I'm Mckenna Grace and this is my last
meal.
>> [bell]
[music]
>> Every person has exactly two things in
common. We all got to eat and we're all
going to die. Today's guest is an actor,
producer, and musician who you might
recognize from The Handmaid's Tale, Five
Nights at Freddy's 2, and Scream 7. She
plays Mazie Donner in The Hunger Games:
Sunrise on the Reaping out in theaters
on November 20th. And when she's not
conquering all of Hollywood, well, you
can catch her with, let's say, a series
of eclectic pets. Mckenna Grace, welcome
to the show. [laughter]
Um, I know you once tried to take home a
stray pigeon.
>> How do you know about that?
>> Well, I'll tell you what happened.
>> How do you find out all of these things?
I've always wondered that watching this.
How do you know everything?
>> in the ether, Mckenna. Well, we actually
did make contact with one of your pets.
Can we
We found
Theodore Thistle on the side of the
road.
Mckenna, do you Do you have anything to
say to Theodore?
>> Where have you been? Theodore, where
have you been, loco?
>> [laughter]
>> Oh my god.
I've been like
You know, the thing is, they wouldn't
let me take him home cuz I was shooting
in Canada and I had never seen a
tumbleweed before. If that's not like if
this was not the most homeschooled thing
you've ever seen.
>> [gasps]
>> I'd never seen a tumbleweed before and I
wanted to take him home and we named him
and they made him a name badge and then
nobody let me take him back to America.
How did you get here, bro?
>> Well, they told you that they were
taking you to a farm that he was going
to live a good life. They didn't They
left him on the side of the road and he
He's gotten a little more prickly since
you last seen him.
>> I'm so sorry. [laughter]
>> We can just
If you're not ready for this
emotionally, we can just sit here and
talk.
>> to do this on camera right now. Like
>> can I'm so sorry. Can we fly Theodore?
He's going to go to He's going back to
the farm.
>> Maybe we No, no, no, no. Oh, okay.
>> [laughter]
>> Theodore's fine, Mckenna.
>> God.
Stupid, stupid.
>> [laughter]
>> I think you can forgive yourself. It's
your last meal. This is a time for
healing.
>> God, Theodore, this is selfish. I'm This
is my last meal. I'm going to die right
now.
>> Exactly. This is about you, Niki.
Normally I ask people if they've thought
about their last meals before, but
you're the first guest in history to
send us a PowerPoint presentation. And
if if you and I could could go through
that right now, and we'll we'll show
them of course.
>> Please, yeah.
>> really wonderful. So,
>> Can I give some [clears throat]
background?
>> I would love that, yeah.
>> Okay, so the context is that I was like
15 or 16 and I got the flu and I was
really sick. And I'm extremely
starstruck by you right now because this
is like everybody who knows me knows
that I'm a very big GMM and Mythical
Kitchen fan. And so
I got the flu and I was in bed for like
a week and so I just watched all the
episodes and I was
God, if I ever made it onto Last Meals,
what would my last meal be? And so I
just like worked on this and then I
called all my friends and made them
watch it. So,
>> Who [laughter] Other people have watched
this?
>> is I The thing is is that other memes of
you have been removed from this just so
that I could send it in and feel like
okay about myself and be like
>> What memes? What kind of what memes were
removed? There's a longer redacted
version?
>> Yes, there is a longer redacted
>> I was wondering why there were so many
older like older photos of me and then I
realized you made this like four years
ago.
>> this forever
>> barely existed.
>> I was a really big fan. I'm a big fan,
man. [laughter]
>> You would be both, dude.
>> This is massive for me.
>> is massive for me. We could both be big
fans. The The Lisa Frank design.
>> Thank you.
>> Nice cool DC. I love the big product.
>> Of course, little
>> It's nice.
>> I thought that you'd like this one.
>> Now, why did you think I'd like this
one?
>> Well, hang on.
>> Oh,
>> [laughter]
>> it turned into a rat.
>> I guess you didn't know that I'm a rat
too.
>> Do you know I
had that mustache for about three months
and for about two and a half of those
months I started at a new gym and I
shaved it. And they went, "Oh, we'd been
calling you mustache guy." And I went,
"What?" They're like, "Yeah, you were
mustache guy. You show up to a new place
with a mustache." I know when you're
making music, you make Google Slides
presentations on on the potential album
with color coding based on moods. Was
this color coded based on mood or this
is more just shading from
pink to purple?
>> I just thought it'd be exciting.
>> [laughter]
>> I just thought it'd be fun if for the
Mayans we have a different color and
then for the for the starters we have a
different color.
>> [laughter]
>> And now you started this with this is
stupid but literally angel hair pasta
and and I do think that's funny. A
little self-deprecation.
>> No, not at all. I like
No, no, this was you saying
>> I knew that you would end up reading
this whenever I sent it in and so I was
like, "Okay, like he's a chef and he
like made food for Gordon Ramsay and
like maybe I need to be like, 'Hey, like
I know this kind of stupid but I like
it.' I don't know. [laughter]
>> Not stupid at all. I think this is And
then now the lemon stew with 360 and now
that's really awesome. We love that.
French rabbit eating, lot of cute animal
imagery. Have you changed this like
since you made this like four years ago?
It's just stuck. You didn't have any
other
>> first was this is stupid and then I got
rid of like a slide or two that was like
this. I never thought that I'd have to
like show you this and then I thought
like
>> Oh, not have to be kind of get to.
>> Oh, did the frosting go away?
>> No, you added another animation.
>> [laughter]
>> Do you have stuff to do after this cuz
we can get you out of here. If you would
like to read the last
>> Maybe the real last meal was the friends
we made along the way.
>> And I think it is and I think it is.
>> And we haven't even had the last meal
yet.
>> [bell]
>> When we're creating our guest's last
meal, it may seem like we pulled all the
dishes from thin air but really we
planned for days. We sourced the best
ingredients and we even practiced
cooking every dish to make sure it is
the best version possible. And we're
doubly sure our dishes are at their best
because this episode is sponsored by
Kroger, our one-stop grocery shop. To
make this show as successful as it is,
we go to our local Ralphs, Mythical
Kitchen's go-to Kroger family store and
while it can be hard not to lollygag at
their deli counters and get distracted
by their pre-made food, it is very easy
to always find ingredients that we want.
And sometimes those ingredients are at
the deli counter and sometimes those
ingredients are procured by Doris at the
deli counter who always gives me all the
samples. I don't even have to ask for
them. She gets so excited about the new
brand of deli turkey that they've got
in. Good news, there's a new teriyaki
glazed one and yeah, it actually is
really good. But you have to go there
and get the fresh sliced American cheese
because that's the only way that it
melts properly over the burger and none
of the pre-packaged versions can really
stand up to it. So you got to go see
Doris. But those are the reasons that
I'm really excited to partner with
Kroger. I've been forming these genuine
relationships with people like Doris or
my guy Josh at the cheese counter at all
the Ralphs that I've been going to for
literally the last 25 years ever since I
started cooking as a little kid. So
thank you for watching this video. Thank
you to the Mythical Kitcheneers for
making incredible dishes. And of course
thank you to Kroger for being a sponsor
today's episode and our one-stop grocery
shop. Make Kroger your one-stop grocery
shop and make a meal for someone you
care about. I
I'm coming. Don't eat that. Hey, hey,
drop it. Drop it.
