Look out, little Debbie. Our guts are coming for your snacks. – Let’s talk about that. (wondrous folk music) Good Mythical Morning. – Though Giant Deborah has become a mythical favorite, we tend to forget she’s the alternate universe spawn of the baked goods GOAT, Little Debbie. – GOAT means greatest of all time. Yeah, Little Debbie is the GOAT. She is the ultimate sorceress of sugar. I’ve grown up with Little Debbie. She was already grown. – She raised you well. – Well, she was little. Her baked goods game is so prolific, there’s stuff that I didn’t even know she made. – Yeah, which is why today, we’re trying every single snack that’s unique to Deb and then crowning the best. It’s time for Gut Check, Little Debbie edition. – The mythical crew took to the streets with a top secret, very important mission to cop all of Little Debbie’s one of a kind baked goods. And we’re gonna be eating them all, but we’re not gonna be tasting donuts and muffins because those items are so general and not as unique to Little Debbie. – Yes. – So we’re kicking those to the curb, but that does mean that we’re gonna be tasting 22 sweet, sweet, woo, my whistle started, Little Debbie snacks, sure to give our guts a sugar rush. Sugar rush. Sugar rush. – Wow. Yeah. Okay, and after we try each flavor except for the muffins and donuts. I feel like we gotta apologize. If you’re a muffin or a donut person, I mean, you’re gonna just have to wait until we get to those. We’re not getting them today. Okay, we’re gonna give it a score of one to 100 based on their initial gut reactions. That’s why we call it a gut check. And then those scores– – Really? – From those scores, we’re gonna come to the top four. We’re gonna try those one more time to officially decide which baked good will officially be named the snack with the most BDE. That’s Big Debbie Energy. – And I got a brand new visual aid to help me in my scoring. Oh look, I don’t like that, it’s a 10. It’s a 20, it’s a 30, it’s a 40. Oh, now I’m kind of normal. That’s a 50. – [Rhett] What about all the numbers between those? – I have to interpolate it. – Oh gosh. – This is complicated. If I’m really happy, I guess I will rate it 100. – It never happens. – Okay. – [Stevie] Gentlemen! – Yes. – [Stevie] Are you ready for today’s baked good banger? – Boobideeboobideeboobideeboo. – Yeah. – [Stevie] As always, palate cleansing carbonated water is available for you when needed, but given today’s sweet snacks, we’ve also got some milk for you on the side. – Thank you, I need that milk. – [Stevie] And we begin with our first category, cookies and sandwich cookies, sometimes known as pies. First up, Star Crunch Cosmic Cookies. – You know about these. – Uh-huh. Crunchy, crispy caramel. – I’m trying not to bring my preconceived notions to this. – Chocolatey. – But I’ve never been a fan of this. – It tastes waxy. I’m gonna give it a 42. – It’s got something like, yeah, almost like a little cardboard in it. Cardboardishness. – I don’t like it. – 48. – [Stevie] Banana Marshmallow Pies. – Didn’t know this existed. – Oh gosh. Oh, it’s like a moon pie, but. – Oh. – That is the face I just made. I mean, that’s a 21. – I quite like that and I like the texture quite a bit. 74. – [Stevie] Jelly Creme Pies. – What? – What? What is this? – Where’s the jelly? Oh, there it is. – Chocolate on the outside? – Uh-huh. It’s kind of grainy, isn’t it? – I’m a little puzzled by it. – 50, right in the middle. – 51. – [Stevie] Raisin Creme Pies. – Raisin. – Oh, uh-huh. I used to have these at the pond. – At the pond? – Down in Georgia. – Like when you go fishing or something? – So, nostalgia is taking me back and I got a little raisin in that bite. – This is actually better. – A little extra sweetness. That’s pretty nice. 76 for them raisin things. What do call ’em? – [Stevie] Raisin Creme Pies. – 67. – Huh. – Yeah, it’s not bad. – [Stevie] Oatmeal Creme Pies. – Oh, the classic! – Here you go. – This is, hm. – Now, this is what you had at your house all the time. – Mm-hmm. – It’s still holding up. – That is nice. I gotta go all