age-old debate which we asked you to talk about in the comments last week clowns good or bad little background on clowns link first of all I only research using Wikipedia just let me just explain that right up front or just acknowledge it you don’t have to explain how you use Wikipedia so I know how to use it I think it’s good information but I will tell you that I was overwhelmed with the world of clowns this is yes this isn’t just people who dress up like hey I got a white face now with some red lips and a big mouth and they don’t talk like that I saw snakes talk as we established earlier in the week hey but yeah I understand why people are creeped out by him because when you when you’re sort of the the curtain is pulled back so to speak on the world of clowns the trench coat is open tough what what kind of clouds are you talking about homo clown you know yeah get a decent exposure clown they’re quick kind of circuses did you grow up going to any one of those but like you’ve actually white-faced is actually like the quintessential clan that’s what they call is when somebody puts white makeup on all over they cover all their skin completely and this is like like he’s almost kind of Stern and he’s like an authority figure and then he has like another type of clown that he kind of bosses around and they do it a lot in Europe and it kind of freaked me out a lot and then I started reading about North American clowns when did you know in Europe the clowns the white faced clowns paint their ears red yes crazy yeah you read the same wiki entry yeah I like the wiki um but in North America you’ve got the hobo trenchcoat plan who is migratory and finds work ray travels he’s down on his luck but he maintains a positive attitude the Tramp who’s migratory and does not work where a travels he’s down on his luck and des prés about a situation and the bum who is non-migratory and non-working like the fact that somebody has thought about clowns as much and that the clown community it believes in this like this is it scares me I understand why people are scared of them so you’re afraid of clowns uh I think I have a mild form of Cholera phobia I think it should be called clown uh phobia hello that was an easy missed opportunity clown a phobia easier to say I don’t even know if I’m pronouncing chloro phobia coulrophobia correctly but this is a term of recent origin meaning fear of clowns probably dating to the 80s Oh way back yeah and I mean the 1980s but let’s go to some mythical arguments you guys submit it in the comments your arguments last week clowns go to bad GZ 77 said clowns are bad they aren’t funny and they creep me out lastly they waste so much pie I love pie they’re always throwing pies in each other’s faces excellent point GZ 70s is a waste the fat Almighty says clowns are horrible you never know who’s behind on that makeup it could be a normal everyday guy yes or it could be a ravenous serial killer who’s waiting till no one is looking to snatch you up and rip your face off goodness seriously this could be a reference to John Wayne Gacy not to go dark for a second here but I’m gonna go dark for a second here because I believe that no one’s gonna know where you are you’re gonna lose all communication without my conversation is gonna take a dark turn here okay the subject matter John Wayne Gacy serial killer who actually dressed up like a clown what he actually went to kids birthdays parties and stuff he was a clown he did that in his free time though his profession well he did some other things but that he is a pastime he was a clown okay so I think that was when at least in the culture here in the United States people began to associate clowns with negative imagery and even did and they ruin the clown then you had Stephen King and you’ve got these other iterations of you know you’ve got the clown from a twisted metal the videogame I know that guy and so you’ve got all we would like to represent that ironic positive yet negative and dark and I think that happened with it with this whole serial killer thing let me just stick with baths and not a bad argument run a law build pizza or something like that says clowns good or bad it depends on the type of makeup they use ah no I don’t think I don’t think it does well you can make the you can make a smile or a frown and it’s all in the makeup Bri six five nine clouds are cute unless they are within a meters length of you that’s a good point I mean there’s a there’s a good perspective a little bit later that says you know what what would this circus be without clowns I think when you’re in the stands in there then there are a long ways away okay that’s a good thing the whole reason that they do their face like that paint it up is so from a long distance you can appreciate what they’re trying to emot– but you get within a meters length or a yard if you’re if you’re into that it definitely gets creepy there’s no denying and I think really how children respond to clowns and listen if you’re a clown and this is what you do for a living or on the weekends I’m sorry but I think that the at least the comments show that amongst the people who watch good mythical morning and amongst researchers link people who’ve done research on this the consensus is clowns are creepy especially the children listen to this according to psychology professor CSU young children are very reacted to a familiar body type with an your face this is why when you’d like run around with like a werewolf mask on kids gets a freak out like he looks like a human from the neck down but he’s all werewolf from the top up in a mutant yeah in a clown it basically is exactly the same thing and listen they’d conducted a study at the University of Sheffield and on that children did not like clown Dacor in hospital or doctor’s office settings dr. penny Curtis a researcher stated as adults we make assumptions about what works for children we found that clowns are universally disliked by children some found them quite frightening and unknowable so you think you’re doing a great thing when you show up at a birthday party but the kids are tolerating you hmm I’m not now we get out of their mind we did get a comment a mythical perspective from someone who is a clown JD dude that I am a clown myself Oh clouds are good they make children they they make children who like them very happy and laugh I like the fact that he put the caveat they make children who like them happy and laugh and this is coming from a clown if a child doesn’t like them then they don’t need to hear them I’m sorry they don’t need to be near them or hear them I guess I think they are good and happy but he is a clown so he said it even the clown acknowledges that children children if children don’t like me they don’t need to be near me keep them away from it because they will be freaked out of their minds now here’s a you know I grew up watching the white face called bozo bozo the clown’s looking friends with killer Drake Marta go there yard he was awesome and he would bring kids out of the audience and he would have liked the little pails and then he would you’d throw ping-pong balls into the pails and you could win stuff it’s a clown who let you win stuff you need a you know the big shoes and the big hair and he had all the sidekick cookie but do you think made me happy obviously you don’t understand it the little kids with him were actors that they were totally freaked out the entire time they were scared other months every time he had close to him they got really scared but they were being paid to act as audience members mmm it doesn’t prove anything that’s against a good point I’m just trying okay what about this Oh our Sean Maguire said rodeo clowns boom the trump card they save lives and protect property equals good you can’t hate on a rodeo clown so at least we got to carve out an exception but I hate clowns except for rodeo clowns but the whole point is the bulls are like the Bulls hate the clowns and chase them the Bulls hate the clowns so much that the humans should like them that they move towards the clouds no even the Bulls hate the clowns I know I just don’t think clowns have a leg to stand oh yeah I had an uncle at one point through marriage which now is divorced and I think that’s a good thing but he was a clown to marry uncle he had a Volkswagen bus and it had two front ends on it so you could never tell if it was going forward to reverse just like a clown to come up with something like that that’s pretty awesome yeah okay I take it back there every once in while clowns do something pretty inventive now if he was a rodeo clown and it was full of miniature horses that would be pretty awesome okay so again let’s wrap up this episode we’re gonna talk about something else next week are you satisfied I think have you reached the conclusion I think the consensus is there are some people most mostly clowns who think clowns are good there are most other people who are scared of clowns and we just need to be honest and say listen let’s just come up with something else just do magic just stick with magic just take the makeup off and do magic kids everybody loves a magician we didn’t even talk about mimes I mean we’re not even gonna go there gracious next week it’s time for a new debate leave it in the comments below we’re going to talk about what the legal driving age should be now you know it doesn’t vary widely I think it varies from like we can find places where 14 is illegal driving a UPS and it can go somewhere it’s 18 so but somewhere in that range we need to hear your arguments what should the legal driving age be okay and if you’re a clown who drives a bus I can go forwards or backwards there’s probably a different time when you can drive that it is probably like 26 like when you can rent a car well we’ll discuss that next week potentially let’s spin the wheel leave your