>> Oh my gosh, you guys are like turned
around. Hide it.
>> [laughter]
>> I'll introduce you to the chefs
afterwards.
>> Hi, pleasure. Big fan.
>> We started doing a creepy back turn
situation.
>> Okay.
>> You'll say, "Okay." [clears throat]
>> Okay.
>> McKenna, for the first course
>> Okay.
>> of your final meal on Earth, we have
a nice diet Coke,
>> Oh.
>> a
>> you.
>> the salmon teriyaki bao buns from
Shackfuyu in London. Would you like me
to honey butter the cornbread while it's
hot?
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
>> I would. Oh my gosh. This is Thank you,
guys.
>> Thank [laughter] you all.
>> Big fan.
>> Also, okay, so since you've watched the
show for a long time, um we used to just
have the food already on the table.
>> so good.
>> Right, but then we would
>> Wait, I'm going to take off my ring.
>> Take off your ring. Take off your ring.
But then we would miss moments like that
of you going, "Oh my god, look at that.
It looks so good." But now I feel like
really disrespectful of just having
people with their backs turned. It feels
very like
>> can't see that.
>> No, no, no.
>> They He Well, what happens off camera is
he yells at the chefs [music] and he
goes, "Turn around." And they can't see
it yet. And they stand and they're like
facing the wall and then they turn
around.
>> Yeah, well, normally they face the wall
for uniform inspections. They You may
have thought they were all just wearing
normal clothes. That is the sanctioned
uniform they have.
>> I did see it said like "Hell's Kitchen".
>> [laughter]
>> So, here we have our house-made
cornbread. Now, we cook this in a cast
iron with just an absolutely fatal
amount of butter and then we made a
lovely fresh honey butter by just
whipping a [music] ton of honey
together. Tell me about the cornbread.
>> Um I don't know. It was just I I used to
go to this place
um my dad and I always used to go there
and get cornbread [music] and like
burritos together. It was like a very
random mix of things. So, I don't know.
This and like getting crab cakes makes
me think [music] of like going on
dad-daughter dates.
>> Oh, that's so sweet.
>> Most of my food stuff is with my dad.
He's a big foodie. So, it's like all we
do is watch movies and eat [music] food
together.
>> Did he cook growing up?
>> No. I don't think I don't think he can
cook.
I don't think so. My mom's the cook.
She's a really good [music] cook.
>> You were also the first person to bring
a gift made by your mom. Thank you again
so much
>> [laughter]
>> for banana bread and we might have to
break that out for dessert.
>> It was exciting.
>> [clears throat]
>> Mhm.
>> Oh, what?
>> Did this awaken any memories of watching
like the Alien trilogy with your dad on
TV when you knew that your mom
disapproved of it?
>> Um maybe. I mean, I was like seven
whenever we did that. So, I don't know.
There's much of my dad's movie going
with me and my mom disapproves of. So,
>> Were there any horror movies that like
genuinely scarred you from a young age?
Cuz I can look back to watching the
movie Stigmata when I was like seven.
>> of that.
>> I don't think I don't We must have
gotten it off of like the 89 cent DVD
bin at a Walmart or something.
>> Mhm. Very recently, I remember watching
Longlegs in theaters and like watching
it like through my hands and on the
drive home I don't remember if I was
driving, but I kept on like checking my
rearview to see if anything was like
sitting in the backseat cuz it was super
late. So, I do remember having kind of a
visceral
frightening experience with that.
>> If I'm being honest, I'm so happy that
you're here promoting Hunger Games and
not something scary. I'm dead serious.
The only time I watch horror movies are
when I have to research a guest.
>> Really?
>> And I have legitimately, even when when
your or co-star Matthew Lillard was on
the show for for Scream 7, I never seen
>> Scream though, right?
>> No.
No, I've never seen any of them. I knew
the references. I'd seen Scary Movie. Oh
boy, do I love Scary Movie. And then I
will have to watch Scream for the first
time. And I texted KG, our producer,
who's in a Scream shirt right now. And I
texted her, "I thought this is a
post-modernist parody of horror movies.
I didn't know it was actually scary."
Cuz I would got genuinely scared as a
33-year-old man sitting on my couch
alone.
The Drew Barrymore when they show Drew
Barrymore Spoiler alert, Drew Barrymore
dies real quick, famously, and I didn't
[laughter] know that.
>> Yeah.
>> And when they show her her body just
hanging
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, no, I really didn't sleep well
that night.
>> Huh? Yeah, yeah.
>> Do you think there's any way to cure me?
Because I think people like you who
enjoy horror movies are probably correct
cuz that's like a very strong emotion to
elicit through a medium like film that
is very prevalent in human nature, but I
just can't get myself to do it.
>> don't know. It's just exposure therapy.
Like I feel like I've I'm also kind of
better with the gorier things like that
because it is like but my dad is a
surgeon. And so, all the time I see like
surgery things and like arms missing and
ridiculous
>> Wait, do you just like go visit him at
work like as he's surgerying?
>> I haven't visited, but he does I mean,
it's like, you know, he comes home and
he has like "Look at this. This is a
ball that goes in somebody's hip." And
I'm like, "Has that been in somebody's
hip?" Like And he's like, "Oh, well,
look at this. Like somebody's hand blew
up with a firework today." And I'm like,
"It is I feel like I'm a lot more used
to that kind of stuff because of him and
his line of work, and then also
you know, like working in acting, you
end up with wounds and all sorts of
craziness all the time that are fake.
>> Mhm. That all makes sense, yeah.
>> You know, so it's like you're kind of
around it, but
>> Especially maybe being part of the
production and like knowing how the
death scenes but to me it's like it's
not that I would think any of it's
actually real, of course.
>> It is weird that like, you know, we also
go to things like haunted houses or like
corn mazes or things like that.
>> do go to corn mazes and haunted houses,
all of us.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't know. It's It's strange that we
like to be scared as like humans. I
don't really know what that is, but
maybe it's I like a communal experience
whenever I go to the theaters and I hear
everybody laughing or crying [music] or,
you know, getting scared together. I
think that that's Like whenever I was a
kid and I I did one of the Annabelle
movies, I remember I watched it in a
screening with like a couple of critics
and my parents, and everybody [music]
was just like dead quiet. I was like,
"Oh my gosh, like I think like was the
movie awful? Like did I do bad? Like did
everybody hate it?" Like I think I don't
like the movie. And then I went and saw
it in an audience with like a bunch of
fans and
you know, horror fans and everybody
getting scared and reacting, and then it
like made it so much better to have that
shared experience, I guess. I don't
know.
>> No, that [laughter] that I think that's
especially like a generational thing.
You are the youngest guest we've ever
had on the show, by the way. Mazel tov.
You did it.
>> Thank you.
>> One of the youngest people to ever be
nominated for an Emmy for a guest
starring role. And then now one of the
youngest guests [laughter] on Last Meals
of your career. What is your exact
career?
>> My career's peaked here. It's all
downhill.
>> But like having that communal interest
and experience, I think is something
that frankly was like ripped away from a
younger generation, especially with
COVID. And then now people getting back
to it in in mosh pits and in horror
theaters. You know, I kind of like
really really love it and really vibe
with it.
>> All right, tell me about these salmon
bell buttons from Shack Pal you. And I
believe these do have a connection to
James Acaster.
>> Um yes.