the way to 82 for this. – I’m gonna give it a 73. – Woo! – Not as good as I remember as a child. My palate has changed. – [Stevie] Peanut Butter Creme Pies. – What? – Why have I never? – [Rhett] You didn’t know about this? – I think we’ve had it on the show and my mind was blown and then I forgot about it. – Whoa! – It’s like a big round Nutter Butter. – It’s like two cookies too. – You know the peanut butter boys gonna come for you. – Oh my gosh, that’s good! – We’re coming for you, Little Debbie. – Is it too much, 89? What, did I didn’t say that out loud? – No, I’m thinking 92. – Whoa, 92?! – Yeah, it’s good, man. I wanna dip it in the creamy milk. – I feel like I definitely need a little cleanse. That’s so peanut buttery. – Woo! – [Stevie] Chocolate Chip Creme Pies. – Two chocolate chip cookies with the cream in the middle. Little Debbie does me right. – This is not great. – It’s soft. I love a good soft chocolate chip cookie. – This tastes just like a soft batch Chips Ahoy, which would make me think you would like it. But that makes me think that it tastes artificial and takes me all the way down to 44. – Nah, I’m gonna give this a 74. Soft batch Chips Ahoy, two different things. – What? – Fudge Rounds. – What, what? – Two different things. – Two different brands? – Oh, is my jam. Oh. – Hold on. Before you have an orgasm over there, Chips Ahoy doesn’t make soft batch, the company? – Chips Ahoy is not anywhere appearing on the packaging. You’re messing up my moment. You’re killing my vibe. I’m in a Fudge Round zone here. I think this is a perfect Little Debbie snack. I’m gonna give it a 100. – You’re doing that because it’s the only number you can see. I knew this scale was gonna cause you to give something 100. – [Link] I just moved it. – It’s amazing how good it doesn’t taste now that I’ve grown up. – It’s the consistency of it. It’s so fluffy. – It tastes so artificial, like every single element of it. 39. – What?! What?! – I’m sorry, I’m just being honest with y’all. It’s not good. – Hey, do your job, man. – It doesn’t taste like anything anybody could actually make outside of a factory. – Vibe successfully killed. All right. – [Stevie] And that concludes the cookies category. – How does it feel to have somebody really, really like something, and have somebody give it a really, really low score? I’m just trying to put you in my shoes. – I’m just scared for you. – [Stevie] Okay, up next, we have the cakes category. – Okay. – [Stevie] Starting with Zebra Cakes – Zebra Cake, that’s ubiquitous. – That’s really solid. – When you bite into it, it’s almost like you can’t feel that you’re biting in anything. It’s like biting a cloud. You ever bit a cloud? – And for every one that they sell, I think they inseminate a zebra. I think that’s part of the program. – Yep. – So basically, every one they sell, there’s a baby zebra that is born, if it’s a successful insemination. – For the proliferation of zebras, I’m gonna add two points. – We just brought two zebras into the world. That’s really good. I like it. 78. – I’m gonna give it a 65. – [Stevie] Insemination cakes is previously what they were called. – Right, yeah, marketing – [Stevie] Frosted Fudge Cakes. – What is this? That’s light and airy too. It doesn’t have the heft of a Fudge Round. – I like the consistency better, but it still has that fakey chocolate taste. – Maybe they all do. Maybe that’s the Little Debbie chocolate. – I’m gonna get to a 62. – 71. I like it better than you. – Yeah. – [Stevie] Fancy Cakes. – Fancy. So it’s just a white version of the chocolate thing we just ate. 49. – I’d say it’s not bad, 56 – [Stevie] Devil Squares. – Oh, I like the name. Now, is it a square? Oh yeah, this is worse. – That tastes a whole lot like the other chocolate one. – Yeah, it’s not as fun. 70. – So 70 is you don’t like it. – No, it’s not as fun as the other one, which I rated higher, I think. – I like it more than I don’t like it, but not too much, 54. – [Stevie] Devil Cremes. – You’re not liking any of these, by the way. – I know. – Hit me with the Devil Creme. – The