I’m partnering with Kroger to make French fries out of every single potato variety they have at my local Kroger family store. Let’s go. This is the only time in American history where you can walk into any store in any region of America during any time of the year and get seven different kinds of potato. So, let’s take advantage of it. We’ve got Yukon gold potato, Irish red potato, white rose potato, fingerling potato, red garnet yam, white sweet potato, and the old standby russet potato. We also got a bag of frozen fries just as our control. We’re going to see which of these makes the best French fry. One of my favorite things to do is to marvel at the sheer variety of produce that we get to choose from at the supermarket. Seven kinds of potatoes, eight kinds of apples, every lettuce that you could possibly imagine. I think we really take it for granted. But real grocery heads get it. Oh my god, finally I can eat these white sweet potato. That’s really good. Great sweet potato flavor. Not that crispy, but still solid. Let’s try the russet. M. I mean, that’s tough to beat. That’s the classic French fry. Crispy, salty, perfect texture. Red garnet yam. Actually crispier than I thought. Yukon Gold. I probably buy more Yukon Golds than anything, but not a great showing with the French fries. Irish red potato. This is my sleeper hit. Not as crispy as the rusted. That is excellent. Little baby white rose. Oh, they flop. Leave it in soups. You don’t need to fry it. The petite fingerlings actually look the best. Oh my god, that’s so good. No, we can’t. We can’t call petite fingerlings the winner because you’re going to spend eight hours chopping up the tiniest potatoes. But I’m so glad we did this cuz what an incredible discovery. It’s like a French freak crispy. Oh my god. That said, I cannot advocate that you actually cut up fingerlink potatoes into French fries unless you really want to. I didn’t expect this, but Russet is the winner. Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. But you know what? If you don’t want to make your fries from scratch, get yourself a frozen bag from Kroger. They are absolutely incredible. So satisfying. All right, grocery heads.