>> Uh avid off-menu listener here. Shocked
that you've never been on the show.
>> Yeah. Gah. No.
>> James, Ed, invite her
>> Uh whenever we were shooting
Ghostbusters, the second one, Frozen
Empire, um we were living in London for
like
I don't know, five or six months, and I
mean, not that I would if I was of age,
but I'm not much of like a bar pub or
like a club or that kind of person, but
I was also 15, but I still am not. So, I
just like to go
>> though, in in Britain, what's the
drinking age? Like I I imagine if you're
like a 13-year-old who has a job in the
UK, you're allowed to go to a pub.
>> Honestly, maybe. It's like all of my
friends who are from London, definitely.
Um but my dad was coming out to visit,
and so I was asking James like, "Where
can I go? Like what's good?" And we came
here, and every time I go to London now,
I think that the location that I went to
though, like shut down or they moved it
or renamed it or something, but
>> called Flesh and Buns.
>> [clears throat]
>> I don't
>> Flesh and bu- It's a pun.
>> [laughter]
>> But
Really?
>> Mhm?
>> I thought that it got changed to like a
Wings, but I go to the one in SoHo.
>> Oh, uh Bone There's two. There's uh
a Bone Daddies. And Flesh
>> Flesh and Buns or Bone Daddies? I don't
know.
>> say like that. Just say it with a
straight It's Should we go to Flesh and
Buns or Bone
>> Should we go to Flesh and Buns or Bone
Daddies? It's like one of my favorite
foods, so.
But they also have a really good uh
matcha desserts here. They have like a
matcha
>> If only you were on a show where you
could request anything to eat.
>> I just wanted to let you know.
>> Mhm. So, we made the bao, freshly
steamed it in-house.
>> What?
>> And we actually contacted the chef chef
Fuyuh and talked to him about how
[music] to make the mayonnaise and the
crispy salmon. This is really delicious.
>> It's a really If you talk to him again,
will you tell him I'm a big fan of his
work?
>> [laughter]
>> Wait, whenever you were saying that this
is when we steamed it, are you showing
like clips of you guys doing that?
That's so good.
>> Yeah, yeah. We have a We did shoot this
morning. We did shoot them. I'm such an
absentee. I'm such an absentee host at
this point. I'm a to dad around here. Um
there's been a lot made about how many
different like beloved franchises that
you're a part of and they're all
franchises that you were like really a
fan of.
>> Mhm.
>> From now playing Daphne in Scooby-Doo,
Five Nights at Freddy's, The Hunger
Games, like you are a good case for the
fact that we're living in a simulation.
You know, do you ever think about that?
>> You sound like my mom.
>> [laughter]
>> Mom talked to me about simulation theory
a lot.
>> she has like every other week it's a new
theory. My favorite is that we're ants
in a cup and that the sky is a piece of
paper over the cup that we poked a bunch
of like a kid poked a bunch of holes in.
>> [music]
>> And that's what the stars are.
>> And what do you think about that? Do you
think either could be true?
>> I don't know. It'd be kind of fun to be
an ant.
>> [laughter]
>> It'd be kind of exciting.
>> Well, if you're like I imagine you've
had like
so, so many utterly surreal experiences
throughout your entire life.
>> Mhm.
>> Is there a time when you actually feel
like really grounded and like, oh, this
is this feels
very very real and like this is the true
me as opposed to all of these like
experiences where you're in this like a
hyperactive state of mind?
>> I don't know. It is weird. Like even
being here right now, like this is super
weird for me cuz
>> It's equally weird for me, believe me.
>> It's so strange. Like I can't
>> I it's hard for me to imagine that you
know who I am or like are aware of my
existence and like like I don't lie
about those. Like I mean, it'd be easy
to be like, oh my god, like I love this
so much and I'm so happy to be a part of
it. But it's like I don't see the point
in that. Like if I'm going to be a part
of something and then research it after
the fact, I'll just say that.
>> you know, I'm not going to lie, but I
have been
>> [music]
>> you know, lucky enough to be a part of
these franchises and these films and
stuff that I am such a huge fan of. And
so it definitely starts to feel like,
[music] I don't know, like
all the time I have like existential
like, oh my god, like I'm not real. Like
this isn't real. Like what's happening?
I get a lot of
it's a lot of imposter syndrome, too,
cuz I'm like I don't know why they hired
me for this. [music] Like I don't know
why they trusted me with this. Like I
hope that I can just do it justice.
>> One of like truly the greatest gifts you
can give people and you have given us
already so much even before you showed
up is just enthusiasm. [music]
And I like I truly believe that so much
people showing up and being earnestly
very into something and honest with
their emotions, I think completely
[music] rules. And I'm I'm genuinely a
big fan before you showed up and an even
bigger fan after.
>> Damn, I'm a big fan of these bao buns.
>> [bell]
>> Macaroni for course number two of your
final meal on it.
>> This [laughter] is what happens when the
main course comes in. What? This is so
fancy.
>> What did you just say?
>> This looks fancy.
>> Oh, the pasta. I thought you saw the the
the pizza. Um, we need to address uh
Thank you so much. You guys do great
work. I We'll bring him back. They'll
get their dues. Um, so this is the angel
hair that you had mentioned and and you
said in your own words
>> It's stupid.
>> It's not stupid. We have a whole bowl of
lemons.
>> "Oh, this looks fancy." And you're like,
"This?"
>> [laughter]
>> I I heard the I heard the I heard the I
heard
>> pizza and I was like, "No, but
>> Maybe the mac and cheese pizza does too.
This looks a lot more high-end than
whatever I get at Cici's.
>> It does it really cuz we did try and
emulate Cici's.
>> It looks high-end because we're here,
okay? Just let me be nice.
I'm I'm excited. I
>> [sighs]
>> Here we have some brown sugar milk tea
boba from Haiti. Emphasis on the brown
sugar here. We made sure to get it extra
sweet for you. We have the angel hair
pasta with butter and parmesan and then
just a whole bowl of lemons. We added a
little bit of lemon in there.
>> Do you like lemons?
>> I love lemons.
>> I love lemons. Do you ever eat a lemon
just like eat a lemon?
>> Uh no, but if you want to do it right
now for your last meal, I think I'd be
obligated to.
>> Yeah, if you did.
>> But do you eat the peel?
>> Yeah, I just take a bite. Cheers.
I just wanted to see if you would.
>> [laughter]
>> Have you never done this?
>> No, I didn't.
>> You do do this?
>> Yeah.
Yeah.
>> And you like it?
>> I mean, it's all right.
>> It's quite of actually. If you look at
like
>> [laughter]
>> movies, music, and food as a triangle,
I love music in the way that I love
food, which is to say I love intensity.
Not necessarily just eating a whole
lemon.
>> Oh.
>> But like I do dig on very, very intense,
bitter, and sour flavors, very spicy
flavors, whatever. I love the most
intense music possible. I love
>> You do?
>> I love your breakdown in "Ugly and
Rotten"
>> Thank you.
>> in the second half of the song, the like
super distorted guitar.
>> Mhm.
>> I've talked with Spencer Charnas about
you and how much I love the vocals in
"Stabbing in the Knife".
>> Matt Lillard's vodka release party.
>> Oh my god, of course.
>> But no, I I've loved Ice Nine Kills for
forever. Um we've had Serj Tankian and
Corey Taylor on the show, I know you're
>> That's so cool. I know you watched.
