GMMore 2063: What Do These Pasta Names Really Mean?

Welcome to Good Mythical More. We’re gonna look at some pasta. Let’s learn about pasta names and why they’re called that. But first congratulations to Debra. You’ve been reppin’ that merch out in the wild Debra. The Mythical Society shirt. Yeah. Congratulations. When you do #Merchicality with a picture of you sporting that mythical merch, we might find you and we might give you $30, like we’re doing for Deborah, to the mythical.com store. Hey, and her color changing shirt still worked after she tie-dyed it. That’s awesome. I was ’bout to say, I don’t remember selling that or that being on the site, sure. But she tie-dyed it. There you go. Mhm, mhm mhm. Alright Stevie teach us some pasta. Pasta. I got a tweet the other day that was like, this is how Italians pronounce pizza with a link. And I didn’t click on it. And I was confused as to why- And so I probably butchered saying pizza correctly? I think it was because Link got hung up on pizza for a while, and you were like, “Is it pizza?” or is it like you got hung up on the double Z, I don’t know if that was on or off camera. Every day, man. It must’ve been on camera. Every freaking day, man. Okay. I’m gonna show you a photo of a type of pasta and one, you have to guess what the name of the pasta is in Italian, then you’re gonna have to translate when I tell you what the real name of it is. And if you get it incorrectly, if you guess incorrectly, you have to read a sentence in Italian that’s on one of those cards. It’s a multi- I’ll hold your hand, Multi-part, yeah. I’ll lead you through it. This is like a pyramid scheme. So first, here’s an image of pasta. What do you think this pasta’s called in Italian? Little- Fritos. I mean, that, Fritos. I mean, that looks like, not well formed shells to me. Half shells. I’ve never seen this. I just, I don’t know. Yeah. It looks like a cereal. Okay, it’s- We’re starting with this one? Maybe called orecchiette. Orecchiette. Orecchiette. Orecchiette. Is it crunchy? Okay, so now the question is, what do you think that translates to in English? Orecchiette. Little flakies. Dingleberries. Fla- uh, pasta flakes. Scabs. Assorted scabs. It is little something. Little clams. Little crap. Little chetty. Little shells. No. Little Oreos. It’s somehow, I was about to say that’s closer, I don’t know how I feel that that’s closer to this. Little machete. Little baskets. Mm mm, it’s a body part. Little scoops. Little ears. Yeah. Yeah. Little ears. Little ears. All right, so I- That means you have to write, read. You said Davin’s name- Did you just pronounce it Davin Dievin. because you’re actually doing an Italian- Dievin. Link. What is that? What does that mean? Link was secretly jealous of Davin’s little ears. Oh, well, that’s true. He said that to me many times. True. Okay. Can I just say. I don’t know if the universe is trying to tell me something. What? But, and this is a weird thing to say, but today, right now, there is a pasta commercial being shot at my home. A commercial for pasta. And so when I woke up this morning. In my kitchen, there were all the different pastas from this company. Really? You’re not gonna mention, not a sponsor. Not a sponsor. You’re lettin’ ’em use your house and they’re not even a freaking sponsor. Well, Jess is, Jess, it’s a Jessie thing. It’s I, Okay. I stay out of it. I, you know. Did you eat the pasta? No, but like, what I’m saying, they were arranging the pasta in my kitchen. So, today I was looking at all these different types of pasta, like first thing, when I wake up. And then I come here. More pasta. and we’re like, well, let’s eat pasta. And then it’s like, oh no, let’s play a game, where you look at more pasta. With pasta. Yeah, what is the universe Well, I mean, what am- What am I being told? You gotta go to Italy, man. You gotta go to Italy and make some pasta. With my hands. Bare handed and naked. Wanna see another pasta? That’s what I’m gonna do. Let’s see another one. I’m gonna make pasta naked. Show this man some more pasta. Y’all are given us pastas that, we’ve never seen before. Yeah. Is the cross section isn’t, is a reverse? Yes. I thought it was gonna be like rigatoni, you know? And I don’t even know which one that is. I think it’s the swirly one. S tubes. Flacid wieners. This is endless scrolls. I thought you were gonna say scrotes. Endless scrotes. This is, this is log lips. It’s strozzapreti. Oh. Strozzapreti. Never seen it. By the way, I’m just like adding a little bit of an accent, but I’m most likely mispronouncing all of these. Strozzapreti. But it sounds like- Strozzapreti. Strozzapreti. Strozzapreti. Oh what did you do to the strozzapreti? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It was perfect and you overcooked it, you overcooked it. We kill you now. Strozzapreti. This translates to something, I just don’t think you’d guess in a million years, it’s very weird. It’s, it’s not even what it looks like. I got it, I got it. Curly turds. No, it doesn’t look like this thing, it’s like. I mean, the- Kneecaps Grandma’s pubes. Grandma’s fingers. Ocean. Flotsam. Ocean blossom, yes. Flotsam. Ocean flotsam. Priest stranglers Priest stranglers. Good gracious, Okay. what are you trying to say? It says, there are a lot of wives tales as to why they’re called this, but most commonly it’s because the shape looks like the collar priests wear, which is sometimes called a priest choker. Okay. And the story goes that priests would- That priests would so greedily- Oh, I thought it said that. The priest was so greedy, devour the pasta served to them by parishioners that they would choke. Oh, pre-stranglers. Strozzapreti? Oh, what is that? Okay, what did he just say? He just said, “My favorite series of romance novels is the priest stranglers.” Oh yeah. Oh. This looks tasty though, boy my mouth is watering to put some honey mustard on this stuff. And that looks like fresh. That looks like some fresh pasta, man. That stuff never got dried. Mm. How ’bout- You gotta throw that right in the pot. This one. Oh. That’s a, that’s a raked out rigatoni. That’s a honey bee, honey bee pot, honey bee. What’s a honey bee in? A hive. Comb. Hive? What do they call him? Is that what they call him? Nobody has been better than ole blue eyes for goin’ on a century. Where’s the radiatori? Why is it- Radiatori. Radiatori. Well, what did I say? But it’s called twin because they’re giving the illusion There’s two in each one. of two pieces of pasta. Ah, I know what this means. My favorite film is “Twins” staring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. What is goida? That’s my wife’s name. Goida! I have thought of an answer to your conundrum. It’s a movie called “Twins.” I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon. Goida come to me in my library.
