I feel like people didn’t appreciate how dope some of the shots were. – It was a lot of fun. This is my first Rewind that I’ve seen. I need to educate myself YouTubely. – (Finebros) And how was your experience being in the YouTube Rewind? – So it has always been a dream of mine to be in YouTube Rewind. I wish they used more of me. But you know what? I’ll take what I can get. – I was the thirstiest person on set. I tried to get everyone’s number and hang out. – We got to meet Judson, the original Evolution of Dance guy. That was fun. – And he taught us dance moves, like 15 of ’em. – We did so many more dances than just the one. – It was my first time. I’d never done it before. It felt similar to when you guys asked me to do this for the first time. It’s like a rite of passage. – (Finebros) So that was YouTube Rewind, and you were not in it. – I was not, no. (chuckles) – We were invited to go, and I was having my baby the day before. – (Finebros) Why couldn’t you have had the baby on the Rewind? – Right? – Oh my gosh, yeah. – That seriously would’ve been perfect. – (Finebros) So if you’re not an avid YouTube viewer, do you think you enjoy YouTube Rewind as much as someone who is an avid YouTube viewer? – I don’t think so, honestly. – I would imagine part of the fun is knowing who the people in it are. – Yes, simply because even I truthfully don’t know all the trends they’re referring to. I’m like, what are they talking about? I have no idea. It makes for a good video, whether you know the trends or not. – It probably just is like a barrage of confusion for people who don’t watch YouTube videos. – It’s a reward for people who’ve been watching. It’s not something that’s for people who didn’t watch. Who cares about them? – Yes, they’re excluding viewers who aren’t YouTube watchers. But I don’t think that’s who YouTube Rewind is for. YouTube Rewind is for people who watch YouTube all the time. – (Finebros) All right, so let’s talk about a big announcement that YouTube made in 2015 about YouTube Red. Do you think it will be a success? – I don’t see why not. It’s allowing YouTubers to create shows on the platform that they’ve grown up on. – When I was deciding where I wanted my tour movie to go, I had many options. And I was like, “I don’t want my fans to leave the platform.” YouTube Red was that option, because that’s where my community is, that’s where my family is, that’s where my channel is. – All of the features that it brings are additive. I’ll be interested to see if the original content is able to motivate people to give it a try. – I was really scared of it, when they announced YouTube Red. To know that people could now watch videos ad-free made me think, “How am I gonna get my income if that doesn’t exist anymore?” People have explained to me how it’s gonna work, but it’s confusing. I think it’s really great for the audience, actually. I’m just nervous about the creators. – (Finebros) So now we’re gonna ask questions we ask every year when we do YouTubers React to YouTube Rewind. – Okay. – (Finebros) What is something in your YouTube career or in your life that was very memorable for you that happened in 2015? – Oh. “Try me, bitch.” – I hit 2 billion views. – We moved into the new studio. – I shot my first feature. – We hit a million subscribers on December 31st. – I went on tour. That was the biggest thing, Girls’ Night In. – I was on MTV. I had a show called Todrick. I was proud to represent YouTube on national television. – I came out in 2015, which is my most memorable. Also had a New York Times best-selling book. Just saying. – I had the privilege of being part of this really cool YouTube marketing campaign, which put my face in Times Square and on billboards and stuff. So I was like, “(gasp) Is this real life?” – I wrote a book. I won a Teen Choice Award, which was really exciting. I got married! I almost forgot. That would’ve been really bad. (laughs loudly) – (Finebros) And is there a mistake or a problem with YouTube as a platform that you hope to see fixed in 2016? – Like, about the website? I just want someone from YouTube to be there for me. – I feel like they need to fix the comment section a little bit. – If they could do away with the spam comments, that would be fantastic. – We all are promoting things. So YouTube, let us change things so we can say, “I have a new show coming out.” – The algorithm. I don’t know what to do, you know? Now I’m like, “Should I upload more so I’m showing up more in people’s subscription boxes?” Or is it like, “Am I ruining it if I upload too much? And should I pull back on how much I upload?” I just don’t know what to do. – I don’t know whose video belongs to who. The subscription box is just so messy at this point. You’ve got to have a really shocking, absurd, intense title and thumbnail to get anyone to watch. I used to just upload videos, and my viewers would watch it. And now I feel like I’m in competition. I’ve never felt that way before. – (Finebros) So finally, one year from now, what is your prediction for YouTube? – About YouTube. – Oh my goodness, um… – I think it’s gonna just get bigger and bigger and bigger. – TV is just gonna be a thing of the past, and everyone’s just gonna watch YouTube. – YouTubers are gonna definitely be respected a lot more, hopefully. – More skits are gonna be created, and I think people are gonna be less all about the pranksters. – I miss the crazy, wacky humor that the internet used to have. And I wanna see it kinda go back in that direction. I’m tired of challenges and AMAs and (mumbles mockingly). – The YouTubers are getting younger and younger. Like, it’s crazy. So I feel like in a year, there’ll be some top YouTubers that are, like, five years old. – YouTube is making a play to become an outlet for premium content. You guys and us, we’re both excited about doing things that cost money, right? Story-based stuff that costs money. And hopefully, we’ll look back and be like, oh, YouTube IS the place for that kinda content. (clang!) – (Finebros) Truth!