>> And like truly I I love that intensity,
but horror movies, there's such a big
link between that, and I think the link
is intensity,
>> Mhm.
>> that I don't want in my movies. I think
you love intense movies and intense
music,
>> Yeah.
>> and then your food shades so far towards
comfort despite eating lemons like a
gremlin.
>> [laughter]
>> But
>> Hey, look.
It's my last meal. If it was my last
meal, I want to be comfortable, AND I
WANT TO EAT ANGEL hair pasta and mac and
cheese pizza.
>> Legitimately in my
>> Like the home-schooled child that I am.
>> In my last meal, I would just have like
habaneros on the side, and I would just
be eating them on the side. So like I
fully fully understand that. But this
obviously shades so deeply towards
comfort. What do you think that says
about you?
>> to squeeze a lemon on.
>> I'm so sorry.
>> [laughter]
>> Come on.
I don't know. I I'm not very adventu-
I've never been very adventurous with my
foods, in case you couldn't tell. Um I
was an only child and very
home-schooled, and all I did was like
you know, all I did was work. I grew up
on sets, and so it's like you go to set,
and half the time, you know, I mean, you
never know if the catering's going to be
good, and that's that's scary to put it
in the hands of whatever's going on.
>> I don't mean
>> [clears throat]
>> I'm not trying to be insulting, but what
I was going to say, no, it's a sick
Italian child thing.
>> Mhm.
>> Every time an Italian sees Americans eat
pasta with butter and cheese, they're
like, this is only for a sick children
because they cannot stomach the acid of
the tomatoes or anything.
>> Thank you. Anyways.
>> Sometimes I feel like I'm not very good
at being
>> [laughter]
>> a dinner dinner guest.
>> No, this is great. It's always like
those memes where it's like, this would
kill a Victorian child. Well, this would
kill one.
>> [laughter]
>> Think it really would?
>> Yeah.
>> Neapolitan peasant child.
>> Jeez.
>> Naples had one of the biggest and worst
cholera outbreaks in the 1850s. Did you
guys know about that?
>> I did not. Were you there?
>> No, I read a I read a great [laughter]
book about it though.
Megan, I was also a weird kid. I don't
know if you can tell.
>> [laughter]
>> Wait, wait, but your music taste.
>> Oh, yeah. No, complete pivot on the
subject from cholera. People don't want
to talk about cholera. When you covered
My Way by Limp Bizkit at Lollapalooza in
2024,
why did you choose to go with a red
fitted cap when we all know Fred Durst
wore a black fitted cap in the music
video?
>> All that I could get and I wanted to
look like Fred Durst and it was just the
pictures of Fred Durst, okay? I wasn't
going off the music video. I was just
looking at pictures of Fred Durst.
Whenever you think of Fred Durst, do you
think of him with his red hat?
>> I didn't mean to hit you with a gotcha
question. I didn't mean to hit you with
a gotcha. I didn't mean to come in here.
>> Nobody wanted me to cover my Limp Bizkit
song.
>> Wait, who's nobody? Nobody wanted you to
cover that?
>> Well, it was like a I mean, I don't make
that kind of music and so it's more like
choose something that suits your voice
or choose something and I'm like,
I'm like, at Lollapalooza, I was playing
three shows that day and I was like, I
want to cover Limp Bizkit. Like it just
sounds fun. Like that's me.
Um, I'm going to try this.
Um, but, you know, it was I didn't think
that anybody liked that. So, thank you
for bringing that up. That was like my
Yeah, I was very excited about that.
That was for my dad.
>> I loved it. It was genuinely so sick.
Like one, the fit, wearing like the
dress and the red fitted cap, and then
you really going in on the song. That
was like really incredible and I'm like
surprised that more people don't talk
about it.
>> Geez, thanks. That's very kind. I am
Yeah, I don't know. That's like my
favorite kind of music.
Oh my god, everybody on the internet
always gets mad about something. I
remember I said in an interview that I
really like like heavy metal and I like
metal music and everybody and then I
listed a bunch of new metal artists and
everybody's like "Argh, like she don't
know argh argh argh."
>> Yeah.
>> I like all I like metal music and I like
every genre that fits under that. I'm
not going to sit here and like talk
about Lorna Shore or something. Like I
have to be in a very specific mood for
that.
>> Will Ramos and Lorna Shore enjoyer over
here.
>> I mean, yes.
>> hell out of here. How are you like the
coolest person [laughter] in the world?
This is nuts.
>> Also, quickly I just want to say this is
amazing. This is great. Very happy. This
is
>> Wait.
>> Cheers.
>> I'll re-ask the question cuz we got a
whole other song to talk about after
this.
>> is CiCi's Pizza. This is my This is my
jam.
What?
>> We're going to deeply resist the urge to
like
be chefy about it. Because a lot of us
are like, "Oh man, if you use like
>> And this is kind of chefy like CiCi's
Pizza or This is
>> I mean, does it Does this How does this
compare to real CiCi's Pizza? Cuz we
tried to remake it here.
>> quality, for sure.
>> Is it really? We We did make a cheese
sauce. So, that's what is
>> Oh, I can tell.
>> is the glue.
>> Like realistically, if I'm going to die,
I'm going to ball out. I'm going to eat
all the bread I want. I'm going to eat
all the cheese I want. I'm going to eat
the pasta. I'm going to put the pasta on
the bread. I'm going to put the pasta on
the cheese and the cheese on the pasta.
>> you just turned this into a pot pie. Why
stop there?
>> [laughter]
>> I think you just turned it into a pot
pie and wrapped it in a tortilla.
>> that's a little bit too adventurous to
me.
>> See? See? You find me making it into a
chimichanga. [laughter]
>> I mean,
I'm exa- like if I'm going to die, I'm
going to ball out. So, I This is a very
heavy meal. Thank you for
>> No, listen. I'm having
>> making this happen.
>> I'm having the best time. This is
wonderful. Who decided in the song
Twisting the Knife that you shouldn't
add a proper scream breakdown in there?
>> That wasn't me. I asked I was be- I kept
on being like, "Guys, like we got to go
heavy. Like we got to We got to put a
scream in there." And they were like,
"We could." but it was also to kind of
be Thank you."
>> Absolutely.
>> Or the story of the
>> If you really want to ball out.
>> I don't know why, but every Oh. Oh.
I'm glad to see that you're cereal
first.
>> Yeah. Come on.
>> If you're
>> I was a weird kid. I wasn't weird enough
to go
>> If you're milk first, then it's like
very upsetting.
>> What's that?
>> bad because you were serving everything,
and so I wanted to serve. And then I
apologized that like my finger was on
the inside of the bowl. I promise my
hands are clean. I washed them recently.
Or actually, wait. Look. I didn't even
touch the inside of this bowl. Boom.
Now you can
>> you want to switch it?
>> Yeah, because I felt bad.
>> No, but now But then now you sort of
like put a burden on me, and of course
I'm [laughter] doing the proper waiter
thing going comes up and I go, "No."
>> Oh, man. But then my my hand was like on
the thing of it.
>> I put my fingers now in both So I think
what you have to do is sort of like
lick the finger and run it around the
rim and make like a like a noise. Like
do like a symphony kind of thing.
>> [laughter]
>> I'm sorry.
>> I think we've both established this fact
that we are gross and don't believe in
the germ theory of disease, despite the
fact that your dad's a doctor.