thing I like about this is it doesn’t have the chocolate icing– – [Link] That you don’t like. – So I’m sending this one all the way to 71. – This one is like powdery. We’re really bifurcated on this. I’m gonna say 40. – That’s why there’s two of us. – [Stevie] Birthday Cakes. – Checks and balances. Birthday cake. – This tastes just like a birthday cake. – It really does. – I usually don’t like birthday cake flavored things, but they did it so well. – It’s impressive. – 81, 81. Wow. There’s nothing fakey about that at all. – No, I am blown away by this thing. I just don’t like it. 33. I mean, it’s amazing what they’ve achieved. If you like birthday cake, you’ll love that. – What are the top four gonna be? This is wild. – [Stevie] Unicorn Cakes. – Unicorn Cake? Is this when you bring a third person into your relationship? – [Rhett] Mm-hmm, and you feed ’em this. – I learned that this weekend. – What are you talking about? – What a unicorn is. You checked into a hotel with a friend of yours. – Yeah, yeah. I checked into a hotel with Jessie, but a friend of ours who was going to the thing with Link and Christy, we all three went to our room first. And the guy who was like carrying our bags was, I think he just was like, oh, it’s LA, that guy must be a unicorn. – And I was like– – I didn’t feel like I needed to clear it up. – Well, it cleared it up for me. Now I know what a unicorn is. – [Stevie] I have no idea what’s going on right now. – Did I rate it? – I don’t particularly like that one. 44. – Yeah, I’m gonna give it a three because I forgot. I’m gonna give it a 30, a 30. Put a zero after the three. – [Stevie] Chocolate Cupcakes. – Oh, okay. – See, now this is the one thing that Debbie. Turn that around, V. Show it. See, this is an, I think a Hostess first. I don’t think a Little Debbie first. But that is good. – I just realized something today is I don’t like Little Debbie chocolate and I feel. – I feel like this chocolate’s different. – It is different and it is better. – Right. – It’s more like traditional icing, but like. – Yeah, it is pretty good, man. 79. Come on, come on, come on. – I mean, I’ll give it a 69. – Okay. Ooh. – [Stevie] Swiss Rolls. – My hotel room was a 369. That’s the room I stayed in. – [Rhett] Yeah. – And it was easy for me to remember. – [Rhett] Right, uh-huh. – ‘Cause if you can do it once, you can do it three times. – Yep, and I sent my unicorn down there to get inseminated. – What is it? He dressed like a zebra. Come on, V. Feed me. What is it? Swiss cake roll? – [Stevie] Swiss Roll, yeah. – No, I’ve never been to Switzerland, but I hear it’s beautiful. – Have you ever unrolled a Swiss cake roll? – No, it’s impossible. – No, I’ve done it. – No, no, it breaks. – I’ve completely dissected one. It’s a lot of fun. Too much cake, not enough fun, 60. – This is back into the fake chocolate territory for me, but I love the icing and the cake ratio, so I’m gonna go all the way to 63. – [Stevie] Strawberry Shortcake Rolls. – It’s ugly. – That’s ugly? I was gonna say, it’s beautiful. Why are you on such a different page? – We’ve never been so opposite. Oh man. – This is a flavor that hasn’t happened yet. You know? That strawberry cream? – And it tastes better because of that. It almost has a cheesecake, a strawberry cheesecake quality. – I like this. – It is good. – 86. – You know what? 86. – Really? – I was thinking that too. Not exactly, but I just want us to have some unanimity. – Unanimititimy. – [Stevie] And that’s a wrap on the cakes category. – Oh, good god, thank you. I’m feeling sick! – How’s this going, Stevie? – [Stevie] It’s going very well and I’m not at all confused. Now, we’re gonna move on to our final category, the good old miscellaneous category. – What would be confusing? There’s a number of things we can unpack during Good Mythical More. – Okay. – [Stevie] We’re jumping in with the sweet snack only the coolest kids got for dessert in their packed lunches. Yeah, I’m talking about Cosmic Brownies. – Oh yeah. – Oh my god, it’s so good. So good. Its so good, I’m doing a dance. All right. I’mma (vocalizing), I’mma give it a 94. 