great content used to be much easier to define a movie or a show crystallized in a scheduled slot we plan our whole evenings around them miss the window you gotta wait for it to come out on dvd or cassette they were dark times indeed but now it really doesn’t matter if it’s 30 seconds or 30 minutes whether you’re watching it on the subway or on the sofa whether it costs a hundred bucks or a hundred million to make all that really matters today is that good content tells a story and i’m not just pulling this information magically at a hat because magic isn’t real but science is and as a man of science let me hit you with a fun fact 87 of consumers describe great content as stories that are relevant to them take my niece for example she’s really into these slime videos but for others it could be people cutting into objects to see if their cake or perhaps the latest lizzo clip my point is audiences can go out and find whatever it is that’s relevant to their tastes and what they’re watching and connecting with is showing us that the definition of great content has changed all right well i’ve gone on now for a hot minute let’s see what a few of my creators have to say about this what makes great content i think what makes content great is authenticity i think content is all about connection something that grabs the audience and doesn’t let them go they want to feel that direct unabridged relationship with the creator look at patrick starr jackie ein and nikki it’s like watching your friend put on makeup only that friend has 13 million subscribers youtube is the kind of place that audiences love because there’s so much diverse content from animals to cooking to sports music kids shows going deep on any topic monkey languages that’s probably not one [Music] as i said monkey languages great content is about helping people find their crowds they want to feel like they belong to something so you want to watch someone clean their house okay it’s like wait i’m not the only one who’s into this there’s so many people in front of me people don’t just want the bells and whistles and explosions but sometimes they do and pyrotechnics i guess what i’m saying is great content is all about the viewers what they want what they need it’s what they’re watching it’s the whole experience simple as that simple as that great content tells a story that viewers care about something relevant to their tastes and no one’s in a better position to offer that than youtube if you’re into tech for example you’ve got my buddy marquez brownlee who’s 15.6 million subscribers can’t get enough of his reviews i’m talking about everything from those creepy self-piloting robot vacuums to the latest pixel phones but maybe your thing is food from tv shows and cartoons well i surprise good but it wasn’t until i posted my first youtube video on makeup beauty and fashion that i learned the truth a lot of people care about my perspective on beauty not just on the outside but on the inside too i’ve built a devoted community of people who want to know about the celebrities i collaborate with and the brands i’m partnering with and with other when when others tried to keep me down my audience lifted me up i’ve turned my passion into a multi-million dollar business called one size an inclusive makeup brand that celebrates individuality i’m always trying to help others already a multi-platinum selling billboard award-winning songwriter pending songs for artists like cardi b drake and jay-z heard of him she’s also a member of the youtube black voices artist class of 2022 ladies and gentlemen please give it up for ninja [Music] you know [Music] you got bad intentions [Music] i’ve been in love with music since i couldn’t remember i grew up around melody whether it was seeing my dad dj or being with my aunt and uncle making beats in the basement music was like a love language in my family so i always knew that i had it in me that i could make my own melodies one day and my mom made a deal with me she said to get all get all a’s and then she would give me a midi keyboard so i did and she did i was 13. i was all about it and i be up until five in the morning in high school watching youtube videos so i could learn everything i could about making beats i had to learn the rules so i could break the rules and a few years later i got accepted into a very reputable music institute at nyu but at the same time i’ve been uploading my work across social media and i realized i could earn more buzz if i wrote and produced the songs myself and then i started making my own connections and one opportunity turned into five more and i started getting noticed by the right people pretty soon i was writing songs for stars like lady gaga beyonce and ariana grande you might know this song [Music] for a while i’ve been telling other people stories but a big part of my focus right now is my solo career and i’m building a lot of my momentum through youtube i love that it supports up and coming musicians with the black voices artists class of 2022 and i’m a proud member of that class i have a vision and to me youtube is a place where people can see me in many an entrance like i did not get that introduction all right now i feel special you should so mr beast is here because of a collaboration we recently did and we wanted to share the results with you live here tonight and we met actually uh through youtube as mutual fans of each other’s channels but collaborating together was actually an idea for uh one of your viewers i think yeah so uh when i hit 20 million subscribers i asked my audience what i should do to celebrate yeah and then someone in the youtube community said you should plant 20 million trees and then someone else said you should team with mark grover and build a nasa robot that could just plant them all which is a terrible idea yeah obviously that would have been a disaster so we engaged our audiences and within two months by partnering with the non-profit we raised 20 million dollars to plant 20 million trees uh yes which is actually a thousand times more trees than there are in central park take that central park so after that we decided we should do it again and this time we punished ourselves by arbitrarily setting the donation amount to 30 million dollars to remove 30 million pounds of trash and plastic from the ocean that’s the equivalent of 72 statues of liberty 144 blue whales 189 space shuttle endeavors and it’s a little heavier than the eiffel tower we called the project team seeds and we’re proud to announce that we surpassed our goal and then some we removed 32 million 32 and a half million pounds of trash such a big number it’s hard to say from the ocean and of course none of this would have been possible without the support and donations of our audiences in the youtube community and to say thanks we want to do something cool and for that we’ve got the coolest in the business to help him