>> I'm not gross. I promise.
>> Have you ever been I mean, go into a
metal show. You're in a mosh pit. You're
just You're
smashed and sweaty. There's open wounds.
>> I love it. What's your favorite cereal?
>> Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds.
>> Huh.
>> Ours has been sold as a kid. Deceptively
sugary. It sounds healthy. It's not.
>> Is any cereal, even like the healthy
ones?
>> Yeah, we really once we figured out
science, we're like, maybe we shouldn't
be feeding this to children every single
day.
>> Yeah, why did we even have to discover
it? Just don't tell me. I'm just going
to eat it.
>> Well, you know about the guy who like
Like you know about the guy who
discovered it and why, right? James
Caleb Jackson.
>> Please.
>> Working off of the guy who invented
graham crackers.
>> Mhm.
>> Very like religious cult that believed
that vegetarianism and a grain-based
diet and abstaining from all alcohol and
impure thoughts would like lead you to
piety.
>> Oh.
>> And that's why they invented a
cereal. They called it Granula.
But then,
William Henry Kellogg
>> Granula?
>> Yeah. I don't know I don't know why he
changed it to Granula. Maybe it's a
trademark thing.
>> Other than that, and then
>> They're born anew.
>> William Henry Kellogg invented corn
flakes
>> Ah.
>> um at his sanitarium [music] where he
was treating people with mental illness
and tuberculosis.
>> Oh.
So, he gave them
>> What are the weirdest facts you know?
>> [laughter]
>> I do know how to um
Well, I probably don't in real life, but
I play this Roblox game.
I play this game
um
where I
and I make my boyfriend do this, too. I
>> [music]
>> chase tornadoes. Like I play like a
one-to-one accurate like tornado chasing
game. So, I read all the maps and like
whenever it's turning and you can see
where it's going and I like got like
this real game. I don't know. I like to
read tornado maps. I do a lot of I
really like tornadoes. [music] So, I'm
trying to learn more about those.
>> That's a pretty Do you have any good
tornado facts? I feel like you have to.
>> I just know how to hunt them on video
games.
>> You co-wrote a movie with your dad
called The Bad Seed.
The Bad Seed Returns. That was so dark
that they literally made you cut scenes
from it.
>> Yeah, well then again, we were also
putting it on Lifetime.
>> Sure, sure, sure, sure. But it was also
a movie about a psychopathic killer
child.
>> Mhm.
>> Played by you wonderfully, masterfully.
>> Thank you so much.
>> Um twice. Um
what were the dark scenes that got cut
and where did they come from?
>> We were very inspired by Pet Sematary, I
think, for like the little boy. Or like
the little baby. And so, I think that I
think that the like like the kid died
and they made us cut it.
And then we like rewrote it and we tried
to leave it ambiguous. And then they're
like, "No." Like
>> Kid died.
>> No, you can't kill the
>> Stop killing the kid.
>> Like baby. Um so
>> Baby live. Whatever, the kid had to
live.
>> [laughter]
>> Um I think that that happened. I think
that we also had like a very like
American Psycho inspired thing where
like I had a raincoat. Like it was Look,
my dad and I really like horror movies.
So, we were just trying to think of
something like brutal and intense. and
there was a lot of scenes that got cut.
>> You really give off brutality and
intensity with the mac and cheese pizza.
>> Well, thank you. I try.
>> You ready to go on to course number
three?
>> Absolutely.
>> [bell]
>> Mckenna, for the third course of your
final meal on Earth. Now,
this is not anything
>> god! Y'all just set me up. I knew I
could smell it in the air and I then you
brought in butter and I was like, I
don't think a cotton candy blizzard
comes with butter.
>> Well, no it does not. But what does is a
Papa John's pepperoni pizza. Now, this
is not from Papa John's. I know you're
partial to it. I only know that because
you were on a show called Good Mythical
Morning.
And you admitted on that show to two
guys in Rhett and Link. They're almost
50, they look incredible. Uh
>> [laughter]
>> you you admitted that you would never
had pepperoni pizza, uh a cheeseburger
or buffalo wings.
>> Can I be honest with you guys? Is this a
safe space?
>> Uh
>> Yeah.
>> [laughter]
>> Then I don't want to share my story.
>> Okay, share your story. Yes, very safe.
No judging.
>> pepperoni on my pizza before. I've never
had pepperoni pizza.
>> You've never had a chicken wing?
>> No.
>> Really?
>> No, god Stevie, I haven't.
>> [laughter]
>> I've also never tried a burger. So, it's
not that there's no desire for these
things. It just feels like stop it. I
want it to be the right burger.
>> Seeing as this is your last meal on
Earth, I am here to challenge you to
have these experiences for the first
time with me. And not only that,
Mckenna, I have made a PowerPoint
presentation.
>> [clears throat]
>> Oh my god, this is the best day of my
life.
>> Foods Mckenna needs to try before she
dies. Don't read the slack messages that
are coming in.
>> Okay, I'm sorry.
>> That's you, you're done. [laughter]
You're dead now. This is a skeleton.
>> the thing that I do.
>> And why she should try them with Josh.
That's me.
>> Oh my god!
Oh.
>> Number one, pepperoni pizza. Um your
first commercial was for Charles
Entertainment Cheese.
>> Charles.
>> And the top selling pizza at Freddy
Fazbear's, if it canonically reflects
the real world, is likely pepperoni at
24%. Is it pronounced Fazbear?
>> Mhm.
>> hard A?
>> No, Fazbear.
>> Fazbear or Fazbear?
>> Fazbear.
>> Fazbear, okay. It's It was Armenian?
>> Huh?
>> I've made many pizzas on the show
including one that angered the entire
city of Spokane, Washington. I had to go
on their local news to um apologize. Uh
I've made many pizzas uh for that's
Don't mind that one. I should have
deleted that slide. Uh I had a
I had a slide in my PowerPoint that I
had to remove because you have all the
pictures online of you like flexing and
like working out and stuff and so I had
a picture [laughter] of you
>> I used to be thinner BACK THEN.
>> LIKE THAT IN MY POWERPOINT and I got to
get rid of it cuz I was like I can't
>> Did I have a ham? Was I holding a ham?
>> Possibly. I don't remember. It I I
deleted it and I was like I can't turn
this in. Sorry. Anyways.
>> I wrote a cookbook with Rhett and Link
and I said
>> Yeah, you did.
>> I've had pizza with 23 different last
meals guests including Matthew Lillard.
>> that guy.
>> Brie Larson.
>> younger.
>> And Meghan Trainor.
>> I LOVE HER.
>> AND ALL of them made pepperoni pizza
with me.
>> No.
>> Cheeseburger. I once I once had
somebody's first ever burger. This is
it. Let's talk about that episode from
2019.
>> that. I love hearing them say that. Oh,
it's me.
>> Your name is basically Berg. Er.
It's right there.
We've eaten hamburgers with 24 people on
the show including Link's meal.
>> Oh my god, I love him. He's my brother.
>> and J.K. Simmons.
>> a movie with him.
>> Were you ever in the same scenes?
>> Yes.
>> Hell yeah, dude.
Number three, buffalo wings.
Famous heavy metal band Cannibal Corpse
was formed in Buffalo in 1988.
>> Okay, word.
>> Word?
>> Word.
