to a book club I don’t know exactly what we call audible.com/gmm like we said it’s not too late to join up but yeah I don’t think you I let’s discuss the book the audiobook even if you didn’t listen to it along with us I highly recommend it I really enjoyed it and I’m sure rhett princess Rhett will be able to weigh in when he comes in first of all I’m kind of curious who is a huge fan of The Princess Bride Noah Lizzie – you’re huge fans normal people normal people um I guess I just had a weird childhood so I didn’t get to watch like movies that I should have watched like that here he comes but I I did watch the movie like two years ago with the kids it’s gonna be a long day daddy you should be thankful that I’ve got my Hindley on underneath this otherwise I’d be almost exposing myself why don’t you take the Hindley off I don’t think she would be wearing a Henley well I am looks like you kept your pajamas on and I am on I’m a modest princess anything what about the wig guys there’s no wig that’s right no we don’t my hair let’s go what wig is not part of the punishment I’m not gonna I’m not gonna make him do that um you know what I love the movie I watched it as a kid but I didn’t watch it like when everyone was enjoying it which is one of the interesting things that you learn from the book is that it wasn’t this huge box-office success it was right it was the video and just to give you a bad eh s give you a background about the book Kerry Ellis is the the star he’s them he’s the masked man in black Wesley Wesley and he’s right he wrote the book the basically steps through the whole process of the making of the film and I for anyone who’s a if you if you love the movie you should listen to the book or read the book if you haven’t and I think you’ll agree if you were listening along with us that even if you were just kind of like a casual fan like me but you like the idea of knowing the behind the scenes of filmmaking the way that he kind of stepped through everything I really enjoyed that aspect the things that kind of apply to just how movies are made and how they were made in the 80s um so I really appreciated that everything from like how he got the part how he’s dealing with his agent and and everyone else and kind of the jitters of performance and interacting with the other performers really stepping through the entire process gave me the hankering to make a movie anchoring you got a hankering yeah I got a hankering oh yeah this in my pocket I’ve I’ve always been like those are my favorite types of books to read or listen to and it was cool because of some about some creative process that I would love to be involved in and it had the different people who he wrote about they read their own accounts yeah he quoted them in the book but then in the audiobook they read it himself so like you got Billy Crystal he only read a little part I think he was on a telephone they couldn’t like really phoned it in literally literally funded in but Robin Wright Christopher Guest Robin Wright who’s a Claire underwood on house of cards yeah she was a Buttercup in the in the movie um I gotta say that my favorite part and this is probably the case for most people to read this book or is anything about Andre the Giant yeah you know it see what a he was like this figure and anybody who grew up in the in the 80s a figure in your childhood but you know one of the most famous pro wrestler probably the they made a claim in the book that he was the most famous actually the highest-paid pro wrestler of all time which I have it hard to have a hard time believing he’s getting paid more than the Hulkster but at the time just the the tale of how big he actually was and what that actually meant in terms of he was 500 pounds how much food he ate and how much all he drank right with because he had a really bad back and that’s how he kind of like self-medicated right but he was never like inebriated is what they said because he was so here so big we’re in except for this one that one story that he told about him like passing out in the bar and then the everyone they can’t move him so they just put a like they put a like rose ropes around him like a rope around so no one would move him or touch him and he slept there all night long and then what they couldn’t get him up and he just walked woke up this guy woke up and just walked out like eight bottles of wine by himself bottles and and Claire underwood Claire underwood tells the story of as wear a collar of they all sat down for like a crew meal and and they’re at this restaurant and he eats five hundred five entrees it’s like well well he is a giant and then she realized that was just his appetizer and then he was ordering his like main course of meals after that so that’s that’s pretty great and and then so I yeah I being a fan of wrestling like I watched a documentary about the Iron Sheik for an hour and a half the other night really yeah how’s that uh it wasn’t as good as the documentary about Andre the Giant that I watched a year ago I recommend that if you’re in not Andre the Giant yes he’s dead now so um God rest his big soul the the other thing that was where it was a was interesting and refreshing and maybe unexpected this because I realized that I’m a huge fan of Rob Reiner movies and without even really knowing all the stuff that he made but