Hot to go. Hot to go. Yeah. How hot have you been going, Dad? Uh it’s well it’s been a little better, but I’ve been going pretty good. Uh but so um if you want to I I got a visitor here at the house. You want to let her in? Sure. Hold on a minute. I think I know who this is. I’ve heard I’ve heard that he’s been um taking care of somebody. Oh, is she hiding behind the I thought she was going to be hiding behind the backdrop, man. Okay, this is the whole thing. He is leaving the room. He has removed the backdrop. Well, he’s just opened the door. And here we Who’s Okay, he’s staring down at an open door. What is happening? This is quite an Oh, this is Uhoh, we got a grand entrance. Nana has entered the building. She’s got her rolloliator. I think that’s what she calls it, her rolloliator. Okay. She’s taking her time. Man, you get to be Nana’s age. You take whatever time you need. I’m going to sit in that chair. Sit in my chair. Okay. Okay. He Dad is barking orders at Nana. Hello, Nana. Hey, my handsome boy. Good to see you. You’re looking great. Good. Well, I tried. You got your hair curled. Of course, the the headphones have um curl it just for you. And then we’ve got these headphones on you to smush it. Oh, so that you dedicate your curls to me. So, I know that you’ve been there at Dad and Nana’s for a while because things are shifting. You’re you’re basically moving. The house is getting ready. That’s correct. So, you’re staying with dad. Dad is um who’s the boss is what I want to know now that well because I’m 93 that they need to tell me everything. Oh both of them. Okay. And what but what’s the case? You’re saying you don’t need to be told everything? Well, I know I know some things. So, Dad, what kind of Are you mansplaining to Nana? What’s happening? Well, I I I just pro I’m not I’m not bringing it up. And I’m not uh I’m not really going there now. I probably said something I ought not have said, but she tells me and ain’t Ty the same thing. She says, “I know what to say and what not to say.” So, Oh, you’re talking about That’s when appearing on the show. It up here at him. Oh yeah. They don’t think that. Dad, you think she done got it up there anymore? Oh, no. I think she’s got it as much as she’s reads and everything. She’s got it more than I have. That’s right. Well, see, does that clear it up, Nana? Does that make you feel better about it? Well, I it didn’t make me feel bad anyway. Okay. All right. Um, so what do you what have you been up to at the beach with dad? You’re probably not going on the beach because of your what do you call it? A rolloliator. Rollolator. Rollolator. Rollator. Rollolator. Yeah. You don’t take that on the beach. No. The sand’s too deep. Yeah. We got a place we could take her down there and roll her up on the It’s like a deck and she could see the beach. But she You’re not interested. See, I’m just happy on this front porch. It’s a nice front porch. So, you roll out there and then you turn it around and you sit down. No, I walk on it, too. But I sit down. Okay. She sits on that on that big swing out there. Oh, you can get in the swing. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. I’m not helpless. See, you’re so defens. Yeah, she got me. Why are you so defensive? We’re just I’m just trying to see what you’re up to. That’s all. Hey. No, you’re not helpless. Well, make me a sandwich. I’m going to fall and I can fall. You know, she does pretty good. I’ll tell you. The key is to roll. When you fall, you just you just roll and get back up. That’s what you got to do. I fall just flat. Oh, flat. Yeah. Well, let’s not do let’s not do any falling, you know. Let’s just do some rolling and some sitting and some swinging. Well, I like your hair. It’s You got blue in it today. I got blue in I think that is that is an effect to let them know that it is in focus. Oh, that is something you see. That is the magic of technology. Dad, is this how you see my hair every time with blue in it? a little bit. Yeah. You You’ve never I believe I believe it’s more today than it has been. Okay. That just means I’m in focus. It goes with your glasses. I don’t actually have blue hair. [Laughter] That’s something that you would do cuz you’re a great grandma. Matter of fact, how many great grandkids do you have now? We got a We got another one who just came and then another one on the way. So that makes How many great grandchildren do you have? Four. Four great grandchildren. It’ll be five when the one gets you in February. And Kurt’s son, Kurt Ashley’s son, what’s his name? Six. He’ll be seven this month. He’s he’s old enough like he will definitely remember you and then that Sloan is getting old enough that she’s going to remember you. Remember me. And let me tell you, I had my great-grandparents that I remember, they were not doing nearly as good as you are because I the memories I have of greatgrandparents on both sides of the family because there was lots of people who live like Papa’s mom lived lived a long time. I remember her, she was kind of she was so old. It was just for a little kid like me, that was just freaky. And then on mom’s side of the family, her her grandparents, nanny’s parents were both alive and they were freaky. It was just like, you know, it’s you when you’re that little and you see somebody that old. How how old are you? You’re 94 three. 