>> a matter of time before you go on Hot
Ones 30 Scooby-Doo Origins season 7,
probably. You're going to have to
>> Please, please, please.
>> You're going to have to get on it.
You're hurtling towards being the most
popular movie star in the world. You
need to What's that? Relate to the
people.
>> Why is this like an intervention?
>> There's more graphical elements.
>> Graphics.
>> We ate buffalo wings with nine people
including Gordon Ramsay and Elijah Wood.
>> He's so good at having eyes.
>> He is. Oh my god.
>> He's so good at having eyes.
>> But I've never eaten all three with one
celebrity.
>> [clears throat]
>> Until now.
>> Oh.
>> What do you say?
What do you say?
>> Oh, jeez.
Jeepers.
I agree to your proposition.
>> Thank you so much.
>> [laughter]
>> Oh.
>> Uh, where do we start? What do you What
are you most excited about first?
>> I [snorts]
Oh, I promised Mason I was going to try
a burger with him for the first time.
He's going to be mad at me tonight. But
I
>> have to. You don't have to. I don't want
You don't have to choose between me and
Mason. I didn't
>> [laughter]
>> I don't want to Mason, I'm so I didn't
mean to let that happen. Okay.
>> I mean, okay, look. Also, everybody
wanted to murder me after I said that.
It is not my fault I hadn't tried them.
I was a Look, I was a vegetarian for 7
years. I was a vegetarian for 7 years
and I was a super picky eater. I hadn't
tried these before.
>> They get We went really classic with
this. This is a double smash burger,
little bit of special sauce, some
pickles on there, lightly caramelized
onions. This is about as quintessential
of a burger as you can get.
>> What double commit?
>> I don't know what.
>> Double commit.
>> What you doing? Are you having a good
time?
>> A burger.
It just tastes like meat and
>> [snorts]
>> and sauce.
>> Mhm.
>> And cheese.
I remember after that episode came out,
oh my god, everyone was so mad at me and
they're like, "This is what happens when
like
you grow up as an actor and you're rich
and blah blah blah." And I was like, "I
just ate buttered noodles." It was like
as a kid, it was like I was just like I
have no excuse. I was just like stupid.
>> I kind of I see you read comments.
>> I read a lot of comments but not all of
them. I didn't read comments for most of
my career until I started doing like
Hunger Games and Five Nights and things
like that because I'm such a big fan and
as a fan, like if I knew that the actor
portraying like one of my favorite
characters was reading the fan theories
or reading what we wanted to happen,
then like you know,
I feel like I'd feel more at home about
them playing the character and more
comfortable with it. And you know,
there's like Twitter gets mad at me
sometimes and so I read it and I'm like,
oh god, what can I do better? And I'm
like, I need to try and burger, I guess.
So thank you for this.
>> You're welcome, but now I'm nervous that
I've set off a chain reaction of
something that I don't understand.
>> just wait. Just wait.
>> Oh no. Oh no. But I I do agree with you
that it's this weird catch-22 of like I
love the fact that people interact with
the show and I I love reading the nice
things that people send me and actually
I was looking for my
I go on desktop on Instagram.
Um
I'm looking like old grandpa at the
public library.
>> On Instagram. But for real, I was like
looking for it like info in a DM
>> [music]
>> and just just saw somebody just sent me
like the most vile things. They and
they've been sending me messages. They
hate me personally. And I was like, god,
I was literally like looking for an
address from like a friend cuz they
didn't have they couldn't text at the
time, you know what I mean?
>> It's hard [music] to miss.
>> It really is.
>> The the mean things are a lot louder
than the nice things sometimes. [music]
So
I don't know. I just I just try to just
go and I do my silly little job and then
I get to eat food with you
and do silly little things like this and
be happy about it. So
>> Is that how you view it? Those kind of a
silly little job? So I mean it is
something like you've been acting since
you were four or five years old. You
know, it's the only kind of
modality you've known.
>> It it is silly. Like I I go on set and I
play pretend and I go and dress up and
like, oh no, Freddy Fazbear, don't bite
me.
>> [laughter]
>> You know, so it's like I go and I do
things and it's ridiculous and I feel
like we're like if I was taking it too
seriously or I didn't like what I was
doing then I'd be in it for the wrong
reason and I would like if I wasn't
having fun then it's like what's the
point of doing it? So I don't know. I
always try to have fun. I'm just I'm
thankful and feel very blessed to be
doing like what I love and doing my
dream job. So I don't know. It's a silly
little job. I like go around and I play
pretend.
>> No, it is by definition really silly.
Also, please dig into the pizza. So, we
do have This is our our homemade version
of um
>> Papa John's garlic butter sauce.
>> Ooh.
>> And so,
>> is my favorite. Oh, jeez.
>> You got to stir the garlic
>> off of the bottom if you wish to
partake. Do you partake in the Papa
John's
um sauce or the uh the hottest peppers
in the world? Not spice, but heat. They
sit them atop the pizza and they steam.
>> Ugh.
>> Ugh.
>> [laughter]
>> I'm sorry. That was so rude. I'm so
sorry. That's awful. You should do it.
>> I know.
>> It's like the lemon.
>> Oh, man. You tried a lemon with me, and
so now I have to.
>> Do the whole thing.
>> that to me?
>> the F-word. It's like really rude.
>> say it. I don't I I just I'm really bad
with spicy.
>> She was She was cursing up a storm off
camera. She [laughter] was back there
>> No, I wasn't.
>> Oh my gosh. Oh, jeepers. Makena was just
going off. I've never even heard some of
those words strung together in the way
that she did. I was like, "Can you even
do that? What does that mean?"
>> to talk about that.
>> Does that mean that the that it's
encompassing the or does that mean that
it's in its wolf?
>> I'm really bad with spicy.
How could I like that?
>> I'm so sorry.
>> God.
>> I didn't I didn't mean to make you do
that.
>> It's kind of a weird taste.
>> What do you know about pepperoni? Like,
do you know what animal it's from?
>> No.
>> It doesn't matter. It's It's It's
[laughter] pig now. You're fine.
>> No. Is it spicy?
>> Little bit.
>> Oh, yeah.
Lemon.
Good. It's fine.
>> Look at me.
>> It's fine.
Makena Grace.
>> Look at me.
>> Man of the people.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't know about that.
>> Chicken with mac and cheese?
>> I'm pretty down with this. I'm down with
the notion of pepperoni pizza.
>> You never got a classic school
experience?
>> No.
>> Are there any like first that people
would normally have at school that you
missed having? Like, "Oh, man. I really
wonder what my first varsity football
game would have been like."
>> I don't know. The one thing that I
always really really wanted was like
a prom or like a school dance. That was
the only thing that I really [music]
felt super left out about cuz it is it
is weird to miss that total social
experience. But like the one thing was
prom and I luckily I got to go to three
because I [music] just told all of my
friends I was like, "Hey, if you're
single and you need a prom date, like
I'll I'll come with you." And so I went
to a prom in Atlanta, I went to prom in
Irvine, I went to prom in Burbank. I was
like hitting all the stops, McKenna
Grace's prom tour 2024.
>> Listen, a Burbank prom I think is about
the height the pinnacle of the human
experience.
>> You know, I know you're going to be
getting like standing ovations at the
Cannes Film Festival, but like no, no,
no. Burbank prom
>> Actually, I don't know if it was
Burbank. I think it might have been
Beverly Hills.