every vinyl tap does everything that they mentioned is something I’m like uh yeah that’s like stand by me yeah he’s just he’s great I mean he said he’s had a good run but the thing and that was after being an actor for years on all on the finger the thing that was so refreshing though is apparently according to Kerry who wrote the book is that he was nice he was like the nicest like he was nice like all the time he and he was like forgiving day things like hi Dylan Carrie you want his impression of the guys that plays one of the rats of unusual size who was a little person uh was this kind of rough guy from London and he had a really rough night and ended up in jail and he came to set that actually have the lead actor Carrie wrestle a rubber rodent because the guy didn’t show up and that he finally shows up like hours late like at the end of the day where you would think that the director would just fire you immediately for showing up and holding up a multi-million dollar shoot like that hmm and he was just like where are you Ben are you okay we’ve been worried about you he like brings them in and lets him act it out and like they listen to the guys story of like what had happened so every single example of so in other words you you can be a successful Hollywood director and not be a complete jerk that was one thing that I learned yeah and the fact that like that kind of set the tone on the set you know and for everyone’s experience was kind of dictated by who he was as a person and I think that was kind of that was an insight for me because as you know I’m a total jerk on a set you’re you’re the other thing that I learned and I feel kind of stupid about this being a fan of the movie not a super fan just saw it once when I was a kid and then once again as an adult never owned it is that it was a book it totally makes sense that it was a book but I always thought it was just like this cool thing that a bunch of comedians came together and did in the 80s hmm and but and I think the reason that I didn’t know it was a book is because it’s not an old book it’s a book written in 1972 by William Goldman who ended up being the screen writer for the screenplay who also wrote Butch Cassidy the Sundance Kid which I watched on the plane last week really yeah I thought she would watch that recently and you said well it’s kind of long it was a plane I guess that’s the point I watched it I mean I watch it like two years ago and then they’re taught it in my cube after that conversation and then every time I look about cute that movie makes me guilty because I still haven’t watched it like I literally feel guilt for having not well I was just like I know why well all this talk about how this this the script for the Princess Bride was so perfect and how the actors just trusted it and there was no like a lot of times you get into and you have to make something funny but they wouldn’t make anything funny and they didn’t play it for comedy they played it straight in so many different ways because it was so funny I was like I do remember Butch Cassidy the Sundance Kid being funny but it’s it I wouldn’t have categorized it as a comedy and then I went back and watch and I was like yeah I guess it wasn’t it was a little bit weird too at the same time like in a way that you would you would expect a Western to be so anyway and I appreciated the fact that he kind of put in perspective the things that like when you watch the movie now the things that don’t hold up like the rodents of unusual size like just big roots is little people in rubber suits right and it’s like well they kind of knew how that was going to come across it wasn’t just like they’re gonna all the audience is going to believe this even though it was the 80s it’s like we tend to think of the 80s movies now I was like that was that not only the best they could do but they thought it was good enough you know it’s I think and maybe this is hindsight but they were saying well you know it’s it’s gonna I hope is that this is charming and that just cheesy yeah and not just cheesy like we tried and failed but more like well we embrace this we embrace the fact that I’m running up the side of the cliffs of insanity at like a ridiculous speed yellow glitter Roman thanks thanks for that that’s part of your punishment you were just horrible at a decipher I mean just go I mean the only one that I it’s Indian what do you think about me I feel legitimately bad about is in because I wasn’t listening by that point because Hydari lust was the Shrek when I just let it wash right over me without listening to the detail but I crafted it and then what I had to put in Donkey and I changed it to mule so I I knew if I like I got to go another point if I said donkey and then I said he was riding up with me and then I said wouldn’t you say riding because he didn’t ride on the mule I said with a mule I would have got it because I wasn’t processing the details I was just like alright I’m gonna I’m gonna be wrong but I just think there’s no way to know honestly some of those were so crazy that you’re just like what yeah what do I have to go on right if they’re willing to have lean in my cut they’re stepsons head off and feed it to the father yeah kids gotta love me kids gotta learn yeah kids gotta learn that’s what that moral the story kids gotta learn might get yet