93. Sorry. They seem to and you’re doing a lot better than them. You You You’re a good memory. But the great grandparents memory that I have freaked me out. Freaked me out. It was scary. It’s just like, well, they’re kind they’re so old they can’t even talk and they’re mosying around and I don’t know. It’s almost like they become another creature. That’s not you. I’m giving you a compliment. This seems good, Nana. You’re looking great. Your mind is your mind is in charge. Well, I didn’t say I love you, but I do. I love you. I love you, too. And I’m I’m I’m proud of you keeping it together mentally. That gives me hope. Cuz I feel like if I make it to your age, I’mma I’m going to be one of those old men scaring grandchildren. More than that, you’ll be 110 because of technology. Yes. Yeah. And that’s why I’m here. Because of technology. Technology. That’s true. I mean, it it it does make a difference. And plus the reading and engaging of the brain. And for the longest time, the way that you would walk up and down the walk around the neighborhood, you were committed to physical, mental, and spiritual health. And I I have spiritual every day. Mhm. And I think that the commitment to all of those areas has led to longevity, right? So, let that be a lesson. Don’t Are you putting me off? Uh oh. Uh oh, Dad. I got something to say. Okay. Oh, Dad. Something tells me Nana’s got something to say. She gave you the hand. Well, Dad said, well, she said hand. Go ahead. My 92year-old friend looks at y’all all the time and she just loves she her son-in-law lives at Myrtle Beach. Oh, really? And she says, “I just have the most fun.” Okay. With these two boys. And what’s her first name? Say boy. Her her first name is Hildra. I think we’ve spoken directly to Hilda before. Yeah. And Hilda, you know what we’ve told you. I didn’t call you by name Hilda, but you know, I we told you something. We told you there’s certain things that aren’t told to certain people. She’s a lovely lady. You know what I’m saying, Hilda? Yeah. Yeah, certain things that we blue hairs keep to ourselves. But yes, uh, holler out to Hilda. Hilda, hello. We’re having a good time today. Mhm. We are. And I hadn’t talked to you today, but I’ll catch up with you later. Okay, that All right, I’mma give you the hand. You need to me if y’all are going to put me back in the back room. Dad, you putting you What do you mean? Dad been putting you in the back room. I ain’t put her in the back. She’s been in Hey, she’s been in my recliner most of the time. Oh, yeah. Has dad been shoving you in the back room? Are Are you in the dark? Is he keeping you in the dark? He keeps in the dark. Okay. All right. He keeps me in with plenty of light to see to get around. Okay. So, what what did you want to say? I just wanted to tell y’all’s folks how lucky they are to have this program. Tell them. And I I think they all know that you’re my grandson and Charles is my son. Yes. But I’m asking them to get one person to come and listen to you. Oh. as as you’re on the as an audience. So, yes, I’m hoping you’re gonna have more members of your club. That’s right. Thank you. I thought you were about to ask them for donations, which I wasn’t going to stop you. I want each y’all to think about giving what you think in your heart these boys could use. Well, you know, time is good. Time is good. Yeah. Donate your time. Yeah. Well, thanks for coming on Dad’s show and taking over completely. Yeah. Well, I’m not going Dad, I’m not going to be the one to ask her to leave. That’s going to have to be on you. You ready? Is there Do you have another point that you want to make? Tell him bye. You love him. I love you, dear. I love you, too. Yeah, I’m tell you. Well, yeah. Yeah. I mean, just took over. When I sat her down in my set her down in my chair, it was all over but the crying, won’t it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Can’t get a You can’t get a word in edgewise. She gave you the hand, man. You said to I got another point I want to make. Well, before we go, I mean, I wanted We haven’t been able to talk. Um, I want to get an update on how was it with Lily and her friends coming out there because they she left and then Nana came out. You’ve had all types of guests. Guest? Young and vibrant and old and opinionated. Yep. And then maybe young and opinionated, too. You tell me. had some of them uh well I I would say that the most opinionated one out of all the people that came with Lily was Lily. Oh yeah, of course. Absolutely. She’s uh she was a leader. I mean Mhm. but we had we had a good time and u they came in all all of her friends was nice and uh what’ y’all do? What did we do? Well, we went to the beach one day and they went a while, but it was so hot down here. That’s when it was really hot. And they stayed a while and then they kind of just I I give them the keys to the golf cart. Mhm. Uh living that belt life. They they went and did their own things. And uh did it come back in one piece? Oh yeah. Okay. And they did. She did good. I heard you made them ribs. I did hear that. I did. Yeah. Did cook them. I’m jealous. when they uh came in on the airport from the airport from LA, they uh Nana had them one of them big pans of Stoofers lasagna and a fresh salad she made. So we fed them that night and I think Nana fixed them breakfast one morning and then I fixed them rib one day and Oh uh you really spoiled them. So, uh, between but we’d already had that conversation that, you know, we going we’re going to look at you and cook for you some, but if y’all want to cook and use the kitchen, you can cook and clean it up and use it too or Right. But it was funny, Lily, when we when I I picked