It was very It was very different. It
was very fancy and very ridiculous.
>> Uh buffalo wings.
>> Okay, buffalo wings. I'm sorry.
>> Awesome. So you're going to be on Hot
Ones at some point.
You know, um
>> I don't think I'd survive on that show.
>> Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping Part
2 Electric Boogaloo. I know it's in
production.
>> I think this one seems kind of exciting.
Oh, these are messed up.
>> So there are two parts to the wing. So
there are flats and there are there are
drums.
>> Oh.
>> And you've already picked wrong, but
that's totally fine. So go ahead and
>> Damn it. You know this is my first time
doing this.
>> I know. I I really that was a
dereliction of duty. So that is those
were declawed. So you're going to want
to twist out the smaller bone.
So that's the bigger bone. Smaller bone,
I'm going to gesture with my own chicken
wing, is that part. So you're just going
to go and twist it out.
>> Oh.
>> [laughter]
>> It comes with like an action.
>> Yeah, yeah. And so this is like if you
think about your forearm, how there's
the radius and the ulna, your dad's a
surgeon. There's a radius and an ulna.
You're effectively twisting out the
That's the ulna. Yeah, yeah. And so what
I do is I go to the thicker the thickest
part. There's a thinner part and a
thicker part on the bottom and top.
>> You can't It's so you're not allowed to
just eat it?
>> No, no, no, no. You you don't want to
throw that throw that part away. that
away.
>> not the bone. but you can't just eat the
thing without [music]
>> Absolutely not. So, now what you're
going to do is you're going to hold it
by the top here.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah,
>> [clears throat]
>> tight tight tight tight. You're going to
dip it in ranch dressing.
>> I don't have to get rid of the big bone.
>> No, no, the big bone's key and you'll
see why.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't understand. This is my first
time eating
>> You also might just walk away after you
see what I'm about to do and then that's
perfect.
>> Yeah, right.
>> So, what I do is I go
>> Oh.
Well,
well, that was exciting. I think I'm
just going to Can I just
Do I have to take all of this off?
>> you want to for your own comfortability
at this point.
>> I'm scared.
>> The only ingredients are hot sauce and
butter. It's not spicy. It's very mild.
We did make it very mild. We know you
don't like spice.
That's a good segue. In an interview
when you were 11 years old, McKenna,
>> What?
>> you said that
it's important that you remain humble
because every movie could be your last.
As an 11-year-old, you said that, which
is kind of like heartbreaking, but also
like
very attuned with the realities of the
world. Do you still believe that?
>> Sorry. I was just taking in that.
I don't know how I feel about it. I
don't think I don't I don't know if
I don't know if a wing is for me.
>> What what part was uh
>> I don't know.
>> Was it the the dissecting of the animal
bone?
>> was definitely interesting.
>> Yes. They do boneless wings for
>> for people like me.
>> I love
>> Go on. Say it.
>> I can't watch a horror movie trailer.
Last time I did, I went to see Nope,
which is not a horror movie, but the
problem is they did trailers for horror
movies and I physically I went
>> The trailers?
>> for Smile
and I went
and I jumped into my best friend's arms
across the seat. Whole theater turns
back.
>> Scooby-Doo like stuff.
>> actually like that.
>> Oh, wow.
>> So, we all have our own things and our
own levels of comfortability.
>> Yeah, I don't I definitely It's like I
said, I feel just like thankful to be
working and to be able to do
>> [music]
>> any of this that I'm doing. I'm just
like I'm just happy to be alive. Like
it's just like I don't know. I love what
I do and so [music] I definitely try to
have the mentality of like this is the
best day of my life. Like I'm so excited
to be here and this could be my last
film. So I should go about it with like
>> [music]
>> the respect for the project that I'm
doing that
you know, it doesn't matter if it's a
big franchise or something that I'm
doing because I love it. Like I should
treat everything with like the utmost
care and like [music] respect for the
character and the writing and the script
and so I definitely try to treat
everything like it could be my last cuz
you never know. It could be. [music] Who
knows? Who knows? AI is going to take
me.
>> [laughter]
>> Kiernan Shipka is going to
>> [gasps]
>> Everybody says that her and I look the
same.
>> 100%. I mean you played young Kiernan
Shipka. Also
very eclectic taste in food. Kiernan she
eats at all the restaurants. No, no, no,
but yeah I've like seen her at LA
restaurants. Kiernan come come on the
show. You ready to go into the final
course?
>> I'm very ready. Thank you for Thank you
for giving me this experience. So I am
frightened. I am frightened [music] to
watch this back, but I I enjoyed this.
This was fun.
>> [bell]
>> Kiernan for the final course of your
final meal on Earth we have cotton candy
blizzard gooey brownies
just just whole things of frosting with
a spoon. Yeah, I'll look away when you
do that. Um and then
>> I could finish that whole thing.
>> That's it.
>> Oh man.
>> Which brownie do you want? Do you go
center or do you go corner?
>> Uh
I don't know. I kind of like these guys
cuz then you get the edge of the corner,
but then you still have like the center
kind of feel. You know what I mean?
>> Smart smart smart.
>> And I've always said that. I'm not just
making that up right now.
>> [laughter]
>> People have all these like very strong
opinions about the kind of lasagna or
whatever. I'm just like man what a
blessing it is that we get to eat food
>> Yeah.
>> all the time. Oh just just thick. I'm
going to right for the flaminy on of it.
Oh this is
>> Mhm. I'm excited. Hey, cheers. Oh, this
is so great.
Oh.
Oh jeepers.
>> Oh jeepers indeed. Oh fiddlesticks. I'll
have to hit them with a fiddle stick
sometimes.
>> Ah, fudge pops.
>> There was a really excellent profile of
you in Teen Vogue called Mckenna Grace
Relentless Optimist.
>> Oh, okay.
>> That showed how much you like really
claw to find the bright side of
everything and that's very much
something that I've noticed even being
with you for
a couple hours. Um, there was a time in
your life when
>> [music]
>> you had to relearn how to walk.
>> Mhm.
>> That is really incredible and I didn't
know about that until I read that in
this article because you have just been
consistently working since you were five
and in between filming Handmaid's Tale
and Ghostbusters, you're getting spine
surgery and relearning how to walk.
>> Yeah.
>> That is incredible.
>> Mhm.
>> How much harder is it to find the bright
side of things when you are facing
something that I'm sure at the time was
like existentially truly terrifying?
>> I don't know for anybody who's been
through surgery like that or, you know,
gone through the pain of like having a
severe injury. It's like at the time
you're kind of just like you know, I was
like wailing. I was like, "Oh my god,
like this pain is never going to end.
Like I'm going to live the rest of my
life just like in so much pain. Like I'm
never going to heal." And, you know, you
do.
But it's just like whenever you're in
it, it's hard to
see the other side of it.
So,
I don't know. I just I feel very
thankful to, you know, like have my back
fixed and to be able to walk and to be
able to do what I love and to get to eat
good food and to like I have, you know,
a happy and healthy family and to have
the people I love okay. So, it's
I don't know. I just try to look for the
things that are good because I
definitely went through
a very intense few years of like not
seeing the bright side of anything and
so
>> Well, especially when your entire life
has been based around the projecting
images of you to millions of people.
Like, yeah, that's again existentially
terrifying.