94. I love the density of it. – I like the consistency of this as a flourless chocolate cake lover, but I feel like it’s got that fakey chocolate flavor so concentrated. – Get over it, man. – 41. I’m sorry, I just– – Fakey chocolate. – If you don’t like the fakey chocolate flavor, you don’t like the fakey chocolate flavor. I’m not a kid anymore. – [Stevie] Turtle Brownies. – [Link] Turtle rounds? – [Stevie] Brownies. – What is that on top? – Caramel. – And nuts. – Mixes pretty well. 65. – 48. – It’s so strong. – 48. I just don’t love caramel. – [Stevie] Honey Buns. – Honey Buns. – Okay, okay. – Are you liking it because it’s so different and there’s no chocolate? – I like a Honey Bun. Like even today, you can go into a convenience store and get like a big honey bun just wrapped in. – Right, right, right, right, right, right, right. – Individual thing. There’s just something about that that the fakey taste of it is actually what makes it good in this situation when you get to that donut, that donut flavor. It tastes like a Krispy Kreme donut, man. 90. – I’m just going right down the middle with a 50 because it didn’t speak to me. – [Stevie] Pecan Pinwheels. – Pecan Pinwheels. – We got some cinnamon flavor there. – I used to unroll these and only eat the middle. – Very well executed cinnamon roll flavor. A little too much cinnamon, but still good enough for a 68. – Yeah, it’s pretty good. 76 for me. That’s solid. It’s nice and moist in the middle. – [Stevie] And that completes your miscellaneous category, which means you have now officially tasted all of the one of a kind Little Debbie baked goods. – What happened to the sugar rush? I’m just in the sugar post plunge already. I just feel like crap. – [Stevie] This is gonna be the weirdest scores yet, I think, so let’s tabulate those, and we’re gonna closely review the top four items. – That strawberry thing’s gonna be in there though. I’ll tell you that much. – Yeah. – Link has a podcast with his dad, Charles Neal. It’s called Dispatches from Myrtle Beach. – ‘Cause he lives in Myrtle Beach. – Yes. And he knows a lot about Myrtle Beach because– – Boy, does he know a lot about it. – He’s dispatching quite a bit of information from there. It’s very, very funny, as you can imagine. Link’s dad is gonna read your emails and catch you up on everything he’s been up to every Thursday wherever you get your podcast. Go check out Dispatches from Myrtle Beach. – Ratherbshaggin53@aol.com. That’s his email address. He loves it. He’s loving doing a podcast. – He’s found his calling. – And we’re loving each other ’cause he’s my dad. All right, before we convince ourselves to do this final round, and decide the snack with the most BDE, we should call upon someone. – Oh yeah. – Special. – I’m feeling an opportunity for that, yeah. – To be a part of this. – Okay. – [Both] Giant Deborah, hear our call. You are big and we are small. We hunger for your snacky treats. Your pie is all we want to eat. We pledge our loyalty for all you do. Giant Deborah, please come through. – Hey. – Hey. – Don’t look. – Don’t look. – We can always count on you to show up when we chant your chant. – Yeah, this wasn’t scheduled. – Were you in the middle of something important? – I was about to try on some summer beach wear. – Oh, okay. – But lucky you called before I went into the changing room. – You wear other things besides this? – Sometimes, yeah. – Does it have that pattern though? – It’s always the same pattern. – I’d like to see that. All right. – Got a brand to keep up. – We have narrowed down your favorite, your, who is it, your sister? I can’t even remember. The little version of you. Treats. – My twin, Tiny Deb. – Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tiny Deb. Twins, yeah, they’re twins. – Or is it Little Debbie? – Yes, Little Debbie. – Little Debbie. – It’s my second cousin. – Oh. – Okay. – [Stevie] According to you. – Tell us what the second cousin treats are best. – [Stevie] The top four products in no particular order are