters from excessive watering watering these are things people cannot do oh it’s all premise with that at the top so Oh adding that for clarification hi yes so you can’t have a sprinkler that’s going off into you think it’s like why can’t you yet you want to wash the street sure we’re okay with that no you cannot do that and I got to say that even though I don’t own the house that I’m in right now the sprinklers I I have to constantly tell the guy to repair him because sometimes I’m like that one’s turned the wrong way or that one shooting out into the street I woke up at 5:30 the other day and I saw that happening there’s like some there’s like someone jogging on the opposite side of the street and they went getting hit and I would go you cannot install single-pass cooling systems and new buildings I don’t know what it is you can’t install I’m a such a big fan of those I’m really bummed about non-circulating systems and new car washing commercial laundry systems you can’t you cannot permit large landscape areas to water without rain sensors that shut off your game systems irrigation systems and you should it’s getting a little inform hotel and motel guests of the option to reuse towels and that’s why you see that in all the hotels that you go in and you should allow for exemptions for using grey water grey water yeah that’s me others don’t drink any grey wash what you made in there so it did look great it was brown okay