him up at the airport was coming up the road and Lily was saying, “There’s a Bojangles.” She said, “We got to go eat at Bojangles.” So they one morning on one day they went to BoJS and then she was said and I got to carry y’all to the Waffle House too. Oh, I’m wearing a shirt today. I mean Uhhuh. We don’t have them out here. So she she she they got that Waffle House experience here. And then they went to uh the Pancake House right AC right around the street from us over here for breakfast one morning. And they they kind of did their own thing, but they did some stuff with us. And was there any shagging? Did you did you get to teach them? Oh, yeah. We went dancing trying to learn to uh shag steps. And some some older man looked older than me, but I don’t know if he was or not, but he he kind of had it right there cuz me and Nancy was dancing. He he was teaching her the steps. But I don’t know if I don’t want to see her shag with an old man now that I think about it. She was uh well all of them they really didn’t know that much about beach music and then they were telling us music that they listen to and we didn’t know much about it either except for chap. But I’m I’m learning about some of it. But uh but you know while Lily was here uh we had to go back home cuz u I lost my best friend that Oh no worked for me about 13 years banjo and we had to go and I I went back and spoke at his funeral. Uh I’m sorry to hear that. I knew that he was going through it. So he’d been sick. I’m so sad to hear that he passed. How was the service? It it was just well it they just had a graveside service link but I bet there was 250 people there and that’s pretty unheard of just when you know it’s going to be a graveside service. Yeah. Did a number of people speak or were you the only one? No, it had a the preacher spoke and I spoke. Oh wow. So you were a you were a featured eulogist. Yeah. So how did you approach it? Did you did you had you jotted any things down? Oh, yeah. I had some stuff wrote down and stuff I talked about just off the top of my head, too, and different things cuz uh I had had some good memories. But listen, they they buried him in my paint shirt. Oh, really? Cuz that’s all he ever wore, Link. Every time, even when they moved down here, every time that I went and had shirts made, I always had 3X was made cuz he was a big man. It took a 2X or a 3X Yeah. to fit him. And I’d carry him three more shirts by there. And he’d wear one slam out on me. He was he was a loyal employee as well as a friend. Huh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Me and him was That’s great. Well, Dad, I’m so sad. Well, we Well, you know what? Banjo will always remember you. I remember Banjo. He was a great guy. Great name, too. So, hey, let me ask you something. When you when Lily uh got back home from coming out here, I think I talked to you just a little bit and you I think you said that you pulled in the driveway and she was packing her car up. You didn’t even hardly get to see her. She was gone. Oh, yeah. She’s already moving out. She got home and she was already moved out, which she told me she was going to do that, but I didn’t quite believe it, especially with how, you know, things were when I got there to graduation and she had not even started the moving out. This was quite the opposite. So, she has redeemed herself. She was she had completely vacated. Well, there was a lot of stuff in the garage that I brought two days later, but she did move out and um yeah, so now we’ve we got a guest room doing remodeling all over the place. And yeah, we’ve I I did the iconic dad thing, which is uh helped her build her new bed, which is not hard to do, but you know, it’s put together the bed. She had to get a new bed frame and stuff. So, I felt very dad core when I was helping her put together her um her bed. She was like, “Well, I’m glad you brought this drill with the bits in it cuz otherwise I’d have been doing that little wrench that came along with the bed.” Oh, yeah. For hours. I was like, “Yeah.” Yeah. So, I checked that box. Dad job well done. As far as I know, I think I did a good job. And and and I talked to her about what you told me to about uh you know, she needed to be trying to get a job and you want to seen the look she give me. Lord have mercy. My dad won’t leave me alone. He don’t He just don’t know how hard I’m looking for a job. And then I found out that after she got back home that she is uh willfully employed. Willfully employed. She did it on purpose. So things are coming together for her. Yep. That’s good. And she’ll visit but she won’t live with us. Yes. Well, she told me that I think she told Nana back here told her that uh Christy was making her room into a guest room. Yep. Yep. So, all them pictures off the walls and fixing it where it’s like a guest room. Mhm. So, that benefits y’all. That’s right. That’s where you’ll be when you come out. You’re not having to look feel like you’re in Lily’s room. Okay. Clean up after yourself though. Oh, what? You ain’t got to worry about that. Yeah. Yeah. Well, link, we we’ve been through a lot of catching up stuff here today. And Nana Nana took over the show. Uh but which is quite all right cuz you know, she’s my mama and your Nana, so she can take over whatever she wants to. That’s right. And uh but it was it was fun having y all y’all here with us today and we’ll be back next week for another one. And don’t forget to follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcast and on YouTube.