Strawberry Shortcake Rolls, Chocolate Cupcakes, Peanut Butter Creme Pies, and Oatmeal Cream Pies. But before you crown the best one, would you like to know which product your guts deem the worst? – Yep. – [Stevie] That’d be Unicorn Cakes. – Of course. – Wow. – Three’s a crowd. – Hmm. – We don’t make those. – So you’re actually the pedestal, right? Is that what I’ve been told here? I get to put the number one treat up there? – I am often put up on a pedestal, yeah. – Now, this right here really wowed us ’cause it was so different. – You might have to help us make some of these decisions here. – I don’t know what’s happening here. – I don’t see any of the strawberry, but when you break it open, boy, that’s a treat. That is a real. – Look at that! – That’s a surprise. – Look how pretty it is. – I feel like we gotta take points away because I think this is a Hostess thing, you know? I think Little Debbie’s ripping off Hostess. – [Rhett] Hmm, okay. Hostess did this first? – I don’t think that’s the case. – Like in a gas station, you reach for these. They’re like the Blimpy or the bimbos, the bimbos. – Don’t reach for the bimbos at the gas station. – Bimbo and the Hostess make these little less unique. – Yeah, something about it is just still, it’s just not hitting, but this is such a surprise. – This is huge. I mean, compared to a oatmeal cake, look at how much bigger the Peanut Butter Creme Pie is. – But they went overboard. – It’s almost giant. – Yeah, they didn’t have to do this. – Yeah, this is like something you would make. – I think this builds on a Nutter Butter, which it’s imitating. – But it’s chewy, which means you like it more. – Mm-hmm. – I’m gonna go ahead and tell you the one that I think we should knock off right now. – Which one? This one? – The cupcakes. – I agree. For the reason I stated. – I’m saying it because they’re not good. I’m sorry. – The fact that they pulled off an Oatmeal Creme Pie all these years and keeping it relevant, I think that Little Debbie deserves some credit for that, keeping oatmeal in the mix, you know? – I’ve got a lot of respect for the oatmeal pie, but I’ll be honest with you, I don’t like it as much as either one of these. – So hold that. – Okay. – And then, now we’re going for which one is number one, which one is number two? And we have to. – This feels a little demeaning. I think we should come up with like ground rules for when you call me. – You feel like you’re not being utilized? – Sometimes. – But just like Little Debbie’s keeping these relevant, this keeps you relevant. So that could either go there. – Thank you. – And this could go up here, but oh, we got this thing to crown it. Are you deliberating because I think I know which one should win and it shouldn’t be this one. – I kind of feel like these are a toss up for me right now. – Okay. – Well, I’ve never been one to shirk responsibility. Ladies and gentlemen, we crowned– – Surprise surprise. – With BDE, the Peanut Butter Creme Pies. – What’s BDE? – Don’t knock it till you try it. Oh gosh, you knocked it off. – Don’t blame me. – What happened? – I got scared. – Lean forward. There you go. Stop moving. Stop moving. Tilt forward. There you go. – Wow, the peanut butter boys didn’t know that existed, but of course, now that we found out, it’s our favorite. Something we can agree on today, Link. – Thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell. – You know what time it is. – I’m Megan. – And I’m Christian. – And we’re from Central Wisconsin. And we just finished our Little Debbie ice cream taste test. – [Both] And it’s time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. – That’s the spirit. – Mm-hmm. Click the top link to watch us discover what kind of Little Debbie snack we are in our very own mythical curated quiz in Good Mythical More. – And to find out where the Wheel of Mythicality is gonna land. Listen to my dad and me catch up every Thursday on our new podcast, Dispatches from Myrtle Beach. First three episodes are out now. Make sure you follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