>> See, you know, it's like I I definitely
had a hot minute of just like and I mean
also I feel like that comes with growing
up and being a teenager like all of the
intense emotions that come with that but
um
>> I was trying to get more playing time on
the junior varsity basketball team at
that age. Not even varsity that old that
was a next year problem. That was just
junior varsity and we had about 30
people at each of our games so yeah and
that felt like a lot of pressure. But
like truly I mean there's I think a
certain amount of like um healthy
optimism but then there's also a certain
amount of like very healthy and
reasonable fear. You know what I mean?
>> No completely I mean
terrified of like every I'm just like
scared of being perceived but that's my
entire job you know.
So it's like I just try to
take everything with a grain of salt and
just be like okay well you know now I'm
going to go and do this and I'm going to
enjoy it and I'm going to like what I
like and hopefully people like me it's
like there's nothing I can do so
I don't know I just try to have a good
time and
make the people around me happy cuz it's
like what's the point if I'm not having
a positive impact at least um
but you know I mean I'm also so thankful
now to be sitting here and like have
I was not thankful for it at the time
but to have metal rods in my spine that
like make me sit up straight and also to
have a healthy relationship with food
and have a healthy relationship with all
of this kind of stuff and to be I don't
know able to say that I'm on the other
side of it and that it does
get better because at the time I was
also like writing music I had this song
that came out called self dysmorphia and
I put it out and it was just kind of
about
how much I hated myself. And I went
around like promoting it um and it's
like [music] I couldn't have an answer
on you know like what do you do like to
get rid of those emotions or what do you
do to feel better about it it's like I
didn't
have an [music]
answer at all and it's hard to like
listen to somebody and be like oh yeah
right like
I hold like there's another side of it
like sure.
>> I I remember listening to
a heavy metal musician talk about like
when
>> [music]
>> rock and heavy music becomes truly
great. And they're like, "It's when
you realize that the imperfections are
the point." And I think that's something
that I love so much about heavy music is
that I the first time I heard it I was
like, "This is so much chaos that it
calms me down because I feel internally
chaotic." And this is the only thing
that's actually speaking to me at that
point. And so like in those moments do
you feel like you're able to ever just
lean into like
life is messed up, we're all imperfect,
it sucks and then you die and I'm here
putting my soul out into this music. And
I don't have an answer for it.
>> I don't know. I don't have answers for
like anything ever. So it's like I just
try to live and be happy.
>> It's all very silly. We're born the
paradox knowing that we're doomed to one
day die and yet there are blizzards and
there are movies and
>> There's blizzards, there's freaking
frosting.
>> manual labor. It's incredible that we do
all these things. Do you know what I
mean?
Uh,
please eat eat the frosting. Um, I can
look away if you'd prefer.
>> Look, I have a really big sweet tooth in
case you couldn't tell by this. Do you
not?
>> No, I
>> Like are you not down with Like whenever
you're cuz you know, you cook and you
bake a lot. But like are you not down
with like like do you not like lick the
knife and stuff whenever you eat
frosting?
>> No, I 100% do. Um, for me it almost
feels like pathological though where
it's like uh, um, it's like a raccoon
stumbling upon trash. You know what I
mean? It's not like a human man eating
eating food.
>> Yeah.
I have a really big sweet tooth.
>> [laughter]
>> I have a really big sweet tooth.
>> This is great.
>> No, it's not.
>> Oh, this is
>> You're judging [laughter] me.
>> Megan, I mean we ask every guest, what
do you think happens when you die?
>> I don't know. Maybe I'll go to
ant cup heaven.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't know. I believe
I have a heaven and hell, but it's like
how can you say what that looks like?
Like I believe that there's something
beyond this life, but I don't know what
it looks like. I'm just I I believe that
there's some form of You know what I
hope?
I hope that I get to be
I get to be a really cool ghost.
And that I get to haunt You know what? I
hope I get to haunt this Mythical
Kitchen because you guys are killing me
with all of this food.
>> [laughter]
>> This truly is my last meal. Could I be
him?
>> I was going to say you're going to
animate the sausage or the sandwich?
>> I'd rather be the sausage. That'd be
kind of like But honestly, actually no,
I don't want to haunt Mythical Kitchen.
I just want to be a ghost that looks
like that.
>> [laughter]
>> And that's it. And I can just like roam
the world, roam the earth, and scare
whomstever stumbles upon me.
>> Haunting [laughter] the set of 2088
Scooby-Doo Origins Origins. Back to the
origins. Beginning ready to get the
lightning round?
>> Oh, mhm.
>> You can keep eating the frosting.
>> I'm really trying to bite the frosting.
>> Who's the one person dead or alive you'd
want to share your actual last meal
with?
>> I think that Jesus would be dope.
>> Are you able to be on set often?
Are you Are you able to go on set often
and see mom work?
>> Mom?
>> [laughter]
>> My mom doesn't work in the movie.
>> Well, tell me a little bit more about
what you were doing.
>> Man, I was doing I think
>> [screaming]
>> Is THAT YOUR LIGHTNING ROUND?
>> [laughter]
>> WHAT'S THAT ALL
>> I HAVEN'T READ THAT OUT. I HAVEN'T READ
that out. Don't Don't read that You can
actually read that one. Dude, can you
read that out loud?
>> What is wrong with you?
Josh Hutcherson has the ability to do
the funniest thing in the world and post
a Mazelee Donner fan edit. Do you think
he'll do it? I don't know, man.
>> [laughter]
[gasps]
>> I don't know. Is Josh Hutcherson going
to turn into a CapCut warrior for like
one day to make an edit of Mazelee
Donner? Yeah, totally.
>> Josh, it's your time to shine. You got
to learn, brother.
>> Like that's what I thought you were
asking me earlier at the Teen Vogue
question. And you can see like the fear
flashing in my eyes. Like I thought that
you were
>> Look, that's what everyone seemed to get
out of that Teen Vogue. And then like,
she had to teach herself how to walk.
>> [laughter]
>> State of media, man.
>> No, man. I made edits of Josh
Hutcherson, that's it.
>> [laughter]
>> That's all I'm known for in this life.
>> Uh from kicking and screaming, that's
where I know him. Uh what's your biggest
fear?
>> Um
the dark
and no, needles. No, death. No, uh
uh open doors at night.
>> Uh someone running through an open door
with NEEDLES IN THE DARK
>> [laughter]
>> FINALLY, MCKENNA, ARE YOU HAPPY?
>> UM right now, yes. Right in this very
moment, today, this week, yes. Very
>> I'm so worried of what comes after cuz
boy, was that foreboding.
>> [laughter]
>> I'm tremendously happy. Like truly, I
I'm so happy. Thank you so much for
being and so generous with your time and
your enthusiasm. It was It was really
wonderful.
>> No, thank you so much for having me and
I I don't know. I ramble and I
dillydally a lot, so thank you for
dealing with my dillydallying and my
like my big like roundabout answers
where I say one thing, but then I go
somewhere else and then I ask another
question and I think of something else.
So, thank you for having me.
>> I love the ramble and I love the
dillydally. If you want to deliver your
last words to that camera right there.
>> [whistles]
>> MCKENNA GRACE, EVERYBODY.
EVERYONE, GO SEE THE HUNGER GAMES:
Sunrise on the Reaping November 20th in
theaters. She's got a million more
projects coming out.
>> Bring your frosting.
>> Bring your frosting. This is what
